Re: Poll: So, Will You Be Playing Final Fantasy XIV Online On Switch 2?

Genichiro

For me it entirely depends on whether there’s a free trial that’s as extensive as on other platforms (entirety of the reworked base game called A Realm Reborn, and the first two or maybe three expansions). The free trial on other platforms is literally hundreds of hours of free content with some reasonable restrictions.
My concern is that they way they’ve phrased it as “free trial for the first month then a monthly sub” implies that that’s the only free trial, but I deeply hope that isn’t the case. From what I’ve read people don’t seem to think it will be.

Re: "New Players Won't Feel Alone" - Square Enix Partners With Google For AI-Powered Dragon Quest Companion

@dew12333 I’m grateful for your respectful reply but don’t think it’s a fair comparison. That’s like saying a rapper who is inspired by the greats of the past and works to incorporate certain flows and ideas from the work of Lauryn Hill, Tupac, Biggy etc, is equivalent to someone writing “write me a song that sounds like Tupac” into ChatGPT.
One is a continuation of an artist pursuit which appreciates artists of the tradition, whereas the other requires no skill, creativity, or effort.
I say AI is the death of art because it removes the requirement for critical thought, honed skill, and originality which are the hallmarks of good art.

Followed this game for a while waiting for the switch launch, the systems and emergent gameplay are super deeeeeep and interesting.
Having only played it on switch 2 handheld it's essential to zoom in/out a bit (I think it's ZL+rightDpad / ZL+leftDpad) as the default is tinyyyy.
Still so much to uncover and loving it!
first death was friendly fire from my pet... I was level 1 XD

Re: Video: Hollow Knight - Side-By-Side Graphics And Performance Comparison (Switch 2 & Switch)

I tried HK years ago on PS4 but bounced off it partly due to being bad at platformers. I love the Souls series and it often gets compared in terms of design philosophy, so I knew one day I would try it again. I got a switch 1 copy a few months ago for my switch 2 but something just told me to wait before starting it... and now a full NS2 Edition! I played 5 hours of it last night, up to that bench with the rainy window (you know the one) and I am astounded by the quality and feel of this game. It is so beautiful and immersive (which everyone knows) but it also FEELS so good in terms of movement.
RIP my free time, I am hooked!

Re: Talking Point: Metroid Prime 4 And The Burden Of Being 'Good Enough'

Genichiro

This was my first Prime entry after recently playing and deeply enjoying Metroid Dread. I have the Prime Remaster sitting waiting for me to get the Metroid itch again. I picked up Prime 4 for the Switch 2 at a cheap price partly because I wanted to experience next gen Nintendo.
I also found the first maybe 10 hours to be fantastic. It was buttery smooth and I felt so immersed: it is genuinely jaw droppingly stunning at times and some nice music. I was also unfortunately influenced by the hate the game was getting. I found Sol valley fairly mediocre but not offensively so. I think the NPCs were not needed but not all a flop, at times I found them endearing. I think the combination of Mackenzie and Sol Valley genuinely intrusive and I wish you could turn him off or you could just call when you needed him. Also gating the music behind Amiibo is a baaad precedent.
I think overall it was decent, as my first 3D Metroid I had a great time up until the last 2/3 hours. I found the last 2 bosses a bit disappointing and the ending area overall very anticlimactic. Also the amount of green crystals needed was ridiculous.
I should say I played docked with motion controls and actually loved it, it took a little getting used to but felt amazing once I got the hang of it.
It feels like the first 10ish hours are like a solid 8/8.5 that drops to a 7 in the last 5/7 hours.

Re: Review: Animal Crossing: New Horizons (Switch) - An Approachable And Addictive Masterpiece

200+ hours in this game and while it’s a great little island designer game, I entirely stopped talking to my islanders not very long into the game as frankly they have nothing to say. The villagers in this game are just props. I recently had the privilege of buying a New 3DS XL and a copy of New Leaf, and that game which came out many years before NH feels vastly more living. Also whoever asked for item durability in animal crossing? I think having even the best golden tools have durability was an unfortunate addition that only wastes time. With all that said I’ve had plenty fun with decorating my island and house. It’s just that animal crossing was always more about the animals, and here they’re just lifeless droids.

Re: Pokémon Kicks Off 30th Anniversary Celebrations With Animated Logo Reveal

@Duncanballs yellow really holds up it’s excellent! Of the kinda older titles, emerald, platinum and black/white are generally considered the strongest. Problem is finding copies if you want to play legit, I managed to pick up a mint DS Lite and copies of platinum and black for about £110. Emerald is significantly harder as it has an internal battery for timed events and they cost a lot, also there’s lots of dupes. Emulation is then likely the most accessible option

Re: The Best Nintendo Switch 2 Games

This is my first comment on NintendoLife after being an account-less lurker for about a year! Came here to say I’m very pleased with cyberpunk on Switch. Performance/graphics leave something to be desired but it’s an incredible port on a handheld!
