I have only played the Hyrule Warrior games. I hated the first one but liked the second because it added to the story for Botw. So I may like this one if it is similar to the last Hyrule warrior one which it seems to be based on the preview.
Hopefully they have a surprise game or two to announce featuring some of the other long dormant franchises: F-Zero, Golden Sun, Kid Icarus, Sin & Punishment, Pushmo, or Code Name S.T.E.A.M.
I didn't think we would get another 2d Metroid game, Advance Wars or a new Crusin game so anything is possible.
Release date for Advance Wars 1+2 Announcement of Either a new Advance Wars or AW 3+4 Fire Emblem something or other Metroid Dread DLC??? Mario + Rabbids 2 Pokemon stuff Detailed look at Triangle Strategy Update on Splatoon Some third party ports Something released that day!

Way out there rogue theory: New F-Zero game by the makers of Fast RMX
Splatoon 3 - Aug. 2022 Mario + Rabbids Sparks of Hope - May 2022 The sequel to The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild (temp.) - Nov 2022 Bayonetta 3 - Dec 2022 Metroid Prime 4 (temp.) - Launch title for Switch Pro Q4 2023
Bought this on sale for $20 and for that price I feel is fair for the amount of content on offer. It is a interesting game and my kids loved the fact you can drive as a unicorn but there is just not that many tracks. In fact they pad out the game play by playing same tracks over and over with different superficial graphical elements on top. Each of these tracks are very short as well, which for young kids is great but for someone looking for something to sink their teeth into its all over too quickly. Hopefully the planned DLC will add more to its value proposition.
@BloodNinja Same. At the height of going to LAN's I would bring my 40lb 19in flat viewsonic CRT monitor, rolling office chair, a 3x3 card table, giant server case PC with all the neon none sense, and all the other accessories with big bag of snacks and drinks. when I was at the top of my game I could bring it all in 1 trip!
I am glad that Sakamoto is talking Metroid! With the success of Dread I am Hopeful that they have more incentive to make the next 2d/2.5d Metroid game quickly. I always have room for more Metroid in my life.
What I hope indies take away from this is that accessibility and difficulty are not mutually exclusive. Cinematics are also nice.
I think it depends on how far they are in the development cycle they are for the successor to the Switch. As we have seen with Twilight Princess and BOTW they straddled the line of 'end of life' of the current system and the launch title of the next. If they are shooting for 2024 for the new system like rumors suggest then we may be seeing it this year or early next. If its sooner like Q4 2023 then they will sit on it. I am betting Metroid Prime 4 is going to be a launch title for the new system.
I have all 9 translated volumes and it's pretty good. There is also Mangas for many of the other games too albeit much shorter (only being 1 to 2 volumes). I believe this started out as a 1 or 2 volume and then the creatures wanted to do a proper story with it.
Ahh memories, I was 13 going on 14. I used my small allowance to buy any magazine that information on the new system and anytime we went to Target I would just hang out by the demo hoping I would get a turn to try Mario 64. The system was expensive and had no idea if I would actually get one from my parents having 3 brothers in a lower middle class family. When I opened that big present Christmas morning and found the words Nintendo 64 on it - I lost my mind similarly to that kid in the video. The fact that they also got me Mario 64, Killer Instinct Gold, and Green controller was just too amazing for words. My Teenage years will always be tied to games like Mario, OoT, 007 and Perfect Dark and scraping up money to rent games from the local movie rental stores in those first couple years before having a job. Thanks for the Memories Nintendo (my parents).
I waited in a Walmart overnight for one (12 hours) because they were not selling them to employees at the Best Buy I worked at. Technically I was waiting there for my Mom so she could buy it for me for X-mas. Good times lol.
I am frankly surprised that nether Mad World or the Last Story have been re-released. I have both but would enjoy them better on the Switch. I would also like the FF games get a definitive ed. treatment with polished graphics, VA and new cinematics and released as a package.
The GameCube was both the first Console I bought with my own money and waited in line to get at Midnight. I don't remember what other launch games they had but the only one that interested me was Star Wars Rogue Squadron II. I remember getting it home and setting it up on my HUGE 27inch tube TV and sitting on my giant bean bag and thinking this was the coolest thing ever. Watching that opening cinematic of the fighters heading to the death star was just so amazing. I really got one of those "we are in the future" feelings. I did not get much sleep for school the next day. Who launches a new game system on a school night Nintendo??
I got taken by the Mario ones and bought 3 - one for myself and ones for the kids. never opened mine and the kids are just gathering dust. While at the local department stores still have stacks of them.
If I get the Zelda one it will be at a steep discount or as a present from someone else.
Other M, is not great but not terrible. They experimented and tried to do a story first and work in the game mechanics around it. Also since it was on the Wii they needed to dumb the controls as much as possible. I would love to see a directors cut of this game with modern hardware.
I could never get more then superficially interested in both GTA and SMT. I just end up bouncing off every game I have purchased in the past. KOTOR is a super old game that hasn't aged well and still in my steam library. Nothing for me now and probably for the rest of the year.
I have picked up a number of the Shin Megami Tensei games over the years starting with a heavily discounted Strange Journey on DS, moving to 3DS games Devil Survivor overclocked and lastly Shin Megami Tensei IV. I never get very far, just really bouncing off the difficulty. I like the idea of easier difficulty and more accessibility options. I will keep a eye out for a demo.
