It's time for more Nintendo Download Update goodness, and this week gamers in North America have a high-profile retail arrival on 3DS to consider alongside a long-awaited dual release on the portable and Wii U. There are some promising download-only games on offer too, so let's get to the details.
Missed the European Nintendo Download update earlier in the week? Darn. Well, don't fret, the details are all right here - now with the correct date after we bizarrely gave it a headline for 6th November earlier in the week...
Wii U eShop
Electronic Super Joy (Broken Rules, $7.99) - The predecessor to Electronic Super Joy: Groove City, which was released in North America by a different publisher, this version includes extras and DLC from the PC original. It's precision platforming that's also extremely stylish in its presentation, and we gave it a strong recommendation in our Electronic Super Joy review.
Christmas Adventure of Rocket Penguin (Petite Games, $1.99) - In concept this looks like a budget version of Kirby and the Rainbow Curse, as you draw a route for your character using the GamePad and stylus. We'll slide into a review for this soon.
Wii U Virtual Console
Stinger (Konami, $4.99) - This was actually the first sequel to the original Twinbee, but was renamed for its NES release in North America way back in 1987. You fly and shoot, basically, and as this never got a Wii Virtual Console release in the West it's a bit of a rare treat; we'll blast out a review soon. This was listed in Nintendo of America's press release as a 3DS Virtual Console title, but as a Wii U release on its website. Following the update showing this on Wii U we updated this article.
Wii U Retail Download
Rodea the Sky Soldier (NIS America, $49.99) - After a long time waiting this Yuji Naka title - or at least it was in its original guise - is finally on the way. It's been delayed a few times and was a commercial flop in Japan, yet we had fun with it when we got to play it earlier in the year. Available from 10th November.
The Peanuts Movie: Snoopy's Grand Adventure (Activision, $39.99)
Wii U eShop Temporary Discounts
Nano Assault Neo (Shin'en Multimedia, $7.49 until 26th November, normally $9.99)
SDK Paint (HullBreach Studios, $2.99 from 6th November to 13th November, normally $3.99)
3DS eShop
Toki Tori 3D (Two Tribes, $1.99) - A puzzle title that's been popular on multiple formats over the years, this entry has been ported by Engine Software. There's a 'rewind' feature and item swapping on the touch screen, so this could potentially be a particularly strong version of the game; we'll hatch out and bring you a review soon.
3DS Retail Downloads
Yo-Kai Watch (Nintendo / Level-5, $39.99) - This series has become a phenomenon in Japan, with the anime series, toys and various spin-off games all contributing to its success. It'll now try and repeat the trick in North America, with its twist on battle mechanics and collecting Yo-Kai raising similarities to Pokémon while, undoubtedly, forging its own identity. We rather enjoyed our hands-on session with it earlier this year and will bring you a review soon. Available from 6th November.
Rodea the Sky Soldier (NIS America, $39.99) - The portable version of this title could provide a nice alternative for those seeking fast-paced action on the go. Available from 10th November.
The Peanuts Movie: Snoopy's Grand Adventure (Activision, $29.99)
3DS eShop Temporary Discounts
Shin Megami Tensei: Devil Survivor 2: Record Breaker (Atlus, $29.99 from 9th November to 23rd November, normally $39.99)
Siesta Fiesta (Mojo Bones, $1.49 until 12th November, normally $5.99)
The Keep (Cinemax, $7.99 until 18th November, normally $12.99)
3DS Demos
Battleminer (Wobbly Tooth, free)
That's everything for this week's Nintendo Download Update in North America - let us know what you plan to pick up in the poll and comments below.

I wanted Konami Krazy Racers grrrrrr
Something on the 3DS VC? Holy ....
Dangit... Was hoping for Dementium
Nothing this week.
Luckily, nothing I want. Can't buy anything this week anyway as I just pre-purchased Fallout 4.
Are you sure Stinger is for 3DS VC and not Wii U VC???
Geez Rodea The Sky soldier had a hell of a wait. It could use a launch trailer or 2 because I and probably most other forgot of it's existence because of it's major lull period. Can't wait to see it live!
...oh look the 3DS vc service is back online... WAIT WHAT?!
I guess it's finally time to give PANDORA'S TOWER a go . . ,
I am glad I own a PS4, Fallout and Call of Duty for me, sadly nothing I am interested in for the WiiU or 3DS.
