Well, it finally happened. Nintendo has us on such tenterhooks that the announcement of an announcement feels like an event in itself. Although here at NL Towers we avoid reporting on baseless rumours and idle forum speculation, now's the time to indulge our inner fanboys-and-girls.
The press release tells us to prepare for ‘around 35 minutes of information on upcoming Nintendo Switch titles, including new details on Fire Emblem: Three Houses’. Although we’re massive fans of the franchise, it isn’t the crowd-pleaser that Super Smash Bros. is – a 30-minute deep-dive on Three Houses isn’t going to wash. After skipping January, this Direct has to keep people happy for a good while and we expect it to be juicier than the last. A cursory nod towards 3DS’ existence will be fine, but the press release doesn’t mention it, so the only handheld we expect to hear about is Switch.
Without further ado, let’s take a gander at what we think Nintendo has in store for us this evening.
Info And Solid Dates For Fire Emblem: Three Houses, Daemon X Machina… And Everything Else In 2019
While Fire Emblem gets a namecheck in the press release, we expect most things scheduled for 2019 to get solid release dates. Yoshi’s Crafted World might get a look-in, although March 29th is creeping up fast and we’d be disappointed if it took up more than a couple of minutes. Updates on known quantities like Luigi’s Mansion 3, Daemon X Machina and Animal Crossing wouldn’t go amiss. If Bayonetta 3 is far enough along to deliver some footage (or at the very least a teaser), we’d love to see how Platinum’s witch is getting on.
Persona 5 Announcement And Some Third-Party Ports
Joker’s upcoming appearance in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate makes this a sure bet for Switch, and we cannot wait to see how the console handles Persona 5. Elsewhere, the are they-aren’t they rumours surrounding Assassin’s Creed III Remastered persist, although with Nintendo and Ubisoft being super BFFs, it would be odd if it wasn’t happening. Dragon Quest XI S and Final Fantasy VII dates would be lovely. Spyro Reignited is rumoured to be finally arriving, and we wouldn’t be surprised to see another couple of third-party games jumping to Switch – Atlus’ Catherine, for example. Also, more details on Capcom’s plans for Resident Evil re-releases.
Metroid Prime Trilogy HD Deluxe Apology Edition
Surely! No? Surely!
No, really, who doesn’t want this? It’s a no-brainer after that apology video and Nintendo arguably needs it to keep the Metroid flame burning. We’d also take Metroid: Samus Returns on Switch, too – 'available shortly after this presentation’ would be lovely, ta.
Pokémon
We’re still a bit giddy at the prospect of an honest-to-goodness, brand-new Pokémon RPG that you can play on the telly, so any update on the upcoming Switch edition would be excellent. In truth, it will obviously get a bunch of its very own Directs in due course – and we’re not entirely convinced that this won’t slip into 2020 – but a quick visit to the Game Freak offices to see a developer chatting to camera in front of a mountain of Pokémon plushies would be dandy. There’s always room for other titbits, too – a Pokémon Picross or some such side-venture to tide us over while we wait for the big one.
Next Round Of Smash amiibo, Plus DLC News
We’ve seen ‘em, we want ‘em, we’ve gotta catch ‘em all! We wouldn't be surprised to hear solid dates for the upcoming releases along with a couple of new ones. It's possible we'll get info on the 2nd DLC character, too, although it's hard to argue that Smash hasn't been Direct-ed to death. Don't tell anyone, but we could probably live without it tomorrow.
SNES Games For Nintendo Switch Online
Nintendo’s relative silence in January suggests they’ve been cooking up something special. Again, SNES games on the Nintendo Switch Online service isn’t some revolutionary idea, but we’d snap ‘em up and it’d be great to see the company’s plans for the subscription service, whatever they entail.
A Wii U port
Take your pick. Pikmin 3 rumours have been doing the rounds, as have several other details from a poster on ResetEra who accurately predicted the Direct. Direct predictions always sound a bit fishy to us – there are only so many weeks in the year and if you look at the pattern of previous announcements, you’re bound to be right sometimes. Given the choice, we’d prefer Super Mario 3D World over Pikmin 3, but we’re not sniffy. The same source mentions for Super Mario Maker 2, Boxboy, a new 2D Zelda and Pokémon. As we said before, we’d bet Pokémon will get hours of Direct to itself, but none of the others sound implausible.
A Wildcard
We won’t mention the game that rhymes with ‘Brother Tree’, but there’s usually something to knock you off-kilter. Tongues are wagging after Square Enix producer Shinji Hashimoto twice retweeted the news of the Direct, so there's that. There are whispers that Harmonix might have something to announce. Reggie Fils-Amiibo rumours persist.
