It’s an extra £2.91 a month. Two pounds and ninety one pence. It’s hardly mega money is it? Straight away so many people were saying it’s far too much but it’s time to take a breath and actually look at it again. Yes, NSO has never been the best service but for the games I will be playing then I will pay £2.91 extra a month. Personally I thought it would have been have much , much more of a price rise. As it is, it’s fairly low and nothing to really go over the top about with the complaints.
@scully1888 As I say, it’s clearly a matter of opinion. I’m just surprised about the lag and control issues. I’ve played the game again since reading the review this morning and the I issue I have is with the stupidly long loading times. The graphics are clear and crisp and there simply is no lag at all. The cars handle really well and the controls respond fine. In my opinion the game isn’t worthy of a 7 at least.
Surely the obvious answer is that worldwide, Nintendo will release a Switch only SKU, ie minus the dock. It’s not inconceivable that’ the Switch will have successors like the DS range but a standalone handheld different to the switch after 3DS lifecycle ends seems improbable. The full focus needs to move to Switch otherwise within 2 years , Nintendo will be back to square one again and that cannot make economic sense.
Analysts get things wrong. But if Reggie is going to say that they only ever show games due out in 6 to 9 months, he should consider the fact that he is contradicting E3 last year! M4 and Yoshi still not out or close to being out! Yoshi looks like an update if woolly world anyway so not sure that game is taking so much time. From the glimpse we saw last year, it didn’t look to be something being built from the ground up. Fight back by all means Reggie but maybe think before saying things that fly against what is happening!
We will no doubt see a Nintendo Direct in September or October where you would expect maybe a couple of big game announcements. My concern is the lack of any notable 3rd party support for the Switch. We were told Switch would suffer in the same way that the Wii U did but E3 has not given us much. Rabbids expansion, Trials and FIFA 19 being the only ones of note. Nintendo might play things close to the chest but a lack of 3rd support could damage the Switch lasting more than 3 years.
So we still get the rubbish app? And it look so like just NES games! You can play retro NES games for free with a retro box these days so it’s not a great appeal although taking classics on the road is fine. But most of those classics I’ve already got on my 3DS. Cloud saves will be good and the price isn’t too bad but overall it’s a very disappointing start.
Nintendo are back! The Switch is great, the online play is pants and the rewards are a bit poor. But in all seriousness, the system is going from strength to strength, more quality games are incoming so, a few hiccups are forgivable. Surely?
In addition to PAC Man 2 championship edition and Bayonetta 2 which is outstanding and soundtrack mind blowingly good, I am also setting off in Resident Evil Revlations 2. Perfect weekend.
Price is good, just need plenty of decent games. But the app needs dropping. I use it with Splatoon 2 and it’s not great. Plenty of time to sort it for September.
@DEZn00ts No tears here. Forums are places to share views. I’ll post when I want to cheers unless you are an admin and want to stop it. Other than have you ever considered that you are simply an oxygen thief with no brain 🧠 or ability to communicate on an intellectual level? 😜
@DEZn00ts You’re giving your own opinion or hadn’t you noticed? I am a Nintendo fan but that doesn’t mean you can’t say certain things could be better and express those views. Just because NL is a fan site doesn’t mean you have to be a happy clapper and become a fanboy! Being a fan means enjoy the system, the games from Nintendo. It also means you can talk about things that could be better! That’s what forums are for...opinions and views and we don’t have to agree. Nobody forces you to reply or to read my comments. What is sad is that you keep replying because your life is sad and you have nothing else to do.
@DEZn00ts I totally agree with you. Those that thought and in certain cases ddid not want Switch to succeed are too worried about looking stupid by now realeasing games for it. We may lose out on certain games but ultimately it’s their loss.
Another game that there should be no reason to not come to Switch. The trouble is that now it’s making money maybe Capcom can’t be bothered. Hopefully that won’t be the case and 3rd parties will continue to bring AAA games.
It makes sense that they didn’t produce the game with Switch in mind but it’s odd that they would not port the game considering the success of the Switch. It would be easy money for Capcom so unless they have another game for Switch that they want to develop maybe they are just fools?
I can’t see any reason why most games wouldn’t work on the Switch. Of course there will be graphical sacrifices but I wrote an article recently about how playability is STILL the most important factor in whether a game is any good. It can look as beautiful as you like, look as realistic as you like but if the game doesn’t play well it simply doesn’t matter about the rest of it in my opinion. Dark Souls will be great and is another franchise that will not only be great to play on the big screen, but also a fabulous game on the move. After all, the fact you can take brilliance on the go is one of the Switch’s biggest draws.
