The latest UK multiformat charts are in for the last week and they show Detective Pikachu failing to break the multiformat top ten - in fact, it debuted as low as number 23. We really enjoyed our time with - and Nintendo Life's very own Ryan gave it an 8/10 - but it's clearly not proved a hit straight out of the blocks with UK 3DS owners.
The latest charts update also shows Kirby Star Allies - which debuted at number two last week - dropping right out of the top ten to number 11. Nintendo Switch games were still present, but they were mostly holding up the very bottom of the top ten. Here's the top ten:
1(NEW) Sea Of Thieves
2(NEW) A Way Out
3(NEW) Ni No Kunu II: Revenant Kingdom
4(NEW) Assassins' Creed Rogue Remastered
5(3) FIFA 18
6(1) Burnout Paradise Remastered
7(4) Grand Theft Auto V
8(8) EA Sports UFC 3
9(5) Mario Kart 8 Deluxe
10(6) Super Mario Odyssey
The Nintendo Switch charts also show some interesting changes with Kirby Star Allies dropping from one to three, and Attack On Titan 2 only managing to debut at number ten.
1(2) Mario Kart 8 Deluxe
2(3) Super Mario Odyssey
3(1) Kirby Star Allies
4(4) The Legend Of Zelda: Breath Of The Wild
5(5) Splatoon 2
6(6) Mario + Rabbids: Kingdom Battle
7(7) 1-2-Switch
8(14) FIFA 18
9(17) Rayman Legends: Definitive Edition
10(-) Attack On Titan 2
So there are the UK charts for this week. What's your take on the new movers and shakers? Are you surprised Kirby dropped so quickly? We want to hear your thoughts...

A shame, but haven't most people moved on to the Switch now? I know I have, the 3DS has been a bit devoid of good games for the last couple of years.
It’s all about the Mario with Nintendo
Is anyone really surprised?
I wonder what this means for the film they’re making. I’m really not sure a gruff voiced Pikachu is what people want from the character.
@EightyTwoStu The 3DS has tons of good games the last 2 years. You just aren't a big enough fan to appreciate them. I haven't even considered a Switch because my backlog of amazing 3DS games is still too long.
Even the Nintendo top 10 only has 2 new games in it. All the rest are 5 months old or more.
@EightyTwoStu Other than Metroid which ROCKED! I'm no fan of detective games or Pokemon so defo not one for me! Sure it'll sell well in the US and Japan though...
Well they said you don't really have to figure out anything as the game gives you answers itself after a short time. And i was really hoping a little sleuth work on the players behalf would be good. So sort of like ace attorney but you don't have to figure out anything and the whole thing is a massive qte no thanks!.
Considering what the top 4 titles are it was a bad week to release your game if you're not one of them.
3DS is dead by now. I love mine but please, it's time to move on.
On Switch Detective Pikachu would be a big hit, just because "switch + pokemon" on the same phrase.
Kirby was out of stock everywhere local and most places online - it’s not been available to the masses you have had to hunt it out - amazed it ever got top ten.
Amazing accomplishment
I’d say Same is for the 3ds game.
It’s no surprise the top ten for Switch is what it is anything outside that is rarely widely available.
Just confirms what I had feared/imagined...people don't want innovation, experimentation or even a minor rejigging, just more of the same on an endless loop.
Not surprising. The 3DS is nearing the end of a long, and prosperous, life cycle, so this title is the Yoshi NES for the 3DS. It looks cool, but I think 3DS owners are starting to move onto the Switch.
Luigi's Mansion, while I'd rather have it on the Switch, will be a great sunset title for it. It was Zelda: Ocarina of Time 3D that helped launch the system in 2011. Fitting a remaster is the way out for it.
This is surprising: The game actually looks pretty good, and certainly looks really nice in terms of visuals and presentation, and I would have expected Nintendo to give it a decent push too.
Edit: Oh yeah, it's a 3DS game, and as far as I can tell there's not a whole lot of people still interested in buying new games for the 3DS when the Switch is the platform many of them want to get their games for. If it were on Switch and running in HD then I think it would have done much better. Nintendo is to blame for this one imo.
Detective Pikachu would have been a hit on the Switch. Same goes for all the 3DS games that were announced on the last Direct.