Okay, that last one's a doozy, but the gloves are off! Whether Nintendo has been watching Wargroove’s success and fancies reminding everyone how it’s really done with a new Advance Wars, or the time has come to reveal the much-rumoured Switch Mini, or something unthinkable like Microsoft bringing Forza and Rare Replay to Switch – we’d wager there’ll be a surprise nugget that nobody’s even thought of. And who doesn't love a surprise that's available now on Nintendo eShop?
So that’s what we’re expecting – nothing too outrageous. What are you wishin’ and a-hopin’ for? Let us know in the comments and we’ll see you tomorrow night at 10pm GMT/11pm CET/2pm PT/5pm ET... and every hour in between for all sorts of lovely Nintendo Direct-related goodness. Finally!

Pikmin 4!!!
Already given this in the forums, but NL like us to use plenty of words, so why not. This is how the Direct will open:
White screen. Fade in Shinya Takahashi, giving his Metroid Prime 4 reboot message from the other week.
Very slowly... the camera zooms out...
We see the Shinya Takahashi message is being displayed on a screen.
Camera continues to slowly zoom out...
We see the screen is inside a darkened room, some sort of game development studio or similar...
As Shinya Takahashi delivers the line "We must let you know that development progress has not reached the standards we seek in a sequel to the Metroid Prime series..." the screen explodes!
The camera jumps back to reveal Samus Aran, her arm cannon smouldering.
Alarms start sounding. Samus turns to a nearby computer, a progress bar nearing 100%. We can hear raised voices and running footsteps in the background, getting closer. The progress bar hits 100% and Samus rips a memory stick from the computer, transforms into morph ball mode, and spider balls up the wall and into a ventilation duct just as doors burst open.
Samus races through the ventilation system, gunfire pelleting the duct all around her. Suddenly an explosion rips open the duct and Samus falls to the floor below. She jumps to her feet, face to face with Reggie, with a metroid on his head. Momentarily Samus tilts her head, pitying Reggie's plight, before she turns and runs. Reggie yells "Nooo! It's too late!" but Samus doesn't stop, sprinting through corridors, picking off enemies. She bursts through some double doors, into a tubular corridor, full of armed guards. She morph balls and spirals around the tube, evading the tumultous fire of bullets and lasers. With no apparent way out she speeds towards a frosted glass window at the end of the corridor... is that 'Retro Studios' emblazoned on the outside of the window?
Camera cuts to an external shot of Retro Studios offices. The window smashes as Samus's morph ball flies out. Transforming in mid air she lands on her waiting gunship, before jetting off into the sky. The camera pauses on the smashed window... Reggie stumbles into view inside. Falling to his hands and knees in anguish (metroid still implanted on his head), he looks up at Samus' disappearing gunship, and in one final effort shouts "Please understand!"
Cut to black screen and the title 'Metroid Prime 4' slams into view, followed by a caption below in retro computer text "... available after this Direct".
There follows 33 minutes of non-stop action sequences and intrigue, explosions and laser fire, music and effects, awesome co-op and online multiplayer etc.
That's my prediction.
@Octane I'll take just Pikmin 4 any day. I think there'll be more FE Three Houses than fans realise which will upset some.
What would also excite me in addition to Metroid Prime Trilogy is a Switch port of Samus Returns. Or heck, a collection of all the Metroid games, why not.
I can't wait, I just want to be blown away with surprises, that's all I want
Body Harvest for Nintendo Switch
It would be neat to see some regular Wii remasters to fill up the schedule. Maybe some Fatal Frame for fall?
God knows why Nintendo keep flogging Pikmin,great games but pretty poor sellers all things considered.
Excitebots and Excitetruck remastered. Why not?!
skyward sword HD please
I'd be happier with 30 minutes on Fire Emblem than I would 30 minutes on Smash. God that was a boring E3 presentation.
But, Wave Race please...
Well I know what I'm prepared for. Disappointment. These Directs are NEVER as good as everyone's imaginations want them to be.
The Sims 4 on Nintendo Switch !!!
I would be excited if they talked about:
-A new Donkey Kong game, after the Wii U port.
-Yes, Western date for Dragon Quest XI S
-Yes, Final Fantasy VII (not remake, I understand)
-Yes, SNES games on NSO
-If there is a Super Mario Maker 2, please make it a proper sequel, not an enhanced port. I still want to enjoy Wii U's version, which I haven't squeezed completely, not by a long shot.
-Mario Kart 9 announcement
And I couldn't care less about more information and dates of games already announced. Really. A Direct is not for this. And I have too much backlog anyway.
