I might give this one a go later when it's cheaper. I just got Lego Marvel for $10 from a recent eshop sale and while I had fun with it and enjoyed it enough to complete it 100%, I felt it was still a bit underwhelming in some ways. I'll agree with other voices here, Lego City Undercover is my go-to comparison when playing new Lego games; that was just way too fun. It also had some drags, like the loading screens and the combat. But overall I enjoyed it tons more than any Lego game before or since.
It's also worrying to see new Lego games still struggling with button inputs and mapping. You'd think they try to use other than 3 buttons to do so many different things. I don't think I even used the triggers on my Wii U when playing Lego Marvel.
Why is the big daddy from Bioshock such a prominent figure in that image? The first Bioshock was an Xbox 360 exclusive game and nothing about those games is iconic to Playstation.
I've also spotted several other characters that don't make a lot of sense there except to populate the screen and make it seem more impressive. Not that I don't like the Playstation, but it still seems a bit off to include them.
I just had the chance to watch Frozen a couple weeks ago and I didn't like it that much. It's a gorgeous-looking movie, but that's no praise these days. The plot was incredibly nonsensical; almost all conflicts could've been easily solved by talking instead of being dramatic. That said, I can totally understand why it's so popular with kids; and I almost pre-ordered the Elsa nendoroid that's coming out since it looked so cute. But it included the snowman, and I hate the snowman character with a passion.
@hcfwesker I know for sure the Link factory error is real. I have a friend who works at a game store and he told me he saw, just like your listing, a Link amiibo without the red crest on the shield. It was gone by then, but I don't think he was lying.
I bought a Wii Fit Trainer because according to this same friend's info, it'd be a rarer figure to find at a later date. With amiibos such as Mario, Link or Pikachu always being in supply. So what I'm curious about is how much would "low rank" amiibos, the ones they're supplying the less, are going to be selling for in a few months. I am using my amiibo, so it's out of the box, but I do wonder how high their prices might go with time.
I'm considering Lego Marvel and Darksiders 2 for $10 each. Although both are apparently known to be riddled with bugs so I don't know if I'd like that.
Midna looks delightful, and Link in that postman outfit is downright bizarre. What about that Ilia model? A skin for some character (Zelda?)? Or an actual character? Looks like a very fun DLC pack.
Nice review. Nothing I didn't quite know about the game or would sway me from buying it, but a good read to hype things up even further. Holding off the numerical score for the online component is a good move. Hopefully it'll be better than on 3DS. I had no problem with 1v1 fights, but when it came to free-for-all matches, I hardly had a match with no lag. Although I'm not sure how much of the guilt is on one of the player's connection.
Also, it seems you skipped to mention that bonus mode where you could sample a video game from one of the many franchises. I had honestly forgotten about it, but Sakurai retweeted something from the Smash account that mentioned it. And didn't they said stages would be shareable? Or was that the pictures from that photo mode with trophies?
Not hugely tempted by any of these games but I could use a Wii U VC game to get an extra $5 from the DDP, and Pilotwing is the better of the two options so I'll go with that. And Tokyo Crash Mobs always caught my attention; I kind of liked Zuma the few times I got to play it and I like the presentation of this one, so I might as well go for it and spend the rest of my coins.
After a long time, back to 0 coins. I don't think there'll be anything worthwhile on december, but if there is I still have Bayonetta 1 and 2 to register, I'll register Smash Wii U for the soundtrack, and I'll probably get Captain Toad, so I can rack up enough point for another reward if it were to show up.
I was gonna go with going out and buying it on release day, but since I can preload it so early and having digital games in my Wii U is very comfortable, I'm getting it digital this time, just like I did with MK8.
Having digital games on my Wii U makes it a breeze to play on the gamepad while I'm on my bed since I don't need to get up to change discs, and late at night I can just turn off the console and sleep since I don't like to leave discs in the console overnight.
Wait... this will delete my replays?! Nuts. I guess I'll do a shaky cam recording with my phone to save them. I have a couple golden moments saved there that I want to keep.
At least I know beforehand that this update will kill my replays so I have a way to preserve them ahead of time.