Nothing for me this week, already have Battleminer
Pleeeeeeeeeeease Nintendo of America, release Metroid zero mission, it does not make any sense taking all this time and not releasing this game the whole world has it except the US
@Captain_Toad
Yeah I'm excited to play Rodea. You're right, Nintendo should help advertise it. There is virtually nothing else out right now for Wii-U, we didn't even get a VC game this week?! You'd figure a rare exclusive game for them would be something to jump on.
Thanks Nintendo, this is one of the first weeks I could save some $$ in a while.
No Nintendo for me this week. Getting Trails in the Sky SC for PSP.
http://www.nintendo.com/games/detail/ICzTtdBSzbIOv_vWXwzJEh_eZ5g0wQDq
Stinger is for the Wii U VC, not 3DS VC.
Also I'm pretty let down that MMBN5 didn't make it over here since its out in Japan and coming to EU this week.
Bummer. I was hoping for r.e. 4. Maybe next Halloween
I'll be playing some Octodad Wii U, which I DL'd yesterday.
Toki Tori 3D does look intriguing. I'll wait until NL reviews that.
Rodea! I ordered this a long time ago, for the pricy $90 tag =.=. Really hoping its as good as it looks! Was always a fan of the creator especially when it came to NiGHTS!
@Discipledoctor ...bummer.
Nothing for me this week. May check out Rodea and Yokai Watch eventually though.
You should mention the 20% off Splatoon discount, too, for those that downloaded the Testfire demo.
Also, SIESTA FIESTA!
I've been sitting on some eShop credit I got for a few weeks. I do have other VC games and Smash DLC to get, but I wanted to see what else manifested.
I guess that means "nothing until the Direct" for me.
Man... N.o.A. disappoints as per usual. I'm kinda getting the feeling that if the N.X. doesn't shape up over here I might go ahead and buy the European version and import all my stuff from there. I thought Reggie was all about kicking *** and making games but seems more like sucking *** and doing diddly squat to get stuff accomplished. Maybe he should go back to making pizza...
Getting Toki Tori 3D. Probably getting Rodea and Yo-Kai Watch physically. Might also get Devil Survivor 2 if it's a good price on the Canadian eShop.
Junk as usual.
I think I'm picking up Yo-Kai but I may get something else......we shall see.
I said I would get Overclocked 2 when it hits less then 30 so I'll keep my word. Almost done with Persona Q, although that could mean another 20 to 25 hours lol
@Zach777 You do realize that Reggie doesn't have much say in anything right? He's a PR figurehead.
Getting YoKai on retail.
And please people, get Siesta Fiesta if somehow you don't have it. A buck and a half, really?!
Will get Yokai Watch retail before end of the year, and Rodea the Sky Soldier as well.
Nothing for me this week, but very glad to see a VC game. Hooray for Konami! NOA and other game companies: DO NOT LET THE 3DS VC DIE! Release SNES games on the 3DS VC and watch the money flow in like Niagara Falls.
Siesta Fiesta looks like something my kids might want to pick up. And I think everybody was raving about it way back on Monday when NoE announced their release schedule for the week.
One thing I would like once again to give Ninteod credit for is letting us buy $1.50 games on a credit card. My kid bought Swords & Soldiers 2 a couple of days ago for $15.99 and had about $2.70 left. Bought the SMM stage for SBB and he was 7 cents short from his $20 eShop card. Nintneod let me charge 7 cents to my credit card w/o having to put on any minimum amount. i think Wii had a $10 minimum and Sony still has a $5 minimum on it's PSN store.
One thing eShop really needs though is a cart. I don't understand that with all the things they sell on the eShop I can't put 2 or 3 in a cart at once to buy them all at once, I need to go thru the purchase process for each thing.
Win some, lose some. I suppose there is always room for improvement. But at least they take my money. Silly Sony, losing out on so many sales to me.
@IceClimbers I guess that's all NOA really is. A glorified PR department.
@Pablo17 I was going to say the same thing. BO3 and FO4 or this? ...hmmmmm
@bro2dragons Siesta Fiesta is a really fun game!
Holy poop, a 3DS VC game! Hopefully it doesn't get pulled by NoA.
@Superryanworld That has no idea what the hell their doing.
@IceClimbers Well then they should fire his behind and pay a salary to a President who gets the job done. I know he has to answer to Japan now and lost his autonomy a few years back, hence giving him reason to slack off and do nothing accept collect a paycheck, but he's still President, I'm sure he could do more to promote 3DS and Wii U if he wanted to. I just honestly believe he really hates NoJ since his demotion and sees American gamers as whiny entitled cry babies who do nothing but complain. He's totally done making any but the bare minimum effort to keep his job. Where has he been since E3? What has he been doing? Nothing.
