Update [Tue 21st Jun, 2022 09:10] Ubisoft has revealed that Roller Champions is indeed dropping on Switch today!
The company shared the news on Twitter yesterday, also announcing that Disco Fever season kicks off today. The season brings with it new items, outfits, and a brand new game mode. Check out the trailer below to see what's waiting in the arena for you!
Original article [Mon 20th Jun, 2022 16:15 BST]: Free-to-play rollerblading game Roller Champions launched on Sony and Microsoft consoles last month without any update on the Switch version. However, it looks like we don't have to wait wrong to get slaloming, as the game's eShop listing has been updated with a release date.
This futuristic multiplayer game sees skaters take to arenas to duke it out at 100 miles an hour, and you'll be able to skate it out with others from tomorrow according to the UK eShop listing. That's right, Roller Champions launches on 21st June.
Ubisoft has yet to make an official announcement yet, but we'll be keeping an eye out to see if this really does drop tomorrow. In the meantime, here's an overview of the game from Nintendo's listing:
Skate, tackle, and roll your way up to glory in Roller Champions™. Discover a free-to-play, team PvP sports game like no other!
Welcome to 2032. Arenas are built all over the world and fans rush to the stands to admire their modern-day heroes, the Roller Champions. They roll up to 100 miles an hour, tackle opponents, wall-skate, and dunk while thousands of fans scream their names.
As a Roller Champion, compete in a team of three against three. The rules are simple: take the ball, make a lap while maintaining team-possession, dodge opponents and score. Go for more points by completing additional laps before attempting a goal. After each match, gain fans to compete in bigger arenas. Customize characters and create a unique destiny.
Our friends over at Push Square shared their thoughts on the game back when it launched on PS4 last month, and had this to say:
There's absolutely potential for this game to be great, as the sport at the heart of it is well-realised and most of the gameplay works smoothly. The game just feels a bit sparse, like it's been pushed out before it's truly ready
Hopefully, there's a bit more to dig into now that Roller Champions has been in the arena for a month. And if the game is dropping tomorrow, that means it'll be competing with another free-to-play launch dropping on the Switch on the same day — Fall Guys. However, the speedy gameplay and premise alone have us interested.
Check out the overview trailer for the game below, and let us know if you'll be downloading the game on Switch!

Fall Guys comes out the same day and sadly this game will be forgotten because of that
Yeah I was about to say the same thing about Fall Guys being released same day. The second half of June is loaded with prominent Switch titles. Two big free-to-play titles might also hurt sales of paid releases. It's already got me cancelling preorders as I won't have time for the new releases because I want to check out both of Fall Guys and Roller Champions.
Question: Nintendo has already dipped it's toes into free-to-play titles on mobile. Which Nintendo series, franchise, or IP do you think will go the free-to-play route on the Switch successor?
If this is anything like Ubisoft's other recent releases then it is going to be hot garbage.
I never knew this game released. Did it sell well / got downloaded enough times on other consoles?
Ubisoft please annouced Rainbow six Mobile ver To Switch
I played this on PS4 and it's really a fun game concept. I love the controls and the overall idea. However, it's just too limited and too repetitive. It would probably be really fun in real life, but in a video game, there are only so many times you can skate around a loop before it's not fun anymore.
I'm looking forward to playing this on Switch. I've been playing on PC and it's pretty fun.
@SearchingS
Ubisoft ignore that request. Please keep your subpar games off the Switch thanks
@steventonysmith Yeah, but Roller Champions have better gameplay.
Fall Guys is very slow paced like syrup, and already lost it's momentum over 1 year ago.
@Ventilator
Fall Guys has a personality, Roller Champions doesn't. The visual appeal and gameplay of Fall Guys is suited for the Switch. Roller Champions interested players will play it on a better system
@steventonysmith Yeah. I doubt RC will be that good on Switch.
It's Tegra chip were finalized in 2014 and launched early 2015, so it's quite old.
In fact Switch is miles behind Steam Deck too on hardware.
I wonder how Nintendo will solve this.
@steventonysmith
I'm actually more interested in roller champions.
I love creative ideas for sports games in video games.
In my mind they're way cooler than giving us sports we can actually just go outside and play.
I didn't even know this game released, Ubisoft did a really bad job marketing this game. I thought they were a gaming company, not an idiot!
@SearchingS seriously! People making excuses for them and Activision. We have mobile version of their most popular FPS. Yet they keep slapping switch players in the face by disregarding it. 🤦🏾♂️
Crud now I have two games to try out.
@steventonysmith This game would have been forgotten no matter what. It's a generic Ubisoft game.
@Friendly Didn't do well, in fact its usage numbers are pretty low.