People seem to be taking this a bit too seriously. Yes, it's an exaggerated ban; but it's clearly a bug. Surely it wouldn't take -too- much time to solve if people being affected by it contact Nintendo about it. It's as if this is the first time anyone ever heard of a bug in a video game.
@Yosher Figures. I haven't delved too much on the alternate moves. Don't see much point to them when I can't even use them online.
Palutena particularly, I can barely see any point to it. I want to use her on 1v1, but her default moveset is awful and there's no way to use an alternate one.
Wait. Near the end of the video, there's a bit with two Mega Mans (Mega Men?) and the Yellow Devil. The red Mega Man puts out the leaf shield but the leaves are red with yellow spots, and the blue Mega Man has this bird-looking thing with Mega Man's helmet. Are those alternate moves?
What I wish they talked about was if there was a way to unlock characters on the Wii U version if you have them unlocked on the 3DS version already. That would be handy to just go straight to the core of the game when it's out.
Oh well, this reveal was a big surprise. I'm sure many had already abandoned their hopes of having mewtwo in considering the amount of pokemon representatives. Hopefully they won't be all smug about it "Hah! Told you he was in!" and all that. And regarding the fact it is DLC, and that DLC is a thing in Smash... well, duh. That's the way things are now, like it or not. At least I feel like Nintendo is doing it in moderate amounts and at a very good price-content ratio.
@Mega719 It's not unfair, it's just how things are. You have the same game, both in a home console and portable console; the home console will be the better version overall.
It's not like the Wii U version existing takes any of the excellence that the 3DS version is already.
@Grumblevolcano Ah, bummer. Well, switch that game in my post with Bayonetta 1, since I didn't got the game for my PS3, so I'll be enjoying the definitive version of it.
But the Wii U IS a next-gen console by definition...
It's funny that they talk about not wanting to cheat gamers with a lesser version of the game because that seems to be what they're doing by locking both versions with the same framerate and resolution. Not that I even care about stuff like that because, as smug as it sounds, I play video games to have fun.
I guess I'll have to play Hyrule Warriors or Bayonetta 2, or Smash for Wii U, or Captain Toad, or the well-made DLC for Mario Kart 8 instead of playing a sub-par AAA "experience" this holiday.
I admit to being one of the many skeptics when there were rumors about Pac-Man being in the roster, but after seeing the reveal trailer and better yet, having experienced how he plays, I'm happy to say that I'm definitely keeping this yellow guy as my main fighter. Pac-Man is just a very fun character to play as, and can pack quite a punch. Duck Hunt is also up there for me (again, after being a skeptic), but Namco's eternal mascot keeps the top spot; at least for now.
Also, it seems the way to get characters is a bit weird. My first three characters were Falco > Ness > Dark Pit, in that order, after playing Classic Mode once for each character. But a friend of mine got Falco > Ness > Dr. Mario after doing the exact same things I did. Another one got Lucina instead of Dark Pit or Dr. Mario, so who knows. I got the rest of the characters by playing Smash matches on my own. Every 10 matches I got a new character.
@snoox I'm not sure the gamecube controller will be compatible with many games besides Smash. It lacks the clickable sticks, one shoulder button and the - button.
The review still assumes anyone going in still thinks they're gonna play a normal Zelda game. I'd question the intelligence of ANYONE who still thought this was a regular Zelda game and not a spin-off. Since the moment they announced it they said this wasn't a normal entry in the series, yet every single time the game comes up someone says something akin to "This is such a weird departure from the Zelda series!".
It's a good review, and 7 isn't a bad score for this kind of game; but I still feel like the game's been held back because "it's not a typical Zelda game" when it was never meant to be that.
Is this the regular playlist for all versions? DLC not included? If that's the case, it's a pretty good number of songs... even if I only know 5 or 6 of these. I think I like the playlist for JD 2014 more than this one, so I have no reason to get this. I'll take advantage of the price dip the last version will take once this one comes out.
@rrpi I'm pretty sure the "comments" section of an article is for comments about said article, not for begging for codes for a demo that's coming out to the public in just a week anyway; for a game that comes out in 3 weeks.
