Re: Someone At Nintendo Expected The Wii U To Shift 100 Million Units

Dave24

So anyone who was wondering why the console got a name Wii U (was there anyone?) has it confirmed and spelled out beyond the shadow of doubt the reasoning.
They wanted to milk on Wii and like idiots expected money to come in, without doing any marketing.
That's why their marketing goy got fired, because they finally opened their eyes.

Re: Editorial: Nintendo NX in Multiple Form Factors Could Shake Up the Video Game Industry

Dave24

@hepgius marketing helps, I agree with you here, but there are not that many "Pokemons" to make it worth while.
I mean, Ouya speaks for itself.

To tell the truth, western gaming culture is what it is, because of... gamers and how gaming transformed, it's not something for nerds only now. I mean, people insist games are supposed to be art, so industry just wants to meet the demand with hollywood stories and being "deep", looking for things that are not there.
As soon as this talk happened, the gaming started transforming to what it is today - story/graphics first, gameplay the second.

Re: Editorial: Nintendo NX in Multiple Form Factors Could Shake Up the Video Game Industry

Dave24

@GravyThief it would be hard to pull off, because there would be many, many steps to make it work.
First, they would have to create entirely new system, since Linux/Windows would create legal issues.
Once Steam/Nintendo would make system that would run steam, another issue would appear - support for games for this new system. So that means the programmers would have to reprogram the game to make it work on this new OS for the console, which means a lot of effort and a lot of companies that created those games.
Steam is nothing more than a platform to sell/rent you game, the system support is entirely diffrent matter.

Re: Editorial: Nintendo NX in Multiple Form Factors Could Shake Up the Video Game Industry

Dave24

@belmont @hepgius you both saw how VC ended. PS Now or whatever it's called bombs.
Nowadays, mindset of many people is that game from last year or two is old and not worth playing.
Even GOG shows that many of those old games are played by people that want to come back to them or that small minority that just doesn't care about the graphics etc. and want to play a game.
Everyone else, though? There would be barely any response.

Re: Editorial: Nintendo NX in Multiple Form Factors Could Shake Up the Video Game Industry

Dave24

What makes me worry with NX is that we only know it exists, it will have Breath of the Wild and that they still think about the idea for this console and sh#tload of rumours that may or may not be true.

Nintendo ignores the rumours and they are blind to notice that those rumours can be harmful for them and bite them in the ass later, turning some of their consumers off (especially those who read ign/kotaku or other clickbait site, taking rumours as fact/true), and after all the build up of rumors, it will be hard for them to make them go away/people to forget about them.
MS fails hard with X1 now, because of what they said about it at first and they are still paying for it, even though years passed and they backpedaled completely.

Them being silent about the console that is supposedly to be released in March 2017 is not reassuring at all, especially since they missed perfect ocassion to present it and it would be the biggest news of E3, because this year was mostly nothing to talk about (basically, it sucked and there was some disgusting murdering of franchises).
Instead, they wasted this opportunity. What's left is Cologne Gamescon, which is I guess too small for something of this caliber, or TGS, which again, is not as big as E3 (although probably bigger than gamescon, and on TGS and in September there will be Final Fantasy XV hype).
If they won't create hype like Sony did with PS4 (basically saying what people wanted to hear) and sustain it up to release, NX will fail as hard, or maybe even harder than Wii U, because they will repeat the same mistake.

Some could give in to argument of "they don't want to show it, because they are afraid of competition ripping it off before the release of NX", but think about it for a second.

Ripping off technology is not that simple. Everyone saw what smashing success Wii was, but it took Sony and MS 4 years to come up with their own versions without patent issues. After 4 years it was already too late and Wii/motion controls hype already started to slow down, so those 2 things bombed.

If they are afraid of tech/idea being ripped off, it can only mean two things, that either competition already has the technology and did not think of using it the way they want with NX and it's so simple they can recreate it instantly, or they are not sure if NX will launch in 2017, which would lead to a disaster.
First option looks more realistic.

What Nintendo must do is to NOT be a parent and el presidente with tying purchases to the console and needing their assistance with something as simple as system transfer.
If they will make games as great as they were on Wii U without any gimmicks or confusion and be modern with account system, they will succeed. It's not about power of the console to drive sales and never was.

