@gatorboi352 They are competing against various other companies for these parts. Of course they are going to have shortages if everyone is wanting them. And honestly I would rather wait for a Switch if it means I get top-notch quality than try finding another manufacturer who might not do as good a job or might do one. But then that is my opinion. I won't argue you on yours. But for the record, they have improved the manufacturing process recently according to another interview. So things might be better in the future!
Actually hitting below the belt against Nintendo, did they ever have any stock issues for the Wii U?
@Fred13 Now that is funny because I have never once missed out on any of these shortages. But then you and gator are from the United States whereas I am from the UK so I might have it easier.
Can I ask, what is it like for Nintendo stock in the US?
@slatanek Have a like! For a well rounded and sensible answer
I agree, it does feel like things are starting to shape up. In fact, that guy who designed Mario+Rabbids. It was really heartwarming to see the designer cry at the E3 conference for Ubisoft. It shows that this was 100% not a throwaway. Ubisoft were genuinely commited to making a game. And Starlink looks grand as well!
EA have started doing good work too. Their FIFA version genuinely plays well according to previews. It is sounding far more positive than the Wii U's era for a start.
I have hope they will succeed. So far, Nintendo has been doing really well and 2017 is already sorted with an excellent turn out. Let's hope Nintendo keeps up the work next year
@samuelvictor Do you have a link to that article about the Wii Sports and Fit? I'd be interested in reading it.
And definitely agree. Let's point out there are very few of us in the conversation that can speak from experience. Lorne did make a popular franchise after all. It might not have been super popular like Mario but it does have its fan followers.
@Alikan Oh that does sound like fun. I might give it a try if there is a suitable sequel or port on the Switch
Right now I am limiting my spending on games because so many good titles and gear is coming and I want to cleverly save for it. So I can not commit to Oddworld today. Maybe next year though!
@Shellcore Me it's just the use of words. It could have been spun into a more palatable sentence.
"The thinking has to change. The biggest problem I see at Nintendo is the thinking. Personally, I think it killed Iwata; that he couldn't move the organisation into a really successful arena. "
With a bit of work.
"The thinking at Nintendo is overdue for a change. Nintendo's way of thinking is a flaw in their approaches to the industry as a whole. While Iwata is no longer around to confirm, I am sure he would confirm there were moments where his ideas for success could not proceed due to the standards set in the organization. I think if Nintendo accepted change, they would have benefited from it"
Just threw that together. It's not perfect but it shows how a change of words can get the point across without being spun negatively
@slatanek What are your thoughts on games like Lego City, Mario+Rabbids and Snake Pass where there is a genuine effort to be liked by Nintendo gamers? Do you think they can compete against Nintendo's sort?
@Pod Agreed, this is what I took away from all this. It takes two to tango when it comes to success. The big businesses have their part to play in all this.
@impurekind We can all agree there were a lot of problems with Nintendo during their Wii U era. God knows I have pointed out a few and defended others.
And Lorne is correct in point out a few. But his poor choices of words is what makes me lose respect for him rather than what he says. I agree with some of his points and disagree with others. However unlike him I am not using a poor choice of words to get my point across.
It is poor choices of words that will be his undoing with this interview rather than what he says.
"The thinking has to change. The biggest problem I see at Nintendo is the thinking. Personally, I think it killed Iwata; that he couldn't move the organisation into a really successful arena. "
Woah. And just like that I lose respect for the guy. Seriously man, bad choice of words!
The problem 3D Sonic has is something I feel some franchises could have learnt from. And that is sometimes a 3D/2D version of a 2D/3D game just doesn't work. Not every franchise should make the jump between that extra plane. Sometimes the gameplay they have which we all know and love only works because it has or hasn't got that extra Z-plane.
Sure we had some success with 3D Sonic but they are outnumbered by the sheer amount of bad ones. And yet the 2D Sonic this year has positive acclaim already before we even touch reviews.
Maybe Sonic is not cut out to be 3D? Maybe the reason he succeeded all those years ago is because of the lack of a Z-plane. Like how Mega Man truly works wonders on 2D but the number of 3D games that were good are few. It does happen vice versa. Spyro and Crash worked much better in 3D than 2D.
@MoonKnight7 And yet that is HORI's approach. Not Nintendo's. How can you be sure Nintendo's approach will be like that? The proof is only in the eating. Or gaming in this case
Question. How can people be hating the voice chat before they know everything about it and have tried it? Just saying. At least give them a chance. This is like shooting the developers before they even get the chance to make their solution.
@GravyThief Actually BG&E2 does have a slim chance. Michel Ancel did mention that they developed the game's engine to work on many platforms. Now that does not get me going "yup Switch confirmed" but rather "Switch is possible but will be downgraded"
And unlike most developers I trust if Ubisoft say they can get it to work on many platforms they will get it to work. The bigger concern is not whether it can make it to the Switch but would it be passable on the Switch? (Key example being Dragon Quest Heroes on the Switch ran terribly)
Erm guys...it is not the Wonderful 101. In the Wonderful 101, all the team members had "100" on the back of their jackets (with their 101st being at the end of the game). This image clearly shows "101" on their backs. Which means the image if anything is from the characters at the end of the game
It's not a port. It is more likely a sequel if true
Fun fact, the Magnavox Odyssey was distributed by Nintendo if I recall for Japan in 1974. Looking it that way, they have been in Video Games for 43 years this month as well.
I think I will hold off until the UK pre-orders start. Given Mario is their big hit this year I can imagine plenty of stock. Metroid is a tougher call to make but I will hold out for that as well
@SLIGEACH_EIRE ...You know, you have a valid point. It would not have cost them that much to do either. Perhaps they decided it was not worth it? But even then they at least could have done a Switch bundle for the game...
A great decision! Now I was effected by this but honestly I was happy to sacrifice my spares in favor of allowing others another shot. I would have probably cancelled them if I did not find them a home.
Go to the Argos site and login as usual. Select "Your Account" in the top right corner. Click the "Recent Orders" option. Find your order and click the "View Order Details". That should show you all
@RedMageLanakyn They put out almost double what the NES had in its entire lifetime on Day One. And from my experience it has been easy to get pre-orders.
I think at this point people missing out is down to bad luck rather than lack of numbers
Guys here is what I say. Check all of your pre-orders throughout the next week. This is the period where they will be cancelling pre-orders and whatnot across all online stores.
No-one is safe until after next week. Amazon and Argos have done it. It can happen in other places too.
@XenoShaun Exactly this. Let the 3rd parties come next year. Let them have the chance to work on it and make fantastic AAA titles worth our money rather than titles that give us regret. Nintendo is already doing good enough on the Switch this year and the current 3rd party is good as well. I'd rather 2018 was rammed with fantastic titles than 2017 was rammed with terrible ones.
@Anti-Matter I don't think you can order from overseas but for the record, Smyths is a wonderful place to pre-order from and I have never had an issue with them
@AlexOlney @Damo Damo's right, it is a step forward for Samsung which could lead to more phones being supported. It won't be long before this little bit of kit is setting all phones on fire
@8itmap_k1d I'm starting to think this is the case. For all the complaints I have heard since 2014 about scarcity, I have never once fallen victim to it. In fact, the whole FE Fates debacle I managed to grab 8 copies of it. One of which I gave to a friend (the rest I sold to my fellow gamers at RRP).
Sometimes I think gamers panic for the sake of panicking.
@Pazuzu666 As long as they are for friends who missed out I think it is fine. Many of my friends have missed out already so I am selling my spares at RRP I am paying so they don't miss out and don't pay scalper prices. And sometimes I get cookies as a thanks. Fingers crossed for triple choc chip!
But selling them on eBay right away is what makes my skin crawl.
@th3r3ds0x And that punishes people who want one for them and their loved one/friends who share the same house.
I appreciate the idea but in reality it would not work. No matter what you do, scalpers will always find a way around it. Different addresses, different bank accounts, different emails, different names.
There is no answer to stopping them. PERIOD. They will always find a way.
@SLIGEACH_EIRE They are and they aren't. They weren't intending to have it sell out so fast however they were intending to sell all of them. The alternative is having them rot on shelves like the Animal Crossing amiibo.
Consumer interest is a nightmare to predict. It can go both ways