@SonicSimmer And I hope they don't abuse DLC too much, but I wouldn't count that much on it. It's possible they'll show up later that way.
One thing I was bothered by was the small cast when compared to Pirate Warriors 2 (another Warriors spin-off I had been playing lately). But then I realized by reading the description of Link... each weapon for the characters that have more than one, can count as a different character judging by how different they would play. In that case, the amount of playable "characters" goes from 13 to 20. Pretty decent, after all.
Honestly, it's not much of a problem in the long run, but people will make a big deal out of it considering Nintendo's history of lack of online multiplayer in games.
I'll have to tone down my opinion on this trailer, and the way they're handling the series (it is now), because there's some restrictions in this place regarding language.
It's all a load of garbage. Utter garbage. The trailer kills any kind of character the original designs for the character had, and the new crowd-funding for english voices is ridiculous considering the amount of money they raised in their original kickstarter.
Maybe Kamiya was right. Inafune is just a businessman, not a creator.
I bought this because screenshots looked fair, didn't got a below-average score and had a spare buck lying on my eshop wallet. Turns out this is a fun little game well worth $1. It's a bit lackluster on small details, for example; it would be nice to be able to switch sound effects and just have the music, be able to navigate the main menu with the control stick, or give some use to the touch screen during play, at least as a way to quickly pause or something, maybe use it to store that power boost thing and activate when we saw fit. Still, the presentation is great, gameplay can get tough yet remain fair due to solid controls, in-game achievements can be an incentive to some people, and feels just at home on the 3DS. An "easy to learn, hard to master" game perfect for small bursts.
I'm liking it much more than other super cheap options on the system, even when I've never been much of an endless "runner" kinda guy. Still only getting A ranks, thou, haha.
It's nice to have yet another wardrobe change for Bayonetta, even if it's (fittingly) a palette swap of Peach's dress. There are other, better characters that could've had their outfits featured, thou.
It'll always be a mystery to me why so many care so much for a character with literally zero personality. Granted, I'd like to see her featured in a proper game and see if Nintendo does anything to differentiate her from Peach. But since her first appearance, Daisy's only character trait is being the other "normal" girl character in Mario sport, party and kart games. And even that spot's almost usurped by Rosalina, who actually has a developed personality...
I'll only CONSIDER Watch_Dogs on Wii U if the game we get is no different from the other consoles' in terms of graphic quality and game content. I'm also at least expecting some interesting gamepad functionality. Anything less than that and Ubisoft won't get my support anymore on any console.
Mario Kart 8 on the other hand... I may have a to wait a couple of weeks, but it's an obvious purchase.
@Bizzyb I kind of see the comparisons to R.O.B. since it was a toy, and Ice Climbers since I never played the NES game so I don't know what their abilities were. But you cannot seriously compare Pac-man to Little Mac, Snake and G&W. Little Mac is a boxer, you can give almost any other boxing move you can think of, plus more fantastical stuff; Snake is a soldier, endless supplies of weapons and his CQC; G&W had a ton of games where the character did something different, something his Smash Bros.-self does.
Like I hypothetically asked before: tell me what does Pac-man do beside eating pellets. I'm sure if Sakurai decides himself to add the character he'll work out something fun, but for now you canot tell me Pac-man is an "obvious" choice.
It really baffles me how adamant people are about wanting Pac-man in Smash Bros. That said, of all the suggestions I've heard, him showing up in the Mokujin mech would be the best. It looks funny enough and kinda includes a Tekken character too. Anything other than that would be pretty boring, honestly. When comparing to Mr. Game & Watch, another simple character from a similar time period, at least he had more variety in its games that allowed them to give him an interesting moveset, without taking away from him as an icon. Who knows what Pac-man does in his games other than eating pellets? Just how many people have played Pac-man games other than the original and the Championship edition? (Which is the same, just flashier). The Mokujin mech would allow him to have a unique moveset that wouldn't take away from either him or Mokujin himself, and would feature both of them in Smash.
Maybe I just don't know much about the event, but since when is PAX so relevant? Isn't that a convention by the penny arcade guys? Why is it such a mind blowing disaster that Nintendo is missing it?