Things he could do:
Fly to the Ninteod World store in Manhattan every few weeks to promote things and shake hands. There are still some people who like him.
Appear on Treehouse Live.
Create his own Podcasts similar to Iwata Asks.
Give us the eShop updates on Monday like NoE does rather than wait until Thursday morning hours before.
Where are the mall pop-up play areas this year? My kids and I had fun at 1 last year.
He's the President, figurehead or not, it all starts with him.
Let me know when we actually get VC games we care about and not VC games NoA thinks we would want.
@ThomasBW84 This page says Stinger is coming to Wii U, not 3DS.
http://www.nintendo.com/games/detail/ICzTtdBSzbIOv_vWXwzJEh_eZ5g0wQDq
@ravens326 It seems Stinger is a typo, see my top part of comment.
@Grumblevolcano Interesting, the press release definitely says 3DS, I'll try and clarify.
Wait am I seeing things the 3DS is actually getting a vc game this week and hasn't the Battleminer demo already been out for a while now I've sworn I've played it before?
Can wholly recommend Siesta Fiesta. Great price for it!
@manu0 I know right? What has happened to the world?!
Edit: Oh apparently it's for Wii U VC not 3DS. Makes more sense.
I just really wish we got Crisis Force from Konami...preferably on 3DS.
At that price I might grab Toki Tori though.
I'll probably be getting Siesta Fiesta, but that's it. I'll be getting hard copies of Rodea (if I get it) and Yokai Watch.
Oh maaaaaaaaaan, there's nothing this week on the eShop, now i'll have money saved for amiibos and Five Guys, as well as socks for sock puppets
I'll get Stinger, if it does indeed end up being for the 3DS VC. I'm picking up Yo-Kai at retail. Also interested in seeing the full reviews for Rodea.
New major retail games, indie release, discounts, 3DS virtual console, and a demo?
Terrible!
@Salnax I know, right? It's almost as if they don't want my quarters & nickels!
@xHHHx I agree completely. I remember last year around this time thinking that it was going to be released soon because that is the one Metroid game I haven't played. Then months later when it was released in Europe I got excited because surely that meant it would be coming to NA soon, but here we are. It does not make sense to me why it wouldn't be released yet.
@IceClimbers
I am pretty certain he hase some weight with what he says and what he can do in the company. They don't just shove him out to the press give schpeels about whatever Nintendo of America does. He's not just a voice who talks, man. If he moved to action to get some stuff done then something would get done. You don't think he just sits around and twiddles his thums at work all day until then need someone to give excuses all the day long, do you?
Nothing again...
Hey, look! So many people whined about Virtual Console offerings on Wii U that Nintendo didn't even bother this time around.
Nothing for me this week, yet again...
Getting Rodea retail...still gotta pick up shovel knight retail. I think I'll also get Siesta Fiesta and Electronic Super Joy
Was gonna get Rodea as I had it preordered, but I'm gonna have to hold off on that one. Need what little money I have, I'd rather not spend it on a game that doesn't seem like it'll hold up.
I have no idea what Stinger is, but it's crazy to see something on the 3DS VC again, and nothing on Wii U. Couldn't we have fit in one of those the US has been missing like, Metroid Zero Mission, Super Mario RPG, Wild Gunman, etc.?
Nothing for me, though I'm vaguely interested in Yo-Kai Watch. I still haven't gotten around to trying the demo.
|sf>Wow! Stinger is literally my favorite NES game of all time. Ever since I bought my Wii in 2007 I've been waiting for it to arrive on Virtual Console. I've bought a lot of other VC titles, but Stinger is one of the games most responsible for changing me from a passive viewer of NES games into a player of NES games. I probably wouldn't still be here as a gamer if it weren't for this game. I've mentioned the game in Club Nintendo forms over the years (among other titles), so I was impressed and shocked to see it appear in the release after such a long wait.
However, this morning I've visited both the Wii U shop and the 3DS shop and I can't find the title within either shop! All the other games from the press release are already up there. I'm hoping that it's just late or maybe I'm overlooking it somehow?
For everyone complaining about Stinger, the Wii VC had nearly every other title in the series except for that one. It's a game I've loved so much that our original NES cartridge has developed glitches and is nearly unplayable, despite always having been stored within the plastic sleeve.
There will be other weeks where we will get other titles, but everyone has that one special game that changed them as a gamer.