I know the 3DS/2DS is still selling lots of consoles but its parents buying them for kids who'll just have one or two new ganes a year...and those will be Mario Kart, Mario platformers or proper Pokemon.
3DS is finally losing it's selling power.
Pokemon on Switch will sell MILLIONS!!!
Tens of millions probably though.
@Pazuzu666 Nonsense.
The Switch is going incredibly strong, doubles as a handheld and Detective Pikachu is just way too late to the party.
If it's proof for anything, then that the 3DS is on its way to a well deserved retirement after absolutely dominating that sector for years now.
The quick drop in Kirby sales should be ample evidence enough that "same old" is not a surefire way to sell copies to remain among the top 10, even on a killer system.
To me it seems like the 3DS has had a long and prosperous lifecycle, getting some nice games in this sunset period like Luigi’s Mansion. I really enjoyed my time with the 3DS - Luigi’s Mansion 2 a highlight - however last month was time for me to move to the switch. I’ll miss my 3DS and some of the games (I especially liked the I want to be an air traffic controller games) but look forward to new and exciting experiences on Switch. As time passes I think more people will take that natural step as releases become more scarce for 3DS.
It's a shame, but Ni No Kuni is also much better. Maybe it will get some more sales when the public knows more about the movie?
@Fuz He means the UK public because we're all terrible due to mature games and our hatred of cute things.
....wasn't that obvious?
I hope Nintendo begins to realize now that developing games for the 3DS won't make them much money anymore. Luigi's Mansion and Bowser's Inside Story probably won't fare much better.
They need to bring all their teams on the Switch and pronto!
Will be picking up a copy at Game today if they have any in, though it wouldn't surprise me if they didn't @EightyTwoStu Bit of an exaggeration there, Metroid and Fire Emblem Echoes were amazing. I want to try Radiant Historia, Hey Pikmin and Ever Oasis on 3DS too, but my backlog is too big as it is!
@EightyTwoStu - Etrian Odyssey V, would like a word.
I'll buy Detective PIkachu next month. Already bought 3 Switch games this month already. Unless it will sell out next month (I can see it being rare as a late 3DS game).
Really not surprised in the slightest.
it'll be on the Switch this fall.
it's hard to buy 3ds games knowing a better version is coming out.
fun game, i'm happy i bought it
Parents bought this game for their little kids, they start the game and heard cute Pikachu's voice... burst out crying said it gave them nightmare. Parents returned the game.
Kirby...
@Fuz that's why I blocked anti. I couldn't take all his bigotry and religious zealotry and could see he'd never change his views on the Western world and freedom of choice.
Whether the game is good or not, it should never have been made for the 3DS this late in the game. What a waste of resources and a waste of a game that could've potentially been enjoyed by far more people than the holdouts that still buy 3DS games.
Buying a physical copy of AOT2 for the Switch became chore for reasons unknown..
But after going to 2 Toys r us, a Walmart and 2 Targets I finally got one. I guess Gamestop would have been a safe bet but I didn't feel like going there and having the kid sell me an open copy and tell me "it's new." Which is bs. No it's not new if the wrapper is gone.
I had no interest in the Pikachu game, still too bad. I still need to get Kirby, probably sometime next month. Monster Hunter World is off the list, and of course GTAV never leaves.
bet it would have sold gangbusters on the switch
I'm surprised it did that well. Niche game with no real advertising on a platform most have moved on from.
If Nintendo wanted good sales of Detective Pikachu, they would have put it on the Switch.
@Anti-Matter Everyone is born with that feeling (it's why small children like cute things while avoiding scary ones, it's part of a child's survival instinct), it's just that most people find mature themes enticing as well as they grow Unless you're referring to some specific brain development thing, like autism or something similar. Not trying to be rude.
"Having a chip on one's shoulder" means to have a grudge against something. It refers to some very old custom street thugs used to have: carrying a chip of wood on their shoulder and daring people to knock it just to have a reason to start a fight. You can see it in some old Tom & Jerry cartoons. It's one of those odd English idioms and I found it confusing at first as well (English is not my first language).
Anyone surprised by this? Why the game wasn't put on Switch is beyond me. Same with Ultra Sun & Moon.
