Re: The Pokémon Company Outlines Fixes For Scarlet & Violet's Next Update

FIlbert

Please hire Bandi Namco (New Pokémon Snap) or Monolith Soft (Xenoblade, Zelda TOTK/BOTW, Splatoon, every other Nintendo IP) to just make the next Pokemon game.

Game Freak has continually expressed they want to make new IPs again and again. Perhaps this is time they relief of themselves from making future mainline Pokemon games and just share in 1/3 of the revenue to make their next Pocket Tiny Town Jockey Hero.

It’s a win-win.

ILCA can move onto remakes of Mystery Dungeons. They are chibi style already. 😉

Re: Hideki Kamiya Reveals Why He Left PlatinumGames

FIlbert

I don’t understand the critique of Kamiya’s “ego”.

Kojima and him, whether you like or dislike them, their work are relevant and important to an industry driven by profit and Fortnite wannabes. Their work, whether financially or critically successful, pushes the industry forward. Their “failures” are often times their best work.

Kamiya isn’t being a narcissist. He knows of his place in the industry. Sure he may fall. But at this point, I am certain there ARE developers who look up to him or at least respect his approach and attitude to want to work with him. He pointing this out only shows his awareness of how this decision to leave Platinum is not decided easily. He knows it will affect others. Who knows? Those developers who wanted to work with him may join him onward.

There is always an element of “ego” or more rightly, confidence when it comes to auteurs like him and Kojima. It may not be the self-deprecating modest role model or whatever attitude we “expect” them to be.

It takes guts and a little bit of confidence and belief in yourself to leave a company driven by profit and chart your own creative course.

I wish him the best. “Failures” are not always what they seem. He is, at least, living his life according to his own values.

Re: E3 Has Been Cancelled, Permanently

FIlbert

Despite what we think, E3 was first and foremost an industry event where developers and publishers can mingle and pitch games. I do hope there are better ways for them to connect now at other events and such.

As for summer game fest and the game awards, while great, these events cannot last forever as they are reliant on one person. Until it is run by an organization with industry membership (ironically like E3), they will never be legitimate replacement for an actual industry event.

As it is right now, there are visible favoritism if you are friends of the host, commending valuable advertising time segments with nothing much to show just to build hype.

A true industry event should allot time in a fair manner as much as possible.

Re: The First Review For Dragon Quest Monsters: The Dark Prince Is In

FIlbert

@Nidorom Ha! I was scanning the comments until I saw yours about the game being like SMT/Persona/Digimon. That’s half the fun, fusing monsters/demons etc. 😂😂😂 That’s a thumbs up from me for now. I will have to check out other reviews before purchase. I find DQ games a hit and miss with me. The mainline and Builders game were fantastic… but the spin offs are a bit lacklustre.

Re: The Game Awards GOTY For 2023 Is Baldur's Gate 3

FIlbert

@luckyseven Definitely, XBC2 has gotten a lot of “hate” for its more anime style. It baffles me sometime as Final Fantasy isn’t that far in terms of troops and style either. I guess 4K graphics helps. 😂😂

I haven’t had the chance to play BG3, but it definitely sounds like a good fantasy game if it does live up to the hype and all its endings. It’s definitely on my “to play” list haha.

Re: The Game Awards GOTY For 2023 Is Baldur's Gate 3

FIlbert

@luckyseven Haha there were legit game industry reviewers from other publications and websites who said they hadn’t and/or wouldn’t play XBC3 because it was “too long” or “too complicated”.

BD3 is an excellent game for the pre-dominately western focused, gaming industry and audience. It’s a classic western role playing game that’s been updated for the current era. It’s relatable. Especially now that Stranger Things has normalized D&D for the masses, it’s cool now to play it 😉. Glad that the game finally got the upgrade it need to be part of the 21st century.

Re: Is Dave The Diver An Indie Game? The Game Awards' Host Weighs In

FIlbert

Dave the Diver is a great game, but not an indie game.

Considering the amount of developers that worked on it (you get to see all their names roll…and roll…on forever when you finish the main story). I definitely wouldn’t call it an indie with that much $$ to hire that many people on a project.

Sure, it has the charm of a “retro pixel” indie, but that doesn’t make it indie.

Indie games are games developed by a relatively “small” studio to one person without the influence or interference of any existing industry players.

Dave the Diver definitely has at least one of those.

Re: The New Sims Game Is Using Animal Crossing's Multiplayer As A Source Of Inspiration

FIlbert

Given how Nintendo cheated out on ACNH support, I hope all these new indie cozy/farming games, and the likes of the Sims will pressure them to refocus on Animal Crossing.

Pressuring the developer team of AC and Splatoon to drop support for AC quickly, and focus on Splatoon 3 was not a good idea. Splatoon 3, while welcomed, is not needed. 2 was already great for the Switch.