That original plan sounds way more interesting and fun than the final product. I played the first infamous game for several hours and never really enjoyed it. The characters were horrendous and unlikeable, the story dull as heck, and bad illusion of choice. The combat was kinda fun for a very short time before the novelty of electric super powers ran out. I did liked the "surfing on the train tracks" ability, thou.
An Animal Crossing-type game where you can become a super hero at night, unbeknownst to your neighbors, sounds hella fun.
Political correctness is ridiculous, even more so in a gaming news website. As long as it's not downright insulting, I see no problem with the particular depiction of a character, male or female. Specially in this case, considering how well-developed the girls are in this game (pun intended).
All this discussion is doing is make me want to go back to play the game even more, and I might as well just do that.
Nice, the announcement trailer caught my attention so I might get this soon. Only thing stopping me is not knowing how many blocks of memory it uses. Perhaps that information could be included it on the game's info sidebar?
Dangit. Just a couple weeks ago I ordered the Animal Crossing posters right before they disappeared, and now these pop up. I'm missing around 150 coins, so I don't think I'll be able to afford these... again. If only I hadn't redeemed Pictobits (although I am liking the game, so it's okay).
Some of these comments read as if they were written by a friend of mine who's out of contact with the modern world. He doesn't notices a single difference between a video clip in SD and in HD, or knows what an iPad is.
Mario Galaxy looks really beautiful in HD; and it's true, the developers intended for the game to be in SD, but that's because of their limitations back then. If this same game was made today, they'd focus on taking advantage of the HD and making the game pop out even more. Take a look at Wind Waker for example: made with the Gamecube limitations in mind, but it looks gorgeous with an HD coat. True, both WW and MG have aged really well visually, but wanting a pretty game to look even prettier shouldn't even be up for discussion.
That said, I'd love some sort of HD remake of at least the first Mario Galaxy on the Wii U, but it's very unlikely we'd ever get one with Wii mode implemented on the console already. Also, I'd rather have Nintendo focus their people on new projects... or Smash. Yeah, just hurry up on Smash Bros., will ya? At least give us the official title.
@Funny_Moblin No, I'm saying that as long as the game's art direction is as good as the rest of the Zelda games, I don't mind the end result. Whether it's similar to WW, SS, MM or TP.
Most people screaming for basically Skyrim with a triforce just want a "gritty and realistic" game for the sake of it. They don't want memorable characters or interesting worlds, they just want "realistic graphics" because it's the cool thing to do in video games nowadays. You know? The kind of people that back in the day (or some even these days) shunned Wind Waker because "it looks like a game for kids".
Sure, I'd love a Zelda game with a realistic art approach in full HD. But I'd also love if they went for something similar to SS again, and took advantage of the Wii U's power to fill the world to a brim with life and personality.
However the game ends up looking, I'm won't doubt of Nintendo's 5-star quality across the board to deliver something amazing. All I hope is that for this one time, they forget about all the hand-holding they've been doing these past years.
I just pre-ordered the game. Excitement levels went higher and higher the more they showed off this tittle on Nintendo Directs and trailers. Getting this on friday and will play it with a friend all weekend long, if things work out.
Now, a bit off-topic from the review, but t I just wonder what's the average age of all the people that want a "realistic" Zelda compared to the ones that just want good art design?
The movie blew my mind. Despite the great reviews, I seriously did not expected the movie to be just THAT good. Among my favorite movies ever, hands down. I love lego games, and although the lack of surprise, when it comes to the script, will be a bit of an issue, I'll pick up this game later. Donkey Kong's got priority, but this is second on the list..
Well, this is much better than I expected. The morse code chat is really clever and adds a layer of challenge to the game which requires a fair bit of strategy already. Everyone fails to mention the presentation during the fights as well. With the lower screen showing the "driving panel" of the sub and nothing but the shouts of "fire!" every now and then, it's really easy to get immersed during the battle.
Definitely worth the free download, and if the multiplayer is still populated in a month or so, I'll go premium.

So the "big" enemies we've seen (that dude with the Volvagia armor and Cia) aren't playable? Bummer.