Re: You'll Still Be Playing As Link In Zelda: Breath Of The Wild's Next DLC Pack
All about the lobsters!
This is looking to be far more than I first thought about the DLC. Proper story telling makes me very excited about what the DLC will turn out like.
I think we are in for a treat with this DLC. Who knows what they will throw at us
Re: Monkey Island Creator's Thimbleweed Park Is Coming To Switch
I will happily pay for this. Monkey Island is a classic and looking at the reviews it is as good as it too!
Re: Deals: Pick Up A Nintendo Switch On Amazon US Today
@Fred13 There is a component shortage that is slowing down production of Switches. No amount of "making more Switches" that would have fixed this

@Menchi187 Ahhh I see. Can't be one then sadly. I have happily slammed many developers for dumb decisions but praised them for their smart decisions.
Is there a Nintendo Neutral Force?
Re: Oddworld Creator Lorne Lanning "Has No Faith" In Switch

@RedMageLanakyn There you go
https://twitter.com/Dystify/status/880116191414689798
France is getting 160,000 units. NES during its lifetime was 84,000
If France got double quantities, I am sure it applies to the rest of the world

Also from what I know, this is a one-off thing. They don't want to ramp up too many have have to sell them off at a loss.
And I would say it is pretty easy compared to how many I managed to nab. I might even have to cancel some I have too many.
