Re: Reggie Fils-Aime Discusses NES Mini Demand and Apologises to Those That Missed Out

Destron

Walmart had 10 this morning, so the last of them must still be trickling out. I stopped in for something and people were line up in electronics to get them.

If Nintendo does not want to make them, you would think they could contract it out to someone else. It might raise the price a bit since another hand on the cookie jar would want a cut, but people have paid well over MSRP for them, so I done people would mind if the price was $5-$10 higher just to have it readily available.

Re: Video: This Zelda: Breath Of The Wild Player Ain't Got No Time For Shrine Puzzles

Destron

@onex that's what I did lol. Also if your turn it around before the all fall, it lands directly in the last hallway, just flip the maze back around and your good.

It's cool the engine is so versatile, but I prefer to solve the puzzles, that most of the fun of it. The only one I got genuinely frustrated at was the one where there are two, and you have to go to one and put the balls in the Same pattern as the other one. Before I found the other shrine I was totally confused.

Re: Rumour: SNES Classic Mini Coming Later This Year

Destron

LOL at those that think this will hurt Switch sales. Nobody will ever be able to find one to buy it, so it's not even a factor.

Also these won't really hurt VC because this is a set library of games. Also, if it's has Link to the Past (a given) some justification could still be made to buy the game on Switch VC to have it on the go since you can't carry a Mini with you.

If anything, the 3DS VC would be the biggest competition for Switch VC for the games you already bought on 3DS. But then again, you can't find a N3DS anyways so I guess Switch SNES VC is safe.

Re: Italian Discontinuation of the NES Mini Seals Its Fate

Destron

@Gerbwmu the Sega and Atari versions of those things are crap though, they are all made by the same company. The sound is horrible, in some places the emulation is horrible and the controller barely works, it's a cheap peice of garbage. They use IR in the wireless versions so they require line of site to the console. Also they are mono composite, no HDMI. These things usually retail for $40 but they probably make them for next to nothing judging how cheaply made they are.

Re: The Mario Kart 8 Deluxe File Size Speeds Into View

Destron

@123akis that wouldn't help anything. The reason digital games are the price they are is so that they are not competing with retailers on price. If Nintendo/Sony/Microsoft started pricing digital cheap right out of the gate, people would be more inclined to buy digital vs physical and hurt physical sales, which will make retailers not want to carry games. They still need that physic presence in stores, so they are not going to do something that upsets retailers. It's not about retailers being left out.

Re: Super Mario Happy Meal Toys Are Headed To McDonald's In North America

Destron

I still have the Super Mario 3 toys from when I was a kid. What I usually do with stuff like this is wait until the promotion is over and grab them off ebay or something. If you do it soon after you can usually grab complete sets for about what you would have paid for them at McDonald's and ebay will be inundated with them.

I can usually feel my arteries clogging just walking by a McDonald's, so I typically avoid them unless I'm on the road and it's my only option.

Re: Super Nintendo's 'Unholy Night' Pre-Orders Are Now Live

Destron

@Joeynator3000 Making games in the style of 8/16 Bit games is one thing. Making a game that will actually run on an SNES is a totaly different challenge.

Most "retro" games made today would never be able to run on the systems they emulate. They just use that graphical style but don't stick to the actual restrictions of the style.

Re: Poll: What Wii U Ports Would You Like to Play on Nintendo Switch?

Destron

@Crono1973 well to be clear, the portability is the main factor for me because of how much I travel. I am beyond they partying stage of my life so I would rather go back to the hotel and play a game.

I will admit people play up the portability way more than they probably should, when most peoples ideas of portability is being able to play in another room or their backyard. But I do carry mine with me, but I don't play it in public on the train or anything.

Re: Poll: What Wii U Ports Would You Like to Play on Nintendo Switch?

Destron

@Crono1973 Sounds more like you didn't buy one and need to justify to yourself it's OK.

And just so you know, it's OK for people to have different opinions than you. That sometimes happens in life.