@johnvboy Pikmin 3 sold over a million on the struggling WiiU. Personally I don’t think that’s poor.
Zelda has to be on the books. It’s a Ninty staple franchise for Pete’s sake
I'm pretty excited for this one and I haven't felt this way over a Direct in a looong time.
@gcunit and fans complain about it having been "a goddamn Metroid Prime direct, where is all the third party AAA support blah blah blah".
Now we're getting Fire Emblem news, I'm hoping for news on Shin Megami Tensei V next. I'm not banking on it though.
That said, I would be happy, but I also want everybody be happy, so if there no big news for me this time around, be sure that I will cheer you on, if your wish had been fullfilled.
I could see just about any Metroid game being announced for Switch as apology from Nintendo, whether that means Nintendo announces Super Metroid as the first SNES game coming to Switch or Metroid Prime Collection.
I can’t imagine any WiiU ports to the Switch getting a “and it’s available now,” so I’m guessing the only thing, if applicable, would be SNES games coming to Switch.
@gcunit that's EPIC bro!
I'm hoping for some Bravely Default or Golden Sun news.
There will surely be at least one (indie or re-release) game that is announced as "available now". Could well be one of the Final Fantasy ports.
I want to love Fire Emblem but have just never got into it, but I'm open to being convinced.
I'm not expecting too much new and would be surprised to see anything of the new Pokemon as that will get its own Directs (many, many Directs).
As long as Metroid Prime Trilogy is announced to be available soon and they add SuperNES games to the Online Service I’ll be more than happy.
I still think that this Direct will give half or more of its time to Fire Emblem.
No expectations from me like always. Hopefully some interesting surprises that I don't see coming but I'll be happy with almost anything they want to show. I'm not an overly fussy gamer.
I'm just waiting for Advance Wars. Always. ;_;
"Although here at NL Towers we avoid reporting on baseless rumours and idle forum speculation."
Two days ago there was a whole article and video made on the basis of a forum post.
My wallet is ready for Animal Crossing and Pokemon RPG! Maybe other ported games for alternatives.
A release date for luigis mansion 3
I expect to be disapointed. But hopefully the UK direct was all the indies and this direct will focus on AAA. No, I don't hate indies. I just think it's toooo much right now.
Wind Waker HD Switch please
G i v e
M e
G a m e p l a y
f o r
A n i m a l C r o s s i n g.
keeping my expectations low though.
I understand thinking Pokémon may slip to 2020 but isn't the Pokémon company much better with timely releases than Nintendo? I don't follow Pokémon as much but I don't recall many major delays.
Expect to see a reminder about Yoshi's Crafted World, the game comes out end of March after all.
Some supposed leaked images have been circulating too, such as one featuring an inflating Burt the Bashful with an authentic plastic look to it.
I think Persona 5 will be held off until March event, but if they give us 4 Golden and 3 FES, then all but confirmed
Edit: sorry, some kind of hybrid P3Portable with cut scenes, it was missing those, but other than that it was the most complete version
I'm not expecting much tbh ... I hope for a lot, mainly something Metroid but I'll take it as it comes later
@Aozz101x
I wonder what was Tom Nook doing from last Direct about Animal Crossing for Switch announcement.
He was talking about taking care peoples to get their homes, smashing things, etc.
Will he become a NEW mayor or House builder while we will become a Builder (like on Dragon Quest Builders) ?
I suspected from his word about "smashing".
FF7 available to purchase after the presentation!! I really think this is gonna happen!!!
Main thing I'm hoping for is SNES games on nso, specifically Mario World and Link to the past so I can sell my snes classic while it has some value. Outside of that some concrete release dates for things like Daemon X and others we know about already. Also hoping for a Wii U port or two and expecting a surprise somewhere. Really looking forward to it!
I was put off by the Fire Emblem they showed last direct.
I hope they can convince me to want it again.
I think that we will see for sure:
Assassins Creed
Spyro
a Persona game
Fire Emblem (already announced that will appear).
Maybe:
Daemon X Machina (info about release date)
Resident Evil (info about release date)
Square Enix game/s (Dragon Quest, Secret of Mana etc)
Metroid Trilogy
Pikimin (wish it would be the 4th one already said to be in development)
Not going to see:
Pokemon (they have their own presentation so, no, it won't be now).
Wish list:
Mario Maker 2
Any nice dormant IP from Nintendo!!
SNES and N64 games for the online service.
Game Cube games release on eShop for purchase.
Please refrain from posting in all caps - Octane
@Anti-Matter Nook was saying everyone will be tired from all the Smashing when they get back. Because Villager and Isabelle are in Smash.
