Re: Video: We Compare Super Mario RPG On Switch To The SNES Original

Glrd

@Lizuka Most of the name changes are being done to better reflect the original Japanese text. For all the good things Super Mario RPG has going for it the English translation isn't really one of them.

Not Woolsey's (the translator on the original) fault given the circumstances, but overall probably a good thing as there were plenty of mistranslations and weird continuity errors (e.g Koopa shell being called it's Japanese name NokNok Shell) in that OG TL.

Granted you do lose out on some of the nostalgia factor by changing things like character names, but overall this new version should read a little better than the original.

Re: Charles Martinet Will No Longer Be The Voice Of Mario

Glrd

@CharlieGirl God, I bloody hope not! I've personally got no issues with AI voices being used for fan works like internet memes if the original actors are ok with it but if they were to try to replace Charles with an AI imitation in a commercial product I wouldn't buy another Mario game again.

Though I'd hope Nintendo would be smart enough to realise the backlash they'd get for doing that and just try and hold auditions for a replacement VA in the future.

Re: UK Charts: Unsurprisingly, Final Fantasy XVI Knocks Zelda: TOTK Down A Peg

Glrd

@Wheatly The problem with Final Fantasy as a franchise is the series has had so many combat revisions and system changes over the years that saying something doesn't "sound like Final Fantasy at all" doesn't really hold any weight anymore because the series has never had any real consistency in terms of what makes it FF-like.

And people said the exact same thing about FF7's ATB gameplay when it came out complaining about how it wasn't turn based, and that game is one of the most beloved in the series now.

I'll definitely agree that the game is lacking in RPG mechanics in terms of character building especially in comparison to FF7 Remake but the actual feel of the combat is miles better FF7R IMO.

Re: Review: Fire Emblem - The Blazing Blade Is Still As Sharp As Ever

Glrd

I would strongly disagree with it not being the prettiest, imo all 3 GBA Fire Emblem games have the most appealing graphical design in the series. Not to mention the animations are still amazing, better than any of the modern games. For me only Engage has even come close to matching that level of dynamic animation quality.

Re: Kazuya & Sephiroth amiibo Release 13th January, Pyra & Mythra Arrive In 2023

Glrd

@Mando44646 Pyra and Mythra are considered seperate fighters, and both play differently so it makes sense they got seperate amiibos. In Steve's case the only thing I can think of is some kind of contractual obligation with Microsoft to do an amiibo for Alex as well, otherwise it doesn't really make a lot of sense. I agree though, it is disappointing that some of the other characters like Byleth and the DQ Heroes didn't get alt amiibos.

Re: Xenoblade Chronicles 3 Collector's Edition Is Finally Available To Pre-Order, If You Can Access The Site

Glrd

Got mine preordered as soon as I saw the email. One of the benefits of working from home I guess, otherwise I probably would've missed out. Still they've had months to prepare for this, and after the crapshow that was the NA preorders maybe they should've prepared a bit better this time around?

Sucks that people that want one won't be able to because of how awful Nintendo's store is. Hope everybody still trying manages to get one!

Re: We've Got To Wait A Bit Longer For Xenoblade Chronicles 3 Collector's Editions (EU + UK)

Glrd

Genuinely have no clue what's going on with Nintendo UK at the minute. If your store is too shoddily made to handle the simple act of putting up an item for pre order then maybe don't make it exclusive to said store in the first place.

With Xeno 2 and DE the collector's editions were available at most retailers online, and as such were fairly easy to get ahold of but now with 3 90% of people that want one aren't even going to be able to because scalpers will scoop them up within 5 minutes.

They've even already stated in an email that was sent out that based off of the number of people that registered interest in the CE not everyone will be able to get a copy. If you know the demand is there then maybe, I don't know, manufacture more?

A second print run that's manufactured to order (i.e put up an unlimited number of preorders for a small period and then make them based off the number of orders they received) would literally solve the issue and ensure everyone has a chance.

Re: Don't Worry, Xenoblade Chronicles 3 Special Editions Are On The Way

Glrd

@Otoemetry This, they said September for us but it's looking more like early October at this rate. Worst part is you can guarantee they'll only be in stock for like 5 minutes whenever they do go up. If they were going to take this long to actually manufacture the darn things I genuinely don't get why they didn't just put preorders up way back before the games launch and then just made them to order so nobody that wanted one missed out.

Re: The New Fire Emblem Hero Was Created By A VTuber Designer

Glrd

To the people blaming Mika for the issues with the design, you do realise that the artists don't just come up with them on their own? The devs tell them what they have in mind for a character's look (for example "we want a tall, refined girl with long black hair, and regal attire like a princess") and their personality and the artist draws what they're told.

They go back and forth with the devs adjusting the design until they settle on what the final version will be. The toothpaste hair colour and heterochromia was most likely part of the original design request, and the devs and Nintendo both approved it so it's not really fair to blame the artist if you don't like it.

Re: Video: Digital Foundry Investigates Switch's Lowest Resolution Games

Glrd

The quote "We're nearing the end of the Nintendo Switch's lifecycle" is baffling considering Nintendo literally said earlier this year that the Switch was at a midpoint in it's lifecycle. Anyone expecting an entirely new Nintendo console to even be announced next year is just setting themselves up for dissapointment.