I see no reason why GTA V, Star Wars Battlefront and the like can’t come to Switch. They may be expensive due to limited storage but the fact is that Nintendo have made the Switch simple to design games for and to port to, WWE 18 being a very rare experience of this not being case but that is down to sheer laziness from the developers rather than any issues with the console itself.
Dark Souls is just one game in what is a growing pantheon of framing greatness on Nintendo’s wonderful hybrid. Bring on the big guns!!
It looks fun and it’s Nintendo opening up to all ages which is their mantra after all. If it takes off then maybe we could see more ingenious designs. Cardboard guns. Wii accessories but in cardboard. It’s certainly something different although the idea that this will be the thing to give Switch a great second year is an odd statement. The only thing that will do that is quality games.
It was great. Perhaps a little on the safe side but that’s not an issue. The lead up to the Switch’s 1st birthday was always about keeping momentum going and I fully expect some more surprises as we approach March and then E3 this year could really blow everyone away. Yes it was a sensible Direct but plenty to get saving for!
I will buy most of these. The majority of release dates are pretty soon which is great news. I would say the direct was safe but I have no problem with that and it just means the next direct, possibly in March , will be even more exciting. More great times coming!
I’d like see ARMS given a real promotional push in the UK. It’s far too good to sit so far down the charts. It’s original and a brilliant Nintendo IP. It really should be up there as one of the games of last year. The more you play the game the better it gets. C’m on Nintendo UK- get it publicised with a big New Year push.
Writing off Nintendo is never sensible. I have always said that both Sony and Microsoft have huge technologies to fall back on and maybe their risks are less risky than Nintendo’s will ever be. The Wii U had some great games and the controller was a good idea in essence but it was poor marketing and also either complacency or naivety that led to its ultimate downfall. Nintendo were never going to try and fight back on a power scale but looked at the handheld market and consoles and saw a gap that could be filled in between the DS family and the powerful console. They listened to the fans and heard that the gamepad was okay in essence and could be a platform for something much better. And the Switch is that very something much better! Nintendo perhaps took their eye off the ball beween Wii and Wii U but boy have they answered their critics! Bring on the Nintendo Direct and I’m expecting surprises and more quality gaming for the years ahead. What will be interesting will be what happens after Switch. Will it become more powerful and grow like the DS series! Time will tell. Welcome back Nintendo.
Nintendo in some ways has already done the hard bit by getting Switch off to a flying start and banishing the commercial failure of the Wii U to distant memory. Now comes the next stage and they need to make sure that the stellar games of the last 9 months are the start of bigger and better things rather than a disappointing damp squib. Smash Brothers is a must and a sighting of M4 is surely coming next week?! I would love to see a decent driving sim too. Ridge Racer anyone? I’m confident that 2018 will be another great year but Nintendo be warned, some are waiting for you to slip up so don’t let it happen! And above all else, sort out the online gaming!!!!
Great piece. I don’t feel that exclusives are the be all and end all for Switch but they would certainly help to get Switch out to a wider market and it’s something that Nintendo can control if they choose to. Nintendo are not exactly known for admitting to mistakes and so much is right with the Switch. However, 3rd party exclusives could do to be nailed down and online functionality definitely needs sorting out as well as wireless headphone functionality! And proper wireless headphones not the current set up which is pointless. 2018 promises to be another great year for Nintendo and the Switch but it also needs to be the year that the little niggles are ironed out to fully push the little power house even higher!
I’m sure everyone has noticed that those that were cagey about Switch are now jumping on board! And quite right too. When Nintendo do it right they really do get it right!
As a Switch owner I have no concerns about its future at all. If EA jump ship then it will only be what we expected. EA burnt its bridges with N fans a long time ago and that’s why their sales are not great. I bought FIFA 18 on Switch and it is a brilliant version in its own right but many N fans have ignored because they simply don’t like EA any more. It’s a sad state of affairs as I’d love to see battlefront on the go but alas probably not.
Switch is already a calculated success and hasn’t even been out for a year yet. There will be another year in 2018 of great exclusives, Nintendo IP, new and old I suspect and 3rd party support not to mention the growing library of superb indie games that suit the System well.
No worry needed and in a few years time I’m sure Nintendo will beef up the Switch without any silly names and we will have Switch 2.
Got it and it’s great. Perfect for the Switch. Loving it in between Mario, Zelda, ARMS, Splatoon 2, kid Tripp............not bad for a System with no games!
I really had high hopes for the Switch but Nintendo have delivered something better than I could ever have wished for! I started to playing Doom tonight on my TV and was blown away. The version is superb and when I then took it out of the dock it was still so damn good! I don’t think I have ever bought as many games as I have for the Switch in a consoles first 8 months. The fact it is not even a year old is unbelievable. The Wii U was a disappointment despite having some quality games but Nintendo have got it so right this time! Rather than fighting the other two, Nintendo have once again done there own thing and the future is only going to be even more exciting as developers get used to the box of pure magic.
