Re: Feature: SEGA's Astonishing GameCube Rebound Following Defeat In The Console Wars

Borngis

@AtlanteanMan You mentioned Sega's failure when it comes to localization, but I don't think there's any worse offender than the Sakura Wars series. It's what let the Saturn keep its launch momentum (resulting in it outselling the N64 in Japan) and managed to shift at least 100k units on the Dreamcast (in Japan only) in 2002, 2 years after the PS2 came out, and yet Sega either couldn't or wouldn't localize the series at all until NISA took a shot in 2010, to localize a game made in 2005. And this is even worse since the PS2 era for the series was Built Around getting an international presence.

Re: Chrono Cross Is Getting A Remaster, And Boy Does It Look Rough

This may be a bit controversial, but I do actually agree with the headline, though only to a point, and with the caveat that this will probably be the best remaster from Square-Enix for a PS1 game. I find PS1 games to look atrocious when given a render resolution bump, and while the ability to use the original assets is incredibly appreciated, it doesn't mean much unless we can have it rendered at a low resolution too.

As for everyone saying that the FF7-9 remasters look like this too: you're right! It's why I basically only recommend the PS1 versions (though FF9 has some good mods on PC).

Re: Sega's Splitting Its Amusement And Video Game Divisions, Triggering Rumours That An Acquisition Is Afoot

Borngis

If anything this just screams to me that the amusement division might be on its way out for obvious reasons. It wouldn't be impossible for SEGA to be bought out, of course, but honestly the only really surprising thing about this move is that it didn't happen earlier.

Honestly I really hope no one buys SEGA but if it means a Sakura Wars HD Collection I certainly would budge easily.

Re: Soapbox: Grinding Is Poor Gameplay Design That Doesn’t Respect Your Time

Borngis

the only game ive ever really disliked the grind for was pokemon pre-gen 6

in basically any other rpg ive played where grinding is something i even do im doing it for an optional thing that i dont need to do at all or because its ff7 and that game is just absurdly fun to me

i dont say 3d platformers are inherently bad game design cause some of them have combat mechanics

Re: Feature: Best Visual Novels For Nintendo Switch

Borngis

Starting the list with Dream Daddy and not including The Grisaia Trilogy or anything from Key (among other excellent VNs) should be a crime, I think.

I'm still waiting on a Muv-Luv port, but that probably wouldn't happen until at least the mobile port.

Re: Random: The Last Of Us Director Admits He's A Nintendo Fan In Podcast With Reggie Fils-Aimé

Borngis

It's a shame that The Last of Us II is... that because there's very much stuff worth criticizing it for (especially with regards to the conditions during development), even when it comes to LGBT topics. Meanwhile there are lots of people that attack the game simply because it includes LGBT characters and because they think its too "woke", and people like Druckmann have used that to paint everyone that criticizes TLOU2 as a bigot.

Honestly though my biggest gripe with the whole debacle is that Druckmann had the audacity to defend a reviewer... comparing it to Schindler's List. And got mad when people said comparing it to Schindler's List was awful and stupid.

Re: Soapbox: This Little Plastic Disc Has Enriched My Animal Crossing: New Horizons Experience

Borngis

I prefer using and getting amiibo legitimately, even if its through secondhand sources. That being said, I hold no ill will towards using a device like this even if the cards were easy and cheap. You don't owe Nintendo money, at least not for the cards.

That being said, I'd rather just be able to choose villagers. I'm not an Animal Crossing guy, but I might be if my village was Scoot, Bob, and Apollo.
