It looks like something new in the wacky world of Worms is set to arrive in 2020, as shown by this new tease from series developer Team17.
The studio has taken to Twitter to reveal that the stars of Worms' famous turn-based strategy games are on their way back "like you’ve never seen them before". Will this be a brand new game? Will it be on Switch? we certainly hope so.
Of course, the Switch already has Worms W.M.D. available on the Switch eShop, but this year just so happens to be the 25th anniversary of the series. Another tweet from the official Worms account says that "things are getting real in 2020", promising more details soon.
So, we'll hand it over to you. What do you think this will be? If it's a new game, what would your hopes for it be? Share all of your thoughts with us below.

Calling it; WMD;Worms of Mobile Destiny. It’ll be asynchronous multiplayer with micro transactions.
I'd like to see the return of 3D Worms.
More Worms is never a bad thing.
@Late Yes! We have 2D Worms on Switch, 3D next please
@DrJoson @Late Now that’s an unusual sentiment. The return to 2D was specifically because how everyone hated the 3D ones.
The first time I've ever been excited about getting worms
Excited as long as they do a good job!
Imagine a third-person shooter twist in the series, like Popcap did with PVZ to PVZ: Garden Warfare.
@SmaggTheSmug I haven't been able to get back to 2D Worms since Armageddon so I'm curious if I still like 3D Worms. I enjoyed Mayhem's multiplayer just as much as the old 2D games and the single player campaign was awesome.
"Like you’ve never seen them before... New Worms, new ways to play" - makes it sound like it could be VR, or perhaps even a new twist on the turn-based stategy formula. Could even be a new third-person based shooter like Plants vs Zombies Garden Warfare.
Remember team 17 feeling a big deal in my Amiga days before Worms took off and understandably there was a big focus on that franchise.
Had great fun with Alien Breed!
Seems like it could be a new 3D worms game, or maybe a half 3D game where they have the classic gameplay but with 3D models. They have done a lot of worms games over the years.
Played Worms on Switch. But it's not so good in handheld mode: screen to small. But a good game on a large screen. You're deed Jimmy. 😮
worms battle royale i would actually play
I’d rather have a competing series to Worms on Switch, which I felt went into greater
Depth of this type of combat: Of course I am talking about Gunbound from Softnyx.
@SmaggTheSmug Guess I'm one of the few who didn't hate 3D worms then. Grew up playing 2D Worms on PC, but Worms Ultimate Mayhem on 360/PS3 is probably still my favourite to this day
Worms WMD takes forever to load on switch, introduced some neat gimmicks but I prefer the simpler days of Armageddon
Since noone has noticed there is a battletoad in the surprising since rare owns it lol besides team 17 is the old rare when rare was good at making games
I hate to say it, but this is the perfect franchise for a high quality mobile (smartphone) version. If they got the multiplayer right it'd be a lot of fun.
One of my favorite franchises ever. I own every worms game ever released on PC. I wish they release the first 3 ones on switch.
@RPGamer
Oh...it’s available physically for the Switch! Never mind the asking price; bottom line, it exists!
@RPGamer I would assume W.M.D., I don't believe that any other Worms titles have been released on the Switch yet.
@RPGamer:

Again, purchase at your own risk! I am fairly diehard for physical, but with this price and the fact that I like some games ‘always available,’ I lucked out being late to the game on this one!!