@shonenjump86 MH:W is still in the top 25. This site doesn't go as far in depth as other Nintendo sites I follow. And yeah... GTAO... I mean GTA5 like clockwork 🤷♂️
To be honest i belive the UK has pretty bad taste in gaming, overall.
I mean, FIFA 18, UFC by EA AND GTAV still in top 10? Come on, lame games...
@Gentiana Definitely. Shame, because it's a fun little spinoff
@XCWarrior Lol, I've been Nintendo since '87. I've owned a 3DS since launch, but since the Wii U was in decline and Switch was on the horizon, it was easy to see Nintendo was pulling resources internally to develop for that rather than the dial-it-in games released. I do get however that there has been some good games, just not consistently like the previous five years of it's lifespan.
But what do I know, not being a fan... ; )
@QwertyQwerty I certainly hope not! I can't stand mobile gaming other than the odd bus journey finger games. Nothing beats traditional controls.
@DrJoson Just my two cents, sir. That's two games in two years, not like the monthly (or so) hits on Switch or the earlier years of the 3DS.
Wow? People in the UK seriously bought Burnout Paradise? That is a 10 year old game anyone can get at 10 dollars on Amazon. And they buy it over Kirby, which actually is NEW.
People in the UK are so stupid, at least Kirby and Detective Pikachu are new games. I hate remasters so much. Such Laziness. Burnout Paradise's popularity will only just mean more remasters and less new games.
Oh, well. I guess Nintendo will have to recoup their losses with a Switch port.
Quit breaking my heart with that header image, haha. I'll be picking the game up (in the US) next week.
@Gamegrumps303 It's a new remaster or Burnout Paradise. And I don't think there's that much overlap between Burnout-style racing fans and Kirby fans. I could be wrong though ;D
No surprise. This looks weird enough to begin with. If I did want to play it, though, it certainly wouldn't be on the 240p portable.
.Impressed with Ni no Kuni 2's numbers! Cool to see another anime game performing that well.
Reports that Detective Pikachu refuses to give up his badge and gun are as of yet unconfirmed; so he is considered both armed and extremely dangerous.
To be serious for a moment, I'm not at all surprised two fairly niche games (A graphic adventure and anime tie-in Musou) failed to set the world on fire. I have and am really enjoying both games, but I don't think it's unfair to say they're not everybody's cup of tea, and I'm sure Nintendo and Koei Tecmo are taking that into account.
I know it was a way to fill a large gap between games being released on the 3DS, but still, they waited on Wii U games due to the Switch coming out, maybe this should have been one to wait on too and rework for the Switch. Plus, who is going to carry that big pikachu amiibo with them? Anyways, I can see a re-release or remaster come over to the Switch eventually, especially since the Switch is selling like hot cakes at the moment...but, knowing nintendo, they'd rather bring Animal Crossing Amiibo Festival over to the Switch first!!!!!
Hahahahahahaha!!! I think is time Nintendo drops 3DS support. Heck I'm cancelling the games I have pre-order.
I got Attack on Titan and I love it.
@Anti-Matter You could have stopped that wall of text at "mild Asperger's syndrome", it's a pretty well known condition and it was something I suspected you were suffering from for a while. You betray a lot of the symptoms in your posts.
@Einherjar I don't know I'd agree with any of that, but each his own.
Aren't 3DS game sales generally slowing down? It's to be expected as its an old machine. Hardware sales remain very strong but they will be driven largely by the back catalogue. It's also why Nintendo, who are right to keep supporting it, seem to plan on doing so through a stream of remakes and ports. Low budget while still having a chance of selling to a young userbase that didn't experience those games the first time around.
@Gamegrumps303
Why would anybody who wanted to buy a racing game on PS4 (where it is definitely not available for 10 dollars) or XB1 change their mind and buy a 2D platformer on the Switch just because it's new? Now that would be stupid. But then it's a stupid comparison.
@Anti-Matter Hypocrite. For someone who hates "evil" and mature themes, you talk waaay too much about thinking about killing real people, and those people most likelt aren't even evil outside of their acting roles. Have you ever thought that the one with evil thoughts was actually you, and not everyone else? Your mindset is similar to that of a domestic terrorist.
If you just go around condemning, hating, and making threats against others you don't even personally know, that makes you the "evil" one, because you're letting yourself have those thoughts in the first place. If you met yourself and judged yourself under your own criteria, you'd probably also want to condemn yourself as well.
