@Sonicka I loved Metroid Prime 2 the first time I played it on GC and even got 100%, but replaying it on Wii, I realise the biggest difficulty is the dual world with no guidance, which is interesting but can be quite frustrating depending on the execution. I still think that it's a great sequel, but it's overwhelming without a guide. The disproportionate amount of backtracking with enemies respawning was not as much fun the second time.
Metroid Prime is more balanced and the best 3D Metroid overall. I played Super Metroid on SNES Mini for the first time and I believe it's the best 2D Metroid.
The video (6:42) confirms what I posted a priori about handheld mode performing (in terms of response time) and looking better on Switch OLED because of the bad screen of Switch 2.
@SuntannedDuck2 Agreed. Sonic Frontiers does open world very well. More importantly, it fixes controls, camera and gameplay which, with the exception of Generations, have not been done before in a Sonic 3D game. It only lacks Sonic themes and enemies that only appears in the levels. Next time, Sega should try doing a proper Sonic world.
@PersonaTexas Before reading that you mentioned it, I was going to reply that it's sad that Metroid Prime 2 & 3 Remastered have not been released. The fourth entry runs on the same engine as the remaster of the first game. It's disappointing that there is 1 and 4, but not 2 and 3. It's not like Nintendo has a lot of shooters to offer.
@Qwiff We really don't know that because the Switch 1 version was unavailable to reviewers. Bear in mind that there is a 120fps mode on Switch 2 and that the game was developed for Switch 1 originally. DF will post another video comparing the two versions that I'll watch because it will make the differences clear. The comment you replied to was referring to the bad quality of the Switch 2 screen mentioned in the DF video of the Switch 2 version.
@SuntannedDuck2 In some ways, it reminds me of the open world of Mario Kart World. It's funny how much hate Ubisoft gets when they do this thing one million times better, including Nintendo's most significant efforts Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom in the comparison, but like you say, it's as simple as that it doesn't belong in here.
@TerribleTerabytes I'm not sure if anyone else 100+ comments later replied, but DF posted that Switch 1 review code was unavailable, so we can expect a proper "mini review" and comparison between the two versions any moment now. I'm curious about that version, that will likely look better on Switch OLED than the Switch 2 version in handheld mode.
@PersonaTexas At least, it's better than Federation Force. 😅
@BrokenCiv It's like charging twice for the same game on the same platform (Super Mario Galaxy 1 version 1 and version 2 with an additional story chapter and song). I don't know why Nintendo gets away with anything they do to their fans nor why some of them still defend anything they do, no matter how anti-consumer it is, while having double standards when referring to other publishers' practices.
It's sad how divisive this anticipated entry is and I think that Retro Studios having different staff has something to do with it, along questionable choices like the meaningless open world in a linear game and poor handling of the characters and story. I bet that this is new and shiny now, but won't top any Metroid rankings in just a few years.
I'll still get it, though. I have been waiting for this game since the year that Switch released and Metroid Prime 4 was announced (2017 🤣).
@The_Nintendo_Pedant Marvel vs. Capcom Fighting Collection doesn't have that problem because it was developed by Capcom. Same for Capcom Fighting Collection 1 & 2. Street Fighter 30th Anniversary (by Digital Eclipse) is better on PC than on consoles and it's awful on Switch.
@Fighting_Game_Loser Right. I've heard that Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: The Cowabunga Collection (by Digital Eclipse) also has noticeable input delay.
Digital Eclipse never fixed the input lag in Street Fighter 30th Anniversary, released seven years ago. It's worse on Switch but there's also on Xbox, the two versions I got. Not online but offline, too. If they did it again, let's send them a message (don't buy).
@MamaSymphonia Yes. The soundtrack of Team Sonic Racing is much better. Besides, the audio mixing of Sonic Racing Cross Worlds is awful, at least in the demo. It can't be fixed in Settings because it's dynamic. I think it's a great game, but needs technical improvements.
I completely agree with the three cons in this review and they are quite important. I also don't consider them traditional platformers, but action games where you spend a lot of time hitting enemies and rocks and travelling. I prefer the style of Super Mario 64 and Super Mario Sunshine, but these two are quite intense and generally good.
Besides, the Wii Remote not only is much better as a pointer, but also more comfy and with better buttons. It's a shame that Nintendo don't support older controllers when Switch also uses Bluetooth.
@daftgear On what platform? I started playing them on Gamecube, but I have all the Xbox releases now. If you still have your Wii, you could also play The Umbrella Chronicles and The Darkside Chronicles that are great as rail shooters. My piece of advice, don't stress trying to beat all the Resident Evil games quickly. Take your time.
Oh and to those that like psychological horror, don't forget that the next Fatal Frame game is out in early 2026!
