Re: North American WiiWare Top 10

Clayfrd

@Xgen: Good job! You really threw out a top notch product at launch. It's fun and intuitive, and the multiplayer is perfectly incorporated.
@Peznaze: I didn't think those kinds of Wii owners were online either. They are ruining Nintendo! Don't they remember the SNES? When they released QUALITY games (not to mention the only good Yoshi game except for the DS game)?!!

@Everyone: Dr. Mario is insanely good. I went back and played Dr. Mario 64, and I don't think I wasted a cent. The classic mode is about the same, but the online and Virus Buster still makes it worth the extra 10 bucks. That said, Dr. Mario 64 has some cool modes if you can buy it anywhere.
To whom it may concern:
Since I have sojourned in Italy, I have seen or heard 6 instances of the name Mario, two pictures of Mario (one SMB era, one N64 era), and three instances of the name Luigi. I am proud to say that I am nerdy enough to count stuff like that.

Re: US VC Release - 2nd June - Ninja Combat

Clayfrd

@Manicfatty

Neither Microsoft nor Phony will ever get my money! As long as Nintendo cranks out another F-Zero and Mario (ha, yes, another! We haven't seen that since the SNES), I'm staying fantastically fanboyish.

Re: USA WiiWare Update: Dr Mario Online Rx And Family Table Tennis

Clayfrd

That was a nice surprise! I just DL'd Dr. Mario. I was playing, and I accidentally hit my GCN controller and the cursor moved! Hurrah! I wasn't paying much attention to the download screen! I'll probably use the classic GCN pad from now on. I prefer the multiplayer version of Flash online to the traditional version. I'm about 2 and 2. Hopefully with practice I can contend with some people better than I currently am. I actually have never really beaten anyone at Flash. I won twice because my opponent topped out twice! Oh, well. I guess I'm just good at barely surviving. Before I post, does anyone at WiiWare-World mind if I post my friend code? (For Dr. Mario, of course)

Re: US VC Releases - 26th May - Metal Slug

Clayfrd

Hmm. Well, I wouldn't exactly call this a good week. Unless you absolutely cannot find a copy of Metal Slug Anthology, why bother? It's already a budget game, and it includes 7 Metal Slugs! Oh, well. At least we get Dr. Mario! Finally!

Re: Review: Star Soldier R

Clayfrd

This seems addictive in a Starfox 64 kind of way. The gameplay looks short, but the drive to beat your high scores seems to merit a download.

Re: Hudson Interview - Alien Crush, Bomberman, Tetris, Blue Oasis

Clayfrd

I really only want Alien Crush. I love the original, and I would love to see a new table(s). I like Bomberman '93 enough to stick with it. On a side note, I have a better completion time on Super Mario Advance 2 than the Guinness world record holder. Unfortunately, I didn't have any witnesses, full DVD recording, pictures, two witnesses of provable integrity over eighteen, OR a witness that is in a gaming related profession. Jeez, I left all of those in my OTHER wallet before I left the house.

Re: Review: Dr. Mario Online RX

Clayfrd

I'm still sitting on 1000 points waiting for this. I personally love Dr. Mario, and a couple extra features and online justifies the purchase for me.

@Dazza- Your avatar! Why?!

Re: Review: Pop

Clayfrd

@sportymario...- I guess I see what you're saying. I must admit I am a bit excessive in my game purchasing. I am also trying to collect every piece of Nintendo hardware. I don't hold back

Also, I spell Clayfrd with no vowel after f intentionally. Inside joke.

Re: Star Soldier R And Critter Round-Up Hit The USA Today

Clayfrd

I've been having a terrible day... ALL day, and just for that last kick in the cajones, Nintendo doesn't even have the decency to give me Dr. Mario! That was literally the last chance I had to salvage a good day. Fine, Nintendo! Fine! I'll just play SMB3 forever. I'll beat it for the fourth time in a week, or maybe Mario 2? Hmm? How about Pop? Want me to try to shave those 7 minutes off my Advanced time to have my name plastered on people's screens all around the world? How could you possibly expect me to play any other game for even a second longer! Even great games that have only been out for mere days are stale. How could you not see that N? Brawl sucks! You expect me to get more than two months out of a game? Ha! (Everything after cajones was a mockery of other's bitching. Actually the part about Pop and SMB3 are true. I'm an obsessive gamer)

Re: Super Mario World

Clayfrd

I repent. SMW is far better than SM64. It's purely timeless. I still think I might like SMB3 the best of the bunch, but that'd be a tough choice. That said! @Kirk- I like SMW better, but cut SM64 a break! It was Nintendo's first stab at full 3D. It was bound to have some glitches. SMB had plenty of glitches cough koopa on the stairs cough minus world cough. Excuse me. I definitely love SMW, though.