For the Direct, I'm not really hoping for more than SNES games on NSO, and some Metroid to tide us over. It sounded like Nintendo was very aware they need to do something for franchise fans when the Great Apology was issued.
Either way, I'm still gonna keep enjoying what I've got. (I forgot the long legs on South Park:FbW!_
I expect they'll announce a lot of things we already know about as this was probably ready to be shown in January but they waited until February b/c we all wanted it in January.
So, Switch $35 eShop credit bundle
Piranha plant
MP4 is delayed
Really not expecting anything new, they'll save the good stuff until E3.
Oh, and what have they said recently they WEREN'T doing? At least one of those.
I'll be watching on YouTube on my Switch on my tv, but I'll be here on my tablet for the overwhelmingly bad comments.
Take me the station
And put me on the train
I've got no expectations
To pass through here again
My predicition:
1. A quick apology recap for Metroid 4, followed swiftly by Metroid Trilogy HD collection. We will get a quick tease, and it will be scheduled for relase in Q3 of 2019 (here's hoping for a quicker release though!)
2. Fire Emblem: Three Houses - new trailer and details. Dediciated Nintendo Direct details to follow in March / April.
3. Yoshi's Crafted World update / trailer.
4. Pikmin 3 re-release for Switch for Spring / Early Summer. Teaser for Pikmin 4.
5. Now for 3rd party stuff. Square Enix to announce some news on FF titles, maybe update on Dragon Quest.
6. Daemon X Machina new trailer. ETA will likely be Q3 / Q4 2019
7. Surprise new release, possibly eShop title
8. Atlus with news on Persona Q2, Persona 5 port & Shin Megami Tensei V
9. Confirmation of Smash Bros Ultimate new fighter, plus Amiibo release dates
10. And finally, a tease for Animal Crossing to launch in Q3. More details to follow around e3.
@johnvboy,
It may not be a system seller dude but it's one of my favorite franchises
Given I've already said this before, here are some pictures for your eyeballs' pleasure this time. Also, it'd be a dull comment otherwise. Also also I like to be delightfully obnoxious because you wouldn't want me any other way.
I'd be up for either one of the following:
1) Super Mario Maker 2. Or a Wii U port, whatever. Just lemme make HD Mario stages on the go. WITH ONLINE. Because the NSO needs further reasons for, you know, existing.
2) I come from a PlayStation (PS1, namely) background. You know the drill.
3) This one is another either/or scenario:
With the first of the three being, obviously, the most feasible. The second one would also be nice. The third would be kay-laerrrrr.
Or, you know...
Anything else is fair... er, game. (Sorry.) Either one of what I've suggested so far would be neat. Also, special mention to a SNES follow-up to "NES-flix". It came to mind after I've seen the reminder for that mockery of a "legacy content selection" we get every month (although Kirby's Adventure, in my opinion, alongside the thankfully-released-at-launch Super Mario Bros. 3, singlehandedly saves the package; I'm still waiting for a SP version of Super Mario Bros. 3 with free level selection enabled, though).
I want a release date for yokai watch 4 and dragon quest xi
The known and scheduled 2019 first party games are good enough as is. Give me lots of third party announcements, Nintendo.
@__Ret55 honestly my dream is to have every zelda game ported to switch, but i'm hoping for wind waker and minish cap the most. (also i'm not actually expecting that!! but if they ported all of them i'd buy it in a heartbeat)
Super Mario 3D World Deluxe
The LoZ: Link’s Awakening (Breath of the Wild-style Edition)
Dragon Quest XI S
Fire Emblem 3 Houses
Animal Crossing
Assassins Creed 3
Spyro Reignited
Mortal Kombat 11
This article has covered all my wishes. I would add Final Fantasy IX....because i love that game and I want to play it!!
As much as I did enjoy Pikmin 3, I was really hoping for a double or triple pack of all the games in HD. Plus, it's also the most recent Pikmin. I guess it would be easier to port that over than giving an HD treatment for the first two, but it would have been worth it to have all the titles on a single console, even if it was just one at a time
Rogue Squadron trilogy remastered HD
Some new info on Bayonetta 3 would be good. If there is gonna be a Wii U port I rather it be Super Mario 3D World.
@AlexSora89
Oooh....
I really like the mock up of Kingdom Hearts games on Switch.
Metroid Prime Trilogy pleeeeeeeeeeeeease.
i say we at least get a name and release window for pokemon and it says more to come feb 27th or whenever Pokemon day is and then my real real i would absolutely dieee
sinnoh remakes available for purchase after direct $39.99
Metroid Prime Trilogy pleeeeeeease.