@Ventilator
"Switch is miles behind Steam Deck too on hardware, I wonder how Nintendo will solve this."
They own Mario
I had a ton of fun with the beta on PC ages ago, but haven't played it since it came out because I forget about ubi connect. I'm excited to be able to play this on switch, especially if it's free still! It's a neat concept
JONATHAN! JONATHAN! JONATHAN!
Looks like it shadow dropped on the Japanese eShop. It's on the newsfeed and leads straight to the download page. Gonna check now if I can get in.
@AllieKitsune Who is Jonathan?
@AllieKitsune Thank you, I was starting to think I was the only one who remembered Rollerball at this point.
It's honestly a terrible idea for a video game, though. Rollerball wasn't supposed to be a fun sport, it was supposed to be an illustration of the bloodlust of a society that was completely broken.
Oh, wait.
It looks interesting and free, but Ubishaft and released on the same day as Fall guys.
Very bad idea for a release date.
@NerdyPandaPlays
Like that helped Wii U and Virtua Boy sales...
@Ventilator But it worked for NES, Gameboy, SNES, Nintendo64, DS, 3DS, Gamecube, Switch...
Really not sure what you were trying to get at with that comment.
Likewise with your point about Steamdeck having better hardware than a system released 5 years ago. Nintendo was never into the hardware game, they'll never beat the competition on that front.
Roller Champions very disappointing.
Looking forward to Fall Guys.
@thinkhector
Seriously no one ever should forgo a proper full release title for a F2P, that's what is hurting the gaming industry people who think like you
Anyone know when it's actually playable? It keeps saying to try again later.
@thinkhector
Splatoon would make the most sense, but I could also see a game like F-Zero becoming a F2P racer, with a season pass and everything
I hope Nintendo never makes a F2P game for Switch.
Will try this later this week. Been waiting on this. Need to play knockout kings too.
@Nin10doh
Wii U had a long list of great exclusives, but still failed. I bought Wii U at launch and never regretted it...
Point is. They can't release same Wii U system power for the third time.
AMD is in forefront of handheld chips now, and Nintendo uses NVIDIA.
Anyways. Steam Deck is not a competitor to Switch at all as it's aimed at PC players who already use Steam.
The hardware inside Steam Deck is almost 2 years old now if you didn't know.
Steam Deck were late to the PC handheld game, but most famous because Valve is behind it.
My point is that Switch is in reality using hardware from year 2012 (Wii U). Time for a upgrade.
I'll need a review but the premise is certainly interesting.
Looks like it could be fun. Kinda off topic but the music in the Disco trailer makes me think of the movie Climax. Anybody seen that one....
Hoo boy
Ubisoft is a disappointment but I guess I'm ready to let myself get disappointed again, the bar is low.
I’d rather their snowboarding/extreme sports game.
Nintendo should really revive 1080 and WaveRace. A new Excite- game would be good too.
@Ventilator I mean yeah but overall their exclusives have been their biggest selling points, not their consoles themselves. That's why they're willing to push out underpowered consoles like the Wii or GameBoy but pack in some neat gimmicks and a decent price tag and get people interested anyways. The Wii U and Virtual Boy didn't just fail because the console wasn't that great, they really didn't get that much support near the beginning of their lifecycles (or for the Virtual Boy, any support at all) in terms of marketing and must-buy titles. The Steam Deck has a lot of games and IPs going for it. Like, a lot. But it'll never have MarioKart. Or Smash Bros. Or Animal Crossing. So it'll always be a step behind when it comes to appealing to slightly more casual markets or the fans of Nintendo franchises. (Which there are a lot of. Ever hear of Pokémon?)
I see this game and i remember of DEATHROW, one of the best sports game ever (xbox, first generation). We need a Deathrow 2!
I tried it out last night, it was alright I guess. Honestly, I need to spend a bit more time with it before making a proper decision.
@NerdyPandaPlays Yeah, especially Mario Kart which usually sells to 50% of console owners.
On Wii U i think 60-70% bought MK 8. In fact Wii U version were far more hyped than Switch version because of Luigi Stare, YouTube replays etc. YouTube were removed on Switch version.
To be fair Wii U got great support for exclusives, and got custom upgraded Wii U versions of NFS Most Wanted, Tekken Tag Tournament etc. Also. Rayman Legends, Deus EX HM and Ninja Gaiden 3 RE were designed for Wii U, and later ported.
Both Call of Duty games on Wii U. Many other games have a lot of custom features like Mass Effect 3, Batman Arkham etc.
Even with the long list of Wii U exclusives being ported to Switch, people still beg for more Wii U ports in 2022 as some of the major exclusives on it is still not on Switch.
Virtual Boy can't really be compared to any other Nintendo failure.
