Re: Feature: 10 Things We'd Like To See In Animal Crossing On The Switch

JasonLee99

These Animal Crossing wishlists always miss the one thing that annoys me most with every Animal Crossing to date.

How about a decent inventory system? When I’m about to purchase something in a shop the game should tell me if I already own it. Wouldn’t it be great to know you’re only missing two of the green series of furniture without having to keep lists on paper or external apps? So simple to implement, and yet none of them have.

Re: Soapbox: I Don't 'Get' Smash Bros. And I Just Don't Know Why

JasonLee99

Don’t do it. I’m exactly the same way. I rented the N64 version, bought the GCN version, and bought the Wii U version trying to make myself like them. I wanted to enjoy them and experience the Nintendo fan service. I didn’t like any of them. After tapping out of the Wii U version at less than 10 hours, I vowed that was it. So I had to sit through a mediocre E3 last year, because it was basically Smash, and skip out on a couple Directs because again, Smash focused. I was so glad when the game finally released so other games would get the spotlight. I haven’t been tempted with Ultimate at all. It might be great but it does nothing for me.

Re: Review: Ark: Survival Evolved - An Ambitious Survival Epic That's Borderline Unplayable On Switch

JasonLee99

Once again Nintendo Life, having the reviewer state how long they actually played the game in their review would be a tremendous benefit to the readers. I don’t understand why that’s not standard for all reviews, all websites. Maybe I’m wrong, but reading this review gives me the impression it wasn’t played long. There’s nothing wrong with that but it it was only played 10 hours versus 50, I’d like to know that.

I’m part of a group in which two guys are playing this game, one an Ark veteran. While the veteran readily admits there are performance issues, they hardly make the game “unplayable”. They’ve been playing it since release and seem to be having a blast with it, trading tips back and forth. As the veteran says, if you’re expecting the game to run at the same level as the other consoles, you’ll be disappointed. But, according to him, there is fun to be had with the Switch version. And yes, he plays handheld at times too.

Re: Review: Harvest Life - An Unpolished Farm Sim That Lacks The Charm Of Its Influences

JasonLee99

@JasmineDragon That’s fine. I just know that a lot of people I listen to on podcasts were over the moon for Stardew for ‘doing Harvest Moon right’. They would then admit to not having played any for 10-15 years. Their opinions were based on this shared assumption that Harvest Moon games are now all bad.

I played 80 hours of Stardew on Switch. I obviously liked it but it wasn’t near as deep as the HM games imo. Plus it just felt generic to me.

Re: Review: Harvest Life - An Unpolished Farm Sim That Lacks The Charm Of Its Influences

JasonLee99

I agree with the notion it’s popular to hate on Harvest Moon nowadays. While I haven’t played Light of Hope on Switch (yet), I have played the Story of Seasons games on 3DS. When Stardew Valley came out on Switch lots of people dissed the newer Harvest Moon games. IMO, both Story of Seasons games are better than Stardew Valley. It’s just that few tried them. I like Stardew Valley, I just don’t think it’s as great as most others.

Re: Video: Check Out Yooka-Laylee's Demastered Nintendo 64 Mode In Action

JasonLee99

I played through it and I think it’s missing something too. I’m not sure if the characters just weren’t as endearing as Banjo or it just wasn’t as polished but I was left a bit disappointed. I still liked the game enough but my expectations were probably a bit high.

I hope they didn’t spend a lot of time on this N64 mode. Personally, that’s something I might try once and never go back to. Most gamers would want their games to look as nice as possible, not downgrade.

Re: Soapbox: I'm Causing The Slow Death Of Gaming Magazines, And It Hurts

JasonLee99

You don’t buy gaming magazines to keep up with the news. The news is obviously more up to date and free on the internet. You buy gaming magazines for a different perspective. I subscribe to Nintendo Force because 1) it’s fun to get a magazine in the mail every two months, 2) sometimes it’s nice to read about games without looking at a screen, 3) it’s a time stamp in the gaming industry that I’ll always have, and 4) the founder Lucas Thomas is a hardcore Nintendo fan whose passion shines through in the mag.

I still have all of my Nintendo Powers and Electronic Gaming Monthly’s growing up. Want to see what gaming was like in 1993? Leaf through a couple issues and between the topics, ads, and reviews, you’ll know exactly what it was like. You lose that with gaming websites. I hope gaming magazines never completely go away.

Re: 82% Of Starlink: Battle For Atlas Sales Were On Switch In UK, Only Managed 14th In Charts Debut

JasonLee99

I want this game but the reason I haven’t bought it is because I wanted a retail version without the toys. Not only was that not offered, but they are actually incentivizing you to buy digital because you get more content for $60 digital versus $75 retail. It seems most people aren’t interested in the toys so I wondered if more just chose digital since it’s a way better deal.

Re: Talking Point: Do We Still Need Review Scores?

JasonLee99

This site is a prime example of why number scores aren’t effective. How many 5s (average) has this site actually given out? Very few. So few that if I see a 5 on this site I assume the game is garbage. The actual average is 7-8. That’s what most games score. I’d much rather see a letter system. Everyone knows that a C is average. But when I see a game score a 7 on any site, is that actually average, or above average?