Re: Editorial: Nintendo NX in Multiple Form Factors Could Shake Up the Video Game Industry

Dave24

@A01 I can, and what is even sadder, it happened to PC and it was a disaster of epic proportions.
Tages makes a comeback full force, but on consoles. So in addition to what you said, you would have another DRM with limited activations and also possibility of bricking your console.

@GravyThief VC also sounded like a great idea and easy money, but it's not as good as anyone imagined. But speaking of Steam, those steamboxes bombed hard.
Steam would take a lot of effort to make it work, unless NX would go for Linux, but it would end up with lawsuit like Sony.

Re: Shigeru Miyamoto Thinks You Should Give Star Fox Zero Another Try

Dave24

Wow. I guess Nintendo should put him out of spotlight, because he is not doing them any favors prwise.

Anyway, I wonder what he means with "and it's getting harder and harder for people to let a game to sink in and enjoy leisurely". I mean, since The Last of Us, you can see a trend of games going for hollywood movie vibe. Slow, having to slow down walking so the plot can be presented/explained and not concentrating on gameplay and be more about the story and graphics and not gameplay. There are nowadays only a couple of games that do storytelling through gameplay, most of the time it's spoonfeding the plot and getting out of gameplay to snailpace walk and listen to crap. They even murdered God of War to fit into this crappy format.

Star Fox Zero doesn't even have that much replay value, because alt routes get you to the same place and outcome anyway, unlike previous ones. It's 2-3 hrs game with barely any replay value for 40-60 bucks. It's more like 10-15bucks downloadable title. You're better of with Sine Moira or some other game.

Re: Video: Digital Foundry Produces Extended Breath of the Wild Technical Analysis

Dave24

@Zeldafanforlife Comparing it to Witcher 3 is unfair to XCX, since it's on weaker hardware.
Still doesn't change the fact it looks worse in comparison, because it does, although Witcher 3 at times can look like ps3 game even on best rigs.

XCX came too late to the party and all the downgrade talk comes because of games that came out in 2015, be it TW3, Fallout 4 or other.

Re: Takedown Notice May Spell the End for Digger Dan DX

Dave24

Top tier kek.

I'm amazed that company like this jumped on some poor guy. I never heard of them, but it shows that they are more greedy than Square and other big publishers.

Square could make billions on all the rip offs of Final Fantasy 8.
I guess now Bugthesda has green light to sue many studios for fps games.

Re: Nintendo NX Has A Core Idea Which Doesn't Just "Follow Advancements In Technology", Claims Miyamoto

Dave24

@Vegaphil Aonuma about Breath of the Wild and NX
"From the beginning we were thinking of releasing this title on both platforms", and in 2013 Miyamoto said about Zelda that they made significant progress and they actually wanted to show the game, but wanted to polish it more. And that was beginning of the year, so we can safely assume development of Zelda started in 2012.
But you can still believe "they just started".

Re: Review: Mighty No. 9 (Wii U)

Dave24

@yannah21 wasn't it supposed to be Mighty No. Nein, from German's "no"?
No grammarnazi or anything. If there is something like nien, then I will be happy to learn about it.

Re: Editorial: Sonic the Hedgehog and Super Mario 64 Were True Game Changers

Dave24

"changed the way we thought about 3D gaming, taking that form from experimental and frustrating and transforming it into something special"
I hope by "we" you mean you and your brother and " idea of smoothly running around a 3D space was unfamiliar" you mean yourself.

SM64 changed how platformers play and set new standards for the genre, but as far as 3D itself goes... It's debatable.

Re: Review: Mega Man 7 (New 3DS / SNES)

Dave24

Where's the review of the game that takes the best aspects of the 8- and 16-bit era classics you know and love, and transforms them with modern tech, fresh mechanics, and fan input into something fresh and amazing?

Also, 7 is far from being the worst in the series.

Re: New Professor Layton Title to be Revealed on 27th July

Dave24

@Pluto14 specter is a prequel that takes place before the first game in the series. 3 years from what I can remember. Mask and Azran make it prequel trilogy.

The letter could be just them leaving the possibility for sequels and not burn the bridges behind them just in case

Re: New Professor Layton Title to be Revealed on 27th July

Dave24

I love the series, but prequel trilogy to me was the weakest of the series. Plotwise, Unwouned Future was the best.
I can barely remember Spectre and Azran Legacy(other than annoying running out of ideas for puzzles), I liked Mask the most from those 3.