I just said the portability is my biggest factor. I don't play it in public though. I play it in my hotel room. But I have seen people with them in public. I rode in an Uber the other day with someone that had one. I have also seen them in the park. Your experience isn't the only one.

My Switch hae never had connectivity issues or bending either. Or scratched screen. Not every thing that you read on the Internet is as big an epidemic as you think. My launch PS4 has a dead controller though. Maybe is should have made a huge deal about that.

I already own a Wii U, so u can buy those games is I wanted. Nothing wrong with wanting those same games on a more preferential system though. Yes the Wii U hurts my hand after about an hour of use, and no I have not had that issue with Switch. I also don't have the problem with my 3DS or Vita, just the Wii U gamepad.

Re: Poll: What Wii U Ports Would You Like to Play on Nintendo Switch?

Destron

@Crono1973 Those that skipped the Wii U probably had their reasons. But if they don't already own own, it's points buy one now. Especially since in many cases they are selling for as much as or more than a Switch.

Plus, the biggest selling point a port could give me the Wii U can't is the portability. I can go buy Lego City Undercover for Wii U, but I can't play it on the go. I travel a ton for work so the portability is the most important factor to me.

And to be quite honest, the Wii U is painful to use for me. It's slow and sluggish and the controler cramps my hand. I don't have either of these problems with the Switch.

I already own a Wii U, and I would still rather have the games on Switch. To me it's just a better console.

Re: Poll: What Wii U Ports Would You Like to Play on Nintendo Switch?

Destron

You guys seem to be forgetting those that didn't own a Wii U. If the Switch does as well as people are projecting, then there will be a lot of Switch owners that never got the chance to play a lot of those games. The same reason Sony ported some PS3 stuff to PS4, a lot of PS4 owners were converted 360 owners and missed some of those games.

I have a Wii U, but the slow trickle of releases caused me to loose interest in it and it got relegated to the kids toy room. The only games I played on it were Super Mario 3D World, Lego City Undercover, Zombie U, and Mario Kart 8 (I even got Windwaker HD for free with Mario Kart 8 and still didn't play it). I missed everything else as well as the MK 8 DLC that I even preordered.

I absolutely love my Switch though, and would definitely pick some of these games up if ported because they would be new games to me. I get that all of you are die hard fans and bought everything and played everything already, but that's not the case for everyone, and like I said, if it does well, then that will be the case for a lot of new owners.

If you already played it the port is not for you, ignore it and move on.

I should also add, it's extremely rare for front line teams to make ports. Those typically get tossed to the D teams or get contacted out. So these ports are not always taking resources away from new entries or games.

And I will absolutely be buying Mario Kart 8 Deluxe despite already owning the Wii U version.

Re: Video: The Top Five Nintendo Switch Co-Op Games So Far

Destron

Snipperclips was a suprise Co OP experience. We had a blast with it. Wish they would add more to it.

Little Inferno is a great game, but the coop is a little lame. I haven't tried World of Goo coop, I could see where that might be fun.

If I had to guess, I would think the biggest strike against Bomberman is the price. I don't know how they picked the games they chose, we have had a lot of fun with Bomberman, but it does feel like it should have been a $20 title.

Re: Behold The Majesty Of The GameCube-Styled Nintendo Switch Joy-Con

Destron

@StuTwo Those guidelines released by Nintendo are actually just generic copy paste solutions for any wireless device and may or may not specifically apply to the Switch.

Water can actually absorb and block ANY wireless signal. It has nothing to to with the hardware, it's the signal itself.

I used to work as a cable installer, fish tanks, wireless surround sound, baby monitors, cordless phones, microwaves, Christmas lights, and sometimes just the material the wall is made from were all common issues for slow WiFi complaints. Another wireless device that just happens to be on the same frequency or close to it can really cause havoc.

I have even seen RC cars interfere with wireless devices.

