A while ago we shared showcase videos for ARMS that had been posted on Nintendo's Japanese YouTube channel; these showed off characters and weapons from the game.
There are now localised versions of the videos, so if you want to enjoy the footage and actually understand the text / voiceover, these are a good option.
Are you excited about the Spring release of ARMS, or are you unconvinced by it so far? Let us know in the comments.

Still confused About this game. I'm going to have to play at a demo.
I personally think this game is gonna do really well. I can't wait to pick it up and there is more content on the way so that's a relief. PS. Motion Controls are not mandatory for this game you can use a controller.
I can almost guarantee this game will be savaged by critics for lacking game modes beyond Arcade, local and Online (not that most beat em ups have more modes) and its motion controls despite it having "normal" control options
I only watched the first video but it really impressed me honestly! I am hoping the bot AI is pretty good because I don't want to have to play this game online just to have a good time. At least, I am asssuming it has online.
Edit: Nevermind, the above post proved that online exists.
I'm very excited for this game! Can't wait to pick up my Switch along with this title.
I'm sorry but this game is gonna flop hard. It doesn't sell itself the way Splatoon did through trailers, and I feel you need to play it to understand it. And that will rely on Nintendo doing a demo to download.
It just comes across as a yawn fest. Not encouraging for a new IP. Should make Punch Out their franchise to fill this genre instead.
I'm in. Just not sure I'm 2 more joy-cons in....
@Dpullam They've said it will, with more than a single "1v1" mode.
I normally take the cute female character, so I'd go with Ribbon Girl until I find out which character best suits my play style.
I'm still not sold on Arms yet though. A demo would really help to show what's so good about this game.
@FragRed you need to play it to understand cartoonish boxing??
@ECMIM From what I have heard, a lot of people who played the demo of the game have similar views. Yes you do need to play this game to fully understand it. But Imany hearing so little buzz about this game, it really doesn't matter.
Hmm, the mechanics get more interesting the more I find out about them. I still don't think it's going to replace Tekken... but could be a fun purchase if it was cheap.
It's not going to be cheap though.
I stopped wanting a new Punch Out game since this was announced. Coincidence?
"Spring release"
Today is officially the first day of spring, 6:29AM this morning in my time zone, so does it have a date yet? I thought it was announced for the end of April but then that dissappeared. I'm guessing they realized MK8D could carry April so they are holding this back until May or June. Would be a good game for right after E3 since we all seem to think it needs a demo. Of course it could also depend on when Spla2oon is ready, Nintendo may be trying to space it's games out, as they should.
Looking forward to playing this one w/ my kids, not looking forward to purchasing both the game and an extra set of Joycons, hoping for a bundle this holiday.
@Stubi Technically you can play with one joycon each, it's not the best experience but it's possible.
im gonna use my arms to give this game 2 thumbs down
This has very limited appeal for me. Can't say I'd play it much if it was a pack in.
Depending on reviews I may pick up a pre owned copy if it's a decent price further down the line but not anytime soon.
Looks fun for a short burst but not the type of game I'd shell out £45 - £50 of my hard earned money on
@rjejr "Spring release"
Considering the type of game and its mechanics, there's a joke in there, hiding in plain sight. Wonder why nobody thought of it...
@Stubi
They need to do local multiplayer like the did with Mario Kart on DS..... two systems can share certain modes/tracks with one cart through local wireless. then we each use our own switch.
Played at an event! A lot of fun, and really quite in depth. At the same time, very playable, even a beginner can pick it up and have a blast.
@FragRed why the selective memory? there was literally no hype behind splatoon until after the first global test fire. trailers had nothing to do with it.
I still think the character design is going to hold this one back, but the newer three designs seem like they were at least trying to create appealing characters.
I myself don't really see myself spending sixty dollars for it, but I'll be keeping my eyes peeled for a cheaper price.
Rather have Punch Out
I haven't watched the vids, but this looks like it will be a lot of fun...very arcadey. I can picture it being very competitive. Sorry if I've got in the way of the misery. Carry on.
This is such a fun game. I don't like boxing at all, and am even less interested in most boxing games, but I loved this. I do think it needs a demo though, because it's really not something you can fully understand from a trailer or an ad. Needs to be experienced to be appreciated.
