@AnnoyingFrenzy No prob. Yeah agreed when viewed as a SP game, nothing has touched Vice City or San Andreas imo. I have little doubt the amazing evergreen sales status it has achieved is a good deal to do with the online multiplayer element. Seems to be a 'go to' game for goofing around with your mates for a lot of people.
@gamer95 and what has that got to do with my comment and reply to @AnnoyingFrenzy? It didn't sell all those in July did it! To be fair this article talks about being 'third best selling digital game' in July when it should really have stated third highest revenue in July behind BLOPS IIII and GTAV. All I am saying is it is perhaps probable, though not impossible, the top 2 sold less units in JULY than the stated 800,000 for FE3H but raked in more overall revenue through other avenues like buying casino money in GTAV!
@AnnoyingFrenzy the data is revenue based so while that includes digital game sales it also includes dlc, microtransactions, season passes, 'surprise mechanics' etc. A good chunk of GTA's amount, while it still clearly sells units digitally, is most likely not unit sales but in-game purchses.
Haven't bought an EA game in ages but have they actually released any game day and date on Switch with other platforms that wasn't hobbled significantly?
@Agramonte it may be the start of a 3k yen e-shop voucher Switch bundle that goes live this week, and has been promoted for a week or two, skewed any Yo-kai HW number bump somewhat but even taking that into account it didn't move the needle much.
I was proper underwhelmed, mostly because it was more of a 'VR' State of Play, but at least it was something from Sony. There has been a complete lack of communication from them in recent times and it is a format that can be used to improve that.
Heh Nintendo Life, why don't you just follow and quote the Resetera sales thread if you are going to report on stuff like this, rather than sourcing someone who tweeted info that has clearly been gathered from that thread?
@MrBlacky from what i've read from multiple people they are all estimated numbers extrapolated from online surveys they send out to their subsribers. It is why they are considered, shall we say 'wildly inaccurate'!
@BlueOcean agreed, can't knock it for being a port, 10m+, and growing (guestimate), Switch owners never had the chance to get it. It is just personally harder as a Wii U owner to justify paying a premium again for pretty much the same game, albeit with true portability.
Couldn't bring myself to buy NSMB again at full price, it does slightly grate on me when I bought PS4 Shadow of the Colossus for the second time day 1 for £24, which was a ground up remaster, and a NSMB port is no cheaper than £40!
Take it this is the same report where Pachter gives himself an A+ on last years predictions re: Switch sales not reaching 20m as he reckons it is tracking to be 13m (he also said in August it won't do above 8m for the year).
@subpopz have to counter that, the 3ds is an important bridge for parents of kids at a young age who might be dubious about aspects of gaming, be it cost, if their child can be trusted not to break it, if content is suitable etc. I have 2 nephews and 1 niece and all 3 have been brought a 2ds in the last year as their first gaming device (no tablets in sight) and this Christmas as a result of a good experience with those there will be a Switch under the tree as a family device.
Last year I mentioned on Push Square (which went down incredibly well!), when Sony was publishing far better than predicted numbers, that Nintendo had given a shot in the arm to the whole games industry and you could attribute at least a small part of PS4's unexpected best ever year to the overwhelming positive gaming vibes that the Switch had generated. Nobody was having it!
It always amazes me whenever this list goes up after the financial report concerning 'Nintendo developed' games people bemoan no 3rd party games. Please Nintendo Life staff can u make this clearer somehow after future reports so we don't have to sit through all these comments.
@GrailUK that is exactly the crux of the matter, converting some mobile Go players to Switch and from what I keep hearing lots of people seem to know someone who is a Go player picking up a Switch just for Let's Go. I hear the counter argument that interest is low, pre-orders are low comparitively, and hype is on the downside. However i'm off the impression the audience potentially buying into this isn't really into declaring their love/interest on gaming forums, or pre-ordering at their local gaming store. Don't play it myself but I bet there is, or going to be, plenty of push on Pokemon Go for the new Switch game.
Tough ask, but possible. Q3/4 last year added a bit over 10m units. I would expect an increase YOY but whether it reaches the extra 5m is wholly dependent on Pokemon Let's Go attracting the somewhat more casual console owner.
