Re: Nintendo Expands Switch Online's N64 Library Next Week

Banjo-

@HammerGalladeBro I agree. Banjo-Tooie is more overwhelming than Banjo-Kazooie, but it has a lot of great ideas, some of them previously discarded because of storage and time limitations. It requires the player's dedication, but I don't think it's like Donkey Kong 64. Donkey Kong 64 is a prototype version of the open-world collectathons we are so used to see these days, so it was innovative in that sense 😅. Donkey Kong 64 is literally bloated because you need to replay each stage with each monkey if you want everything, while Banjo-Tooie is complex but unique. I also agree with your post on Time Extension, that I think I read back then.

Re: Nintendo Expands Switch Online's N64 Library Next Week

Banjo-

@Don Exactly. It's a shame that Nintendo does not want to do the same. I find it even more egregious because Nintendo did not create Diddy nor anyone but Donkey, specifically the old version, not the current version, which they threw away and whose new version they thanked Rare for in the credits of Mario Kart 64.

Re: Nintendo Expands Switch Online's N64 Library Next Week

Banjo-

@Mgalens @Beaucine Love to read you again on these topics. Yes, the Xbox 360 remasters are not just backwards compatible on Xbox One and Series, but they are part of Rare Replay and, like the other Xbox 360 titles included, have the native resolution upgraded (to 4K on Xbox One X and Series X).

@MikeP I agree about NSO, I'd rather play games I own in other ways. Fortunately, Rare's games play great on Xbox, just the Donkey Kong games are missing.

Re: Nintendo Expands Switch Online's N64 Library Next Week

Banjo-

@JAPBOO The Xbox remasters are definitely better. Comparing the two N64 titles, Banjo-Tooie is quite complex, the characters split up occasionally, the worlds are more interconnected and some objectives are tricky. Banjo-Tooie is more difficult to navigate and complete than Banjo-Kazooie, but that also expands its longevity.

Re: Nintendo Expands Switch Online's N64 Library Next Week

Banjo-

It's nice to see Microsoft and Nintendo cooperating, but I still want to see Diddy Kong Racing on both platforms. Since Nintendo owns Rare's Diddy, I hope that Nintendo is able to yield for once, especially considering that Donkey Kong 64 has Jet Pac and Microsoft has allowed Nintendo to keep releasing the game whole. Moreover, a remake would be nice. Diddy Kong Racing is better than any Mario Kart. I can't help seeing this as a way-one relationship. I have never expected to see MGM and Danjaq greenlighting before Nintendo. I always thought that Goldeneye 007 would be the game to be in limbo forever, but here we are.

@Ulysses Actually, the building mechanics in Nuts & Bolts are infinitely better than Tears of the Kingdom's. 😅

Re: Round Up: The Reviews Are In For Super Mario Party Jamboree

Banjo-

@HeadPirate I also agree with you. If the reviewer doesn't like the game, genre or platform, it's going to affect the review and vice versa, and the review becomes pointless. What I find more disappointing is when I read a review searching for information, you know, actual information, and don't find anything, just someone complaining or praising and trying to sound important, but not explaining nor defining anything!

What I'm finding more insightful lately is user reviews and comments. Sure, you get fifty 10/10 fanatics and fifty 0/10 haters, but skip those and you find a lot of details about the gameplay, the mechanics, the technical performance, the soundtrack, the voice acting, the difficulty and what kind of difficulty (cheaply designed or interesting and challenging?)... Things that have helped me a lot when I was hesitating and that I didn't find in the "professional" reviews.

Re: Round Up: The Reviews Are In For Super Mario Party Jamboree

Banjo-

@HeadPirate I don't trust most reviewers these days (PJ included), but the chosen adjective ("slightly") is hilarious.

In my experience, very few are not biased and they don't even write what I want to know. It wasn't like this before. Now, I just watch some gameplay, try if I can and then buy, but a 5 or a 10 doesn't affect my decision. The name of the publisher and the brand of the console influences the score too much. I say 5 because 99% of video games are rated 5 or higher, unlike films, so a 5/10 video game equals roughly 1/10. Anyway, a score these days is anyone's opinion. I have had enough Mario Party, but I hope that those that haven't played enough enjoy this!

Re: Rumour: Nintendo Might Be Gearing Up For A GameCube Controller Comeback

Banjo-

Owning the original systems and the Virtual Console titles (GC physically only, but still), I wouldn't rent roms on NSO either. If I didn't have four GC controllers in perfect condition, I would buy one of the new, too.

It's possible to dump your GC games on Wii, and play them without piracy on Wii and Wii U, and even use the original GC controllers through the official GC adapter that Nintendo released for Wii U and Switch.

Re: Rumour: Nintendo Might Be Gearing Up For A GameCube Controller Comeback

Banjo-

@-wc- I would say that Switch is Nintendo's least reliable console ever and also has the weakest exclusive catalogue. Of course, my opinion. I enjoy more their previous content and consoles.

Totally. The Wii controllers use Bluetooth, like the Wii U pro controller, but none of them are compatible with Switch; not to mention the full-priced Wii U ports. Nintendo has become way too greedy.

