Re: Random: Here's Why Wolfenstein 3D On SNES Replaced Dogs With Rats

JasmineDragon

Honestly, this is silly and I don't care a whole lot, but it needs to be said - rats are lovely animals that don't deserve to be shot any more than dogs do. I work with rats all the time, and they are sociable, funny and generally very easygoing creatures. They like people, and are by far the easiest rodents to work with.

Re: Poll: Box Art Brawl: Duel #95 - Earthbound / Mother 2

JasmineDragon

I like Japan on this one. It's a real throwback design to the days of early RPGs and wargames, and it grabs the eye.

I like the NA design too, but I prefer Japan.

I also like the title Mother, rather than Earthbound. Earthbound definitely rolls off the tongue nicely, but it's a bit generic, even back in the day. As someone who has no nostalgic feelings for the series, it doesn't evoke much.

Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? (May 7th)

JasmineDragon

I haven't played much of anything this week, but I'll probably get back into Lego Star Wars: the Skywalker Saga today, and I'm thinking about returning to Sakuna: of Rice and Ruin or one of the Story of Seasons games.

Also in the cards: working on my sweater, doing housework, seeing Doctor Strange tomorrow and maybe getting a new Lego set.

Re: Feature: Will These 10 Classic Western RPGs Ever Come To Switch?

JasmineDragon

It's such a shame that Ultima has faded into obscurity. Not only was Ultima one of the founding computer RPGs, it also spawned one of the early MMORPGs.

It's like if Batman or Captain America had been completely forgotten and nobody knew that they were once among the most famous members of the Justice League and Avengers.

Maybe somebody will reboot the series as it approaches its 50th anniversary, which is not that far off now. I'm sure there's money to be made with a quality game or series and some decent marketing work. EA probably won't do it, though.

Re: Nintendo Reportedly Expecting 10% Decrease In Switch Sales Due To Supply Issues

JasmineDragon

@Xiovanni People always say things like this, about consoles and games alike. But 385,000 babies are born every day on Earth. There are always new gamers coming up, gamers who haven't played the games "everyone has played" and young'uns who are just getting to the right age for their own consoles.

Coincidentally, I bought my 14-year-old a Switch OLED two days ago. She's been using my launch day Switch, and it's been ailing for a while now. Her birthday is this week and it was time for her to upgrade.

Re: Rumour: Super Mario Bros. Film Might Feature Redesigns For Mario & Luigi

JasmineDragon

I have no problem with this. Musical numbers worked for the Lion King, they worked for Mary Poppins, they worked for Encanto. Adventure Time has frequent musical interludes that don't detract from its coolness, and if you don't love Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory we cannot be friends and you're not invited to Game Night here anymore. Musicals can be fun.

And Illumination have not made any musicals in that league yet, but they did pretty well with Sing. That was a movie I went to with my kids expecting utter schlock, and it turned out to be a surprisingly sincere movie where the music worked really well.

I'm not expecting a timeless classic here, but I'm not on board the hate train.

Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? (April 30th)

JasmineDragon

I'm playing through the prequel trilogy in Lego Star Wars: the Skywalker Saga.

Going to try and get some Paradise Killer in.

Continuing the dungeon delve in Mary Skelter 2.

And I have an itch for Civilization VI - which means that might end up being the only game I play this weekend.

In crochet today, still working on that sweater.

Re: Feature: What's Your Biggest Nintendo Launch Day Regret?

JasmineDragon

Buying the N3DSXL when I really should have gotten the N3DS Animal Crossing bundle. I wasn't all that into AC (heresy, I know) and I thought a bigger screen would naturally be better.

(Narrator: it wasn't).

I hated the big screen. It made everything look fifty times worse. And I don't know if I got a bad unit or if they were all like this, but I had a really floppy hinge on mine. I didn't hate the thing, I was just disappointed by it. Compared to my beautiful and well-loved aqua 3DS, it just didn't feel like the same Nintendo experience. It was great to be able to play a full-featured game like Xenoblade Chronicles on a handheld, but I wasn't sold on it at all. And I still would rather play games on my 3DS than the N3DSXL.

I think this experience is probably part of the reason I've completely abandoned my whole DS/3DS/N3DS collection in favor of the Switch.

