Re: Fire Emblem: Three Houses Experiences "Best Digital Launch" In Franchise's History

toffeecrit

@gamer95 and what has that got to do with my comment and reply to @AnnoyingFrenzy? It didn't sell all those in July did it!
To be fair this article talks about being 'third best selling digital game' in July when it should really have stated third highest revenue in July behind BLOPS IIII and GTAV. All I am saying is it is perhaps probable, though not impossible, the top 2 sold less units in JULY than the stated 800,000 for FE3H but raked in more overall revenue through other avenues like buying casino money in GTAV!

@subpopz have to counter that, the 3ds is an important bridge for parents of kids at a young age who might be dubious about aspects of gaming, be it cost, if their child can be trusted not to break it, if content is suitable etc. I have 2 nephews and 1 niece and all 3 have been brought a 2ds in the last year as their first gaming device (no tablets in sight) and this Christmas as a result of a good experience with those there will be a Switch under the tree as a family device.

Re: Nintendo Switch Has "Revived" The Games Market, Says Kadokawa President

Last year I mentioned on Push Square (which went down incredibly well!), when Sony was publishing far better than predicted numbers, that Nintendo had given a shot in the arm to the whole games industry and you could attribute at least a small part of PS4's unexpected best ever year to the overwhelming positive gaming vibes that the Switch had generated. Nobody was having it!

Re: Nintendo Switch Hits 22.86 Million Worldwide Sales, Has Now Outsold The GameCube

toffeecrit

@GrailUK that is exactly the crux of the matter, converting some mobile Go players to Switch and from what I keep hearing lots of people seem to know someone who is a Go player picking up a Switch just for Let's Go. I hear the counter argument that interest is low, pre-orders are low comparitively, and hype is on the downside. However i'm off the impression the audience potentially buying into this isn't really into declaring their love/interest on gaming forums, or pre-ordering at their local gaming store. Don't play it myself but I bet there is, or going to be, plenty of push on Pokemon Go for the new Switch game.

Re: Famitsu Teasing "Possible Revival" For A Cancelled Level-5 Game

toffeecrit

@neufel think Dark Cloud is partly owned by Sony, pretty sure Level 5 mentioned they have wanted to make a 3rd but couldn't without Sony approval and they haven't given it, that we know of. *Think it might be the case with Rogue Galaxy also, which means any revival would probably only be on PS anyway.

Re: Soapbox: Why Do We Want More Games When We've Already Got Too Many?

toffeecrit

@Grumblevolcano implemented something similar at the start of 2016 but for me it is a minimum 2:1 ratio. I cut myself of from yearly 'regurgitated' games like COD, PES, FIFA, Assasins Creed (at the time) etc that I felt offered little more than a new skin or lick of paint. Lastly, unless I felt it was something really special like Splatoon 2 or Rocket League, I stayed away from service games like Destiny, Overwatch, Fortnite etc. Worked wonders for my backlog and game variety and i've never had as much fun as a gamer since the early 90's when I had bags of time it seems.

Re: Nintendo Releases Complete Sales Figures For Its Million-Selling Switch Games

toffeecrit

@Octane jeez VGchartz are a waste of time when it comes to sales figures these days. It's worth as much as quoting Wikipedia as fact on a university paper. The last correct figures on Bayo2 had a sell through of around 380k units 9 weeks after release, (edit, my bad)so up to mid April, who knows where they are now. https://www.nintendolife.com/news/2018/04/the_switch_port_of_bayonetta_2_has_outsold_its_sister_version_on_wii_u

Re: Consumers Go Bananas For Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze In This Week's UK Charts

toffeecrit

Don't care for Labo one bit but I can see it's appeal to a certain audience, and while others will engage with it, the main target audience isn't prevalent on Switch yet. Nintendo's general aim is clearly for Labo to sell systems to that audience (and their parents!), and that means a projected steady sales flow for birthdays through the year culminating in Christmas. Any analysis prior to the Christmas period on Labo's success or failure is a waste of time.
Incidentally in the individual formats chart for revenue, the Variety and Robot kit placed 7th and 16th this week after being 2nd and 8th last week respectively, make of that what you will.

Re: Splatoon 2 Makes A Splash In The Top Three In This Week's Japanese Charts

toffeecrit

Wow, yet again the Nintendo execs that message on here are giving us their 'inside information' that something has failed or not based on week 1 sales in Japan! What were people expecting Bayo to do? How many ports/remakes etc, especially single player focused games, do better when comparing first week of sales. Look at the recent Shadow of the Colossus, Okami sales, even PS4 The Last of Us sold a quarter of what it did on PS3 first week in Japan, which given the release timeframes is about as fair a comparison with Bayo as I can think of.
I mean, what... about 60% physical sales ratio on a userbase a touch more than Wii U seems reasonable to me, I also imagine digital sales will be up over Wii U adding more to that initial number.
Lest we forget we are very early in the Switch life cycle so plenty more potential buyers, not to mention Bayo 3 will act as a sales driver automatically nearer release, especially with the inevitable promotions that will be on Bayo 1 & 2 at that time.
A little bit of perspective would be nice from time to time on these comment boards.
