Developer Digital Continue has announced that SuperMash, star of December's Indie World Showcase, will be launching on Nintendo Switch on 8th May.
If you need a recap, SuperMash is described as a "game-making game", where players will experience randomly generated games called Mashes. Essentially, the game creates unpredictable scenarios by letting you blend together two different genres - the trailer above will do a better job of explaining this than we ever could.
You can actually control certain elements of what you play by applying Dev Cards, an in-game tool which lets you throw in characters, enemies, environments, and more. You can then share any Mashes you find using the playable code provided.
Features:
- Mash together six unique 2D game genres, including Metrovania, Shoot ‘em Up, Stealth, Platformer, JRPG, and Action Adventure. Each can be combined with itself or one of the other genres.
- Further customize Mashes generated with collectable in-game Dev Cards, which allow them to pick and choose specific characters, enemies, worlds, and more every time they play.
- Run a video game shop stocked with retro hybrids of player-created games.
- Share their favourite combinations with the world through unique codes generated for each Mash.
It'll be available for $19.99 when it launches next month. Do you think you'll be giving it a go? Let us know with a comment.

Good stuff. Pretty excited about this one.
I cannot think of a game that has looked cooler to me, however I fear will not be good. I do not know why, however I just have a feeling this one is going to be a flop. That said, I certainly hope I am wrong as the concept to this game is amazing.
Bought it dirt cheap on PC last year. Was fun for about 10 minutes.
A lovely idea.
But ideas are not enough. It's all about execution. Pass.
@Dayton311 this game got really bad reviews on PC...
Absolutely unique! Defo keeping an eye on this one
I was really excited for this until I saw the PC reviews. Maybe it has been improved.
I just can't see this one providing a whole lot more enjoyment beyond the initial novelty factor. Sure, it'll provide a few grins when mashing genres, but unless the actual "games" you make from the mashups are decent quality, this will grow stale quickly.
This game got shredded in reviews, and it broke my heart. Looks so dang cool. Still will grab on a deep discount, but dang.
Funny idea but I have a feeling that once the novelty wears out there isn't all that much in here.
I have high hopes for this one! Brilliant concept.
I bought this on the Epic Store awhile back - it is a novelty, 100%. There is a story to it, but it's not very interesting. There's a variety of gameplay options, but they get repetitive. You get locked into playing each "MashUp" with limited options. It's not bad, but it's definitely something I wish I had bought on sale
Mmmmom curious about this one I love the idea. I wonder when u mash 2 genres is there a way to save that particular game or is it randomly generated every time so u can’t play that game again. Disappointing reviews and all your comments sound like it is not so good, so maybe a sale game. Will keep an eye x x x x x x x
I'm definitely hooked on this, as I am a HUGE spokesperson for genre blending.
I think one of the greatest falls of contemporary AAA is that they shun genre blending, presumably because they think doing away with deliberately abstract game elements will provide a more "smooth" experience and enhance "immersion".
So yeah. Unless this game is REALLY crummy, I'm THERE! If nothing else, just to see how crazy their mechanics go.
I was super hyped seeing this in the Direct a ways back, thinking it was a switch exclusive, but then realized this is a port and as others have said above, it’s received HORRIBLE reviews.
Not willing to throw away $20 so likely a pass for me unless some review comes out identifying huge improvements.
The idea seems pretty cool, but the reviews are just horrendous....that being said, I've had demos change my mind before if there will be one.
So how exactly does NintendoLife pick the games to get featured in a moderately lengthy article promoting their release date?
Randomly?
@RileyR your guess is as good as anyone’s!
They ignored all the marvel ultimate alliance DLC releases and costume packs, choosing to put up 100 animal crossing articles....
They can’t cover everything, but they sure do skip some obvious stuff...