@Anti-Matter
I knew you'd like the boxarts of all people
Yes, totally digging the vertical makeover the author has given to 1.5 + II.5. Open the image in a new tab to see at the bottom who actually made it.
@gcunit all of that happens except she plugs the game into a Switch and it's Star Fox Racer, cue 33 minutes of rage and disappointment.
Am i the only one hoping for a fox game like the one that released on Gamecube where you or out of the ship..
Resident evil 4 release date
@AlexSora89
Off topics.
I want to find another mock up or custom cover for Nintendo LABO series.
The official cover games for LABO was flat & too simple.
Anyone mention the Grandia remasters yet?
I'm looking forward to everything, to be blunt. This year is slated to be a big one for Nintendo. Fire Emblem and Daemon X Machina look amazing.
I'd also appreciate some Joker gameplay in Smash . . . with a tease of the next newcomer.
Would be very happy with any Persona reveal.. but then I would be really happy if FFVII is announced as available. Last time I played VII was on the good old Vita, it was amazing on handheld.
@Anti-Matter
Since you asked.
I really want a Pikmin 3 port, and even news on Pikmin 4. I Don't think 4 will be shown. It'll mostly be on games coming in the next 6 months. I don't think we will see Animal Crossing or Pokemon.
Looks like people need to temper their expectations.
@dartmonkey
"Metroid Prime Trilogy HD Deluxe Apology Edition" You made my day with that name
mario kart DLC? + others
My favorite thing is when they announce new releases "available now in the e-shop." It's always a surprise and those titles are usually unexpected. Hoping for one today.
You dare say Rare Replay ? I dare say Goldeneye !
Can't wait to download the Hornet DLC for Hollow Knight tonight and get stuck into it. I loved the game so far.
'A Hat in Time' needs to take its stand after an eternity of 'coming soon.'
If it's an 'available now' announcement I'll doff mine to the devs.
@Gerald 'Rogue Squadron trilogy remastered HD'
For that... I would freak out!
REALISTIC EXPECTATIONS BASED ON RUMOURS:-
Metroid Prime Trilogy
Boxboy
Dates for FE, Daemon x Machina and Marvel Ultimate Alliance 3
Assasins Creed 3/Revelations
Spyro Trilogy
Dates for FFVII, the Resi ports and DQXI
A new Labo
New Amiibo
OPTIMISTIC VERSION BASED ON RUMOURS:-
Starfox GP
Pikmin 3
DMC HD Collection
Some other third party ‘surprises’ like a translated Secret of Mana, Wolfenstein Youngblood, Dark Souls 2, a new Ridge Racer
Persona 5 (though a I think that’ll be at the Atlus/Sega Thing in March)
A Hat in Time
OUTLIERS/HUNCHES:-
Detective Pikachu HD (because of the fillum)
Something GTA-either V or a collection of the HD Ports of 3/Vice City/San Andreas
A new Monster Hunter
Persona 4 Golden
Papers Please
SMT V
SNES games on NSO (I’m betting on later in the year)
I CAN'T BELIEVE IT'S TODAY!!
@Gerald: I love Rogue Squadron. I also love KotOR, and the Dark Forces series of Star Wars titles. Of course, modding DF, and KotOR would probably not be possible for the end user, on Switch, as opposed to PC. Still, Rougue Squadron would be awesome.
@Everyone_Else: I'm hoping the newer amiibo will be easy enough for people to get. There's nothing wrong with making a reasonable profit. The problem comes when resellers raise the price of an amiibo to at least 3x their MSRP.
NSO - that dearly needs a boost in performance, and reasoning for carrying a price tag. Understand, I don't expect current online to be absolutely lag-free, at least with modern titles. On retro titles, such as pre-Gamecube, lag-free shouldn't be too difficult to accomplish. Give me a reason to subscribe, Nintendo. I can play Mario Kart, and Smash online for free on my WU.
Ports - I understand not everyone owns a WU, so I can understand if Nintendo makes ports, especially to fill space.
A Pilotwings game on Switch. I would absolutely love the 64 version released. According to wikipedia, the studio that worked with Nintendo on Pw64, Paradigm Simulations, was eventually dissolved.
If Saber is announced as Smash DLC tomorrow I'll buy Smash physically, to go along with my digital copy.
@Borngis
Wait, who?
@Capt_N 10 gold stars for mentioning Pilotwings.
@Gerald 10 gold stars for mentioning Rogue Squadron
Just the mention of these has my heart pumping. Unrealistic expectations are going to ruin me!!
Metroid Prime Trilogy for me. Its really all I need though a 2D Zelda would be icing on the cake.
