Re: Best Contra Games On Nintendo Systems

GamerGrandpa

@MontyCircus
That's cool to see. I can probably agree with that. There were a LOT of great NES games (and Master System too) and Contra, like others on here have said, is close to perfect for what was expected of a 8bit game back then. And, of course, Super Mario Bros 3 does stand in a tier above all by itself.

Re: N64 Classic Yoshi's Story Celebrates Its 25th Anniversary Today

GamerGrandpa

Yeah I agree with most on here. Not sure I'd call it a classic either. It was a decently fun game. Also, it wasn't like there were just huge, constant stream of game releases for the N64 back then like we enjoy now. I bought it back then, my son was just turning 3 years old. He got some good enjoyment out of it as one of his earliest game experiences.

Re: Best Wii U Games

GamerGrandpa

I remember lots of gamers being so excited about the prospect of Minecraft on Wii U, and then we find out it doesn't have gamepad inventory management or anything. I guess Microsoft were afraid it would be the definitive console edition of the game.

Re: Review: A Plague Tale: Requiem - Cloud Version - Plagued By More Than The Typical Cloud Caveats

GamerGrandpa

Yeah I agree with others on here. Why do these cloud versions if they are gonna run so poorly? Just to say it is on Switch? I'm old and I am not an IT guy, but is there not a way to make these cloud games run good on Switch? I understand the hang-up of them being cloud versions in the first place and people being hesitant to spend money on them knowing they will be unplayable in the near future, but I would be likely to give many of them a try if they even just ran slightly decent.

Re: Nintendo Says It Wants To Avoid A Repeat Of Wii U With Switch's Successor

GamerGrandpa

@Pillowpants
Yeah I think your point on Nintendo combining their handheld and home console is one their best decisions by far. They only have to make games for one platform instead of two now. Other developers looking at the huge install base for 3DS compared to Wii U were gonna spend more resources on games for 3DS virtually every time. Now they just need to go with more power to get some of those AAA multiplatform games that either won't work feasibly on Switch or require too many downgrades. Doesn't have to be top of the line and go toe to toe with new Xbox and Playstation, but definitely needs to be closer than Switch was. It started off behind the Xbox One and Playstation 4, much less the Series X and 5!

Re: Talking Point: Is It Ever A Good Idea To Start At 'The Beginning' Of Series Like Zelda Or Dragon Quest?

GamerGrandpa

@HawkeyeWii
It's funny. It took a lot of word-of-mouth with friends and classmates (some of whom had access to a magazine or maps that give hints and which direction to proceed) to beat those games back then. Same with Dragon Warrior/Quest. My copy of the game actually came with a guide. I used it as sparingly as I could. The games were thoroughly enjoyable back then. You had use a certain amount of imagination with them. I can definitely see where younger gamers today maybe would not enjoy those early games very much.

Re: Kit And Krysta Reveal Their Least Favourite Mario And Zelda Games

GamerGrandpa

I agree New Super Mario 2 seemed a lot easier than other Mario games, and is probably one of my least favorite ones. But I did love the coin rush mode. That was a neat little extra that gave me a lot of extra playtime out of it, seeing how many coins I could accumulate and seeing how your totals stacked up against others (especially through StreetPass)

Re: Soapbox: Why Can't Nintendo Offer Both Virtual Console And Switch Online?

GamerGrandpa

@Illusion
That's how I feel as well. The NSO is not overpriced. I have no problem with it if, like you say, it moves onto the Switch successor with same content it has and does not start over again. I have about 120 games on Wii VC and then I paid the small upgrade fee to redownload them on Wii U simply for the ability to play them on the tablet. A lot of people balked at the idea of having to pay for the games again then (and understandably so). They should have found a way to migrate the entire catalog over to each successive system.

I agree that they should offer both, the subscription service and the ability to buy individual titles. Though with 75 NES games, 52 SNES games, 11 (5 more confirmed) N64 games, 19 Sega Genesis games available, it could get expensive a-la-carte at even $5 per game.