Not a big week overall btw, though there are caveats to that
https://www.gamesindustry.biz/articles/2018-03-26-sea-of-thieves-sails-to-no-1-in-uk-charts
Kirby is still doing much better than prior entries. Most entries debuted much lower than it did and dropped much lower in later weeks, so all in all, I'd say the game is doing well. For instance, Kirby: Planet Robobot started at #15 in it's first week, and then dropped to #36 in it's second week. Star Allies is faring much better, although it'll drop down pretty soon.
Shame about Detective Pikachu but a lack of proper marketing, childish gameplay and 3DS release doomed it from the start. Sea of Thieves being at #1 doesn't surprise me. Although, I wonder what people think about it - I hear it isn't too good.
So, sea of thieves No 1? For real?
And Ni no kuni 2, a great game, at 3?
Uk ppl have really bad taste in games
And don't let me start about Assasin's creed rogue at 4. Seriously ? A remaster of a mediocre game at 4?
@EightyTwoStu Well, 5 games, but you're right of course that there's been relatively fewer the last couple years. As much as I love my 3DS though I hope Nintendo doesn't release any more exclusives for it, we all know this game would have done better on the Switch
@DrJoson I've got a feeling (well, hope?) that with the now filming Det. Pikachu movie that we will now see more of him. I mean, this game was from 2016 in Japan and now only gets a release, maybe as filler, or as a set up and tie in for the film
I'm really intrigued to see what the Pokemon Switch RPG will be like...
@KCMOTO I see, thanks for the info.
well for a system thats in its golden years it isnt too bad.
I didn't have much faith in Detective Pikachu, since the 3DS umm 2DS is being focused in America at least as a budget kid system for parents to buy for their 7 & 8 year old children.
Detective game + the young audience of the 2DS is not a good mix.
Most adult Nintendo fans I know have moved onto the Switch.
I've said it once and I'll say it again, I'm not sure why Nintendo bothers with the UK market. It seems like a massive waste of time, like Microsoft and the Japan situation. Just cut your losses Nintendo...
@Syrek24 after that I had to un-ignore this clown. So he really has some kind of mental illness?
That explains everything!
UK is passing on Detective Pikachu but buying up 1-2 Switch? Bet those buyers will be on DP next week.
Not surprised about Kirby dropping so fast. The reviews were mostly negative or so-so. Kirby fans bought but the rest don't want to pay $60 for a so-so game. I bought it and like it, but like everyone else, it is too easy.
I know this being on 3ds probably didn't help sales, but guys make sure to pick this up! It's well worth the asking cost, trust me
@Link41
It's a weak market for them, sure, but it's not nearly as bad as Microsoft in Japan. For Microsoft, it's quite remarkable that they've kept going despite only selling a few hundred consoles every week, so certainly Nintendo's situation in the UK market isn't that bad to call it quits.
Come on guys...most of the comments are a rhapsody of hate for the 3DS. What did you expect, that everyone runs like crazy to buy the Detective Pikachu game?? Of course not!!! The 3DS has a library full of amazing games, the variety is big, it's not like the Switch, which has only a few good games and everyone runs to buy those. Detective Pikachu will sell well. But it will take some time for the number of sold copies to increase. It's that simple. And Nintendo knows that fact.
That's nice
@Link41 @MoonKnight7
There is a huge difference between Nintendo in the UK and Microsoft in Japan; people need to stop conflating the two situations because they aren't even remotely similar.
Nintendo has sold ~750,000 Switches in the UK, which is quite good, just not "record-breaking" good. Titles like Mario Kart 8 DX, Mario Odyssey, Zelda BOTW, Splatoon 2, 1-2 Switch and Mario + Rabbids continue to chart despite being months old. Even a niche game like Kirby has seen record-breaking sales in the UK on the Switch.
Meanwhile, the Xbox One has yet to sell 100,000 units in Japan, with its best selling game (FFXV) having yet to reach 10,000 copies sold.
Seing Pikachu crying breaks my heart . Makes me want to buy this baka game even if i don't live in UK
Is anyone surprised that Detective Pikachu didn't sell well? It received little to no promotion outside of a mention at the last Nintendo Direct. At least a giant Pikachu amiibo was released alongside to commemorate its release, but I'd hardly call that "promotion."
