Nintendo has been recycling and re-selling Wii U content for Switch and Switch content for Switch 2. That said, give me faithful remakes of Ocarina of Time and Majora's Mask. Those games are old and the 3DS versions are not perfect.
@sdelfin A fridge that stopped cooling and freezing after two years and a washing machine that broke a few months after purchase. Both top-tier models. We have bought three OLED TVs, C9, C1 and G4. The C9 and C1 had their panels replaced because of tons of dead pixels. The G4 also has some dead pixels after one year, but I'm waiting since this model has an extended manufacturer guarantee.
@sdelfin Great comment. By the way, interesting that you mention the lack of quality of LG products, because despite great aesthetics, lthe only expensive appliances that broke too early in my family's were all LG.
It's a GBA port of Rare's SNES classic Donkey Kong Country 3: Dixie Kong's Double Trouble! — a good one! Really not much else to say about it, to be honest. Good game is good. Next!
Well, let me say then that this is the only GBA port of a DKC game worth playing along the SNES originals, because it adds an additional world and has new music by genius David Wise.
@ToniK Yes, ghosts are persistent in this series, and some come back, but the battles are all different and the location changes the strategy and, more importantly, the more you play, the more upgrades you find. I usually only use the weakest types of film (ammunition) to get more points as that makes battles longer, and end the games having a lot of powerful and unused film. Then, I unlock stuff with my points, play in a higher difficulty mode and try to complete the ghost list.
There's also a lot of mysterious lore that is explained by the files you come across, and the puzzles are more interesting than in other horror franchises. These two elements along the exploration is what makes Fatal Frame so special.
My New Nintendo 3DS still is as good as new, except the battery which makes sense after so many years and is easily replaceable. My Nintendo Switch OLED, however, has had all kinds of issues. Just the other day I had to hire someone to replace the USB port. This is the first time in my life I need a USB port to be replaced, anyone else here? The battery is still fine, but when its life is over, I'll need to hire someone to replace it. I also stopped using the joy-cons because of extreme drift and now I use the Moba Pad M6 HD, thanks to someone on NL that recommended it. I can use it as joy-cons, attached to the console and also attached to the official grip after removing the sides. Anyway, thank you EU for these laws.
@ATMVF @rvcolem1 The combat is very satisfying. It's not gory, but the danger is real. The horror Is also subtle and psychological instead of being a blood fest. That aside, they are beautiful games with a lot of frightening yet believable lore.
@Picola-Wicola Yes, I understand and respect that. When you upgrade the camera, the battles are much faster and easier. It's great for a second playthrough in a harder difficulty setting and for getting additional ghosts. The demo is not enough material and looks rough, but that's all that is available right now. I can't wait for a DF video comparing all versions.
@Picola-Wicola To be fair, there are difficulty options in the Fatal Frame games and you can unlock and pick upgrades up that make things much more easier if you wish so.
@roy130390 Right. Besides Resident Evil, the horror genre had been abandoned in terms of high-profile releases until the resurrection of Fatal Frame and Silent Hill.
@JohnnyMind I think that they will release patches for all systems and maybe a performance mode for the most powerful ones. I remember that they improved the remasters of Maiden of Black Water and Mask of the Lunar Eclipse with updates.
@OmnitronVariant The biggest difference is that Pokemon Pokopia was built for Nintendo Switch 2 exclusively, while Fatal Frame II: Crimson Butterfly Remake does not have a last-gen version, so the Switch 2 version is the result of downgrades on the least capable system of the generation.
I'm just glad that it's being critically acclaimed. I hope that it sells well across all platforms, so they remaster or remake the first and third entries.
@the_beaver I understand. I got it for Xbox Series X. According to the tech experts, despite Switch 2 having a few modern features, the output results in terms of resolution and performance are usually on a par with last gen consoles.
I honestly recommend Fatal Frame, formerly known as Project Zero in Europe, and I hope that enough copies are sold across all platforms, so we can finally get 1 and 3 remade or remastered! I pre-ordered this on Series X.
@MagGnome Right, but the topic is the Switch 2 version compared to the others, so it's not surprising that posters are comparing technical details such as performance and resolution, regardless of the Switch 2 being technically a tablet, as everyone knows.
@OrtadragoonX Unreal Engine 5 can do amazing things even if you are a small or unexperienced developer. As you suggest, it's not a light engine with light features, yet most developers want to use the most advanced and taxing features. I don't like that, because performance should come first.
I watched the two DF videos. They compare the Switch 2 version with the last-gen version of Resident Evil 4 Remake. Capcom did an excellent job on all consoles, considering the graphics, but Switch 2 is what it is. On Switch 2, the deal breaker in my opinion is the frame rate, which is a solid 60fps on Series S. I'm looking forward to the rumoured Code Veronica remake, in between.
@romanista The PAL version of Animal Crossing (GC) doesn't have The Legend of Zelda, but I got The Legend of Zelda: Collector's Edition from Club Nintendo, only 1,000 copies were distributed in Europe! I only played the N64 games there. The first time I beat the first game was on 3DS. It's a nice way of playing NES games and there are restore points.