Still, can't wait for the new one, although I hope Hershel will be main and death of va won't stop them.

Re: Review: Tokyo Mirage Sessions #FE (Wii U)

Dave24

@Uncensored "They will ignore the important stuff to make sure they get that check"
Correction - if there is paid review, the money is given in advance, not after the review. Sounds stupid, but that's how it works.

Re: Review: Tokyo Mirage Sessions #FE (Wii U)

Dave24

@udickridesony what the hell is that human fish blond thing? Or is it how slowpoke as human would look like?
Great picture.

I'm happy that the game turned out good and is somewhat a fresh take on dead horse genre

Re: Editorial: Mighty No. 9 and High Profile Disappointments Don't Invalidate Crowdfunding

Dave24

@IceClimbers not really. People didn't learn from Yogventures, a game that got double the budget guy wanted (he wanted 250k, got 560k) and he got away with wasting all the money leading to spectacular fail, nor did they learn from Clang, a game that got 530k and the guys making it were silent for entire year, only to say after that time "sry guise, we only made prototype and it was no fun. Thx for monies".

People will never learn and I can see Inafune still making more KS games.

Re: Editorial: Mighty No. 9 and High Profile Disappointments Don't Invalidate Crowdfunding

Dave24

@Socar "All the successful games that have been kickstarted so far are the ones that were aimed at a specific audience and nothing else" kinda redutant, don't you think? Genres are aimed at specific audiences, that's why there is genres and not only games.

The biggest sin of kickstarter is that there is no guarantee or anything to save the backer from being scammed. When the project doesn't come to life, you are the one losing money by funding some a-hole welfare.

The best kickstarters in my opinion are those from Larian Studios - they have the money to make the game, but use kickstarter to make additional content, not like many other kickstarter, when it's pretty much about welfare.
Clear goals and where the money goes, constant updates and reasonable budget are the key for KS success and good things coming out.
When the guy wanted 900k for simple 8 stage platformer, people should call him out on sh#tty budget planning or at least question it, but instead they were all kissing butt about their salary or white knighting the whole thing.
So in conclusion, as always, white knights and blind fanboism led to this kickstarter failing and being successful.

Re: Editorial: Mighty No. 9 and High Profile Disappointments Don't Invalidate Crowdfunding

Dave24

@brandonbwii but is it really, now?
It's the same guy that grinlit Mega Man 10, which was pretty meh.
Also there is that weird thing of Inafune pretty much dissapearing and I would say to sam extent he could be considered to be bigger name/household than say Kojima.
And yet nobody was knocking on his doors other than the backers from KS.
Overall his trackrecord is not that good like some people pointed out in other topics.

Re: Editorial: Mighty No. 9 and High Profile Disappointments Don't Invalidate Crowdfunding

Dave24

@NintendoFan64 "Mighty No. 9 will be remembered as a perfect example of how NOT to manage a Kickstarter game."
I would place it in top5, but not the first place. First place would be that guy who wanted to make that viking game, got 200k, twice the budget he needed, and after a year said "sry guise, money run out and I won't make the game. Thx for money, though, smell ya".
And they had no idea, because they followed the hype instead of sitting down and look up everything kickstarter said, just threw the money away. Now you have mentioning screenshots that were never meant to be final game and people dissapointed.

It is sad that they got pretty much scammed, but on the other hand serves them right and most important thing is if will they learn their lesson from that one.

Re: Editorial: Mighty No. 9 and High Profile Disappointments Don't Invalidate Crowdfunding

Dave24

How disrespectful to call him san, when he is at least sama for you, although Inafune-dono is more appropriate with all the shilling news and how awesome it will be. Only after it hit the fan you started to jump on it like every other site.

I love how that one screenshot is brought up, even though the guy himself said the game won't look like this.

This kickstarter had all the warning signs, but nobody wanted to listen, because suddenly Inafune was DA BOSS, and now his brown nosed backers got what they wanted.

Re: Rumour: French Media Claims Nintendo NX is Set for September Reveal

Dave24

"Nintendo wants to avoid the price of the hardware getting too high"
That's the rumour? It's obvious, every company does that now so they can sell their crap. Days of "if you can't afford our 600 dallaz console, get 2nd job" are long gone.

@Dave24 - please drop the profanity. This is not the first time you've been pulled up on it recently. Please don't make us have to consider further action. Thanks.