Gonna give it a go. I like the core concept and the weirdness of it all. Still worried about how light on content it looks. Wouldn't mind if they outlined a plan to release new free content after launch like with Splatoon, but at the moment it's looking like this might be it.
The gameplay just looks awkward to me. I know I need to play some of it to get the feeling, but I'm still not convinced.
This would have been a great WiiU game... two screens for multiplayer.
Seems like it would only be fun after a few hours if you have friends with their own Switch console who are also really into it.
And what a boring announcer... is he in the game as well?
I love this. Games like Arms are a breath of fresh air against the monotony of typical game releases.
Yet to see how good it'll be, but it looks fun and maybe has the potential to be another Splatoon, even though I doubt it'll be that addictive.
I just need an exact release date. Already preordered and paid in full. Zelda is great. MK8 is a month away and then this. This will round out my little Switch library nicely. AND, I already have two joy-cons and 2 pro controllers. Just gimme the game.
These Video don't convey any kind of excitement he sounds dead bored.. unlike the versions. I'll be getting it as after playing the demo at the switch event this was a rather solid game and seemed to have quite a bit of depth in the fighting mechanics
@holygeez03 I thought it was less the announcer was boring and more the repetitive music in the background lacked punch (pun semi-intended). Like it needed crowds cheering and chanting and the music to ramp up around the events the announcer was explaining.
How many people are saying they would buy this exact game if only it had Punch Out characters? And how many people have said they would buy the exact same game as 1-2 Switch if only it was called WarioWare Switch? People won't even buy Nintendo's own games unless they have their old IP characters, and then they wonder why more third parties don't put their games on Nintendo systems.
I'm noticing a pattern of "I was indifferent to ARMS, but then I actually played it and now I want it."
Personally, I haven't gotten to play it yet, but Punch-Out is one of my favorite Nintendo games, and this looks like a spiritual successor to Punch-Out with better motion controls and multiplayer. Consider me hyped.
@WiltonRoots - C'mon man, don't you understand?!? There are no gaaaaames, and the Switch has been out for almost 2.5 weeks! Third parties! 55,000 devs surveyed last fall & only 480 of them were working on Nintendo games. You can't even walk around in Ireland without stumbling over a pallet of Switches for sale. As you like to say, doomed.
Edit: This does look super fun, but still...
I don't know how much lasting appeal a boxing game has compared to something like Splatoon, but we'll see. I'm very skeptical as of right now, though, so it would be nice if they released a demo.
Played this at the event. Great pick up and play game. Anyone can get in to this. Motion controls were spot on for this, you can even bend you punches. Honestly I didn't expect to have fun with this but I was wrong
Edit.
Also a great game if you have kids. A must have for the switch
I get Overwatch vibes from the characters! They should have named "Mechanicha": "MEI-chanica!"
The presentation could've been a bit more excitingly presented, but the extra gameplay info is helpful, to understand the depth of the gameplay a bit more
Looks pretty fun.
I'm not sure Arms will ever be as big Splatoon, but I hope it is successful enough to encourage Nintendo to make more new IPs during the Switch's lifecycle.
Any time Nintendo puts out new ip im stoked.
Hope it succeeds and hope that nobody on this site wants it to fail.
This looks so much fun, especially with friends / family. Why would anyone want boring old Punch Out compared to this??
Hoping for at least 16 characters, 12 unlocked and 4 secret, with a decent number of stages and maybe a 2 v 2 option
@WiltonRoots Well commenters have the right to express their skepticism's and concerns. If you don't like their 'misery' then just ignore them, since their not hurting the sales for the game. I mean i'm sure as heck that i'm picking this game up along with the Switch, when it eventually comes out, and if they are people who don't really care for game like this, then it's fine for them to express that their not interested in it or not interested in it at the moment, it's just how things are.
This is one of those games I plan on getting after I see some official reviews on it or at least get to play it first.
Wow. WOOOOOOW. Spring Man, but Ribbon GIRL? Not Ribbon Woman??? That's misogynistic! I bet she's not getting paid her fair share, compared to him! Prepare to be slammed by Anita Sarkeesian and her legions of faux feminist banshees, Nintendo.
Just watch. I'm calling it now, that's going to come up as an "issue."
@PlywoodStick eyeroll
On topic: This game could be fun. I definitely want to wait for a demo or review before I buy it though!