Re: North America is Getting the Limited Edition of Hyrule Warriors
GAH! For a second there I thought I'd be able to upgrade my pre-order or something, so much for that.
Re: Poll: Is Online Co-Op a Major Miss in Hyrule Warriors, or is Local Multiplayer Enough?
Honestly, it's not much of a problem in the long run, but people will make a big deal out of it considering Nintendo's history of lack of online multiplayer in games.
Re: Rayman Trophy Revealed For Super Smash Bros. On Wii U And 3DS
Travis. Touchdown.
Re: 3DS System Update 8.0.0-18 is Now Live
I guess all these updates explain why no one can topple over the 3DS in sales. Hohoho.
Re: Video: Mighty No. 9: The Animated Series Gets A Slick Teaser Trailer
Re: Review: SKYPEACE (3DS eShop)
P.S. Pure best Skypeace.
Re: Princess Daisy Costume Confirmed For Bayonetta
Re: Poll: A Tale of Two Blockbusters as Mario Kart 8 and Watch Dogs Arrive This Week
@SuperMikey I will still only consider it, getting it later when it's cheaper. Ubisoft delayed the release? I'll delay my purchase.
Re: Poll: A Tale of Two Blockbusters as Mario Kart 8 and Watch Dogs Arrive This Week
Re: Feature: Bandai Namco Characters We'd Love to See in Super Smash Bros. on Wii U and 3DS
Re: Feature: Bandai Namco Characters We'd Love to See in Super Smash Bros. on Wii U and 3DS
Re: Nintendo Passing on PAX East 2014
Maybe I just don't know much about the event, but since when is PAX so relevant? Isn't that a convention by the penny arcade guys? Why is it such a mind blowing disaster that Nintendo is missing it?
Re: Infamous Series was Originally Inspired by Animal Crossing
That original plan sounds way more interesting and fun than the final product. I played the first infamous game for several hours and never really enjoyed it. The characters were horrendous and unlikeable, the story dull as heck, and bad illusion of choice. The combat was kinda fun for a very short time before the novelty of electric super powers ran out. I did liked the "surfing on the train tracks" ability, thou.
An Animal Crossing-type game where you can become a super hero at night, unbeknownst to your neighbors, sounds hella fun.
Re: Soapbox: Ignoring The Objectification Of Women In Games Won't Make the Problem Go Away
Re: Review: Pokémon Link: Battle! (3DS eShop)
Nice, the announcement trailer caught my attention so I might get this soon. Only thing stopping me is not knowing how many blocks of memory it uses. Perhaps that information could be included it on the game's info sidebar?
Re: The Link Between Worlds Poster Set is Back on Club Nintendo
Dangit. Just a couple weeks ago I ordered the Animal Crossing posters right before they disappeared, and now these pop up. I'm missing around 150 coins, so I don't think I'll be able to afford these... again. If only I hadn't redeemed Pictobits (although I am liking the game, so it's okay).
Re: Video: What Could Super Mario Galaxy Look Like In HD?
Re: Review: Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze (Wii U)
Re: Review: Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze (Wii U)
I just pre-ordered the game. Excitement levels went higher and higher the more they showed off this tittle on Nintendo Directs and trailers. Getting this on friday and will play it with a friend all weekend long, if things work out.
Now, a bit off-topic from the review, but t I just wonder what's the average age of all the people that want a "realistic" Zelda compared to the ones that just want good art design?
Re: Review: The LEGO Movie Videogame (Wii U)
The movie blew my mind. Despite the great reviews, I seriously did not expected the movie to be just THAT good. Among my favorite movies ever, hands down. I love lego games, and although the lack of surprise, when it comes to the script, will be a bit of an issue, I'll pick up this game later. Donkey Kong's got priority, but this is second on the list..
Re: AE Games Reveals Mad Men Football, High Impact Gridiron With "An Historical Twist"
I don't know...
AE? Mad Men? Photoshop-looking logo? It smells too much like a ruse to me.
Re: Free-To-Play Title Steel Diver: Sub Wars Breaks The Waves Today On The 3DS eShop