I've been playing nothing but Octopath for the longest time (took a few months off the Switch), so if the Prime Trilogy comes out, I can see there being an entire year where I play nothing on the Switch but Octopath, MP trilogy, & Rocket League. Fine by me!
"Announcement:"
Microsoft giving back Killerinstinct, Conker, banjo & Kazooie perfect dark.
Just kidding, if That would ever happen.
@Anti-Matter Smashing things means Tom Nook will be the playable character in the new beat-em-up Animal Crossing game. It will be a top-down brawler called: Animal Crossing: Destroy Three Houses.
You all know the big reveal will be with that xbox stuff going on with MS and Nintendo chumming up, that Rare is back in it and they have been chomping at the bit to HD remaster Starfox Adventures. I know I'm on board (seriously though, I keep forgetting to get it back on my Gamecube, and I have the HDMI external device for it too.)
@AlexSora89 Saber, from the Fate series. She's a pick I know will never get in, but I absolutely want her in anyways.
Many people seem to be forgetting about DQ Builders 2. I believe the SE retweets are most likely having to do with that.
No Sora for smash. He has about as much of a chance for the game as Goku, Shrek, or Waluigi. (and yes, I admit I have an irrational desire for him to not make it into the game). A DQ rep is more likely due to popularity in Japan. Plus leaks... that hold as much water as my hands do.
The only thing I really want from this direct is Animal Crossing. Sadly I don't think it is time for that. This will probably focus on upcoming games and then some surprises.
Spyro? Kingdom Hearts 2.8? ... Super Mario Sunshine HD?
Let's face it. It could be anything at this stage.
@Skid
Ow, yeah.
I forgot about Dragon Quest Builders 2 USA & PAL version release date announcement.
And don't forget about Ninjala that will be released on Spring 2019 according from Direct last year.
TOWN footage or gameplay by game freak should be on their list too.
I don't have or want a Wii U so I've been really really hoping for Windwaker HD, then Twilight Princess HD. Can never have enough Zelda.
Other than that...any RPGs/Strategy games make me happy.
Bayonetta 3 and Pokemon are what I’d want to hear about. And perhaps a reveal for Persona 5
Senran Kagura producer retweeted the direct so I'm calling it now "senran kagura reburst and PBS for switch"!
This is my prediction:
Big ol' 10 minute-gameplay show of Fire Emblem we'll get a release date. Followed by Final Fantasy VII announcement: available after the direct is over
Then we see a bit more of Yoshi's Crafted World.
Some Joker gameplay for Smash followed by a Persona/SMT announcement.
And finally: Metroid Prime Trilogy HD.
@MasterJay Articles like this one want to take away any possible surprises.
Dreaming but amazing if Microsoft Xbox + Rare + Nintendo = goldeneye 🤪 please this would be amazing but I guess I’m still dreaming 🙂
@Al_Godoy You nailed it. I'll second your speculation.
@gcunit Brilliant - you had me in the edge of my seat! Although I think they’ll save this for E3 - with the addition of the gunship landing in the Nintendo area - right in the middle of an Animal Crossing picknick ground.
OMG i cant waaaait!!! i want persona 5!!!
@Borngis
Oh, right. I have memories of playing FSN fangame FATAL/FAKE back in the day. Good times.
Enough with the ports, for god's sake!
Pikmin 4 (not 3) or I'll sell my Switch ahah
@dkxcalibur is right, @Al_Godoy. It seems, sadly for my hopes, way too realistic given the scheduled runtime.
I can't wait for later today. Going to pick up a 6 pack and enjoy the show!
@Skid Waluigi is a dead meme. If he were to be made playable, they'd have to replace his assist trophy, not with a Cosmic Clone of Waluigi, but with Mr. Resetti. We need more GRAAAAHHH!
"we'd prefer Super Mario 3D World over Pikmin 3"
....really?
I’m not sure what to expect but that makes it all the more exciting, yes?
I'd like some third party surprises
I'd be really pleased with an HD remake of Alfred Chicken
@gcunit What joyless folks keep giving a thumbs down to this epic scribe??
GC, you're now the Bard Prime.
I don’t think they’ll do much outside what we already know is coming - concentrating on this half of the year and saving the juicy stuff for E3. I do expect a few surprises though - random hopes and baseless speculation:
Zack and Wiki sequel
Waverace in time for this summer and it’s massive and freakin amazing
Star Fox Racing and it’s super slick and charming with awsome combat and super dynamic changing stages (I like racing games with dynamic stages).
Super Nintendo World theme park building game - best efforts get built for real
Metroid Trilogy HD - full remaster
Nintendoland 2 - In keeping with the really fun multiplayer bits of the first - with people able to play asemetrically with multiple switches.