Oh. It turns out I actually played SMW in a hotel some time ago when I was younger. When I downloaded this, I knew something about it seemed fiendishly familiar, particularly the music, which apparently drove my uncle to near insanity. Ha, he hates the music, and I think that it is some of the best Mario music to date. I think that Galaxy easily has the best soundtrack, though. I like the orchestrated classics.

Re: Review: Pop

Clayfrd

@sportymariosonichybrid- Basically what you're saying is that you are going to limit your gaming library. Just because you think one game is better than the other doesn't mean you shouldn't try both! Just because I like Mario 3/Mario World a bit better than the other Mario games doesn't mean I shouldn't try them all! I'd be missing out on great games like Mario Galaxy or the original Super Mario Bros. This game is superb, and just because it doesn't stack up to Boom Blox (pun) doesn't mean it isn't worth unloading seven measly bucks on! I have spent far more than 3.5 hours on this game, and I have introduced some of my non-gamer friends to this game, and I can even get them to enjoy a round of single or multiplayer games. I urge you to reconsider, or else you'll miss out on a lot.

By the way, I finally beat advanced mode! I was only 6 minutes off the international top 10! I got about 63 minutes, and the 10th spot was 57 minutes. Gah! Oh, well. At least I got that badge for playing in a round for an hour. My dad's actually quite (surprisingly) good at this game. He got a better score his first go than I did my first go. He's one of those people that's really good at 2 or 3 games, but pretty bad at all the others. That's a little threatening, but now that I know I can score 9,999,999+ points, I feel I can safely secure my #1 spot on the Normal Mode local leaderboard. I just hope none of my friends dethrone me.

Re: Join The WiiWare World Facebook group!

Clayfrd

I joined for the heck of it. I will probably never have any involvement, but I might! Maybe I'll spread the word about how Pop is EPIC. I'd also like to promote my own video game related group. I don't know if this is lost in translation to other countries, but most of we Americans know of a godawful series of jokes about how Chuck Norris ("Walker, Texas Ranger") is the strongest, sexiest, most powerful man alive. The jokes disgust me, and I personally know at least one man could destroy Chuck Norris. That man is... Captain Falcon. If you happen to agree, join. Otherwise, prepare to be PAWNCHED right through your computer screen. Yes, guy with the Stewie icon, that includes you, even though you were only recently stabbed through yours. Anyway, here's the link: http://www.facebook.com/group.php?gid=12167649543

Re: Review: Pop

Clayfrd

@Juampi- I envy you! I'm not very good at this game! I try, and as I play more, I learn more strategies. I've found that, at least in later levels, the "Nukes" should be avoided. There are simply too many skulls to drain your time. I... must... get better! I actually find advanced mode a bit more fun because it's goal oriented, but I've only gotten about 4,500,000 pts. (about half way). If I put in a few hours this weekend, though, I may be able to secure a spot on the World Wide leaderboard. I haven't gotten to show this game to any friends or family, but I think my sister might like it, just a hunch. I think the "Chill" mode is actually right on its purpose. It actually kind of mellows me out when I just watch an inflated bubble take out a whole bunch of others. I guess that's a little weird.
@thewiirocks- I agree... with your username. I respectfully disagree with your rant. Use a little intuition. It took me a nanosecond to figure out what the sounds mean. A boxing bell means you hit a 2x bubble (or whateverx). That sound effect that happens right when you pop a bubble is the bubble popping (okay, that was a little rude ). The sound effect that you probably hear the most is the sound effect played when you break a chain, that means all of the points from that chain are added to your score. You probably know the sound made when you miss. I'm leaving it up to you to figure out the rest. Sorry for getting a little snappy, but I just felt like you were being a little whiny about a launch title. Also, you mentioned having to use the manual. That's what it's for! I also love Defend Your Castle, and I couldn't make up my mind on which I like better. The only two WiiWare games I have are Pop and DYC, and they're both so good. I am really looking forward to future releases!
@KnucklesSonic8- I hope you get the opportunity to play it some time. It really is a fantastic game, and if you like games with highscore lists, you'll love this. The puzzling is just plain fun, and I believe you mentioned you liked puzzlers, so you really can't miss with this.