Re: Marble Maid Looks Like Super Monkey Ball, But With Added Naughtiness

JasmineDragon

"Super Monkey Ball, but with naughty maids" is the worst elevator pitch ever, and the trailer pretty much confirms it. Who is buying this? Monkey Ball fans have the actual SMB games, Paperball Deluxe and others that they can play, and naughty maid fans have thousands of naughtier and better-drawn alternatives. What's the draw for this?

Re: City Builder 'As Far As The Eye' Is A Nomadic Roguelike Take On 'Civilization'

JasmineDragon

This looks right up my alley, but Steam reviews are quite mixed. I see a lot of complaints about randomness scuppering an entire run when the world generates a zone that doesn't have the resources you need to move out of it. Things like this are death to a strategy game.

It has enough positive reviews that I'm inclined to check it out anyway, but probably on Steam rather than Switch, since the Steam price is currently less than ten dollars.

Re: Mini Review: The Last Friend - Fantastic, Fast-Paced Tower Defense, With Pettable Good Boys

JasmineDragon

Being a vet tech, I feel like I pretty much have to buy this.

I have to say, though, it would have been cooler to have T-Juan be the alpha. I've worked with hundreds of groups of mixed-sized dogs, and I've seen so many little dogs like terriers and Chihuahuas bossing their much bigger packmates around. It's hilarious to watch. Would have been fun to have that in the game.

Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? (April 23rd)

JasmineDragon

I've been juggling Undernauts: Labyrinth of Yomi and Mary Skelter 2. Two very similar games overall, but very different on the nuts and bolts level. I think I'll go with MS2 this weekend.

I plan to return to Paradise Killer today. I haven't gotten very far yet, jist getting my bearings in the game.

More Slay the Spire of course. Alternating the Defect and the Silent.

Bought Lego Star Wars: the Skywalker Saga a few days ago, playing through Episode II now.

In between gaming sessions I've been working on a crocheted sweater. I'm about 1/4 done, hope to make some progress this weekend, so I'll be spending some time crocheting and watching Avatar: the Last Airbender.

Re: Random: Euphoria Star Hunter Schafer Thinks It "Would Be Cool" To Play Princess Zelda In A Live-Action Movie

JasmineDragon

Physically I could see her as Zelda, but I haven't seen the show and have no idea if she has the acting ability. Also not really sure LOZ needs to be a movie or a show. Great games don't necessarily translate to great viewing.

Having said that, I'm pretty sure this is going to happen, now that Detective Pikachu, Sonic and the Witcher have all succeeded as live action media. Hollywood loves to chase after the Next Big Thing, and now that superheroes seem to be on the verge of oversaturation I suspect video games are the NBT.

Re: Random: Nintendo Might Not Be As Old As You Think

JasmineDragon

I found it interesting to read. I grant you, this isn't earthshaking secret knowledge, but I just like history and enjoy reading about the difficulties historians face when researching prosaic things like when exactly a company that would become one of the most influential companies on Earth was founded. Does it change the way I play video games? No, not at all. But I like to know things.

This article also led me over to the Kickstarter, which gave me some cool insight on traditional Japanese cardmaking, which is amazing.

Re: Want To See The Star Wars: Rogue Squadron Games On Switch? Let Aspyr Know

JasmineDragon

Honestly, I think there's next to no chance they don't already know the demand is there. Rogue Leader comes up near the top of almost every list of Star Wars games, as well as Best Games on Gamecube. Like, every single time.

Social media is ultra important to these companies, though, and they wouldn't be the first company to engage in some Astroturfing to promote an upcoming product. Because they still need to engage younger players and newcomers and get them hyped. If enough people respond to this, it boosts their social media numbers through the roof, and sales with them.

I think there's a very good chance these games are already in the pipeline.

Re: Talking Point: Can It Really Be 10 Years Since Fire Emblem: Awakening Saved The Series?

JasmineDragon

Awakening was tremendous. Best game on the 3DS in my opinion, certainly the one I put the most time into. I actually finished it, which is very rare for me, and even bought some of the DLC maps so the experience wouldn't end. Sadly, I haven't enjoyed another FE game as much since then. Three Houses is a stellar game, but IMO it leaned too far into the social and romantic parts of the game - still great, but not as good as Awakening.