We have to buy Stinger. Nintendo needs to get the message that there's still a market for the VC.
@Discipledoctor: Of coarse it is. God forbid Nintendo actually gives us anything for the the 3DS VC!
@BaffleBlend: It's for the Wii U, not the 3DS.
Nothing for me this week, not that there isn't some good stuff. Gonna be getting the physical copy of yokai watch, bout it.
@Whopper744
|sf>Metroid Zero Mission is also a fantastic game, but it's possible that we'll have to wait until next year's Metroid game before we receive the old one in the US.
It looks like the 3DS shop is still in the process of updating this morning, so I'm still hopeful that Stinger will pop up in one of the two shops. I honestly don't care which shop gets the game--I'm buying it ASAP. If it's 3DS shop, I'd even buy a copy for each machine to place next to both my copies of 3D Twinbee.
So Stinger is definitely Wii U (after the press release and official site contradicted each other). I've updated the article!
|sf>Yup. I'm glad it's up. I don't mind it being on Wii U. I'll take it any way they will give it.
Got both LE versions of Rhodea on the way from NIS Store, Yokai Watch on the way from BestBuy, and I think I'll take that Toki Tori 3D.
Gero Gero PO! Gero Gero PO!
So pumped for Yokai Watch! Picking it up tomorrow at retail.
@SafariSuz
Nice.
Reading your comment, you've sold me on Stinger. I'll pick it up as soon as I'm home from work.
Grumble*grumble YoKai grumble*grumble No European release date grumble
yo-kai for me, cant wait to play it!
Call me crazy if you wish, but I'm pretty tempted to buy the Peanuts game.
Wow a 3D Classic from someone besides Sega at 1.99 I'm buying. Usually not type of game but I'm crazy for 3D Classics
It's too bad about Stinger not being on 3DS though. I CANNOT stand what they've done to NES emulation on the Wii U (dark blurry mess). It's even more frustrating when the Wii VC is still perfect, and the 3DS is good enough (maybe a little too dark, and some pixel stretch, but still good).
Add to that the fact that SNES and GBA emulation is PERFECT on Wii U, it's really sad to see something as basic to emulate as NES looking so bad on Wii U. I will still buy it to support Stinger and maybe future release of old Konami classic still missing on VC...but I'm still really angry to not have this on 3DS instead.
@KnightRider666 @KnightRider666 Toki Tori is pretty good for 3D Classics. Closest thing to VC 3DS is going to get. Nintendo and Konami you are just stupid!
Yo-Kai Watch and Rodea is a must for me. Great week.
Weakest week in a while. To be sure, I am getting Rodea, The Sky Soldier, just in physical form as I wanted the pre-order bonus including both the Wii and Wii U versions collector's edition.
Well I guess that explains why GameStop didn't have my copy. I should learn to read better.
Siesta Fiesta is probably worth that price. I think I'll bite.
Not downloading anything but definitely buying Yo-Kai Watch. It looks like a lot of fun!
I'll get RODEA, but wow.. No WIIU VC?! What's Nintendo's problem?!
@Pablo17 I'm glad I own a Xbox One
I voted Rodea, but in all reality its oreordered on Wii U, and I'll be trying the Wii version first!
Oh... Konami. You're fashionably late to the Halloween party. I'll buy this game. As I really like Twinbee and Gradius... But um... Where was Castlevania 2 & 3 (Gameboy), all three Castlevania games on DS, and MGS: Ghost Babel? I'm still waiting on SNES Gradius 3 and GBA Gradius Galaxies... I'm just saying. Thank you for Stinger, I'll buy the other games too IF they ever drop.
EDIT: I was gonna fix the typo but its kinda funny.
The Keep is on sale! I bought this on a whim last time it was discounted to kill some time waiting for Link Between Worlds to drop. It was a pretty good dungeon crawler. Like a puzzely Doom with a creative magic system. Its a good time killer. Not game of the year by any means
Got Siesta Fiesta because why not, as for Toki Tori I already got the GBC game unless it's not the same game then I would get it.
Rodea & Yokai are out today? Sheesh, I really let these release dates sneak up on me. I can't wait for Nintendolife's Rodea review, I'm totally unsure if I want to get the WiiU or 3DS version, or, even the Wii version?
I kind of almost need Yokai?
Getting retail Yo-Kai Watch, hype!!!
That Siesta Fiesta price! I don't want to get a backlog going again, but...
When is Yo-Kai Watch out in Europe?