Re: Review: Little Dragons Café (Switch)

JasonLee99

Nintendo Life...please start requiring reviewers to state how much time they’ve put into a game. With games of this type, like Harvest Moon, you can put a few hours into it and write a review. Or you can put 30+ hours into it and really see what the game has to offer. This review didn’t seem very in-depth. Maybe the game isn’t deep? Maybe the reviewer didn’t play it much? We have no idea.

Re: Fans Are Calling Out Nintendo And Camelot For "Lazy" Mario Tennis Aces

JasonLee99

This is kind of funny because I just read the Nintendo Life review yesterday. I bought the game at launch and I agree with the sentiment there’s not much to it. The Adventure mode, while difficult, is nothing more than a glorified tutorial. Online is what it is, it’s the meat of the game. Tournaments versus the com get stale quick as there is not much incentive to play it outside of the joy of the match itself.

However, when I read Nintendo Life’s review of the game this part really jumped out at me: “Where Ultra Smash’s extras were a pure Monkey Island’s worth of living without that particular piece of junk – here’s your context, kids – Aces stuffs its kit bag with activities until the zip’s positively pinging off across the locker room like a smartly volleyed can of energy drink. Not everything is evenly fleshed out, but whatever your preferential way to play, there’s plenty to get stuck into, both solo and with pals.”

Really? This reviewer and I couldn’t disagree more! Also, per the review online wasn’t even working yet when the review was written. So the Adventure mode, tournaments vs the com, and local multiplayer were what the reviewer based plenty of content on. It’s not to me, but to each his own.

Re: Soapbox: Why A Nintendo 64 Classic Edition Might Not Be Such A Good Idea

JasonLee99

@MysticX Maybe, but I don’t remember too many people complaining about the N64 games on VC. There was a huge difference in appearance between playing DK64 on my HDTV using an actual N64 versus playing it on the VC. I don’t think a classic N64 would do as well as the NES or SNES but I think there would still be enough demand to justify its existence.

Re: Soapbox: Why A Nintendo 64 Classic Edition Might Not Be Such A Good Idea

JasonLee99

I was just talking about this on Discord with my gaming buddies yesterday. We discussed the Nintendo list someone posted above and Nintendo could easily load some of those games on it to fill it up, even without Rare or few third parties. One aspect not discussed is cost. If Nintendo wants to keep it at $80, you can expect 15 games to be on it max, probably less. The N64 games are $10 per game on VC so they won’t put many on the N64 Classic, which makes it easier to fill up without Rare or third parties.

Looking at the list above, there are more Nintendo first party that aren’t listed. Mario Golf and Mario Tennis come to mind.

Re: Site News: A Fond Farewell from Nintendo Life Editor, Thomas Whitehead

JasonLee99

Good luck! The biggest reason this became my go to Nintendo site was I enjoyed your editorials. As you mentioned, it seems videos are replacing written pieces. Personally, I’d much rather read a review/editorial at my own pace rather than watch a video at someone else’s pace. Very few Nintendo sites even bother with written editorials any longer so I hope your successor will continue. Thanks again for all your thought provoking content over the years!

Re: Guide: How To Unlock Every Badge In ARMS

JasonLee99

So if you’ve already completed some of these prior to the badges going live, do you get credit? Or have to start over? I actually cleared level 7 once....disregard, see where people got coins upon starting the game.

Re: Review: forma.8 (Switch eShop)

JasonLee99

Can Nintendo Life start adding how much of the game the reviewer played through? Two hours? The entire campaign? This information should be standard in every review. This review is so vague it makes it appear not much time was spent with it.

Re: Soapbox: The SNES Classic Edition Pre-Order Farce Proves Nintendo Hasn't Learned A Thing

JasonLee99

Maybe Nintendo just needs to raise the retail price so it's cost effective for them to continue manufacturing them until demand is met. That way if it takes 2 years to meet demand, they are still profiting while they make more. Why wouldn't a company do that? Knowing you'll eventually find it even if you have to wait a while means much less people turning to eBay to find them.

Re: Soapbox: The SNES Classic Edition Pre-Order Farce Proves Nintendo Hasn't Learned A Thing

JasonLee99

Living in USA, I struck out yesterday, despite trying to get my order to go through when everything went live. My wife even raced to GameStop only to have the last one sold to the guy in front of her. The moment Nintendo announces theses are "limited" and only available for 4 months, there are going to be problems, no matter how many millions they make. Scalper's have the bots and will snatch them up. I'm sure eBay is loaded right now. Switches are tough to find but you know they will eventually be readily available. Because of Nintendo's insistence to make the Classics "limited", they will never be readily available and the scalper's know it.

Re: Review: Chicken Wiggle (3DS eShop)

JasonLee99

After reading the review, the attached score seemed a bit lower than I expected. It also amazes me the number of people that now write off games solely because they aren't on Switch. Still a lot of recent good content on the 3DS that many are missing out on.

Re: Guide: Here's When You Can Capture Pokémon GO's Legendary Moltres, Zapdos And Articuno

JasonLee99

This is convincing me it may be time to quit playing. I play casual in that I'll have the game open during my daily walks and will catch Pokemon I need while walking. I also hatch lots of eggs. However, I don't play the gyms. I find the whole process of tapping your phone screen boring and unappealing. This is telling me there are some Pokemon I'll never be able to get without playing the gyms. If you can't catch them all, a lot of the appeal is lost.