At this point, the 3DS is selling off of the ridiculously cheap price of the 2DS. Bundled games and mainline Pokemon entries are the only games that will rake in decent sales.
Xbox has done a great marketing effort with Sea of Thieves. It has sold well, even when its free in Game Pass. I hope the game can improve in those areas that is lacking.
It's a small shame. There was quite a bit of excitement about the game when the first installment released in Japan in Feb 2016.
Sadly, waiting two years to release the full game globally on a device even further into its twilight years doesn't seem to have been the best way to capitalise on that initial burst of interest.
I'd like to download the rest of the game eventually though. The first installment was unique and charming, if mechanically quite basic.
a years-old Japanese game that is on a system on its last legs. I'm not surprised (I like it myself)
...Man, I really need to get back into the gaming loop outside of Nintendo. I had no idea that a remaster of AC: Rogue was out.
I'm surprised Sea of Thieves is at 1 but I guess that's what happens when you don't release any big 1st party games on a console for 6 months (XB1's last big 1st party game was Forza 7 in September).
I'm really enjoying Detective Pikachu, even though it isn't exactly challenging, and still managing to also play Rabbids on the Switch.
I have a backlog of great 3DS games; not ready to put it down quite yet.
It’s amazing that GTA V a 4 year old game is still staying in the Top 10 incredible.
@Kimyonaakuma The US public is almost as averse to cute things, sadly...
@arpaktiko Lol - think I agree with ya. Besides. Detective Pikachu will do better on other charts. I wonder how big the UK sales numbers actually are anyway?
@westman98 I thought it'd do well everywhere. This game is technically the first Pokemon game I've ever bought...and I've been gaming since the 90s. I couldn't resist it - figured IF THEY GOT ME to buy it, most would. So far I love it.
@Dang69
Detective Pikachu being your first Pokemon game would put you in the tiniest of minorities.
I bought a Switch and Mario Rabbids Kingdom Battle on Sunday from GAME, £299.99, the guy told me it's still selling great and there was plenty of people browsing the Nintendo section and generally talking about Switch. Downloaded DOOM when I got home and I'll be downloading Celeste next.
@Anti-Matter Dude... watch your language.
And let's not talk about killing real life people, shall we?
Sea of Thieves and A Way Out sold 23,000 and 14,000 copies respectively. Slow numbers in general.
@Fuz Not sure how old your daughter is, but my 6 year old son LOVES the game. Would definitely recommend for smalls.
@BulkSlash Honestly, I think we're going to see a Switch port next year in time for the movie. By the time the film comes out, I think most people will have forgotten about the 3DS version plus I'm sure the film makers would like Nintendo to help promote the movie as best they can...
I would have bought it on the Switch but do not want to push through the low rez 3DS screen anymore. Return of Samus was my last buy for the console.
I suspect the drop in Kirby sales can be attributed to the fact that a lot of places have been out of stock since the launch weekend.
@EightyTwoStu Makes sense, I'd be up for more Detective Pikachu games. It will be cool to see how much they try to push the Switch with that game, haven't gotten around to finishing Ultra Sun yet though so I don't mind if it doesn't arrive this year
well I'm still getting it - looks like fun.
land back home tonight - can't wait to fire up ninokuni 2!! 😄 hope it has some legs on the charts!
great to see RARE back on top of the charts!
Feel sorry for Pikachu, do intend to get the game at some point as it looks really nice.
@TheGameTutor well, go ahead and buy it!! It's 3DS at it's best. Don't suppress yourself. Enjoy the game on your 3ds while you wait for the big switch games to arrive. This is what a wise gamer would do.
Honestly, quit the 3DS and aim for Switch releases. I sold my 3DS long ago, and probably wouldn't have gotten this release for it even if I had one.
@electrolite77
The problem though is Burnout Paradise is lazy and the success of the laziness will just recourage more Remasters rather than new games.
Why buy this game when you can get it for cheap on Ps3 or Steam? Time and money was spent on Burnout Paradise that could have been put into making a new game.
I am almost done with Kirby already and while I like it, it hasn't been anything more than a solid platformed. Once I finish it I doubt I'll be revisiting it any time soon.