I'm getting Stinger because it's one of my earliest gaming memories. (The cover art is burned into my mind.) I already have Siesta Fiesta, and I'm not sold on Yo-Kai Watch yet.
Rodea is $59.99 for the physical copy.
@Barbiegurl777 $5 off? Nice.
give ne that Stella Glow!!!
Getting retail copy of Yokai watch. I might download it if it was 25.00 digital. I'm still waiting for sales on Train Driver Kyoto, I Am an Air Traffic Controller Narita and A-Train. Is it just me or are the same games going on sale every week or two?
@Flashman 2016
Nuts, no Stinger on the 3DS Eshop after all then.
@Zach777 It's really just business decisions. I'm sure if Reggie could release all the VC games he would. It takes time and money to port these titles to the VC. On top of that any third party games take a cut of the profit. I'm actually surprised we got Stinger from Konami instead of another Nintendo game. This all boils down to the Wii U selling poorly in the U.S. If it had sold more we probably would have a bigger selection like the way it was with the Wii. It's all about budgeting the profit the Wii U brings unfortunately and really it seems Reggie doing a good job cause we're still getting third party VC games.
@Captain_Gonru Serious question to a man who works in retail for a living. What do you think the realistic latest date is for a Wii U price cut in the US this year? I know they have been giving 2 days notice for NDs, but I think they could just tweet a Wii U price drop on a day's notice. Question is, what day? Has to happen before Nov 20th for Mario Tennis, and price drops usually start on Sunday's, so announce Friday the 13th - remember that ND on April Fool's Day - that the price drops on the 15th. They could actually still announce an ND on Monday the 9th for Wed the 11th for the 15th price cut.
Sorry, my logical brain just won't let it go, $299 just isn't possible. Did you see the Toys R U Big Book w/ Snoopy, Puppy Rescue and Adventure Time? I still can't believe that was approved.
I hope this has more then one save slot.
@evosteevo Its not just about vc releases. Poeple like Sautoru Shibata and even Howard Lincoln have done so much more for Nintendo. Anyone could have been at the helm during the Wii days and would have succeeded as president of NOA regardless of their previous background or how good or bad they where at their job.
@Captain_Gonru That's why that ad bothers me so much. I dont 'think anyone is buying a Wii U for those movie games. If you have a 'tween daughter and you already own a Wii U maybe you pick the games up, but for a Wii U holiday ad, where you should be selling the system, not the games, then SM3DW, Pikmin 3, SSB, that's whats in the ad. At least reverse the top and bottom lines.
Thanks for the long reply, you made me realize a price drop probably isn't coming b/c Nintendo probably can't meet demand for a sale item. Each store probably has 3-5 in stock, which may go for the holidays anyway, b/c it's the holidays and Skyaldners has DK and Bowser, but if it hit $199 there may be 12 people at each store who want to buy 1, not only 3-5 people, so there's no reason to increase demand when there isn't any product. They are just selling off what's left and introducing NX in March for Nov next year.
You know, I used to think you were a cranky guy like me, but now I think you're a good guy and Nintendo is doing you in w/ golf and autoFail. Which, I just looked on the eShop, and it still isn't there except for the 1 vid fr m E3 under Coming Soon, which has a Starfox photo on top. You can pre-order and pre-pay for Tennis now, and that comes out the week after autFail. Which I guess is good it isnt being shoved in your face, it's safe for you to go on the eShop. Where youll find Tennis is 1.4GB, XCX is 22.8GB, makes me feel like I chose the right game, size does matter, it just does. I need my voice acting and hi res graphics. If Zelda U is under 10GB I'm not getting it.
Still haven't put Resident Evil 4 Wii on Wii U in NA
You forgot to put the new Barbie pets in Wii U retail download. hahaha
Yokai watch AND Rodea?
Okay Nintendo of Europe, what do we get that'll soften the blow? Nothing? Really? Oh, you shouldn't have...
And that was the story of how we earned the best nothing ever~
@Captain_Gonru "I'm impatient"
No, we're the norm.
http://globalnews.ca/news/2320735/people-over-age-30-arent-as-happy-as-they-used-to-be-study-finds/
Rodea bombed in Japan huh? Wow, Yuji Naka just cannot seem to make a positive splash in the gaming world since Sonic first began huh? Poor guy.
Also got Toki Tori cuz why not.
@ThomasBW84 hy does anyone knows if the 1CAD sale for SMT:DS2:RB is an error ? thanks
ps: sorry if it was already mentioned.
