Re: Round Up: Yooka-Laylee's Scores Are In, And Critics Appear Divided

@Moon
"To me, it doesn't look like the characters control as well as they did in, say, Conker's BFD or Banjo Tooie."

Many would disagree with you.

Here is one random review that disagrees with you.

http://webcache.googleusercontent.com/search?q=cache:s-GCDgCZT9wJ:www.brashgames.co.uk/2017/04/01/yooka-laylee-review/+&cd=1&hl=en&ct=clnk&gl=au

"What makes it great though is the control scheme. Controlling Yooka and Laylee together is an absolute joy with the two effortlessly moving between combat and platforming with ease. Projectiles are a bit awkward and the occasionally stuttering frame rate can annoy from time to time, but those really are the only blots on an otherwise stellar report card."

Nintendolife . . . really?

"So there you have it; after all the hype, crowdfunding success and months of development, Yooka-Laylee appears to have landed with a thud rather than splash,"

You believe this ****. That's so disappointing.
The facts are the reviews are can't even agree on what is good controls and what is a major or minor frame rate issue. Some of the reviews praise the controls, other reviews call the controls garbage. Sone of the reviews say the frame rate issues are very minor, others say the frame rate issues are major and suck the fun out of the game.

Critic reviews not knowing what basic issues with games are resulting in mixed reviews, does not make a game terrible. It makes the reviewers very incinsistent in their quality of reviews overall.

The sad part here is the mixed reviews (mostly doe to garbage factually incirrect reviews) will taint the success of this very good game. This game is really good, just with a few very minor issues.

A number of critics (for reasons I don't know) want to hate on this game and are making up bull**** to do so.

Also many of the reviews hate on this game because it is Yooka-Layleeand not a Banjo-Kazooie sequel. The game is not exactly what they wanted so they hate on it. The nostalgia bias is strong here sadly.

I'm surprised NintendoLife is not understanding this and writing crap like this in an article. Review don't make a game. This game is rather good.

Don't blame the game because the reviewers are not writing proper factually correct reviews here. Blame the reviewers. They caused this, not Playtonic.

Re: Playtonic Removes JonTron's Voice from Yooka-Laylee

@brandonbwii
You are anti free speech, we get it. You don't want others to have the same rights of free speech as you do.

JonTron said some controversial things. The issue here is not what he said, but how he said them. People called him out on them and said show us your evidence. He had none. This persisted for a long time. That's why Playtonic did what they did.

You can argue over the truthfulness of what he said, but what is fact, is how he said those things was quite discriminatory. If he had taked in a calm fact based manner without sensationalising his opinion, then nothing would have happened. He chose to be an idiot and paid the price for it.

Just like the SJW snowflakes (the media are some of them) are paying the price for their idiocy as well.

@brandonbwii
He had the right to use his freedom of speech. People just called him out on what he said, their right to do that.

I am aware SJW snowflakes are everywhere and prevent opinions they do not like from being heard. They vocalise their hate on certain opinions every single day. I just hope Playtonic are doing this because of the PR disaster this has become and not because they are SJW snowflakes.

Just a use the exploit and bring heavy weapons, shields and byes with you. Sure you lose what you bring with you after you complete the challenge but makes it a whole lot easier.

How to to the exploit?
You do always start with nothing each time. But if you stand in the water and drop gear right next to the shore but still with your feet in the water, you can ouch up said dropped gear after you have walked on land to officially start the challenge.

This exploit I would guess was not intended by the developers but it sure works well.

I hope there is nothing about Robin Williams in the game. That man off screen was not the nicest. Many times, even on our national television, he shared his hatred for Australia. Not just, meh don't like the place. It was a real hatred, to the point of telling others to never come here.

That plus many other reasons make me not like Robin Williams. I hope anything related to him is not polluting this fine Zelda game.

Re: Hardware Review: Nintendo Switch: Nintendo's Most Important Console Yet

the8thark

The Switch UI is bad. Terribly bad.

The theme you choose does not carry over to the eShop. I have dark mode on but that does not carry over to the eShop
No music in the eShop
The eShop is boring. It's not as info fulled and as fun as the WiiU eShop
The main UI screen is boring. No music, no folders to neatly organise games. Just one long list with so far 12 boxes there for games. Does it add more there once you get more than 12? Will folders e implimented one day for easier access to your games? Having to scroll through 30+ games every time would be so boring.
Where's the quick start menu?
The pathetic attempt at humour and layout of the information articles is terrible. It seems so childish, the opposite of what Nintendo is striving for with the Switch.

Overall, the WiiU UI is better than the Switch UI.
This is quite disappointing. I do think the hardware is top notch and I am a fan of it, but the Switch UI? That's terrible.

"The Q1 launch is one of the smartest moves Nintendo could have done. Instead of pushing units out during the heaviest time of the year (in Q4), this allows them to build a base. So by holiday, we can focus on games."