I LOVE ARMS ideas. It just Exactly like I want to see from Boxing games. 3rd person view + moving around (not just being static like Punch Out) + Super Art like Street Fighter series = Dream Come True. I have ever played K-1 series games (Kickboxing in Japan) since PS2 era before so I understand the mecanism of boxing games. ARMS gave me Exactly ideas that I want to see from Boxing games in the future. That's why I create my own Cute Chibi Boxer / Kickboxer (I put it also as my Avatar) based on Animal Boxing NDS ideas (The Chibi form) + Pocket Fighter PS1 ideas (The hillarious fighting ways) + K-1 World GP PS2 (Boxing/Kickboxing fighters) + Street Fighter III 3rd Strike PS2 (Choose One from Three Super Arts + Groove meter to build some Power). The ARMS ideas was completing my last idea concepts such as 3rd person view and fighting mecanism (but without extended long arms and weapons) .
Love the ARMS ideas. Hopefully there will be more Boxing / Kickboxing games on Nintendo Switch since we haven't get any from 3DS & Wii U era.
I'm going to pick it up, mainly because I want a game with solid content that really pushes the Joycon concept. I wonder how the regular controls will work, since you need to twist the Joycon in the direction you want the arms to punch. Maybe each analog stick will control that.
I feel kinda excited, but I'm a little worried about a lack of content with only 5 characters and i feel like i would want to feel the controls. The Wii got me very weary of motion controls.
"I've only seen a small portion of what the game is like, the game can still be a ways out from release, and I haven't played it, but I'm still going to say this will be bad because Nintendoomed."
Remember this image? I sure do.
You know, I should probably make a red version, with the rebranding and all that.
It looks fun so far. Maybe they'll give it a lot of content, like they did with Smash. Fighting games need a lot of it for most to justify a purchase it would seem. It could be great.
@Shiek Deep down in your heart, you must know it. The storm is coming.
And wow, it's been almost a year since you last commented... Looking at who was pestering you with their narrow world view, though, I can understand why. I can hardly stand that capitalism guy, myself.
Bugsy being Ninjara.
This is what Nintendo needs fresh new IP's to compliment there classic IP's, and this looks like classic Nintendo. Fun.
@PlywoodStick Lol, I already knew that Capitalism was a delusional fanboy, but I didn't know he was homophobic, Jeez.
This looks like a good game for my library. I won't be behind if it takes off, and I'll get hipster cred if it doesn't! I'll probably be sticking to Master Mummy and Mechanica.
The comments here and in previous articles about this game are just like they were for Splatoon. "Maybe if it was a cheap dowload,not paying full price for it" , " could be fun in short bursts" , "should be a $20 E-shop download" , "I don't like the characters" , "It's going to bomb hard".
@AlwaysGreener Yeah, all the people who have liked his comments over time probably missed that little stinker of his back in June 30, 2016. I first figured out there was something wrong with the guy back in January, when I was jokingly bashing 1, 2, Milk, and he took it completely seriously.
"Personally if I didn't like something, I wouldn't be in the comments section writing multiple posts about how horrible the product is. Maybe it's just me but I have better things to do."
Yet he comes on here occasionally for no other reason than to let loose an unsavory side of himself.
I'd be all over a bundle packed with ARMS themed Joy-Cons, and Nintendo would be crazy not to produce one.
It looks boring to me. Like part of a mini game compilation not worth more than $10.
@ballistic90 There will be far more than 5 characters.That was just a demo build to let folk try it out.Nintendo have already confirmed there will be lots more characters and modes in the final game.
@OorWullie I've heard that, but shouldn't they start showing off more content by now?
@ballistic90 I think in the weeks leading up to release,we'll get regular updates with new characters/modes etc like they did with Smash and Splatoon.It's going to be getting a big push from Nintendo,it's the Switch's first big exclusive.But there is still 2 months at least before it releases.As the Switch reveal shows,leaving it late seems to be Nintendo's new thing.
Mechanica obvious D.Va knock-off, silly Nintendo trying to get Blozzrd themed skins in ARMS, coming this SPRING
needs a boostio dream
Ah shucks. I preferred the japanese style characters. Maybe the Japan release will have English language option???
@LUIGITORNADO Of course Vs. AI is going to be boring. Vs. Human opponents would be much more interesting, although I can see Spring Man as being too reliant on low health to do much otherwise, and Master Mummy as being a little OP with the heal-guard.