Re: Random: Nintendo's Museum Might Be Emulating SNES Games On Windows PC

Banjo-

@Mortenb My first comment says "possibly". What you say it's also possible, but it's not the most logical thing to do if the emulator runs on Linux; but that's just a tiny part of why I think that Nintendo is hypocritical. They are using an emulator on Windows. In a real museum, Super Mario Wold would be running on SNES and emulation would be explained as a way to preserve games.

Re: Random: Nintendo's Museum Might Be Emulating SNES Games On Windows PC

Banjo-

@LuigiBlood "You just proved to me that you don't know how programming works."

Another tag and another personal accusation based on your prejudices. I made a video game when I was a teenager, it's on my profile. What you say doesn't make sense, using their own emulator on Windows instead of Linux when their emulator runs on Linux. You can believe whatever you want. In any case, stop tagging me or I'll report/block next time. I'm here just to express my opinion, not to endlessly reply to your ill-tempered comments.

Re: Random: Nintendo's Museum Might Be Emulating SNES Games On Windows PC

Banjo-

The problem is that Nintendo is using Windows emulators, possibly made by video game fans (as far as I know, Nintendo's emulators do not run on Windows), for advertising their brand in their pseudo-museum (and for selling ROMs that they downloaded, if you remember the Virtual Console controversy), while suing everything related to hardware emulation, even though it's not illegal, not to mention stalking fans for using Nintendo's imagery. If some people still can't see the hypocrisy and how little Nintendo cares about anything but money...

Re: Random: Someone 3D Printed The Rumoured 'Switch 2' Design

Banjo-

@brunojenso Very nice comment I can relate to. Those were the days when I was in love with Nintendo: SNES, N64 and you are right, Gamecube wasn't that innovative, but it has some games that impressed me deeply. It was a perfect combination of top-notch hardware and controller (SNES, N64, Gamecube) and software what made Nintendo so special and that's their golden age. Wii is fun and has better controllers than Switch, but then Nintendo started to get greedier and commercial. The masterminds were not as involved in software development, new staff started making games, e.g., the awful New Super Mario Bros. 2 and Nintendo outsourced most of their projects. That's probably why I prefer 3DS and Wii U over Switch, because they are more connected to that glorious past. When I got the SNES Mini, I couldn't believe how comfortable that controller still is for 2D games, after all these years.

Re: Random: Someone 3D Printed The Rumoured 'Switch 2' Design

Banjo-

It's a really interesting video although this must be the fastest language in the world. It's telling how influenced by other gaming handhelds this model is and I mean the massive difference in power between the already dated in 2017 tablet and this. I can't help wondering if Switch would stay for eight more years on the market if it wasn't for them. Kidding, kind of. I also consider a bit too late to try to emulate the Wii Remote properly and that's something that Switch should have done. Is Wii Sport scheduled for 2025, for a fourth time? Call me crazy but I'd still play the Wii version on Wii (U) with a Wii Remote if I feel like playing. I'm not sure how to feel about this. I haven't enjoyed Switch as much as the previous Nintendo consoles, including 3DS and Wii U, but mostly because of the software compared to their past catalogue, so I guess that it has become the most important part to improve when it comes to modern Nintendo, even more considering they used to have separate home and handheld development teams.

@Astronautwithanitch Switch XL or Switch XXXXXXL? 😜

Re: No, The Metroid Prime 4: Beyond Trailer Was Not Running On 'Switch 2'

Banjo-

@Edu23XWiiU Yep, 3 was bigger. I'm sorry to say that I didn't like Other M in spite of looking forward to it, but it has some impressive graphics. I think that the best-looking Wii game is Resident Evil The Darkside Chronicles, Monster Hunter Tri not counting on-rails games. GC has more stunners: Metroid Prime, Resident Evil 4, Wave Race, Twilight Princess, Luigi's Mansion, Super Mario Sunshine... GC was an amazing console.

Re: Review: Perfect Dark (Nintendo 64) - Perhaps Not Perfect, But Still A Remarkable Achievement

Banjo-

Congratulations @JonWahlgren on this wonderful review made by a real player (in 2010). I hadn't read it until today.

I also agree with @dartmonkey's opinion. Goldeneye 007 is my favourite, too, although my only problem with Perfect Dark was no map in bigger environments.

In both cases, it makes a huge difference playing the Xbox remasters. By Goldeneye remaster I mean the one that was released unofficially and runs on Xbox 360/Xenia and, obviously, the Perfect Dark remaster available on Xbox 360, Xbox One and Series S|X.

Re: No, The Metroid Prime 4: Beyond Trailer Was Not Running On 'Switch 2'

Banjo-

@Ooccoo_Jr The developers explained how they spent a lot of time after rebooting the first project, working on the bosses' graphics and the third-person camera. They weren't absolutely sure about the final result because Nintendo didn't like the first attempt, but they achieved a great success not just in the graphics department, but the sound and controls. They made a very smooth game and even the 3D platforming was decent. I miss when Nintendo had high-end hardware.

Re: Soapbox: Metroid Prime 4: Beyond Won't Be The Franchise's 'BOTW Moment', And That's Okay

Banjo-

@Spider-Kev Metroid Prime was an optimal 3D translation of Metroid, just like Ocarina of Time of The Legend of Zelda. 😊

@Arminillo Indeed. BotW is a Wii U game that was delayed one year to make the Switch port, confirmed by Nintendo. I also found that comment weird because not just it's a Wii U game, but Switch is not much more powerful than Wii U, just different mobile technology that was already dated at launch.
