Re: Review: Mach Rider (3DS eShop)

Clayfrd

Glad to see this favorable review. I agree that this game is overlooked. I've got it on NES (was able to snag it on eBay on cart for cheaper than a VC download!), and I really enjoy it. Simple, arcade action and an impressive predecessor to Mode7. I highly recommend it.

Re: Talking Point: What Games Are You Playing This Weekend? - Issue Eighteen

Clayfrd

I need to keep working on EarthBound, which I'd sort of put to the side for awhile. I'm also in the middle of Jet Set Radio, which I'll try to finish sometime soon. Additionally, I'm working on the Ace Attorney series, trying to catch up before DD. I'm nearing the end of Justice for All, then I'll really have to hurry if I want to finish Trials and Tribulations and Apollo Justice on time! Or maybe I could take my time and hold out hope for a physical release...?

My college also has a couple days off, so I've got a long weekend, so I'm headed to my hometown for a bit, which has the best retro game store I've ever been to (just opened recently). Hopefully I can pick up something fun, perhaps for my Saturn, which I'll also be recovering from my home.

Re: Miyamoto: Retro Studios is High on The List of Candidates For A New Metroid Game

Clayfrd

Hate to be the guy saying "Oh yeah, well where's the game I want?" but...

"Samus has not had her own game since 2010"

How about "Captain Falcon has not had his own game since 2004."

I'm ready for a new F-Zero, and I think Retro could really do something with it. Even still, give it back to Sega for all I care. I thought GX was great.

Pikmin's last entry was also in 2004, and we finally got the wonderful Pikmin 3. I think it's time for Captain Falcon to step back in the driver's seat.

Re: Poll: Would You Buy Grand Theft Auto V On Wii U?

Clayfrd

Yeah, I'd buy it. I already have a 360 to play it on, but haven't grabbed it yet (just don't have the disposable funds at the moment). If it were on all 3 + PC, I'd probably grab it for Wii U anyway. I'm not crazy about the license buying system Steam has (although I still use it frequently), and the Wii U has the best hardware compared to the 360 and PS3. Easy sale.

Re: Review: Street Gangs (3DS eShop / NES)

Clayfrd

I love RCR, but I really prefer it with a friend! A great gaming memory of mine is spending a few dreary winter hours blazing straight through this with a friend. The cooperative action is top-notch, and the banter you can share with a buddy can help mitigate the repetitive nature of the beat 'em up genre (and turn it into a truly great time). As much love as I have for this game, I have to recommend it on home console release!

Re: New Phoenix Wright: Dual Destinies Trailers Reveal Mature Rating

Clayfrd

@Jaz007 Anyone that prefers games solely based on ESRB rating should reconsider. Buy games because they're good or bad, not because of what they're rated. I don't even look at ratings when I buy games.

Also, people seem to be bringing a lot of baseless conjecture into this argument. I don't think this game is rated M because Capcom was trying to attract the FPS demographic or anything like that. I think it's rated M because the 3DS's hardware is advanced such that truly representing the scene of a murder has now become more realistically graphic. Nothing wrong with that. I don't see the reason to get in a fuss over an ESRB stamp.

Re: Shigeru Miyamoto Emphasizes That New Experiences, and a New Franchise, Are Keeping Him Busy

Clayfrd

I hate to admit it, but I'm constantly flip flopping between wanting new IPs and wanting sequels to abandoned IPs (I lament every year there's not a new F-Zero). Still, one of Nintendo's youngest home console IPs, Pikmin, is also quite possibly my favorite series of all time, so I certainly await this new franchise with bated breath. I just hope it's not another entry in the "Wii" series.

Re: Armikrog Officially Coming To Wii U

Clayfrd

If you avoid art or products made by folks with views you find objectionable, you'll run out of things to enjoy very quickly. John Lennon, for example, was a wife beater and a rather awful father. That doesn't mean his music shouldn't be enjoyed by people. It's sad, and it's awful, but solace can be taken in the good he did provide the world. Likewise, TenNapel's Earthworm Jim has been enjoyed by all kinds of people. It's a shame the man behind it believes such backwards things, but like I said, to boycott people's work that have bad beliefs is tantamount to becoming a hermit.

Re: Miyamoto: Pikmin 3 Has Become "The Ultimate Version of Pikmin 1"

Clayfrd

It always surprises me how few people have played the Pikmin series. Pikmin 1 and 2 are two of my all time favorite games, so to see people missing out on them is a little saddening.

In any case, I basically bought a Wii U so I could play Pikmin 3 day one. I've had it pre-ordered since before it had a release date, and I can't wait for August 4. After 9 years, I'm glad to see a lovingly made sequel!

Re: Poll: Which Wii U E3 Game Has Impressed You the Most?

Clayfrd

So sad how underappreciated Pikmin is. It's a masterpiece of a series and one of the most interesting IPs Nintendo possesses. Maybe P3 will turn things around and people will start to love it, but it doesn't look that way. Still, I'm getting the Pikmin 3 I've been asking for for years, so I guess I can't complain! Just saying folks are missing out.

Smash definitely got the biggest jaw drop out of me. Mega Man in Smash is another thing I've been pining for for years, so to see that desire finally realized is, like Pikmin 3 was, surreal. Smash was already a day 1 buy for me, but I couldn't tell you the last time a trailer got me this hyped for a game.

Edit: I'm also very excited to see DKC:TF. I loved DKCR and think TF looks even better. And to see it's coming this October is great news. Perhaps even more than that, though, I'm really excited for Sonic Lost World. It looks like a real return to supremacy for the series. Colors and Generations were good, but this looks like a game that could actually be something really special. Consider me excited.

Still, despite excitement for any number of these games, Pikmin 3 still wins. Such a special series to me.

Re: Review: Castlevania (3DS eShop / NES)

Clayfrd

@Geonjaha "Don't worry, I'll be there when you're ready for that."

Don't think you could hear me from way up there on your high horse. Guess you win this internet fight. All I was arguing was that the authority with which you present your argument should not be any higher than anyone else's.

Re: Review: Castlevania (3DS eShop / NES)

Clayfrd

It has been a long, long, long time since I posted a comment on this site, but I absolutely have to give a shout out to Castlevania for being the bomb. Everyone please buy this if you haven't (although I'd also probably recommend playing the VC Wii version if you've got a Wii because it's a game certainly fit for the big screen).

Also, @Geonjaha you just threw someone else's opinion at us. I don't consider Egoraptor's opinion worth a whole lot (although I hardly weigh anyone else's opinion when I decide how I feel about a game). You offered up a comedic analysis of the Castlevania series that should carry no more weight than that of this review's given that neither reviewer (ostensibly) has any educational background in video game design. The majority, actually, believes that Castlevania has greatly improved over the years (with the exception of Simon's Quest), and Symphony of the Night has been named the best Castlevania game time and time again (or, if not, Castlevania IV).

Re: Review: Rampage (NES)

Clayfrd

@slapshot82 and Chicken Brutus - I've always liked the series (this game included), but I tried to review fairly and without bias. For anyone who has never heard of this game, it's pretty average. I will, however, be as biased and nostalgic as possible in my dealings with Mortal Kombat, warioswoods .
