Re: Factorio - Nintendo Switch 2 Edition Announced, Free Upgrade For Existing Owners

Drachma

@Joeynator3000
I'm not sure you know what you're talking about, so here are a few facts:

The game was offered at a low price during Early Access and is no longer discounted because the developers don't want to undermine the Early Access model. Early buyers should be rewarded with the lower price — otherwise sales would quickly drop below the Early Access price and the model would break.
There has been no price increase since release, and they have delivered extensive content updates for years that continuously improved and expanded the game. From my perspective, that justifies a price increase, especially after so many years and a lot of free content.
They released exactly one DLC, which is pricey, but it hardly fits the label "DLC" — it's a full expansion that essentially turns the game into Factorio 2, more than doubling the amount of content.

This game is one of the best on the market and the quality is incredible, especially from a software development perspective. I've followed their blog posts, where they weekly described their development for years, sometimes including code examples and explanations of systemic development concepts. I love this game and the developers behind it and can't understand the criticism at all.

@Debo626
Please don't get bogged down with trivialities and nitpicking over word meanings. You know exactly what is meant, and 'phobia' refers not only to fear but also explicitly to hostility. So spare me the lamenting and accept that it is a misanthropic attitude. In this case, it has nothing to do with the general 'problem' in Hollywood and the whatever-washing from Netflix. What you are doing is distracting.

Edit: And btw, do you know where your used phrase before "each their own" comes from? I'm german. I know.

And the most ridiculous argument is that a diverse cast (in this case, just one person) is not family-friendly. Why? Do the children even notice? And if they do, what happens then? I think you are afraid. How else can this be explained except with hate?

Re: Rumour: Zelda Live-Action Movie Eyes "Popular" Princess Pick

Drachma

I am really disappointed with some members of the community here. Transphobia is unacceptable! Hunter Schafer is a good actress and, in my eyes, a beautiful person, even though we shouldn't judge appearances, as it is not our place to do so. Whether she ends up being cast or not is unlikely, but at least visually it would fit, and I think it wouldn't harm the film.

@Anti-Matter
I find it funny, that you post basically the same message under every GCN Windwaker article. Seems like important work.

Regarding my personal opinion:
I like the original art style way more then the one in the remake. First it was quite innovative and fitting to the whole game and setting of Zelda and second it was implemented beautyfully.

I also was very disapointed in the remake regarding the overuse of the "bloom" effect and that the light shading was so different that it got rid of the color edges, for example when lamps get near a wall. The cartoon optic was gone and everything was shaded with gradients.

Re: Original Minecraft Creator Has "Basically Announced" A Spiritual Successor

Drachma

Notch can talk much, especially nonsense the last years.
How would a Minecraft successor even play out? I doubt it'll ever see the light of day. He aborted some projects in the past.

I liked what he did with Minecraft ages ago, when I was playing a beta version of it. But I couldn't care less for what this person says or does anymore, not because but also in addition what he said on twitter etc. over the years.

I think you are totally wrong. It's always bad to spoil a person.

Just because people are born later or missed something in a specific time slot (because whatever, tons of reasons possible) and could not experience it, when it was new, does not entitle others to spoil their media experience. You have that only once! Why should anyone not deserve this feeling for something for the first time? It's special.

I think everyone has the same right to have a fresh experience. Independant of the point in time without beeing biased, influenced or spoiled, because this alters the outcome and perception of any media for the experiencing person.

Re: Talking Point: Will Xenoblade Chronicles X Finally Tie Into The Wider Series On Switch?

Drachma

Spoilers ahead!

What I don't get in the article is the assumption, that project Exodus happens at the same time when Klaus does his world-splitting experiment. How would this even work? And humankind left Earth when the war was already ongoing, right? When Klaus did his shenanigans, the sourrounding environment was normal, if I remember correctly.

And another topic:
Elma brings skell technology to earth (outro from X), but before in xenoblade 1 and 2 skell-like entities and big robots already exist. So idk how this could come together. I'd assume after future redeemed technology from Klaus' time would continue and even then they had large robots already, or am I wrong?

Anyway, as I didn't play the old xeno games I instantly assumed that it would be Elma comming to earth in the outro of future redeemed. It made sense to me, because it's also a "blade" game and it would mean X is a sequel at any point after the trilogy. But this would make the answering of my second topic even harder.
I can understand why people assume it's KOS-MOS, but I think their confidence is too strong for the most part, because we don't know jack atm. I think some people now just want to yell KOS-MOS even if it's just a guess to be right in the end and able to say "I told you so".

