The n64 games seem really lacking, if it had started with a much broader selection I'd of being more inclined to pick it up. At this cost it isn't worth it.
@MarioThePainter Yep, it's a board that's looking very short term on its margins and not thinking strategically about its market position. Long term it will cause issues that are harder to fix. Especially, as a quality online offering has become so intrinsic to the continual service model that videos games are moving towards.
I hope they rapidly expand the N64 offering, what their providing right now as an online service is not as good as the competition at this price point.
I love the quality that underpins Nintendo's view of gaming, and in my mind that's the reason their games continue to hold their value after purchase, but I wish they'd put that same concept of quality into their service's. Nintendo is sometimes very poorly managed.
The N64 offering, which is the only part that interests me, is just woeful. No Smash, Pokemon Tournament, Golden Eye or WWF No Mercy. I know a lot of those have rights issues, but frankly for the money Nintendo is asking for they could pay to sort them. This all seems very anti-consumer and Nintendo need to do better, the Wii-U and the near destruction of the company isn't long ago enough to pull this sort of stuff against the fan base.
Adding additional costs for NSO is absurd, and really poor form from Nintendo. I'd pay for a gamepass style service from Nintendo but it needs to have the scope gamepass has!
I'm a huge Nintendo fan but this isn't ok. I 100% won't buy it without wrestling or GoldenEye, and license agreements will prevent either of those been available.
Chrono Cross, kingdom hearts 4, titanfall 3, a new BioShock... Either next year is going to be amazing, or someone at nvidia made a list of dream games.
I'd say this game was deserving of a 10 out of 10 if there wasn't quake 3 to also be ported over I love an arena shooter, and it is nice to see a bit of a revival of late. I thought Quake Champions and any number of flopped indies might have killed the genre, but it is very gratifying to now see a great port of a classic do well.
I think I'll pick one up. My laptops coming to the end if its serviceable life and this could be a good replacement. I think a fair number of people who want a capable and portable PC would be interested, looking at the specs would struggle to get something close at that price point just looking for a dedicated laptop. Valve are marketing it wrong, they've made a 'gaming device' which could actually be a great laptop!
THPS 3 by far wins out for me, cruise ship level and the airport are just stand out, though I have a real soft spot for the level with the street and mansion from the Adams Family, it was basically early 00's music video land. Enjoyed the first 2 but number 3 was just so much fun playing on the couch with friends.
Mother 3 finally gets a western release, and an Earthbound remake or a Mother 4. Plus a 2d Metroid and Mario Galaxy 3. None of these will happen, but maybe Nintendo does decide to make the world a better place after the past year We can only dream.
They could clearly do a release drop of the Shield ported titles digitally without too much effort.
Other then that, I think we'll wait a while for new stuff. Its not just getting the games in the can its the marketing side/qc that's also been disrupted, with the QC stuff and testing probably the bigger headache.
Stuff might be sat semi finished but just waiting for the final efforts, games are worked on in some form during and beyond release now. If your teams can't work they can't patch potentially game breaking bugs, especially, once its in a large group of peoples hands doing something that wasn't envisioned.
Mario Galaxy HD, Zelda Twilight Princess HD, Donkey Kong Country Returns (the first one) and Punch Out have all been released on the Tegra powered Shield in china, so these ports are ready to go this year on the Switch's hardware already. Nintendo has games regional locked in Nvidia deals ready for wider release to fill out this year, they just need to make decisions based on how they view the wider outlook of those franchises to fit the release schedules.
This year is a write off for new hardware, sony and microsoft must be just a tad worried about the current economic crisis.
Although, console and game sales are up due to the lockdown, globally the economic contraction is going to curtail discretionary spending later this year, just as both companies need it to be strong.
Nintendo on the other hand has a good install base, components with falling prices, and might be able to stomach a price cut for this holiday season, (if production output can be improved). It's a good time to release games on the Switch, and Nintendo's number could look even better this time next year.
Edit: a $400-$500 PS5 doesn't sell in an economy with a 14% contraction and doubling of unemployment, that's a months rent/mortgage payment. Sony has already reported it is struggling to produce the new PS5 at its target price point, price is going to be key for the next 24months.
So long as its not pushy about it I don't mind f2p experiences, the problems very few games get a good balance on that, or don't make the grind for stuff if your not dishing out money too extreme.
Cuisine Royals for example is a pretty decent game, very little flash, super fun, and never pushes you to spend money although the options there.
X is an odd one, x-2 seems like the much more enjoyable game. But, Sephrioth (best game baddie ever! He commits the most iconic murder in video games.) and viii for me. (viii for nostalgia, but it also changes up the gameplay in an interesting way, and has one the strongest stories.)
Cloud always seems a bit lost and moody, and that's saying something for a Final Fantasy character.
We're all jumping at the rumours because the big N just won't straight out tell us in a direct. Hopefully we get something before Feb, because the pokemon stuff was good but I really want to know about more then 1 upcoming franchise.
Europe's is very 90's, it could be something used to advertise the nwo or a tony hawks segment with a smash pumpkins soundtrack. North America for me, at least its clear what it is whilst not been goofy.
Wow at Crash Team Racing doing so well! Though the game is great.
2 of the top 10 are kart racers which is hilarious, but I think speaks to a need for high quality family friendly play together games.
Someone should take note and release a narrative driven modern cartoon styled 3d platformer, in the vein of Jak and Daxter, with co-op already. Market looks set to pick up on that.
I'd of said he was right until not long ago, I've now tried xcloud and nvidias streaming service and latency is a real thing. It might work in urban settings where buildings are closer to their cabinets but in more only semi-rural environments, or suburbs, as those lines get longer the service gets worse. Maybe 5G will make the difference, but I've scene that fiber connections that can handle multiple 4k streams can't do game streaming of this nature.
Both Mario Odyssey and Red Dead Redemption 2 really shouldn't be that high up.
Galaxy well deserved on the top spot, even if I think Fez should be there as the best platformer ever made, but I'd follow it with Portal 2, Skyrim or gtav as probably second placed in terms of quality in the past decade.
In terms of Nintendo, Smash Ultimate, Splatoon 2 and Mario Kart 8 are all forever classics.
Hah, I pretty much never eat fast food but on a Pokemon kick having just restarted Sun, which is my favourite even though I'm a gen 1 person, so this actually excites me a little.
Well the wiiu death of Nintendo threat is decidedly over. Now it's on Nintendo to capitalise on their market position and grow out the future customer base, time for studio acquisitions and some new ip launches.
Nintendo are in a position to be experimental and create some brand new franchises to develop customer loyalty moving forward across the install base.
I'm guessing we something at the next direct, because at the moment, post pokemon, I have no idea what Switch's next flagship game is. I can understand giving time after pokemon before the next big launch but by the end of January we need a proper direct, Nintendo are going to need to sell something new next year at some point.
I'd like the series to do something fresh with the gameplay and to flesh out the lore in a new game. Maybe something more making to jak and daxter or ratchet and clank in terms of feel and gameplay, but with a decidedly crash asethtic.
Smash bros should just walk that list, it is wildly better then the rest of the list. Resi 2 is good but it its like 9 to Smash Bros very clear 10, its nostalgia whereas smash bros does feel like a huge step forward for the game, and the more I play Smash the better it gets.
Was playing epic yarn only last night, and wow do I miss great, not good, but great, Kirby games. Epic Yarn really is amazing still, and I wish it was on switch.