Am excited for Rocket league and LA Noire but where are the reviews NL? Both have been out nearly 3 days and neither game has been reviewed. I always wait for your reviews before parting with my cash so what gives?
Compromises? Of course there are! But it’s awesome!!! It’s doomed to succeed!!!!!!! Even in tv it’s bloody good for the tech it’s on. GTA anyone? Come on!!!
I’ll wait for the honest NL review. I didn’t expect it to look amazingly alongside the PS4 and X box one X versions but it doesn’t be look that bad on it’s own. I doubt it will be any better than Mania.
This article is crap. I have a wireless headset. I read this and acquired a USB - C adaptor and a Bluetooth transmitter. Set it all up. Does it work? Does it bollocks! Once you have a c adaptor and dongle there is no reason it won’t work. Nintendo need to sort their [removed] out with this and NL could do to ex,Ian why their article actually talks utter [removed]! Back to wired headphones.
I have wireless earphones and a usb - C adaptor. What else do I need to get connected? My headset didn’t come with a Bluetooth dongle but I assume that’s all I now need?
The ad line for Nintendo Switch really does need to be: how many games can you handle? My wallet empties so quickly due to so many bloody fabulous games!!!
Firstly, this is not surprising news. It will be interesting to see in another 2 weeks if sales do jump but the problem is that many Nintendo fans just don’t like EA and haven’t for a long time now. They feel that EA have ignored them so they are doing the same. This is a real shame because there are EA games that would be fabulous on the Nintendo Switch but if FIFA sales stay low, we will not see them. EA will just say we told you so and off they will pop into the Nintendo wilderness. Once more. But where with the Wii U, EA’s departure was followed by many more third parties walking away, I don’t see that happening this time. Too many Indies love the Switch and third parties know they can have success with Nintendo.
Having played FIFA 18 solidly since last Friday , it is a great game. The graphics are good, animation is solid and it plays a great game of football on both the big screen and on the go. It is certainly the best portable FIFA and if EA stick with Nintendo , it can improve in the future.
Ultimately though, for EA, their long term commitment will be based on sales of this game. So far it looks like another EA vs Nintendo stalemate with EA unlikely to hang around for the penalty shoot out.
Well, I got home and there it was on the mat. FIFA 18 for Nintendo Switch. There have been lots of comments, comparisons , moans, groans and excitement. I have seen the game first hand before playing it and was already impressed. Yes, it misses certain things, not least a decent online offering, but I always loook at Switch games in their own right. And why do I do that? Because although people will compare against PS4, XBOX one , that is rather pointless. Nintendo didn't bring out the Switch to compete with them. Anyway, after an hour of playing FiFA 18 on the Switch I can say it is brilliant. Yes, there are visual differences but as a gamer of many years, I want to know how the game plays. And it plays beautifully. It's slick, entertaining and simply well thought out. You could say that it is not as good as other versions but as I said , who cares? It's portable and on the smaller screen it's even better!!!
EA we're always going to be cautious with this release. If it sells the they will produce more games regardless of reviews or criticisms. Sales will be the deciding factor in EA making it not making a long term commitment to Nintendo again.
Having now seen the game running alongside the Xbox one and PS4 version in GAME, strictly no recording of footage allowed sadly, I can honestly say that whilst there are clear graphical differences, fully expected , the game stands up well and the queue to play the Switch version was longer than for it's bulkier rivals. The GAME guy was saying that the switch has really exceeded expectations already and people are still trying to get hold of one and they have pre orders suggesting Xmas is going to hugely successful for Nintendo. The thing Nintendo have done right is that they have stood on their own two feet and not taken on the other 2. Switch is an alternative and it's appealing once again to a mass audience not just hardcore gamers.
The indie games keep coming and are great and the top games each month are sheer brilliance!!
Xbox and PS4 fans are quick to mock Nintendo but if you love pure gaming quality, Switch is a great console to have.
If you want purely movie style graphics, it's simple, dont buy one!!

Re: FIFA 18 on Nintendo Switch Accounts for a Tiny Percentage of UK Launch Sales
I hope I’m wrong.
Re: Review: FIFA 18 (Switch)
Moaners should stop moaning. This is great.
Re: Video: Here's What FIFA 18 Looks Like On Nintendo Switch
EA we're always going to be cautious with this release. If it sells the they will produce more games regardless of reviews or criticisms. Sales will be the deciding factor in EA making it not making a long term commitment to Nintendo again.

@Bondi_Surfer I understand that sensi is in development and the producers think it will fit Switch perfectly!!
Re: Video: Here's What FIFA 18 Looks Like On Nintendo Switch