Re: Dr. Mario Online RX

Clayfrd

@Objection_Blaster (50) I seriously doubt we'll get Dr. Mario 64 as well. I have Dr. Mario 64, though, and I was saying the sounds were directly borrowed from said game. IMHO, Dr. Mario 64 is the best Dr. Mario, and I hope this is just as good or better. It looks fantastic, and the new controls look promising.

Re: Review: Defend Your Castle

Clayfrd

Does anyone know how to get more options for magic? Is the eraser the only spell? It seems a bit nerfed to cost 40,000 points! I've added 26 men to my magic tower, but I haven't unlocked any more magic. Help! EDIT: Nevermind! I figured it out. Just keep adding wizards.

Re: Review: Pop

Clayfrd

This game is amazing! I love it! I spent a LOT of time playing this. I find it funny that there aren't enough people worldwide to even compile a top 10 list for advanced mode. I tried, and I didn't even come close. I love the badges; I love everything about this game! For the record, I am 826th in the world as of now. That was after my first try. Thank you nnooo, This game is absolute perfection! I could play this for hours! This is far better than Tetris, but so is Dr. Mario. That said, this easily competes with Dr. Mario. I absolutely love this game!

Re: Defend Your Castle

Clayfrd

Okay. This game looks great, but Xgen, where's Stick RPG 2? I would proably ante up 2000 points if you released that on WiiWare!

Re: Dr. Mario Online RX

Clayfrd

This game seems to borrow a lot of sound effects from the relatively "underplayed" Dr. Mario 64. That is a good thing, though. I highly anticipate this, and I can't wait to play some Dr. Mario online.

Re: Pop

Clayfrd

I love high score based games, so I look forward to purchasing this. I'll try to climb the leaderboards as quickly as possible! Since I finally beat SMB3, I can devote my time to destroying everyone's high score in Pop.

Re: LostWinds

Clayfrd

@Bass XO- You have to remember that some people don't have credit cards, like children. Wii Points cards also make it easy for someone to give the gift of Wii Points even if they don't have a Wii.

By the way, I may hold off on this one. I'd prefer Dr. Mario for the points.

Re: Super Mario Bros. 3

Clayfrd

WOO! I finally beat it. This marks the day that I have officially beaten all of the home console Mario platformers! Just for kicks, I went back and beat it as Luigi (using warp whistles). What a fantastic game.

Re: Welcome to WiiWare World!

Clayfrd

@DJ Triforce- It could be! I beat SMB2 for the first time not too long ago. It could even work as a real life occurance. Shy Guys exist in several Yoshi games, so some of the dream's occurances are canon. The best part would be New Super Mario Bros. 3. We could finally get another go at the Tanooki Suit!

Re: New name for Dr. Mario WiiWare

Clayfrd

@Kelvin- Do MegaVitamins contain the cure for the common cold? I forgot... I think I read that somewhere.

I may have to hold out on Lost Winds and get this. Sigh...

Re: Welcome to WiiWare World!

Clayfrd

This is totally unrelated, but who thinks that N should make a New Super Mario Bros. 2 based on Mario 2? Anyone? It would be interesting to see sequel to a game that was not only a dream, but barely a Mario game!

Re: Pop

Clayfrd

I'm getting 2000 points soon. Since I have 200 points left over from my last shopping spree, I can sqeeze Pop, Defend Your Castle, and Lost Wiinds (pun) out of my card. Nice. I hope I can still compete with all of you even though I may not be able to purchase Pop until later this week!

Re: North American WiiWare launch games

Clayfrd

I'm tired of all the complaining! I'm looking forward to playing Lost Winds and DYC. I anticipate Dr. Mario, but I understand the delays just like I understood Brawl's! Come on, people! Relax!

