As we settle into the weekend we're given a good opportunity to dwell on future titles that we wish we were playing right now, and we bet Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS is occupying a few minds at present. It arrives in Japan very soon, and hits the West on 3rd October.
Masahiro Sakurai's daily posts on Miiverse are becoming less mysterious and more informative, as a result of the title's secrets gradually being exposed in full. His final post of this past week showed off the "Games & More" menu on the 3DS version's interface, which is where single players will find the Stadium mini-games and the rather cool-looking Classic mode. There'll be Group games, too.
You can see Sakurai-san's posts below.
Pic of the day. So what is this Games & More option in the menu? I assume that some people may use this mode the most.
This is what you see after you click on Games & More. There are many modes to choose from. There's the Options button, too.
Futhermore, this is what the screen looks like after you click on Solo. In the Stadium, you can find the Home-Run Contest, various Multi-Man Smash challenges, and Target Blast!
We're getting a clearer picture of what modes are included in Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS; are you happy with how it's shaping up?

@Swiket DLC maybe? at least then more work can be put into it since they can release it whenever.
I wonder why he thinks we'll be in that mode the most. In brawl I played the normal Smash mode the most, the AI is always fun and challenging in these games.
All spoilers aside, we're still in for many suprises, we don't even know if theres a break the target mode or something in that alley. Not to mention, I hope they remix the N64 music for that mode as well.
What does the Wii U button do?
@Swiket
Well, it shouldn't be a surprise that the 3DS doesn't have a stage builder, but I hope that the Wii U will have one, and if it does, an improved version from Brawl.
@BigDaddysPizza that will probably be the wii u exclusive mode
If they do make a stage builder for wii u which they will of course, I hope they have about 50 different pieces to place so we can make some more diverse and original stages.
foolish question I know, but does this game support Circle Pad Pro? I don't remember ever hearing or seeing if it does.
@3daniel Another website posted in their news that it won't but will support the small c-stick on the new 3ds systems.
Still waiting on Wii U news
@edgedino thanks. I was wondering if I should pick a cpp up. I don't mind the lack of a "cstick" but am worried about how flat the 3ds is when holding for long periods of time. Any suggestions of grips out there? I'll do a google search later. Already took off of work that weekend and I'm trying to be prepared haha.
So is Wii U just 1-4 player VS at the moment?
I hope its Wii U specific modes are so good they didn't want to spoil the surprise (and were scared of devaluing the 3DS version) because otherwise it's looking like they're going to be an afterthought!
@Nintenjoe64 Yep, so far nothing has been said about the Wii U as far as modes go or anything really except for stages, characters and trophies
@Ralizah we will find out soon I'd hope, but if I had to guess it'd be transferring character data (Mii customizations, custom character sets) from the 3DS to Wii U, since I'm sure a lot of people will want to keep their stuff when they boot up the Wii U version after spending so much time/effort on the 3DS version. Or I could be wrong and they can actually play together in some way shape or form..
@Nintenjoe64 there are several modes via leaks going around, I won't spoil, but the one thing they have in common is as @ikki5 says nintendo are waiting to release the 3ds version first before revealing them so as not to detract from the handheld. Some sound rather intriguing...
@Swiket Maybe the Wii U version will have stage builder. We know nothing of the modes within the Wii U version, therefore, we may get a stage builder in there. Plus, I'm sure that if we do get a stage builder, it'll be a significantly better one than the one in the previous game, especially since the Wii U is more powerful and can handle more things, as compared to the 3DS. I'd really like to see a story mode, but we were informed that there will not be one due to the cutscenes being difficult to make. :c Stage builder would be cool too.
This game already has a ton of content, hope the game won't retail for $50...
Wasn't the stage builder in the vault in Brawl?
@Palutena
Yeah, I am hoping for a stage builder. The Gamepad would be idea for that feature, like look at Mario Maker, that there shows how well a stage building thing could easily work.
@Swiket Stage builder might be in vault
@Hero-of-WiiU well a pic of the day alread showed the menu select screen for the stadium minigames, and all that was there was multi-man smash, home run contest, and target blast (the new one that's basically Angry Birds in smash), so unless break the targets is unlockable (which would be a bit weird), it looks like the 3ds is getting no such mode.
@Imagamerboi Why would it cost different than others? It's still $40.
@NavySpheal Remember Shin Megami Tensei for the 3ds? That was $50.
@Imagamerboi Well, that one came with a strategy guide and a soundtrack CD. A copy without those goes for about $20.
I'm hoping the Wii U button means cross play.
@NavySpheal That is true. I guess theres no worrying lol.
I wonder if Sakurai will switch to Wii U only pics of the day after the game is released in Japan, or after the worldwide release in October.
I don't care much about modes for each because I will be getting both.
@3Daniel I would suggest like a 3ds stand that came with kid Icarus uprising that's what I use and is marvelous.
@edgedino I have that but my XL tends to slide off it. I've been reading up on some Grip reviews and I haven't found anything yet with glorious reviews so I'll keep searching or face the inevitable carpal tunnel lol.
@Swiket It's probably going to be a Wii U exclusive, I doubt they can spare the memory
Im pretty happy on the way its turning out. All though, theres a week left until the Japaneese release. And theres still a ton of detail characters and detail about the game that havent been anounced yet. Im still hoping on the Wii U version to support custom stages, and im waiting for a Mario & Luigi Dream Team stage, which i feel like is possiable because one of the songs in the 3DS smash bros is the Dreamy battle theme 'remix' of that game. Im hoping to hear about a Nintendo Direct about Super Smash Bros 3DS sometime this upcoming week before the release of the japaneese version to show all characters, stages, and whatever else they havent talked about.
