Xenoblade Chronicles 3 got off to a strong start when it was released in July, but one minor setback was the delay of the special edition/collector's edition in select locations around the world.
Months later, it seems Nintendo has finally got around to shipping the fancier physical copies of the game in the US and certain other countries. If you ordered this version with all the extra goodies check your emails as you may or may not have received a notification about it being sent. You might also have an update on the My Nintendo Store.
If you've already received the game, the remaining items to look forward include package artwork from Masatsugu Saito, a full-colour 250+ page hardcover art book and a steel case:
Here's a previous message from Nintendo regarding the delay of the additional contents:
"If you pre-purchase the #XenobladeChronicles3 Collector’s Edition, you will receive the game software from 29/07. The additional contents of the Collector’s Edition will be delivered separately at a later date with free delivery."

Yeah stuff like this is why I skipped out on the special edition lol.
People still haven't got them?! They should have offered a free digital download for this kind of delay
"free delivery" !!!! WOW!!!
What's the point of making Special Edition with limited number of production and delivery this late? If the demand is so high, why can't they make it unlimited. Do they hate money?
It isn't even up for pre-order yet in the UK
Yeah...still haven't gotten my email yet. Getting kind of worried, but all I can do is wait, I suppose.
@Otoemetry This, they said September for us but it's looking more like early October at this rate. Worst part is you can guarantee they'll only be in stock for like 5 minutes whenever they do go up. If they were going to take this long to actually manufacture the darn things I genuinely don't get why they didn't just put preorders up way back before the games launch and then just made them to order so nobody that wanted one missed out.
I can't wait for mine to come in! I just hope they're packaged properly...
@Sequel They shipped the game separately back when it first launched, so everyone who ordered the SE has already received the game. Now they're shipping the rest of the contents.
Received my copy this morning. The book is nice as expected as well as the Steelbook, but sadly no soundtrack album this time around.
Ha, many people still couldn't even preorder it the second time. What a crock of BS on Nintendo's part.
Insult to injury. Just stop with this Nintendo. Let the market decide on the number of collectors editions, instead of a broken download page,
@iLikeUrAttitude I gave it a shot just because I could. I wasn't TOO invested although I did have it on a seperate screen for several hours in an attempt to get through.
It was frustraiting but I was ready to fail.
Mine arrived a few minutes ago. You get the box with the steelbook, the artbook and an space for the game we got earlier to go.
Yep, and in the eu we are still waiting for the option to order…..
Got the game when it released and just waiting for the rest of it to arrive.
Would've been happy just waiting for the whole lot tbh.
I haven't even opened the game yet, too bigger backlog.
One thing that was odd is that the box comes with a shrinkwrapped empty standard Switch case for the game. Now I have 2 standard Switch cases for the game...
Yeah…glad I just got the standard physical edition. The special edition doesn’t even look that great and definitely not worth that wait lol
@Sequel
Here's a previous message from Nintendo regarding the delay of the additional contents:
Oh boy! I can't wait to get my new art book that I won't look at for years because I'll want to finish the game first, and then by the time I do finish the game I'll have forgotten about the art book!
In the UK it is a complete ***** show. They sent out an email a couple of weeks ago or so to be ready for the preorder to go up because there will be less copies than the people that have registered interest for it, so it will basically disappear within seconds. The preorder is still not up. Nintendo has handled this terribly.
Please add that this, only, is fur the US.
Nintendo seriously messed up on the delivery of this Special Edition (not to mention the preorder fiasco which was its own nightmare). I know it might sound greedy to ask, but everyone who ordered the SE should get the DLC pass for free.
Has there already been a recent release of the SE in the US? Please tell me I didn’t somehow miss this again…
@Eddyson Nope I got mine today and I'm in Australia.
Lucky lucky. Welp, here’s hoping the US store throws some copies up for grabs.
Please, Nintendo gods…do not forsake me to the evil scalpers…PLEASE! 🙏
I wasn’t worried. It shipped on the day they said it would. Got my notification yesterday. Oh NL, no patience
for standard editions should give us a nice bonus to come with it like the artbook cause these days scalpers make it hard to get special editions which is not fair which is why this problem needs to be resolved.
Meanwhile in EU they haven't even started taking pre-orders yet.
@Maxz that's outrageous. They should have shipped the base game or sent a free digital download with that kind of delay. Thanks for sharing
I wanted that so bad but scalpers goin scalp.
@RiasGremory Yeah I kept trying every wave and couldn't get one. Really pisses me off cause I have every other Xenoblade collector edition.
@Sequel I mean… they did. The game was released worldwide on the 29th of July. The statement above says, “You will receive the game software from 29/07. The additional contents of the Collector’s Edition will be delivered separately at a later date with free delivery."
So, the base game was delivered on launch day, and then ask the Collector’s Edition gubbins was shipped at a later date when it became available.
@Maxz agreed. They should have shipped the game itself earlier then the extra stuff etc later. Hopefully they can learn from it
Talk about timing. Just got my email while reading this article.
@Sequel The thing you’re saying they should done is exactly what they did.
@Maxz I'm glad they finally did something. Maybe us speaking out about it pressured them into action
@Sequel But they did this at the very beginning before anyone spoke out about anything.
I bought xenoblade chronicles 3 when it first came out and still haven’t played it, I have a huge backlog, plus I have intense depression, I just lay there in the bed on my phone and lose days of not playing my video games, and today I have a dentist appointment, maybe next year I’ll play it if I’m not depressed
Got my email today, but not the one I was expecting.