Re: Introducing WiiWare World - Reviewers Wanted

Clayfrd

@Dazza-
"We’re not asking that you are expert reviewers or masters of the English language." Was that a directed sentence? I actually have a grammar correction that I have decided to withhold for this article. I would love to review for you, and I have written several very long reviews for GameSpot. My Pikmin review was almost two pages in ten font and single spaced. I tend to ramble... Unfortunately, like Slangman, my Wii is also only online once in a blue moon. I look forward to the WiiWare reviews, and I hope you get some top notch journalists.

Re: Playtest: The Shaft Virtual Console joystick

Clayfrd

@Dazza- Easy! I might just have to correct your morals! You ought not to stereotype! As you know, we Americans have a very clean history in terms of treating others equally. Alas, that is not true. Many of my fellow countrymen probably couldn't tell Mario from one of "those dern tuhrrists." Perhaps I am not helping my country's image by bashing it. That said, let it be known that not every American is as corrupt and "ill-advised" as our President!
I would also like to suggest that you improve your grammar if you want to continue being an internet journalist! I suppose I will have to let you off with a warning. I have been called "The English Language Cop" by a few of my friends and relatives, by the way. The main reason I am letting you off with a warning is because you seem to be awfully busy. Almost all of the recent articles have been written by you, unless I am mistaken. I believe I will have to correct my own mistake! My parallelism is awful! How could I change from active to passive voice like that? I digress.

I do not intend to be rude. Keep up the good work, and continue to keep us posted. By the way, have you heard about the next Mortal Kombat? It looks atrocious! Look it up if you haven't already. MKII would be a good game to use with the Shaft.

Re: Playtest: The Shaft Virtual Console joystick

Clayfrd

@Dazza-
In sticking with tradition, I'd like to correct you. "Well I am a little rusty so I would say I did pretty good..." should say, "Well*,* I am a little rusty*,* so I would say I did pretty well." It's all in good fun! Anyway, the shaft looks very nice. Perhaps I can slip a birthday hint to someone... I would really like to play F-Zero X with it. Have you tried plugging it into a GCN?

Re: US VC Releases - 5th May - Pokemon Puzzle League

Clayfrd

@Dazza- Ha. I have a thing for puns. All of the horrible puns I've made up in the past are so atrocious, horrid, ugly, and just plain terrible that they don't deserve to be said. One only laughs at my jokes if one is laughing at me. I will only tell one on request because they are so awful.

Re: Nintendo Channel for Wii now available in North America

Clayfrd

@Atlantis1982- I'd just like to mention that I have 34 VC games, 4 of which are N64, and I also have every Nintendo channel released except for THE Nintendo Channel. At that rate, it is VERY difficult to manage my memory well, especially since most of the games I'm currently playing are N64 games (most of the rest are SNES, but I'm also playing Kid Icarus and SMB3). Also consider Brawl's whopping 120+ blocks of memory. It is hard for me to handle my memory "more better" than everyone else. Fortunately, I got a ten dollar SD card that can hold all of my VC games and then some, so I can shop freely.

Re: US VC Releases - 5th May - Pokemon Puzzle League

Clayfrd

EarthBound Mother's Day release. That is VERY clever. That little pun may redeem you from using exasperate incorrectly, or I may just choose to never let you live that down. No, I'm not that mean. I choose the former. In all seriousness, though, I am currently in high anticipation for EarthBound. Pokemon Puzzle League is actually quite good, but I already have it for N64, so I'm not stupid enough to buy it again. I mean, I've never done that before... cough Paper Mario, Mario 64 cough. I'm surprised I actually had this week's N64 game. I had a pathetic collection back when the 64 came out. Of all the 64 games on the VC, I didn't have: F-Zero X, Sin & Punishment, Ocarina, 1080, Wave Race, Starfox, or Cruis'n USA. I now own all of the aforementioned on the VC except for 1080, Wave Race, and Cruis'n USA. I am completely satisfied with all of them, especially F-Zero and Starfox. I like Ocarina, but all the hype I heard about it before I bought it in mid-2007 kind of killed some of the amazing parts of it. Sin & Punishment is collecting virtual dust in my Wii because I buy too many VC games at once. That and I've been playing Mario too much.
