Re: Humble Nindie Bundle Adds Three New Games

@Spacey "Why was the average donation a $9.20? Those people could've paid 0.80 cents more for 5 more games!!!"

I'd imagine the "average" here is the mean, rather than the mode.

i.e. Lots of people paid a dollar or two, and lot's paid fifteen or so dollars - making the (mean) average just under ten dollars,

Re: The Hyrule Warriors Artbook Catches The Eye With 'Female Link'

FuseBlues

@bezerker99 The point being made, I think, is that almost every Link has been a different character - a descendant of the Link character in Skyward Sword. This places the character in a relatively unique position in video-games insomuch as the gender of those in his bloodline don't have to be the same every time. The same, it should be noted, applies to Zelda.

@Action51 "I think the point both you and @DarkKirby aren't getting is that you are not entitled to free content just because it's easier to steal digitally and you believe it's overpriced."

I suspect we're actually talking about slightly different things here. I don't think either of us was suggesting it is either ethical or legal that people breach copyright. However, one needs to look at what works in deterring piracy, and as an industry what is the most effective way of tackling it. And piracy to a large degree is demonstrably a service issue, and when attempts have been made through punitive means, they have usually failed.

The most effective way of tackling the problem (and, yes, it is a problem) has been overwhelmingly shown to be by changing a business model. It's not a question of morality - it's a question looking objectively at how the business can survive and thrive.

@Action51 "If a company doesn't want their trademarks ripped off, they should make ideas and products so ugly and unworkable that no one wants to steal them?"

That is almost exactly the opposite of what @DarkKirby said. The key issue is that piracy is, for the most part, a service issue. It's been demonstrated by business models such as Steam and iTunes - especially where the music industry responded (eventually) effectively to Napster with quick, convenient and user-friendly digital music.

Of course there are always people who will pirate stuff - just as there are always people who will steal from shops or mug people. However, for the most part it's about adapting a business model to make paying the easier and more worthwhile thing to do.

Re: PDP Confirms the GameCube-Inspired Wired Fight Pad For Wii and Wii U

@MuchoMochi
1) True - but the article does make clear.... ish. Sort of. A bit.
2) Nope. I'm a bit twitchy about this, as my partner has OCD, and it's nothing like people's assumptions (obsessions and compulsions are almost always unrelated). Sounds like OCPD. I'm a proper killjoy about this, and for that I apologise, but OCD is a very distressing condition that people trivialise by perpetuating the misunderstanding that it has anything to do with order or suchlike.
3) The internet is awesome. I was going to post a picture of Jeremy Beadle, but wasn't sure that would translate generations or nationalities.

As a side note, why is there not actual wired GC controller for WiiU (SSB branded if necessary). Sometimes I think Nintendo just don't want money.

Some interesting comments about ME3.

My wife and I played and LOVED the Mass Effect trilogy on Xbox 360. If EA had brought out the trilogy on WiiU, we'd have purchased it again for the gamepad functionality. Instead they put out the third part of a trilogy, and then grumbled that no-one bought it. sigh