Gamestop are idiots if they believe this.
The reason Nintendo is doing this is to have the March Switch sales make their annual financial report (for the year ending 31st March) look better.

Nintendo could have chosen April or May or whenever that is not in the holiday season but they did not. They wanted the Switch sales count towards this Nintendo financial year.

Re: Nintendo Switch Dips to €299 on Amazon France

the8thark

@rjejr Do you know that Nintendo of Australia / New Zealand exists? They set the Australian prices, not Nintendo of Europe.

Not many people know this but now you do. Europe covers their prices and Australia covers its own prices.

This does make your above post factually incorrect.

Note well, Nintendo Life get a percentage of the sale if you use their links. Nintendo life, I like them alot, but they should have been upfront about this information.

It's not cool that they didn't tell us this. They want us to support them? Then they should share this info up front.

This is a paid advertisment by Nintendo Life. Take that however you want to. I just thought everyone here should know the full information.

[edit] I might just support Nintendo Life. As I quite like what Alex and Co do.

Re: Video: Let's Weigh Up the Good & Bad Things About the Nintendo Switch

the8thark

@maceng That's not my worry. What I am worried about is features left off the Switch version because the 3DS is not powerful enough. A good example fo this is Ice Climbers from SSB4. They were only remobed from the WiiU version because the 3DS version could not handle them and Sakurai wanted both versions the same.

I don't want Switch Fire Emblem Warriors features removed only because they can't be done on the 3DS. Ie. the Swich version dumbed down to the level of the 3DS just to have both versions the same.

Re: Video: Let's Weigh Up the Good & Bad Things About the Nintendo Switch

the8thark

My points.

Good:
1. Hardware
Very professionally made. Looks like a premium piece of kit. A lot of tech inside.

2. Form and Function were considered by Nintendo.
The Joycons and Pro Controller have lots of tech inside that all do good things. But they also feel very good in the hands. They are seriously fun to use.

3. Game line up
The first year looks rather good. Not too much all at once so there's less competition for game sales. For example, no point putting out too many titles at launch because for a month or so everyone will be into BotW. Spread them out over the year and it's all good.

4. Advertising
Nintendo is advertising the Switch as they should be. Getting it into the hand of as many people as possible. Fueling the hype train. Something that simply didn't happen with the WiiU. People know what the Switch is, they understand it and they are happy after they use it.

5. Screen
Looks great. Has a great contrast ratio. Doesn't matter that it's 720p as the ppi is relatively high and the colours are very vivid and stand out. This is a high quality screen.

Bad:
1. The Price.
279.99 UK
469.95 Aus
Way too expensive. Even if you take into account tax and currency conversion. Sure I guess we're getting what we paid for but it's a bitter pill to swallow.

2. Potential use of the touch screen
Most games want to be the same in portable and docked mode. This means few will use touch screen as that's not available in docked mode. Will some games be made for portable mode only with the use of touch screen? I feel Nintendo forgot to think about this when designing the Switch.

3. 1,2 Switch
Should have been a pack in game with the hardware. A stand alone game at full price? No one will buy it. I certainly will not.

4. Different Limited Editions for different regions.
The BotW Limited Edition does not have the Switch carrying case in Australia. For the UK fans, they miss out on the Switch carryinf case and the map. Totaly unacceptable to deny the UK and Australian fans access to all of the Limited Edition loot without importing from the US or Japan.

5. The same game for Switch and 3DS.
We had Hyrule Warriors and Smash Bros 4. Both games were on the WiiU and 3DS. Many features for both were left out from both consoles because the 3DS could not handle them. Now we get a repeat with Fire Emblem Warriors on the Switch and 3DS. Will any features be left out of both the Switch and 3DS versions because the 3DS can't handle them?
The 3DS got it's own new FE game. Why make FE-W for both consoles as well? Makes zero sense.

Re: Soapbox: Nintendo's Switch Plan is Starting to Take Shape

the8thark

My opinions?

1. The Australian price sucks hard. $469.95. Lots of pain there.
2. The hardware is totally amazing. It's as good as Alex said it is. Really pushing the envelope to new and better palces.
3. The games are all good. Sure some are more niche than others and not everyone will love all the games but most of them are good.
4. 1,2 Switch should be a hardware bundle game. A good demo of how the joycons work. Would I ever buy this as a stand along game? Never.
5. The launch lineup is fine. Every month more games are coming. It's not the WiiU that had tons of games day 1. Most didn't sell because there was just too many and because of that months post launch barren with few good titles. The first year for the Switch looks great. If you like nothing day 1 there's always more within the first year for you. I agree with Reggie when he said as long as there's a killer title day 1, then the first year means more than the first day. BotW day 1 is the kilelr title the WiiU didn't have day 1 then every month you have a killer title. Works well.