And Detective Pikachu doesn't surprise me at all, a spin-off game on an outdated system, even a massive Pokemon buff like me wasn't that interested.
Kirby will do ok in the UK. It might reach 100k lifetime sales there.
@Syrek24 @Tarvaax Lay off of him. As I understand his condition causes him to experience fiction more strongly than most people and it's harder for him to tell it from reality, which is why he loves cute and cuddly games and hates horror and mature themes. You'd also be wary of Outlast if you believed the monster were more real than they are.
As for wishing death upon people or having an unwarranted sense of authority (like "banning" games for mature themes), that's also part of his condition and could also be part of living in a country with a very conservative, religious culture.
Yes, harboring thoughts of ill intent upon another is evil... But every human has those and taking control of your darker side is what makes us good people. Religious people call that Satan's temptation, psychologists call it "Id" or "shadow aspect". And it has good uses as it allows us to be more competitive and to stand up for ourselves or others.
@hadlee73 The new 2DS XL is the TOP value for money choice right now.
@FinalFrog I think you're projecting a little. Especially with "people wishing 3DS to fail"... How can a product already this successful fail? It's just past its prime, that's all.
Your comparison to candy is not applicable, as one candy bar does not make another obsolete through superior technology and generally candy bars don't need that much support post launch, they just need to be produced.
A more apt comparison would be being surprised that parts and accessories for Renault Clio II are not selling as well as those for Renault Clio IV. I still drive a Clio II, it works pretty well, but I won't begrudge people who prefer newer cars.
@SmaggTheSmug It's not like that. It's like Renault Clio and Renault Megane. A Reanult Clio IV is the successor to the Renault Clio II. But the Switch is clearly NOT the 3DS successor. The Snickers example is totally right.
I'm absolutely smitten by Detective Pikachu, but even I admit I really wish it was a Switch game. It suffers from some slowdown and the graphics, while very impressive for 3DS, are jaggy as ever. I actually would not be surprised if within a year they port it over to Switch with added cases, clean graphics and a performance bump.
Even the touchscreen controls for the case files aren't that responsive and I find it a bit easier to just use the buttons, which also isn't perfect but it beats kicking out the stylus from the bottom of my N3DS every time. I can attest though that my other game I wanted this month, A Way Out, is doing very well, being unable to find a PS4 copy around my local stores.
@AshFoxX Not true. On my 2DS XL it's so good that it feels like a Switch game.
@NintendoDimi The core of the argument is the same: no one is wishing Clio II to fail now in favor of a new Megane, because Clio II already was successful enough in its prime. Same for 3DS and Detective Pikachu sales: it's not malice or ill intent. Most people simply moved on from 3DS to Switch or are happy with the games released previously; thus they have little interest in Detective Pikachu. Same thing happened to GameBoy Advance games when DS came out.
@SmaggTheSmug Not true. If you check the UK 3DS software sales, week ending 24/3, you will see that Detective Pikachu is number one. So the interest is definitely there. It just sells slower on the 3DS because there are so many great games out there and the potential buyers are not in a hurry to buy that one right now. If Det.Pikachu was on the Switch it would sell much faster beacuse, let's face it...how many good games does the Switch have worth buying right now?? Just a handful and a ton of digital indies, most of them being mediocre. Most of the people you mention own both consoles and play the best games of each one, which is totally ok. But there are also those who sold their 3DS, got a Switch and hate the fact that the 3DS still gets support. And that's ill intent and malice. The whole point is that the 3DS is a great little system, which will be phased out when Nintendo thinks that the time has come for it to ''retire'' and not because of the wishful thinking of some Switch fanboys.
@NintendoDimi Hating the system you used and then sold is an odd stance... Though I'm kinda new to this whole "console gaming" thing being an exclusively PC player up until last year. Maybe it's more common than I think. But wouldn't people selling off their DS to get a Switch explain why new DS games are selling slower?
Also "Switch fanboys"? Aren't you a bit resentful towards the new console yourself? To me it seems a bit like you're projecting your own grudge.
I have a Switch, my brother bought himself a New 2DS. I will not play Pokemon games and he won't play Breath of the Wild, but we don't bicker with each other over this. The only bad thing about it is that it's apparently impossible to add him as a friend on Switch unless either I buy a 2DS or he gets a Switch.