I preordered for the sweet coffee mug from Walmart.com and in the home stretch back track loot collection mode but I am curious about the demo. I hope it drives more players to towards this glorious game.
Isn't this just the lowest common denominator at a premium price? If you really want all this game offers and done better go with Etrian Odyssey and their ilk. For the 10$ or less range this wouldn't be outrageous. If it doesn't already have a demo its going to need one to help sell this one. Interestingly enough there seems to be a trend at Square to make simpler or back to basics games. There is also that cards one as well. I played the demo for it and it wasn't bad but I also not interested enough to spend money on it. If I wanted a game that could have been released in the 80's I will go myabandonware.com and play for free or pull out the ds/d3s and the fore mention Etrian Odyssey or the Tower.
If its the difference between having the game on the platform or not I think its nice to at least have the option. I will never buy a cloud game because I have a gaming PC but if you have primarily just a Switch its nice to have the option.
I am huge fan of Metroid after starting with the first Prime game and then playing Fusion and Zero Mission. I stayed clear of Other M based on the reviews and other gamers comments on the story elements. When It went on sale for 5$ I gave in and decided to give it a shot.
I did not hate the game in fact there are lots of good stuff on display. The cinematic elements and graphics were amazing for a Wii game and the best Samus has looked. I also enjoyed the voice acting which was at a time where only Nintendo was still doing the silent protagonist for all of their first party titles. the 2d exploration was also fun and snappy with the melee counters.
What didn't work well game play wise was having to go into first person for... really anything. Combat it was difficult to become immobile and having to point at the screen to do things. It didn't work well and was clunky. If they made this a complete 2.5D game it would have been a better design decision.
The story elements involving Adam also just didn't work. Using him as the vessel to unlock abilities, his relationship with Samus and general actions all don't work.
I wish they kept more of the cinematic and voice acting bits for dread and the upcoming Prime 4 game. I did like what they did have in Dread but they were very conservative.
One thing I would love to see is a more powerful Switch. When the rumors for the Switch Pro dried up I felt so let down. Ever since the launch of the Switch there has been compromises made to almost every game including Nintendo's own. We have gotten to point where there is just no way to get many games on the system besides by Cloud.
There is so so so many games that could use a performance boost to get them to a playable or more playable state.
I would have taken beefier system over a OLED screen that is for sure.
I was just so relieved that I didn't get burned for preordering the Switch considering The Wii U flopped hard and then 3ds had a almost immediate price reduction.
For what its worth I did really enjoy the Wii U. Zombii U was amazing and terrifying - making you look away from the TV when any moment a zombie could come and eat you so that you could look in your bag (tablet screen) really sold me on the gimmick. Even later when everyone gave up on doing anything interesting with the second screen you could still stream games on it when someone else was watching netflix.
This would have been great in the early 00s. Its as if they saw the sales of the NES and SNES minis and was like be could totally get away with selling these systems with way less games if we wrap it in handheld nostalgia! Seriously we are only getting a couple of games with this thing and besides Vermin they have been ported to hell and back. I am uber nintendo fan and collector but I am not biting with this one. Couple of thoughts from someone who has literally every Nintendo game console (which most are still connected to my TV) and has reserved a Steam Deck.
I love Nintendo and their games. The Switch has got me through some dark times these last 4+ years. There has been so much support for the Switch, it's crazy probably the most supported Nintendo system ever (no actual idea). So much so that it has a string of "impossible ports" like Doom, Doom Eternal, Divinity Original Sin 2, XCOM 2, Civ 6, Crysis(!) And Witcher 3. Very cool and impressive and I have brought most of them but...
As also a long term PC player, the extensive compromises to get these on the Switch and how janky those games are even after those compromises (XCOM 2 looking at you) makes actually playing these games painful. I have seriously contemplated getting multiple of the Hongkong group funded handheld PCs that have come up over the last years. What held me back was the price and question on how well they would be supported.
Then enter the SD. With a price of 400$ which as we know is on 50$ more then the OLED edition and checking a lot of boxes I reserved without reservation. Even if it does have the stuff they say I will enjoy it, I have so many steam games (not to mention on Epic, gog, origin, and etc). I know a lot of people talk about just using the Streaming feature in Steam. That for me is always a pain because it can be very fiddly and in practice I have to mess with the source computer a lot to get it to work or fix issues with the stream. You also can't use it if you are traveling or otherwise outside the house.
I am burnt out on these HD Zelda Remakes. I feel like they do the bare minimum with them. A couple of fixes or adjustments (that we would typically ask for anyways in free patches in modern games) and call it a day. Also pay full retail price. Stop fleecing us Nintendo.
Now the 3DS remakes for Ocarina and Majora was a different story.
Lastly, Skyward sword is one of the hardest to play mainline 3d Zeldas with its iffy controls, camera and lackluster game elements. But I will take that over a timed game with big difficulty spikes anyday.
I have played a lot of trashy Nintendo games over the years. Ever played Forsaken on the n64? It was twisted metal but with flying vehicles in 3 axis arenas. Super hard to control but did I try playing it for a long time. Battle tanks also for n64 was so dumb but I bought it and its sequel and played the crap out of them.
I wonder if they will have a Metroid version since it is coming out the same day. The new switch is a little underwhelming but they wouldn't make huge changes to the system when its still selling well. I am also guessing its using the same processor from the refreshed switches since its seems to have the same battery life but then again this a different screen so who knows.