The state of Splatoon 3 is rather sad, there are less players playing at any one time. I hardly get matched in a game in X mode when they were abundant in Splatoon 2. There definitely are less active players.

Re: Bandai Namco Announces New Dev Studio For Commissioned Projects

FIlbert

Given Xenoblade 2 and 3, a remake or remaster of Xenosaga has a 90-95% chance of coming. It is possibly crucial for the future of Xenoblade.

I really wish it would be a remaster, they already have the updated models for Kosmos and Telos from X2. I didn’t play the original but the original graphics always remind me of Bratz dolls with their disproportionate heads. 😂

Re: Zelda: Tears Of The Kingdom Wins Nintendo GOTY At Golden Joystick Awards 2023

FIlbert

While undoubtedly BG3 pushes the traditional D&D rpg and gameplay scope, we cannot ignore the fact that TOTK has one of the most innovative and COMPLETE crafting systems with Ultrahand and the Zonai devices.

Both games pushes video games in new directions. BG3 shows how traditional RPG gameplay can be updated for today’a market. TOTK, genre blends a whole crafting game into traditional open world adventure games.

Neither are small feats, but for me personally, in the grand scheme of things, TOTK is the GOTY because it is more creative and innovative in gameplay, while BG3 is more of an evolution of traditional RPGs.

Re: Review: Fashion Dreamer - Some Decent Dress-Up, But Lacks Style Savvy's Depth

FIlbert

I haven’t played the other games but I am enjoying this game a lot. It isn’t for everyone for sure. If you aren’t into creative designs and outfits, unlocking new patterns to expand your options, and to create your own brand, this isn’t for you. There is less hand holding and more creativity. It’s all about creating your own style and helping others.

I don’t understand the wonky economy comment. Yes, you can earn a lot of e-points through online play. Yet, I have a nagging feeling the reviewer didn’t play long enough to realize how expensive it is to make one design for higher level clothing patterns.

I am at level 60 and I believe there is 100. I can earn close to a million e-points with a new design and creative outfits for NPCs and other players. HOWEVER, it costs over 200,000 e-points to make a shirt or a blouse at higher levels. I am actually running out of e-points!!

If you want your own designs, this will cost you. Sure, you can get already made designs from others, but that doesn’t necessarily mean you will get what you want…and frankly, relying on other people’s designs alone will definitely hold you back from progressing. You have no idea how many versions of the same pair of shoes I have but just not that one color or pattern I needed to fulfill a character’s outfit criteria.

The reviewer left out a very important point, the trend of each area, how complete you style an outfit request and what level of clothing you style someone with affect how many coins you get for the gotcha game (where you get special clothing items not found elsewhere) or items for your photos.

Futher, as you play, you do recognize brands and players that fit your own style. You do want to follow them to see and get their new designs or new inspirations and vice versa.

This is a game for wannabe fashion designers who want their fashion house. 😉

Re: Pokémon Bank Users Encouraged To Transfer Pokémon To Pokémon Home ASAP

FIlbert

Pokémon Home is a money grab subscription. TPC purposely limited the Pokémon dex in games so that we NEED Home to store the unused one somewhere as we can’t just store them in a game anymore and transfer them over.

There is no reason why they can’t have the whole dex in a game in this age. Need time to balance the game? Or more people to make the models etc? All these are excuses for the world’s largest media company.

If we can fly to the moon 2000 digital creatures in a game is nothing.

Re: Talking Point: Which Classic Cartoons Deserve The Shredder's Revenge Treatment?

FIlbert

I would love any of the above cartoons to be made into a pixel gaming masterpiece. But I must offer the following cartoons up for consideration as I feel like they are being ignored 😭😉

  • Spy vs Spy
  • She-ra… (how can you remember her brother and forget her?)
  • Robocop
  • JEM
  • Dinoriders
  • Captain Planet
  • My Little Pony (for all the Bromies)
  • C.O.P.S.
  • The Care Bears
  • Rainbow Brite
  • Denver, the Last Dinosaur
  • Totoro (imagine the sales alone, it will be astronomical for the brand alone)
  • Akira
  • Evangelion
  • Muppet Babies 👶

Re: Pokémon GO's Pokédex Is Now Bigger Than Any Mainline Entry

FIlbert

@Axecon I totally agree. I was just thinking the other day which Mega Pokémon are left in the Go game to come out, and realized TPC never made any more new megas and how essential to Go megas are despite megas came from X and Y.

I have long believed the mainline Pokémon games do not contain the whole Pokédex is to force players to subscribe to Pokémon Home. A subscription based revenue stream for TPC.

The argument of ever more over complex battle mechanics with the more Pokémon’s there are is muted with Pokémon Go. Sure it is a simpler version, nonetheless it has most of the battle mechanics with different moves and damage etc., and it is doing fine.