Zelda Maker & Mario Maker - with new Apple Pencil like stylus - tech baked into all Switches already but kept secret.
Mario-Mation - super cool art and animation game /app using stylus
Nintendo’s take on a flying combat game - like what Splatoon was to Shooters - I’ll leave it to them as their ideas are a bit better than mine.
Nothing too drastic, I just want SNES, GBA, N64, Gamecube games for the online service plus an advance wars and golden sun sequel
i always want the same thing but i know it wont happen for years.an update on shin megami tensei 5.just to confirm its still in development and all is going well.just 10 seconds will do.
...I have a fantasy of them announcing new Joy-Con colors ...like, "Pikachu Let's Go - Yellow (L/R)", or "Luigi's Mansion - Green (L/R)" to go with my "Mario's Odyssey - Red (L/R)" ...or, maybe even, just "Neon Purple (L/R)" and "White (L/R)" ...that would be great!
@TJM I so forgot about Zack & Wicki, my original copy got stolen (!) so I would at least have a remaster...
Nintendo, just give me that new "Mach Rider" I've been wanting for 20 years now. You know you want to...
@Skid
Oh yeah DQ Builders 2. That would make total sense.
I'd be happy if all these predictions were correct. However, saying "wildcard" or "mystery game" is pretty lazy when it comes to predictions.
Please can we have Mario maker 3
33 minutes of Three Houses and 2 minutes of Edelgard announced for Smash (Brave referencing the brave weapons from Fire Emblem rather than the rumoured interpretation)
I’m going in with zero expectations
@Arbor we share the same dream my friend. Having just played thru both MC and WWHD , I'd be content with some of the gbc color games coming or the n64 games. But In all honesty, id take anything.
7:00pm central daylight time U.S.
-FE Three Houses Release Date (excepted obviously)
-Animal Crossing Trailer and or Release Window
-Yugioh Legacy of the Duelist: Link Evolution Release Date/Window (Surprised there was no quick article for this TBH)
-Joker Gameplay & Release Date
-Next Wave of Amiibo & Release Date

Would love Battlefield Bad Company 2 Remaster with all DLC on the switch
Perhaps it’s because the September direct was so good, but I’m waaaaay too hyped about this one!
I’m hoping to see plenty about FE (love the series), a few bits about Luigi’s Mansion and Animal Crossing, something Zelda (not necessarily a new game; I’d be happy with a port of SS, WW or TP), and maybe some new Mario Kart or Odyssey DLC. And as someone who never played the Metroid games (I know, right?!), I wouldn’t mind the rumoured Prime Trilogy, either.
And did I mention the HYPE?
I'm not resting my hopes on significant Pokemon or Animal Crossing info. I would love it. But no expecting it.
It would be nice to get some insight onto those unannounced game(s) they were alluding to
All I need is final confirmation of Dragon Quest XI S releasing in 2019 in the west and announcement that SNES games are coming to Switch online to make this direct a hit for me. Some big surprises would be nice, though - Spyro would probably be my biggest dream announcement.
I rather have Persona 4 Golden coming to the Switch. Such an awesome game. I don't care for Persona 5 at all.
I fully expect 10 to 15 minutes just on Fire Emblem. Then of course the quick blurbs about Luigi's Mansion coming this summer and Daemon X Machina coming in May or June. There will be a few ports. But outside of possibly a Mario Maker 2 reveal, I don't expect any surprises. They're gonna save Animal Crossing and Pokemon for E3. What I really want is some solid third party news.
NOTE: Prime Trilogy HD would definitely be a port....
What would be cool is, they add GameCube games to the Nintendo switch online. SO you get 3 nes games, 3snes, games and then ,1 or 2 GameCube games a month.
nintendolife people are crazy if you think they will give release date for everything in 2019.
Why do people think Nintendo "saves the juicy stuff for E3". Nintendo focuses on one main game for E3, and then has some other cool announcements for the rest of it. It's basically just a souped-up direct.
What on earth rhymes with 'brother tree'?
I predict you all are gonna shut up while the Nintendo Direct goes on, so you can hear what Nintendo has to say, rather than go by what they're showing alone.
i think the one more thing will be the release of joker for smash
All I care about is fire emblem. Sadly I have a meeting at this time.
F-Zero please.
@Welshland,
It's a good game fella,but if Nintendo want to hit those yearly sales targets I feel they need a "Mario Kart" to boost Switch sales.
Of course a Pikmin 3 port is a nice easy filler for Nintendo I suppose,and could be a good seller with the Switch's installed base.
