Pikmin Hero Captain Olimar Joins The Smash Bros. Roster On Wii U And 3DS

This is awesome now if he could use the new pikmin and possibly the bulborb pikmin.

Would be cool if Kirby could steal abilities from Olimar as well as from Pikmin,,,

Too be honest, I never liked Olimar. Plucking those Pikmins are really annoying. But this is good news either way.

On the Smash Bros website, there is now an awkward place in the bottom-right of the roster... Very unlikely, but maybe another character will be revealed quite soon?

Anyway, Olimar is awesome! Maybe if they don't make him a clone, one of the new captains can have the flying and rock Pikmin (and maybe Bulbmin)? The new types of Pikmin aren't in any of the Olimar screenshots so far.

Good... but honestly, the ones I'd personally really like to come back are Sonic, Pokémon Trainer, Luigi... aww, screw that, just about most of the SSBB roster. Except, maybe, for a few characters like Wolf, R.O.B. and Lucario.

Great news! I thought the new announcements so far were kinda lame but this is back to the right track. I really don't get why they put the AC villager in when that's a completely customisable character and will look different to everyone. Put Tom Nook in there instead!

First of all, Olimar is not a new addition to the character roster. Second, he sucks (IMO). Guess I'll end up using the same 4-5 characters just like with Brawl. Honestly I'm not that psyched for this game, I'm only getting it because all my friends will so I can join them online.

@Aaronzord R.O.B. is a nailed on certainty to be back as not only is he one of the best characters but he's also an oddball Nintendo history character, and Smash is all about oddball Nintendo-isms and Nintendo history.

Ugh. I found Olimar highly annoying, both to use and to fight against. But great for fans, I guess.

@Fazermint First, Nintendolife never said he's "new". Secondly, Olimar doesn't suck, his stats tier is much higher than Mario's strategically. Lastly, if people are being "cheap" then counter it by using "skill".

Olimar is hard to master, but when you do, he's a real joy to play as.

I just wish Sakurai-san wasn't limiting the character roster of the Wii U version just because of the limited capabilities of the 3ds, don't get me wrong I love my 3ds but this game is one of the games I've been waiting for a while and I just want the Wii U version to be as epic as possible with all of it's HD glory.

He's a great guy, but one of our least used characters in Brawl. He deserves to be back for having a new game, even if he isn't featured in it, but he'll rarely be used in our house.

ROB deserves a return for his emotion filled pivotal role in Subspace Emissary. (If I'm remembering it correctly.)

@Fazermint sorry to burst your buble, but as far as the teir list goes olimar is usually in 2nd-4th place as the best charecter (and is always in the teir below the one meta knjght singke handedly has)

What a minute, the white Pikmin are only in 2, right? They won't be in 3? I wish they would update the character a bit for 3....unless of course maybe that's the plan for bringing in one of the new captains as well.

Awesome! I wouldn't say I am surprised, but I was expecting they would announce maybe a "Pikmin Master" type character, which rotates between the three in the new game instead of Olimar. They could still do that though!

I do like Olimar, but I expected him to return so it's not that big a deal. I'm hoping that he will be able to use the new Rock and Winged Pikmin from Pikmin 3 in some way.

I'm hoping that all characters from Brawl return, except Toon Link, Lucario, R.O.B., Ike, Snake, Lucas, Wolf and Mr Game & Watch. I'd love it if they ditched Jigglypuff as well, but that's not gonna happen.

YES! This just made my day. I think they will put louie and president as skins and also have alph with brittany and the captain having rock and winged instead of white's and purple.

@Reploid I don't hate him or anything, just his move-set wasn't very good, imo. Plus, i find him kinda forgettable as a character (i was never a massive fan of the Pikmin games, but i did like 2).

So much hate for ROB. I actually use him a lot. I won't be heartbroken if he doesn't come back, but I hope he will.

@Fazermint @Doma Define how he "sucks". If you mean by how strong he is you'd be wrong since he's listed in the second highest tier for Brawl. Now if you mean as a character (in terms of being memorable) that would be subjective.

I would assume you guys means the latter especially if you actually pay attention to competitive play.

@Ernest_The_Crab Everybody has their preferences man, i never said he sucked. Of course there'd be people who like/use him well, but he wasn't an interesting character for me to use (as i just said; didn't care for his move-set or memorability as character).

And no, i've never once paid any attention to tier lists in Smash Bros. games. Who you're good with depends almost entirely on the you, the player. Not some predetermined stat. Although, i did clearly notice how some characters were nerfed in Brawl - like Ganondorf, he was reduced to pure garbage.

Cool, glad he's back. I'm sure he'll be nerfed on certain things about him, but definitely a fav of mine.

@Neferupitou Luigi probably won't be revealed until the game releases, since he's been a hidden character in all three games. Other hidden characters, such as Captain Falcon, Ness, Jigglypuff, Marth, Ganondorf, and Lucario, will probably also get revealed after the game gets released.