Sold!
@PlywoodStick Yep, If you try to make a joke, critique Nintendo or correct them in anyway, they just go on a tangent and say you're negative, it's quite sad really.
My next most anticipated game after Zelda. Can't wait!
Edit: I am annoyed by the lack of Ribbon Woman. Yeah I said it.
This looks weird but in a good way. Trust Nintendo to come up with something fresh when most other developers are churning out the same old stuff.
Have yet to see anything that makes this a $60 game.
@rjejr Funny you say that about it originally being down for April 28th.I believe it was me who initially said that on here and you replied to me about it.I got that date from the games official page but then the next time I checked it changed to Q2.I knew what I saw but then I started doubting myself as it changed so quickly.Then earlier today,I found this.
https://www.gamefaqs.com/switch/204207-arms/data
GameFAQ's has Arms down for April 28th in the EU but Q2 for NA.I'm guessing they saw the same date I saw and just haven't updated it yet.Knew I wasn't going mad
I'm getting visions of Robo Pit on the PS1. I had a lot of fun with that. I'll keep my eye on this.
@Ryu_Niiyama That's right! Mechanica is a girl. Ribbon is a woman. They are not the same.
The fiancé is interested
Getting more and more interesting. Looks like the mechanics is quite deep and will allow for a diverse set of moves. A demo would be great!
@Achoo
I would have thought that's exactly how it works. Are you trying to tell me that in 18 months maybe 2 years time a pre-owned copy of Arms will still cost £50??
I'm not sure me and my partner are willing to buy an extra pair of Joy-Cons to fully enjoy this one. I mean, one of us could use the Pro-Controller... but that's just not the same.
@ThePoochyKid "You know, I should probably make a red version, with the rebranding and all that."
do it...it's a 2 second swing in Hue/Saturation in photoshop.
@Achoo
Yes that is true with evergreen titles such as GTA they do still command a high price to be fair.
I just don't personally see Arms as being one of those titles although I'm happy to be proved wrong....... I guess we'll just have to wait and see
Man that announcer in the video is really annoying... but I'm looking forward to the game!
Looking forward to this more as I see more.
We need to see new characters, and that video didn't even have all that have been announced.
@OorWullie Knew I wasn't going mad
Well I'm not going mad, just old and senile. I decided ARMS was probably May but I confused it w/ MK8D on April 28th. Does seem like Nintendo is pacing stuff out as they usually do. They dont' just put out a game when it's done, they have to ask when is ARMS going to be ready, when is Splatoon 2 going to be ready, when is SSB4 Complete going to be ready, then they space them all out over the course of the year. Which is an ok plan, problem is when the company gives dates, then 1 game gets delayed so it delays the rest of them. That, and they are trying to sell a new console. Great as Zelda is hard to sell a console w/ 1 great game and a bunch of indies.
I also found it interesting in this thread and others that nobody really talks about the many different release dates between even the US and EU, so maybe this releases in the US in May and EU in June. ARMS isn't Zelda or Mario, it's not even Yoshi or Captain Toad, and they were both months apart. Not like ARMS is going to sell many Switch anyway, for me its' more a question of - the longer we wait for ARMS probably the more likely we wait for Splatoon 2, and that is a system seller, big time in Japan, but also in the rest of the world. ARMS just needs to release sooner rather than later so Splatoon 2 can release sooner rather than later.
@ThanosReXXX "Spring release"
Ooooh, nice one. And you're right, that should practically be a meme by this point. You ever watch Bugs Bunny, that seems like a Bugs Bunny joke. Maybe Road Runner.
@rjejr Did I ever watch Bugs Bunny? Did I ever: I was addicted to ALL Looney Tunes...
Road Runner? Meep, meep!!
And come to think of it, ACME would be a REALLY good guilty party where the faulty Joy-Con are concerned...
@ThanosReXXX I think ACME would be a really good sponsor in ARMS for promoting the fights. "This battle brought to you by ACME, for all your spring-loaded road-runner catching needs."
@rjejr That's a good one to. I was thinking more about all the mishaps that happened to the poor coyote while using ACME equipment. Would suit some of the Switch whiners just fine...
All this talk about ACME and Looney Tunes actually reminds of how bad I would seriously like to see another good game in that series. One of the last good ones I played was on the Dreamcast, which is WAY too long ago...