@batmanbud2 Yeah, I have The Shake Dimension, but I wasn't thinking of it, but the GB titles. The Wii entry has beautiful hand-drawn animation. Don't get mad!
@lyle_catcliffe Wario Land 1 is my favourite Wario Land. It has the most appealing graphics, gameplay and, most of all, the best music. I don't want to write "in my opinion" in every comment 😂. I have it physically, but I also have the unofficial DX/Color release that is awesome and which I play sometimes on 3DS. The Virtual Boy entry is not bad and it's the best Virtual Boy game, definitely.
SNES was such an amazing console, with games like A link to the past, Super Mario World, Yoshi's Island and Super Metroid. Games that are still great to this day.
I could not agree more. The SNES is an amazing console. I consider Super Mario World the best Mario game and Rare's Donkey Kong Country trilogy the best DK games. I still have the original PAL model and also a hacked SNES Mini that is very cool because it's 720p 60Hz unlike the original PAL systems that are all 50Hz. There are many ways to play SNES games, but the SNES Mini feels so right.
The first one I played was Ocarina of Time, which still is the most "perfect", in my book: story, narrative, characters, gameplay, music, atmosphere, content... The other two I love are Majora's Mask (original) and Twilight Princess HD. The first (and only) time I beat the first entry was on 3DS via Virtual Console. I find 3DS a perfect system for NES games because of the screen size and resolution.
On the one hand, they are offering a purchase option. On the other hand, it's an overpriced GBA re-release of two separated and similar versions, with no option to play if you are already subscribed. Where is the "fun" in that? It sounds sarcastic in this context.
This is opinion that I'm not in the mood to debate online.
I only replied because you quoted me, and I commented because I find it weird that only a few people complain about paid resolution patches and other anti-consumer practices. We Nintendo fans are quite the suckers, with that I agree.
@headmold I didn't know. I buy third-party games for Xbox since Wii, but isn't it worse when the owner of the platform that don't pay commissions nor royalties does it?
Only Nintendo could charge their fans for a resolution boost. By the way, I just realised that all the news are about Nintendo Switch 2 patches. Literally, all of them, except the rumour about a port of Monster Hunter Wilds for Switch 2.
@TheFox The hardest version is the DSi version, with the cropped screen. After beating that, I feel entitled to play with all the enhancements (cheats) of this new release. 😁
@PersonaTexas I buy third-party games for Series X and I'm very happy about it. I bought Assassin's Creed Black Flag for Wii U when it launched, and it was really a slideshow, so never played it. Since we talked here, the internal memory of my Wii U started to fail, sadly a common 160-0103 error, so I had to do something else besides the cold boot Haxchi. I installed ISFSHax and RedNAND, which lets you use the SD card as internal storage. Then, I installed Aroma because why not once I had done all that. Now, my Wii U is safe again. I don't know how you guys feel about it, but one thing I enjoyed immediately is how much nicer the Wii U user interface and fonts are compared to Switch, which I've never liked in that sense. Besides, there are some games that still are better on Wii U than on Switch.
@Sonicka I loved Metroid Prime 2 the first time I played it on GC and even got 100%, but replaying it on Wii, I realise the biggest difficulty is the dual world with no guidance, which is interesting but can be quite frustrating depending on the execution. I still think that it's a great sequel, but it's overwhelming without a guide. The disproportionate amount of backtracking with enemies respawning was not as much fun the second time.
Metroid Prime is more balanced and the best 3D Metroid overall. I played Super Metroid on SNES Mini for the first time and I believe it's the best 2D Metroid.
The video (6:42) confirms what I posted a priori about handheld mode performing (in terms of response time) and looking better on Switch OLED because of the bad screen of Switch 2.
@SuntannedDuck2 Agreed. Sonic Frontiers does open world very well. More importantly, it fixes controls, camera and gameplay which, with the exception of Generations, have not been done before in a Sonic 3D game. It only lacks Sonic themes and enemies that only appears in the levels. Next time, Sega should try doing a proper Sonic world.
@PersonaTexas Before reading that you mentioned it, I was going to reply that it's sad that Metroid Prime 2 & 3 Remastered have not been released. The fourth entry runs on the same engine as the remaster of the first game. It's disappointing that there is 1 and 4, but not 2 and 3. It's not like Nintendo has a lot of shooters to offer.
@Qwiff We really don't know that because the Switch 1 version was unavailable to reviewers. Bear in mind that there is a 120fps mode on Switch 2 and that the game was developed for Switch 1 originally. DF will post another video comparing the two versions that I'll watch because it will make the differences clear. The comment you replied to was referring to the bad quality of the Switch 2 screen mentioned in the DF video of the Switch 2 version.
@SuntannedDuck2 In some ways, it reminds me of the open world of Mario Kart World. It's funny how much hate Ubisoft gets when they do this thing one million times better, including Nintendo's most significant efforts Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom in the comparison, but like you say, it's as simple as that it doesn't belong in here.
