Re: Video: The Switch Is A Wii U Port Machine, And That's A Good Thing

Hams96

I don't think it's bad that Wii u games are getting ported. I already have all the major Wii u titles anyway, but I'm glad other people are getting the opportunity to play them. It doesn't really impact me anyway - the switch has got such a huge library as it is that nobody really has any right to complain about having nothing to play.
...what I DO take issue with though is the fact that these games are invariably released at full retail price, regardless of the similarity. Some games like hyrule warriors come with all the dlc, so the switch version is actually cheaper than the all the wii u dlc packs combined. Some would argue it should still be cheaper but...eh. Other games like DK: tropical freeze had no dlc, and just got a new easy mode, which really doesn't justify a full price tag.
Pikmin 3 is a great game, I personally got like half the dlc free via my nintendo so not interested in double dipping. But for anyone who doesn't have it, great! this probably is actually cheaper than buying the wii u game with all the dlc, and it wouldn't surprise me if it drops in price over time anyway.

Re: Adorable Animal Crossing Dodo Airlines Reusable Bag Appears On My Nintendo Europe

An update on My Nintendo says: "A website issue is currently affecting some users of My Nintendo Store, and we are working to fix this issue. If you have claimed a reward code for a Animal Crossing: New Horizons Reusable Bag and wish to redeem it, please continue to check My Nintendo Store as we anticipate the issue to be resolved shortly. Stock of the Animal Crossing: New Horizons Reusable Bag will be available to all those who have claimed a reward code and redeem it prior to its expiry. "

Re: Poll: Should Nintendo Release A Digital-Only Switch?

Hams96

Knowing Nintendo, my main concern with going all digital would be that they wouldn't provide an adequate amount of internal storage (which is the case on both Wii u and Switch, obviously). And if they're going to require you to buy external storage cards anyway, is that really any different from still using physcial media?
There's also the obvious issue of eshops closing eventually. I think systems like PC or mobile, where you can still access the same stores but older devices won't always be fully supported, lend themselves better to a digital-only ecosystem.

Re: Switch Joy-Con Drift Claim Must Be Arbitrated, Says Illinois Federal Court

Hams96

Had my switch for a year and a half and they suddenly started drifting badly about a week ago. A friend has had theirs less than a fortnight and got drift, another friend has had 4 joycon drift, between him and his partner. It's definitely a major issue and it's astonishing that they've not released an improved model of joycon that resolves this.

Re: Soapbox: Why Sword And Shield's Pokémon Purge Will Benefit Everyone

Hams96

If balance is the issue, why not just limit competitive play to use pokemon naturally obtainable in the game, but still make it possible to transfer other pokemon and use them in non-competitive. Not everyone cares about the competitive scene, some just want to have battles against friends using their favourite Pokémon, in which situations it's sometimes fun having a slightly overpowered Pokémon.
And besides, they're clearly reusing the same Pokémon models that they've been using since 6th gen, can't imagine it'd be that hard to just continue reusing them

Re: Soapbox: I'm Causing The Slow Death Of Gaming Magazines, And It Hurts

Hams96

I used to buy the Official Nintendo Magazine every month while I was at high schoo, still have all of my old issues and quite a few of their posters are still on my wall. Only stopped buying it when I felt the quailty of the writing dipped after a lot of the staff changed, and the price susequently going up was the final nail in the coffin.

As much as I still loved it while it lasted, ultimately there's very little point paying for month old information that you can get online far easier

Re: Opinion: What Did You Think Of Today's Nintendo Direct?

Hams96

Decent start, okish middle, good finish. The majority of first party games revealed seemed to be ports, excited for animal crossing and Luigi's mansion 3 except we didn't actually see anything for either. Yoshi looked interesting though, and glad Isabelle is in smash. Switch online looks totally lackluster and offers no real incentive to those that have bought NES games 20 times since the Wii

Re: Talking Point: Do We Still Need Review Scores?

Hams96

They're useful as a gauge of quality, if I see a game I was unsure about getting, but it consistently scores high, I'll probably get it. If a game didn't score as high as I expect, I'll look further into the review to see what's wrong with it, and then make my decision. I almost always skip to the final score before reading the review, it's nice having the TLDR

Re: Pokémon Let's Go Pikachu and Eevee Director Explains Why Motion Controls Are Mandatory

Hams96

Oh come on, this is hardly a 'new play experience', that kind of line got stale fast with the Wii 10 years ago, and ultimately led to the console being notorious for shoehorning waggle controls into EVERYTHING. There's nothing wrong with having them of course, but if you force people into using a control method that they don't want to use, it's surely only going to put them off in the long run.