Re: Review: Shock Troopers (Switch eShop / Neo Geo)

Destron

@Ryu_Niiyama it's not so much the cost as time, and sometimes possibly ability. (Unless they need to contract an artists, quality pixel artists don't come cheap) For a single or couple of artists it would take much longer to make a game with the more advanced art, which could also double the production time of the game.

With an indie, especially on your first game, you sometimes don't have the money to contract things to be made or spend years on making a game.

I'm not arguing against them having better art styles, just saying that some of them simply don't have the ability to do better, especially on their first outing. Simple pixel art is easy to execute.

That's also why so many indies that aren't trying for retro use simple vector art, because it's even easier to make than pixel art.

The line of what is an indie has been a bit blurred lately when you have full studios making "inidie" games. But real indie games are usually made by a few guys, sometimes just one guy and there is a chance your artists may be pulling double duty as it is.

Re: Review: Shock Troopers (Switch eShop / Neo Geo)

Destron

@Ryu_Niiyama for most indies, the art is the hardest part and they tend to have limited resources. NES/SNES visuals are far easier to create than the detailed pixel art of NeoGeo titles. On a commercial game you typically have many artist working on a game, indies usually have 1 or 2.

Yacht Club (Shovel Knight) for example started as a group of guys making a game. I think they had 2 artists if I remember.

Re: UK Survey Shows Enthusiasm for Nintendo Switch and Its Concept, But Pricing is a Factor

Destron

Although not major, Nintendo does have a slight image problem with the Switch.

It's a tablet, plain and simple. As a tablet, it's pretty cheap. You won't find another tablet on the market that is as powerful as, the switch, with the same storage, and comes with all the accessories for $299. Tablets less powerful, with less storage can sell for $500 or more.

However to its primary market its a game console, so they try and compare it to the price of the PS4/Xbox One, and when you make that comparison it's an under powered console that is more expensive than its more powerful competition.

Unfortunately, average Joe Shopper that plays only consoles typically isn't to technically inclined or well informed either, and that gap grows, further when your talking about parents buying for kids.

For what Switch is, it's a damn good price. For what it advertises to be, it's a bit expensive.

Re: Nintendo Download: 16th March (North America)

Destron

Well, I'll be getting all 3 Tomorrow Corp games and Binding of Isaac. On the fence about Picross 3D.... I want it, but I don't know how much I'll play it on my Wii U.

Have not played World of Goo since Wii, or Little Inferno since releas. Last one I have not played at all.

Re: Nintendo Switch Stays On Top in Japan Despite Sharp Week Two Decline

Destron

The on the go factor has contributed to me playing my Switch more than any other console now, because I am always on the go for work lol

I have already bought Zelda, Snipperclips, Bomberman, I am Setsuna, Fast RMX, King of Fighters 98, and Blaster Master 0.

I am also only about half way through Zelda due to lack of time atm. But I can whittle away at it because I can bring it with me. If it was a PS4 game I wouldnt have even been able to start it yet, like Horizon that got delivered launch day and I have not had time to touch

Re: "No Widespread Technical Problems" With Switch Joy-Cons, Claims Nintendo

Destron

@EternalDragonX

I didn't say it wasnt an issue. I even said in another post I'm not saying it's not an issue. But I don't have the issue, and my console is also behind glass doors on the same shelf as my Wii U with a PS3 and PS4 below it, and an WiFi enabled blu ray player and roku box above it.

So either only some are defective, or it's environmental. A person with issues has nothing to gain lying about it.

Re: "No Widespread Technical Problems" With Switch Joy-Cons, Claims Nintendo

Destron

@ALinkttPresent you should absolutely report the problem, I think a lot of people have thus mindset and that's why the reports are not significant.

I have had zero issues with my left Joy-Con, so there has to be good ones out there. Either mine is not defective, or my environment doesent cause the issue I dunno. But I have all my consoles by my TV, as well as a Roku, and my PC and router are less then 10 feet away.

I'm not saying the issues down exist however. So if you have one, report it. If nobody is reporting it they won't see it as an issue and work to fix it.