@Doma The "sucks" part referred more to the other person I replied to. Personally, I didn't find him too interesting either.

However, there's a reason why tiers exist despite the thinking that it depends on how "good" someone is at a character. There's a very good reason why Metaknight is banned in pretty much every serious tournament of Brawl.

Game is going to be fun, but I hope that by the time it comes out, that it doesn't look like Brawl 1.5 visually.
Seems like I agree with those who aren't impressed by the game now; I shouldn't have expected much of anything from only 1 year of development.

@Ernest_The_Crab Yeah, i saw how people like to abuse using Metaknight. Personally, i hated him (Reason 1: i just dislike using any of the miniature dudes really. Reason 2: his almost instant movement was so cheap)

I'm so glad he got picked to come back. When Melee came out I was hoping that Olimar would be in the next Smash Bros. so naturally I chose him as my first fighter against my friends.........and lost. I like him but he just seemed to be too weak though he does have unique attacks. They definitely had to bring him back to advertise Pikmin 3 despite him not actually being a main character in that game. I hope he gets Rock and Winged Pikmin to use this time around.

I'm with you, mostly disappointed by the graphics. I'm glad to hear the gameplay will be refined but I honestly expected that. I also expected the announced characters thus far (sans Mega Man but that's not shocking) and the details on modes and such that we've heard.
But it seems this Smash is seriously being rushed out the gate by Nintendo. God knows the Wii U needs a saving grace, but at what cost? It's been only a year of development and they are already showing off screens. I'd rather have waited till next E3 for an announcement, with a holiday 2014 release in order for them to really polish the game before showing it off. I feel like what we are seeing is what we will get.
They definitely used the same engine and many of the same models/animations as in Brawl, it looks nearly identical just HD.
I don't even agree with some of the few changes they made - Mario's more simplistic look works but I've always loved the more detailed take on Mario in the smash games. Link is a mish-mash of TP and SS Link, there are things about him that look like both. I'd rather Nintendo just gone with one or the other. SS Link would look great in HD, but TP Link could've looked like he did in the Zelda HD Tech demo! OR if they waited to show it off till next year, they could've potentially used the NEW Link from the new Wii U Zelda.
Look at how incredible Melee looks to the original. How awesome Brawl looked compared to Melee...and at least it was a slightly different look!
This has rushed written all over it, and it's really too bad, because the singular smash title on each system is always one of the most polished, graphically impressive, and incredibly fun games to own on a Nintendo system.

I didnt use Olimar much in Brawl. But after playing Pikmin i understand him. Hes a very strategic fighter. Much like in Pikmin rushing into battle with him will lead to defeat. I think thats why people dont like him all to much, but im happy. I definintly want to use him more this time around. And
hopefully the Rock and Winged Pikmin are part of his arsenal. If they arnt oh well, but i dont want to see a one of the new captians with them. Theyed all just be clones. No thanks. And for those thinking purple and white pikmin arnt in 3 they are. I dont think they have been officially announced but they have been in game footage. Don't believe me? One of Gamexplain's analysis videos on the game pointed it out. I dont remember which one though.

I found that Olimar and Rob were some of my least favorite characters in Brawl, but it's good he's here because a lot of gamers enjoyed his Pikmin-hurling antics!

He's one of my favorite characters in brawl and I'm finding some people saying that he sucks.
Prepare to be proven wrong as soon as I get this game.

I'm glad he is back, not that I'm great with Olimar, but he was a challenge when you faced someone who is good as him.

@Fazermint well as i'm sure you very well know they are balancing out the character roster this time to make all characters fight equal. so before you keep hating on Olimar think of what might be. Even some people in brawl were very good at using him. Maybe you just were not good playing as him?

@yoshisaredragon I managed to pluck a whole set of fat purple pikman and i completely owned my friends, same for yellow electic pikman too, his diversity is what makes him great.

I expected this. Pikmin gets a lot of love from Nintendo, having a fair number of cameos in games and system transfers. I hope Rock and Flying Pikmin can join, especially the latter, since the throwing mechanic could work differently for it. Also, I like how Olimar now has a whistle attached to his helmet!

I am unsure as to exactly why anyone is questioning the decision of including any of the characters announced so far. Super Smash Bros. has great potential to showcase great Nintendo properties and that should be a major part of the focus of the development team.

Not to say that the game is simply an ad, I have owned every Smash Bros. so far and will probably get this one too, the games are super fun, for sure.

But really, the announced characters all make perfect sense from that perspective: Pikmin 3 is coming out, Captain Olimar is the face of PIkmin - New Animal crossing, add the villager (though I and my wife lament that they chose him instead of K.K. Slider) - WiiFit is a huge franchise for Nintendo - And finally, the fans wanted Mega Man all along. (And maybe they got a big sack of money from Capcom, who knows.)

If they include Sutte Hukkun THEN I will be scratching my head.

How is this game being rushed? They haven't even given a date beyond a very vague "2014" and then again Smash Bros is famous for its delays, particularly Brawl. Wasn't that a launch title for Wii?