Kinda funny that with the Switch Nintendo wanted to bring their portable and home console audiences together but it seems to generate salt from both 3DS and Wii U owners, even though the former did enjoy a considerable success as well.
@SmaggTheSmug I said ''SOME Switch fanboys''. Don't change the meaning of what i said. I am not resentful at all, i love the Switch, but we can not deny the fact that the comments of SOME Switch users show arrogance and fanboyism and that's only because they bought the new thing. The fact that you can't add your brother as a friend and vice versa is an entirely different subject, irrelevant to what is being discussed here. As for the WiiU, it has never enjoyed any considerable success, whereas the 3DS family of systems still sells considerably well, although the numbers dropped because of the Switch. As i said above,in my opinion, the 3DS will be phased out when Nintendo thinks that the time has come for it to ''retire''.
Ouch, that's not a good start.
Also, I still dunno why you count the list position of fifa 4 for all systems as for switch.
Huh, Anti-Matter sounds like a psycho. Who would've thunk it.
Oooooh, everyone? Derp.
Cya
Raziel-chan
@Link41 Because the UK is the second biggest gaming market in Europe. We just know the game is in 23rd space, but we've no idea how many sales that actually is. Nintendo will still be making a profit. Even a small profit is a profit, and reason enough to continue selling in the UK.
@Gamegrumps303
What if you don't have a PS3 or Steam? What if you've not played it before? What if you were too young to play it 8 years ago? What if the people.you want to play online with are on PS4?
It's not a game I personally care about but I'm not going to judge those that do. It's their money.
@RainbowGazelle Excactly!! 23rd is for all console software sales. In the 3DS software charts it's no.1!!!
This shouldn't come as a surprise. The 3DS is well past it's prime by now and Detective Pikachu isn't the kind of game that would appeal to most Pokemon fans. It is a far more niche game, one that is more strictly made for kids.
I wouldn't expect any 3DS games to break the top 10 anymore though, it is like expecting SNES games to still be top sellers a year after the N64 came out.
@westman98 It's sooooo charming that I thought the fact it pulled me in might mean something significant. Technically GO! is my first, but I thought I'd catch heat for that. Excited for the Switch release so I can finally dive in.
It's been hard to find concrete numbers in the UK, but in Spain, Kirby Star Allies' retail launch sales were nearly 85% higher than Kirby Planet Robobot's retail launch sales. If a similar trend applies to other European territories, including the UK, then Star Allies could become the best selling Kirby game in Europe in just a few months.
@FinalFrog There is a difference to defend something you like and HATE like a mental patient something you do not.
You have the right to defend your ideas and stuff but you CAN'T tell others they should NOT like something, in this case more mature games. See the difference? One thing is to want peaceful games but it is another thing to want to REMOVE all mature games.
In my view people like that are dangerous. You never know when a person with such anger management issues will snap and go on a killing spree.
Let's not glorify defects ok?
Even admin had to step in and say "This is not ok ..."
@FinalFrog I am still searching for DS games but unfortunately there are only used units and used games. I don't see Nintendo Life covering DS stuff since most of it is discontinued
One of the hardest things to find on the DS is Fighting Fantasy Warlock of Firetop mountain.
@FinalFrog I could not agree more. Detective Pikachu is no.4 in the japanese charts, sold 42.000 at launch. All in all, the 3DS has stll great potential.
@NintendoDimi
The 3DS is much, much stronger in Japan than in the UK.
Looking at the chart positions, Detective Pikachu has maybe sold around ~2,000 copies at launch in the UK, and I'm being very optimistic.
@westman98 Well, it's only the beginning. Let's wait and see how things shape up...
@NintendoDimi
I would be quite surprised if Detective Pikachu actually had legs, as most 3DS games in general don't. Expect it to fall out of the Top 40 weekly best-sellers in 2 weeks or so.
Nintendo would be smart to re-release the game on Switch alongside the film. That would have some selling potential, assuming the movie itself isn't a complete disaster.
Looks like I was completely wrong about Detective Pikachu...
Sales rose a whopping 76% during its 2nd week over its first week, which is unprecedented. The Easter holiday probably helped quite a bit.