@JackEatsSparrows I figure there's just some poor souls out there who lack the fine dexterity to hit the right button - they are a bit weeny
@beazlen1,
Not too sure where your figure comes from fella?,1.25 million seems to be the figure for Pokemon 3.
@BetaWolf Agreed. Nintendo wouldn't give used toilet roll away for nothing, let alone their cherished SNES games.
@electrolite77
That is literally my perfect Direct you just wrote😳
Where does all the Metroid Prime Trilogy speculation come from? It was never even hinted to be coming to the Switch.
"Always room for other titbits" This made me laugh
a game dedicated to a character whose name rhymes with shmaluigi
@beazlen1: 10 Gold Stars for you, too, and your cool icon - pun entirely intended.
PIKMIN 4.
PIKMIN 3 PORT
DEAR GOD I'M EXCITED
@johnvboy
No i don't want another MK as of yet. I am hoping Nintendo will do one of two things. Release a bucket load of DLC for MK8 and hold off on the next installment until their next console.
Personally I feel having another entry in the MK series will divide fans as MK8 is still very much alive and doing very well in the sales charts.
I'd happily pay £30 for a say an extra 4 cups and a roster of new characters added
I just remembered...ugh, Capcom, please...SAY SOMETHING ABOUT MONSTER HUNTER ON SWITCH ALREADY! Even if it's Stories HD/2/Ultimate/whatever you wanna call it, I don't care!
The Portable Team had to be doing something all these years after releasing XX on the 3DS, and I know they're not making a Vita game. lol

Brother Tree sounds like a LotR spinoff about Ents. It'd be niche, but I'd play it.
I don't know what I would love to see...but I'm excited to see what Switch players are getting throughout the year.
I'll be at work during the Direct. I'll catch the synopsis later.
Super Mario Galaxy 3?....I know, wishful thinking.
@Frosty_09
I admit, I laughed.
Dont know about you guys and gals but ive found it very hard to concentrate at work today. All the possibilities are floating thru my head. Never have great feelings about a direct, usually I'm just excited to see what's coming but never have expectations, this one feels different. Super pumped for it.
HYPE HYPE THE HYPE TRAIN IS COMING
@BenAV Ditto.
@Welshland,
I will only accept Mario Kart 9,the Switch needs it's own entry to the series,although some more Mario Kart 8 DLC would be nice also.
Not long to go, Bingo Cards at the ready
@nintendobynature Me too, for some reason I keep coming back to this site even though I know the Direct hasn't started. Like to read people's comments and expectations.
That Prime trilogy would be so cool. Would be so psyched for it, though I'm only on Level 2's in Octopath, so its not like I need it now, but would like to be able to get it in a couple of months.
Stoked!
@BradC40 Same here and also Brad as well. I'm expecting an update on that other gamefreak project "Town", Maker 2, and some kind of information about what to expect with Metroid.
Really hope Maker 2 includes Mario 2 style levels. I know Mario 2 is much different but they could make it work.

Brother Tree sounds like a LotR spinoff about Ents. It'd be niche, but I'd play it.
@Blitzenexx This needs to happen!!!
@Tirza We have a superior product already with Wargroove
Pls give us some DLC for Mario kart 8 deluxe
@Mayor_Haggar: That'd work too!
@johnvboy
I hear what your saying buddy afterall, we are playing a Wii U port with the DLC and a proper battle mode.
@dkxcalibur boy I'm I glad to be wrong!!!
That Link's Awakening remake is making me tear up.
Those "leakers" better try harder next time, becausethey were wrong about almost everything, and didn't make a sound about Links Awakening, Astral Chain, etc... They're full of crap.
@EVIL-C,
They are pretty much attention seekers,even people Like Emily Rogers have more hits than misses,and predicting a game like Mario Maker 2 is hardly a massive surprise..it was always going to come at some point.
Although I still expect the Switch to fly off store shelves,I can't help feeling a little underwhelmed by all this,of course Nintendo will not want to reveal all their games in one hit...but still.
When the Switch launch was initially delayed due to software not being ready I was not that concerned,but it just seems like Nintendo have never really caught up,of course last year showed that Nintendo could be carried by two big games at the end of the year,and they do always seem to have a strong Christmas period,but you would think they would have something big at the start of the year to give them the best start to reach those lofty 20 million targets.
As I said I still believe they are on a roll....but there just does not seem to be that much for me personally to look forward too..
@akennelley1 I don't think so.
Wargroove isn't that good. Unfortunately.
@Al_Godoy I agree....happy we were wrong. That was one of the best "directs" I've seen. So many games!!!!