Hell, at this point, I don't even see a Switch Pro coming. Given chip shortages and cost of living increases I just don't think Nintendo would see it as profitable. Had these things not been a factor maybe we would already have seen a Pro model by now.

Re: Nintendo Once Again Reassures It Has No Plans To Increase Switch Prices

Glrd

Honestly, I have never hoped for a company to fail as much as Sony right now. It's like they've been running down the checklist of "things not to do" for the past few years.

Upping the prices of first party games to an absurd £70, the PS5 console price increase, the new PS Plus tiers, which at the highest tier is a borderline scam. Even their general PR image and interviews could not be more out of touch with reality.

The Team Asobi "We want our games to feel like they're made in Japan" quote was particularly laugh worthy given Sony's treatment of the JP market over the last 5 years and the fact that the person in charge of the supposedly Japanese studio is not even Japanese.

It's like they think they're too big to fail, but even if the hardware is selling out the plummeting software sales for PS5 show a different story. It's a shame because old Playstation consoles used to be great, but my PS5 is basically acting as a glorified PS4 Pro at the moment.

Hopefully Nintendo steer well clear of the crappy buisness practices Sony have been adhering to. I just pray the runaway success of the Switch doesn't give them a big head and make them "do a Sony" so to speak.

Re: Live A Live Producer: Nintendo Wanted Game On Virtual Console, Led To Remake Conversation

Glrd

Man seeing all these HD-2D remakes like DQ3 and LAL really makes me hope Square keeps going through their back catalog and remaking games like this.

I know it wasn't originally on Nintendo consoles, but I'd kill for a Xenogears HD-2D remake. Given Nintendo owns Monolith, I feel like if they brought up the topic they could maybe make something happen there. Square could develop with Takahashi and his team supervising.

Of course this is just wishful thinking on my part, Square doesn't seem to want to do anything with Gears other than shove it's characters in gacha games and make merch so idk.

Re: Random: GQ Calls Video Game Patches "Laziness", And People Are Not Impressed

Glrd

Whether or not a day one patch is 'lazy' or 'bad depends on how the game holds up without it. If the game is content complete on launch, and the patch just optimises a few things like performance and fixes bugs then it's no problem whatsoever.

If the game is a broken mess without a day one patch, or lacking content that should have been included on the cartridge/disc (Pokemon BDSP comes to mind) then yeah, I think we need to be more critical of that so big publishers don't rush games to market (which is NOT the developers fault by the way) and patch the problems afterwards.

When the online servers for a console get shut down in the future, and patches are no longer available then anybody who tries to get ahold of the game legally by buying a used copy at that point will never be able to have the complete/optimal version.

At that point, you're just encouraging people to pirate to get the 'true' experience.

Re: Review: Xenoblade Chronicles 3 - An Epic, Emotionally-Charged Masterpiece

Glrd

@RadioHedgeFund Eh, as a 2 fan myself I'm ok with it personally, even if I can see why some don't like it. It was hinted at that W understood Z's feelings in post battle dialogue and it was hinted at with the NG+ title screen that there might be something like that going on between them after the game so I think at the very least I think it's silly to be shocked by it. Also X and Y probably already knew the way Z feels about X, and I think commiting to being in a relationship like that takes a lot of emotional maturity from them.
The only part I have a problem with about the image is basically that it's going to be the only thing discussed about 3's ending for a while, and take away from 3 a lot in that regard.

(Side note, thanks for actually explaining people's issue with it, most of the people I've discussed it on either side of the argument have been pretty awful when it comes to explaining why they're for/against it. A lot of hyperbole going around so I appreciate it!)

Re: Xenoblade Chronicles 3 Has Leaked And Is Fully Playable On The Steam Deck

Glrd

@ModdedInkling Actually most if not all switch games that leak early (including this one) come from physical carts sold before release being dumped online so it has nothing to do with preloads, as the digital versions are completely inaccessible until the release date as far as I’m aware. The only solution for Nintendo would be shipping the games to retailers later, but then they run the risk of customers not being able to buy the game at launch.

Re: Portal 2 Beta Levels Discovered In Datamine Of The Switch Version

Glrd

@SteamEngenius Yes, but to be fair almost all games include at least some form of cut content in the files so if you buy any game digitally it'd be the same. It's more harmful to remove those files as you run the risk of creating new bugs so leaving them in but inaccessable is safer.

Re: Nintendo Direct Mini To Air Tomorrow, June 28

Glrd

Personally hoping that Persona 3, 4 and 5 get announced here, already own them on other platforms but would love to have them on switch too.

@Vortexeo Bayo is first party (Nintendo are publishing it) so almost a zero percent chance it shows up here. Course, I'd love to be proven wrong in this case but I think it's best not to expect it.

Re: Pokémon Scarlet And Violet Will Get A Brand New Trailer Tomorrow

Glrd

Expecting a reveal of the new "gimmick" (like mega evos, z moves, dynamax etc.) for this gen and maybe some early route mons and the regional professor. Maybe the box legends if we're lucky. I just hope they took some of Legends Arceus's DNA and stuck it in the mainline games. That game was a little rough presentation wise but had some cool ideas.