I'm happy for those that want to play third-party games on Switch 2, but the same was said about Star Wars Outlaws on Switch 2 and DF's Direct explains that it has lower resolution, lower frame rate, simpler geometry, missing assets, lower-quality textures and a noisy image compared to the Series S version. We need to wait and see how Resident Evil Requiem compares to the other versions.
It seems that publishers are starting to leave PS4 and Xbox One behind, perhaps because of the ray-tracing features of this generation, so Switch 2 getting current-gen games is remarkable. How long this support will continue and its results is something we still don't know, but it doesn't look that great.
@OrtadragoonX Solid choice. Super Mario Bros. 3 and Super Mario World are still the best. Those geniuses working hard at Nintendo back then made two masterpieces. One of the reasons why I think Super Mario World is on top is because the physics and controls are the best in the whole series.
@Yoshi3 That's why Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom are my least favourite The Legend of Zelda games, on top of the story also being grinded to fit in the structure or rather lack of structure. I think that the success of Switch and these open world games modelled Mario Kart World for the worse and, to a certain extent, Metroid Prime 4. Yes, Metroid Prime 3 has bigger areas than 1 and 2, but these open segments look shoehorned.
@mercilessrobot Flat plane is exactly what it looks like, so I wouldn't say that this is an open world game either. I also agree with @Jimmy_G_Buckets, it makes more sense to use the spaceship, so they should have copied Starfield and not the sand surfing of Gears 5. Finally, another third important and somewhat preventive point made here is that by @StuTwo because Metroid Prime is more about isolation and tension and that's exactly why I think that the trilogy is awesome.
Surely, the AI-updated cobblestones texture deserves twice the price its cost on Wii U. Seriously, I can't believe that a game is released for the second time on the same console and, presumably, there is no update available for one of the releases and the save file can't be shared. Only Nintendo could do something like this. Moreover, these prices are for remakes or at the very least a properly remastered port, not for upscaled emulation with very basic additions.
Twice as much as on Wii U is insane. Nintendo became too confident because of the commercial success of Switch, but it's obvious to me that they no longer are the wonderful company they once were, and that their priorities are milking fans as much as they are willing to tolerate and release new content as slowly and expensive as possible, with DLC and upgrades as a big part of their current strategy, on top of the very expensive prices and relatively limited and uninspired content. Like someone said on another thread, they are taking the worst things from the other big publishers, while losing what made them special.
"We remember back on Wii U Virtual Console when these were re-released at the discounted price of £8.99 before going up to £17.99."
Right. And that included Metroid Prime Trilogy. Super Mario All Stars on SNES was also incredible value, so Nintendo became reluctant to re-release it until that special Wii edition. 🤦
@Yoshi3 I agree with the whole comment, from Nintendo being greedier than ever to playing Virtual Boy games on Red Viper for 3DS. The highlight for me is more Fatal Frame (which is multiplatform). The Virtual Boy's trailer is the most shocking thing I've seen in a while. If at least they had remastered the games or added more than one colour... It's not like it has 100 games.
@WaveBoy @MARl0 The poor graphics that some people here are referring to might be the Switch 2 version or Nintendo Direct's compressed feed, but this is not an exclusive and there are PC, Series X|S and PS5 versions. There is no last-gen version, so the Switch 2 version is the least powerful version in terms of graphics. You can watch the high-definition trailer below if you change YouTube's settings. There is a disclaimer at the end: the footage is taken from an in-development build, so it's not as polished as the final product will presumably be.
@ToniK I think that I and III are likely, on the new engine. At the end of the day, they bothered to translate, fix the glitches and remake a Wii game for modern platforms with Mask of the Lunar Eclipse.
@Yojimbo Exactly. It's the first time that the series is named Fatal Frame outside America. I love the Fatal Frame name, but shouldn't they rename the current-gen remasters now?
@DTfearTheBEARD You need the original Xbox indeed to play the enhanced versions of the first two games, or a Wii to play the previous remake of 2 (America didn't get it), with III The Tormented being stuck on PS2, emulation aside. I hope that every horror fan supports this release so we get the others as well. It's my favourite horror series because it's not about weapons or gore, but about the narrative, files, environments, sounds, characters and the addictive and rewarding camera combat.
What? What? What? I can't believe this. This is the best news of the year for me! People really don't know what I'm feeling right now, I'll update the Official Thread.
I wonder what they'll do with III The Tormented, the title that they're skipping for now.
@AstroTheGamosian With the joy-con or touching the screen in handheld mode. I think there is a way to get them with the pro controller. None of them feels as intuitive as the Wii Remote.

Like others have said, Orta is amazing at 4K, 60fps on Series X. I haven't played the originals, but the updates applied to the remake fixed some of the issues. I hope that the second remake is faithful and polished. They made a good remaster of Donkey Kong Country Returns, except for omitting the original developers. I haven't tried their House of the Dead remakes, I think that the Wii entries serve me well with the Wii Remote on Wii/Wii U, although the first game is missing.