@3Daniel well I guess it just depends cause I use it to rely heavily for my pokemon x let alone use it for kid Icarus uprising but it is better then nothing but let me know if u do find a good grip for it tho it would probably have to be on a wait for when the new 3ds series comes out since they won't have the exact measurements as the current 3ds series.
@sinalefa I'm wondering if he'll bother.
Gotta have a stage builder mode in the Wii U version - they already said no Subspace Emissary sequel - 3DS version has enough stuff. I can't imagine a single lost sale of the 3DS version b/c it doesn't have a stage builder. I can however imagine some lost Wii U sales if it doesn't have a stage builder b/c people will just keep playing the 3DS version which releases first. And we don't even know how long the wait is yet. Maybe it will release soon after but they don't want to tell us yet and limit 3DS sales?
Nintendo knows there are about 40m 3DS in the world - and probably many more after the new 3DS releases - but only 7 or 8 mil Wii U, so releasing the 3DS version first meant it is very likely that people would get that version before the Wii U version. So if the Wii U version doesn't have something awesome to set it apart they could lose some sales. I think most people would buy the Wii U version anyway even after getting the 3DS version but it still needs a hook to make sure everybody buys it. And nobody has seen a hook yet. Sorry amiibo fans, but I think most of you are buying them to have, not to use in SSB anyway.
As far as what the stage builder entails, I sincerely hope it's a ton better than the last one. Between building games Minecraft, LBP, MNR and Disney Infinity, well there should be something equivalent. And in addition an entire Nintendo Land in SSB for the amiibo to inhabit. Everybody was shocked when Subspace was unveiled, maybe they'll surprise us w/ a Tomodachi Life like game for the amiibo
@rjejr don't forget that some people are gunna also get both because of the free music cd, so that inturn will also give a reason to get the wii u version.
@edgedino - People are going to buy 2 games totaling $100 just to get a free music CD? I think anybody who cares enough about that CD of SSB music would buy all the Smash bros games regardless of content. Buying the game and then reselling it after you get the CD doesnt count
@Undead_terror NO! im tired of people just saying DLC? if the content is already thought through, then it should be on the disc.
@Captain-Falcon Well the more you put on the disc the less memory you will have....we got all these characters and stuff so let's wait and see
Stage Builder and Events mode confirmed for Wii U only?
@rjejr
A music Cd won't convince people of buying 2 games, but it will help to convince them of buying a second game, as most of us will buy for sure one of the versions.
@sinalefa I'm sure he'll update pics of the 3ds version to include tidbits and secrets that aren't immediately noticeable but the focus will definitely be on the wii u. also, why haven't there been trailers or pics available on the 3ds that showcase the actual 3d effect? or did I overlook them?
This reminds me that I need to pay off my copy soon. Can't believe the North American release is already less than a month away... There's already a ton of content in this 3DS card.
This hype, coupled with anticipation, is killing me. I've already decided that I'm buying the 3DS version as digital (on my primary 3DS) and retail, too (to have a second copy for my other 3DS for multiplayer with guests).
Hoping for a stage builder.... It work great with the touchscreen.
No Stage Builder? Oh......OK...
I'm still curious what will the Wii U button do, I hope it means some kind of cross play even if it's restricted to local only. Though its actual purpose will probably only be for the transfer of Mii fighters. [I hope not]
I was hoping for some Event Matches on 3DS, and then a completely different set on Wii U, but oh well. As long as there on one in the end I'm OK (Especially if they are more like Melee's) and there is plenty of content in the 3DS version to keep my busy for a VERY long time.
"and we bet Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS is occupying a few minds at present"
@ThomasBW84 Understatement much?
oh hey classic mode with a choose your own pathway, sweet. Not a replacement for adventure mode though, better be in Wii U port.
@3Daniel There is a Hori Monster Hunter one that is supposed to be the best. Monster Hunter 4 Hunting Gear for 3DS LL - Then that Cyber one (The dirt cheap ones are plastic copies of that but they need replacing all the time if you remove the 3DS from it).
@3Daniel
I think you are right, as I don't remember having seen anything 3D Smash related. Maybe the effect won't be that awesome or important.
@3Daniel
IGN has an article about it saying that the japanese 3ds support website says the game will not support the circle pad pro, but will use the extra stick on the new 3ds and the extra buttons. i'm going to be really mad if monster hunter 4 is the same way. it seems like theyre trying to force people to buy the new 3ds by not supporting the CPP anymore, and i dont like it one bit.
@3dcaleb Yeah I saw that a little while ago today. I for one plan to day 1 a "new" 3ds so it won't upset me much. I hope we can choose regions when playing smash online as I wouldn't want to play against cstick using players because we don't get the new handheld this year.
Am I the only one who's bugged by tha fact that the different modes you click on are on the TOP SCREEN rather than the TOUCH SCREEN? It's a minor nuisance, I know, but it just bugs me that it seems like you can't use the touch screen for selecting modes from the menu, when it seems so obvious that it should be the other way around, with the menu items on the touch screen and the menu preview image on the 3D top screen.
@sinalefa - I guess as long as there's no demos both games will sell
Good point though about the CD being an incentive to buy the 2nd game if somebody only wanted 1.
Still hoping for that double pack to arrive at NOA.
As soon as I get the game, I'll spend my first half-hour in Training mode, and then Classic, Classic, Classic... until I unlock everyone. Then Stadium, All-Star, and Smash Run, until I get everything else. It's gonna be Smash against the CPU from then on.