And don’t forget, each Pokémon in Go has their own animations…mostly identical from the mainline games. Each Pokémon’s animation already exists, even their 3D models, and yet…. TPC and Game Freak keeps giving us subpar mainline games in every way….

Re: Nintendo Announces Two New Animal Crossing: New Horizons-Themed Switch Lites, Out October

FIlbert

@Duncanballs Actually, I think your date range was right. Pink was the boy’s color around 1800. I was just pointing out it wasn’t till 1950’s pink became a girl’s color in the States…and soon took it over from boys.

I share you sentiments well. It amuses me when men and women insists women are the ones to dress “pretty” only and men did not care about appearances or less of it. Or that women are the only one who can wear bolder colors. If this was Elizabethan England, men would have been expected to and would be better and more colorfully dressed than women and no one would bat an eye or care about it.

And for those who says it’s not “natural” for men to dress pretty or in bold colors, just look at the animal kingdom. Male peacocks are the best example. They are the one with the stunning tail feathers. Female peacocks pale in comparison, all various shades of neutral tones. And this list of animals go on and on. I don’t see anything more natural than that. 😂

Re: Nintendo Announces Two New Animal Crossing: New Horizons-Themed Switch Lites, Out October

FIlbert

@Rambler Technically that’s “teal” or “turquoise”. It isn’t a “boy’s” color as much as a “girl’s” color. It is what Tiffany, a jewelry store uses for all their boxes….so tell me if that is a girl or boy thing then 😉. And that color has been rather popular amongst “comfy” home decor for the past decade.

As for the “pink”, it’s more salmon or peachy. Not your traditional Barbie pink. 😅

Re: Pokémon Company's COO Addresses Issue Between Release Schedule And Game Quality

FIlbert

The bottleneck here is Game Freak.

As one third of the Pokémon Company, they have been reluctant to give up game development powers over to more competent developers. Prime example is New Pokémon Snap (Bandai Namco) vs Pokémon Scarlet/Violet (Game Freak).

Eventually, when they did release the stronghold on mainline Pokémon game development for Pokemon Brilliant Diamond/Shining Pearl, they picked ILCA (Pokémon Home developer). And look how that ended up. We lost a Pokémon generation of remake to some half-baked attempt. Piplup will be forever sad.

Something needs to be done with GF. They either need to beef up their production or learn to work with other developers.

Re: Xenoblade Chronicles 3 Character Designer Celebrates 1st Anniversary With Special Artwork

FIlbert

@HeadPirate Where are you getting your info? 🧐😳🤔🤪

Monolith is a huge studio and just keeps on hiring. They have specific teams that helps out Nintendo on Zelda, Splatoon etc, but they aren’t the same teams that oversees Xenoblade. Takahashi will never just “leave” Xenoblade. If anything, Future Redeemed just made it ever more important for him and the main creative team to be working on Xenoblade 4, or whatever it’s going to be called.

Vector industries, Dmitri Yuriev, that blue comet flying to earth…..

It’s very likely the series just got way bigger. This is like an OPUS for Takahishi and his wife. Xenogears, saga, blade. etc. it’s coming full circle.

I just hope Square Enix doesn’t do a Xenogears remake without Takahashi.

Re: Miyamoto Considers Pikmin To Be Nintendo's "Most Global Characters"

FIlbert

@-wc- @Cotillion @Crono1973
I am by no means dismissing Miyamoto’s contributions to the gaming industry. As some of you mentioned, I am just not quite sure if he know what makes a game a great game sometime as well.

He was against any plot for Mario for so long, that he basically kneecapped the Paper Mario series. With the Mario movie, he recon the whole Kong Country into a diesel fuelled metropolis.

Miyamoto is a great game designer. He is amazing at level designs. But as video games evolve as an entertainment and medium, I am not quite sure I would give him the best award for “story”, “art directions” or “character designs”. 😄

Re: Miyamoto Considers Pikmin To Be Nintendo's "Most Global Characters"

FIlbert

I have always been a bit weary of Miyamoto and his love of self-advertising. Yes, he created some memorable video game characters and franchises. But pikmins are not them. There are plenty great new Nintendo (non-Miyamoto) characters from the last decade but he rarely acknowledges them.

Frankly, some can even argue Mario is as popular today not because the quality of the character but the lack of options and competition during the earlier years of gaming, I wonder if Mario would even be a big deal if it was launched today.

Re: Zelda: Tears Of The Kingdom's New Update Targets Item Duplication Glitches, Unsurprisingly

FIlbert

@Coalescence Duplication glitches as they are now are NOT game breaking bugs. One need to be very lucky to even perform one normally as they are so obscured and irregular that majority of players will never encounter them to use them and break the game. These bugs are non bugs. The Zelda team could use their time to help the folks at Pokémon. That would be time better spent.