@neufel think Dark Cloud is partly owned by Sony, pretty sure Level 5 mentioned they have wanted to make a 3rd but couldn't without Sony approval and they haven't given it, that we know of. *Think it might be the case with Rogue Galaxy also, which means any revival would probably only be on PS anyway.
@Liam_Doolan the list is not about being the 'most recognised brand'. The list is ranked on 'Brand Value' which Interbrand determine themselves based on financial analysis, the role of the brand, and brand strength.
To be fair to Nintendo it's not just them who has had an issue with Amazon. Sony have had their own dispute over the last year with systems and various games taken of their pages for relatively chunky periods. Seem to remember PS4 consoles not being available on Prime Day in the U.S.
@Grumblevolcano implemented something similar at the start of 2016 but for me it is a minimum 2:1 ratio. I cut myself of from yearly 'regurgitated' games like COD, PES, FIFA, Assasins Creed (at the time) etc that I felt offered little more than a new skin or lick of paint. Lastly, unless I felt it was something really special like Splatoon 2 or Rocket League, I stayed away from service games like Destiny, Overwatch, Fortnite etc. Worked wonders for my backlog and game variety and i've never had as much fun as a gamer since the early 90's when I had bags of time it seems.
Wish Konami would sell their IP's and just keep a licence to make pachinko machines with them. They've got no appetite for the video game market and with their IP's it's such a waste.
Given the recent history of Konami I don't think this would have happened by their own volition so fair play to Sony. It is just a real shame as I am sure i'm not the only one who has both PS4 and Switch who would instantly buy on Switch because of the portability factor but being not so sure on PS4.
So looking forward to these as I loved Grandia on PS1, and having never played Grandia 2 was actually browsing with the intention of getting a 2nd hand PS2 or DC version the day before this was announced. Now I know it's neither
To the surprise of no one! Looking forward to getting some web-slinging done myself when my boy stops hogging the PS4 for virtually the only time since getting his gaming PC last Christmas.
@Octane I take your point, thought Bayo had released earlier tbh, however I would still wager the % differential sales figures between vgchartz and actual sales is high; too high.
This isn't necessarily an inclusive list of million sellers on Switch of Nintendo games, it is just their top 10 titles. NLife have added the combined Labo figures in themselves (which Nintendo haven't done in their list) from the financial report info. https://www.nintendo.co.jp/ir/en/finance/software/index.html
@NEStalgia yep can get it online still but Game sold out online, and in store round my way, as did Argos judging from click and collect. Amazon have struggled to keep up think they are getting a new batch in the next day or two if what it said online the other day is still accurate.
P.S. Great to see some appreciation for DKC:TF. Couldn't justify buying it again, yet, but hopefully it's delighting a new audience like it did me on the Wii U.
Don't care for Labo one bit but I can see it's appeal to a certain audience, and while others will engage with it, the main target audience isn't prevalent on Switch yet. Nintendo's general aim is clearly for Labo to sell systems to that audience (and their parents!), and that means a projected steady sales flow for birthdays through the year culminating in Christmas. Any analysis prior to the Christmas period on Labo's success or failure is a waste of time. Incidentally in the individual formats chart for revenue, the Variety and Robot kit placed 7th and 16th this week after being 2nd and 8th last week respectively, make of that what you will.
To be fair to Kirby it is competing against a lot of 'budget' priced games given the various Easter sale discounts. It's still in the top 10 for revenue, as is Ni No Kuni 2 which isn't even in the top 20 for units. I suppose it depends on how you want to quantify what has done well or not, statistics and all that eh.
Wow, yet again the Nintendo execs that message on here are giving us their 'inside information' that something has failed or not based on week 1 sales in Japan! What were people expecting Bayo to do? How many ports/remakes etc, especially single player focused games, do better when comparing first week of sales. Look at the recent Shadow of the Colossus, Okami sales, even PS4 The Last of Us sold a quarter of what it did on PS3 first week in Japan, which given the release timeframes is about as fair a comparison with Bayo as I can think of. I mean, what... about 60% physical sales ratio on a userbase a touch more than Wii U seems reasonable to me, I also imagine digital sales will be up over Wii U adding more to that initial number. XC2 has been a similar story in terms of stock since a week or two after it released so it's great to see it back in the charts albeit driven by it selling at just under £30 at Argos and Amazon.