Re: So, Will You Be Listening To The New Mobile App Nintendo Music?

Drachma

I already have a giant OST and remix library from a variety of games. Partially CDs, partially downloaded via many different online platforms or bought from apple music or bandcamp. Sometimes even youtube, if I can't find it anywhere.
My favourites are always bought, imported if needed.

So it's a nice addition for many people, but I can live without it and as of now I think I won't even try it out. Maybe later if the offered library grows and some exotic stuff is added too.
I don't use my phone anyway for music. I have a whole setup at home already for all different kinds of listening habits.

Re: Dragon Quest Monsters: The Dark Prince Version 1.0.3 Out Now, Here Are The Full Patch Notes

Drachma

@BodkinDQ
Okay thanks for sharing your experience. I frequently use tactics as they seem to have the greatest impact and it's allright regarding debuffing enemies and healing. I have no problem with this, so most of your stated points are clear for me and regarding tactics also working quite well.

I guess I have to experiment more with tactics and spell combination. My main problem is, that for example toxic spells are used hardly at all whether I put to ruthless or debuffing enemies, but I'll see how it plays out in the end.

Re: Dragon Quest Monsters: The Dark Prince Version 1.0.3 Out Now, Here Are The Full Patch Notes

Drachma

This patch was a long time ago and I was looking for patch notes for a while before finding them somewhere online. Nice to find it here now as well, but way too late.

And why the hell is the diffiulty indicator missing now from the teleport screen in the rose hill tower (the small red demon heads)? I liked that to indicate where I can grind my monster levels the best way. Also this change is mentioned nowhere.

Re: Video: Digital Foundry's Technical Analysis Of Pikmin 4

Drachma

The technical aspect of this game is just amazing. The graphical jump and the style is on a whole new level. I didn't notice the music that much to be honest, because it's very quiet and non-recognisable for me in comparison to older titles but at least we got some old tracks in variations.

I'm a Pikmin player since the first iteration on gamecube. Unfortunately I like part 4 the least because it's, as mentioned by others before, too easy and simple. I don't like the level design as there are so many ways to move things around that there was no thinking required. I was in fact dissapointed sometimes, when I thougt "this is finally a shortcut and a needed way to transit to a different area" just to notice a few moments afterwards, that I don't need it at all and all treasures are done already.
Also too many people and dull sidequest. It's just busywork with no effort and no reward.
I'm a bit sad, that everything was so easy. I mean I get it, Pikmin was never hard. But the older games felt different. And Oatchi is way to mighty in every aspect. But I also cannot not use him, becaus he's needed.
I 100%ed the game yesterday and I expected it to be way more challanging after the first credits or in the extra content. It is what it is.

All in all a nice and technically very impressive game, but I dont want the series to continue in this direction.

Sorry if this was offtopic, but it had to get out eventually.

Re: Soapbox: Sonic Adventure 2 Turns 20 — It’s Time For A Chao Garden Comeback

Drachma

I really really liked and played the hell out of Sonic Adventure 2 Battle on my Gamecube... and a major part was grinding for rings and parts for my chaos!
I just love those kind of games. Small and lovely animals or creatures who can evolve and adapt. And the competitions where very motivating for me and just to discover how they will change if I give them these small animals or those robot-parts... and how they change their appearance and everything.

It was amazing and I want it to continue for so long now, but I had less and less hope the last decade. But still a little hope remains... Just make a good chao game already! I mean it was just a "small" part of Sonic Adventure 2, but it was very fleshed out.

Re: Deals: Pre-Order Monster Hunter Rise At A Whopping 30% Off In The UK

Drachma

@Mangaphile

You're probably right. When I was looking for a sale I just had bad luck for a frined of mine to play with me. I got it years back.
My point in general is, that I guess a price drop for Rise may not be happening for a while for official purchasing places. I dont want to be missunderstood.
This shall be no battle who finds the lowest price on the internet.

Re: Deals: Pre-Order Monster Hunter Rise At A Whopping 30% Off In The UK

@jump

Of course Nintendo is really bad regarding price drops for their major titles for many years. And yes, it's completely normal, that prices drop fast after release especially for retail games and digital when sales happen, which happens quite often on steam for example.

But to say people probalby don't try other games is just a bad assumption.
