This is mostly the reviewer hating on the game without understanding what an emipres game is and the compromises needed to get this kind of game into the Switch.
The reviewer also clearly fails to understand that emipres games are not just hack and slash like standard Warriors games. You need to stop and think about the political aspects and other things inbetween battles. Actually do some research and learn. Not just jump blindly into the game and complain when you fail due to a lack of preparation.
The review this ends up sounding like - "I hate this game but since my job demands I review it, I can put all of my hate into the review"
Those people who are worried about the magirock. For the most part just treat them as a collectable thing and that's it. They are great to search out and collect. The magic though, just forget about it. Apart from healing yourself during the Queen fight (toughest boss in the game) magic is 100% not needed to beat the game.
As far as I know I think one or two of the magirock are unobtainable. Programming/game design errors there. So if the game was remade I am sure that would be fixed. But if it's a straight port, it's good information to know. There is no prizes for collecting them though.
The other issue the game has is you can not hold one of each weapon/armour in the game. Not enough stash space. You can't delete the important ones but the others you can and have to, if the stash is full. This needs a fix for a remastered version of the game, because you can not sell anything in the game and earning each weapon/armour once and having them all there to choose from would make a nice addition. Adds nothing to the game from a practical sense, but it's just nice for completionists.
Everything else about the game is 100% amazing and that is why it is my favourite SNES game ever. I am Australian and thus did own it on cart back in the day. I did sell all my SNES games many years later. No regrets though
Also as an aside my username here is in part based off this game. The Ark part is after the Ark from Terranigma.
Correct. However it's a case of hats. People put their customer hat on when looking for the right game to buy, but they wear their investor hat when talking the stockmarket and the performance of the companies they are invsted into (in this case Nintendo)
NintendoLife showing yet again they have zero understanding of how the stock market works.
The osborne effect will happen a little so the hardware sales will be down a little till the OLED releases. Secondly this year has had more hardware sales but less software sales. Mostly because Animal Crossing last year was the unexpected bump which was not replicated this year.
Thirdly stock usually drops after any good event. People see that as a highpoint and want get out. The longer term (months at the shortest) after the event is a better indication. It's how long the stock price takes to rebound is hat matters more.
Also that the article from NL fails to mention is the next year predictions/forecasts. They are lower. That is probably what is driving some investors to sell. Not any of Nintendo's past performances.
@Madao The article is not as on point as you think. You are thinking like a customer, not an investor. The investors care more about future predictions and how they compare to the past performance. As in how close are the past predictions when compared to the past results.
Also the fact that next year's predictions are down is another thing investors would consider.
Actually hardware sales are up but software sales are down. Though the investors would be more interested in the total earnings as well as the margins, which are also down a little.
People need to start thinking like an investor when they talk the stock market.
Humans, turtles, turtle monsters (bowser), walking mushrooms (Toads), whatever birdo is, dinosaurs (Yoshi), apes (Donkey Kong), squids (bloopers), goombas and so on and so on.
So where is this lack of diversity in the Mario IP you are talking about? I do not see it.
NintendoLife cares about virtue signaling nonsense.
Nintendo thankfully does not.
Nintendo needs to keep being Nintendo and ignore the vitrue signaling that certain groups are pushing.
There is a ton of diversity in Nintendo 1st party games already. Different races different genders.
Also look at the characters in Nintendo games.
Humans, foxes, squids, octopuses, turtle monsers (bowser), dinosaurs, whatever thing Birdo is, walking mushrooms (toads), pikmin, the entire zoo of animals in Animal Crossing, etc etc.
Tons of diversity.
This is just a small portion of the comunity ignoring the diversity that already exists because it does not fit their discriminatory narative.
This whole article reeks of discrimination. It totally ignores all the diversity that does exist in Nintendo games.
These days PC is just that, Personal Computer. The old x68 compatable definition of the word was a slightly incorrect defition that many people used to use.

The Pokemon Company damaged their own reputation more by the poor effort they put into sword and shield.
In short two idiots broke their contract and the pokemon company saw it as an opportunity to make more $$ via a higher punishment figure. Sure 150k is peanut money to the Pokemon Company but still is corporate greed.
Agreed. The core game is there but the GBG devs never worked out how to make the objects travel in a back and forth look like the real game. So they just had the objects despawn and respawn in.
Not even close to the real thing. NintendoLife obviously has not played VVVVVV in a long time. However the core gameplay is there and under the limitations of GBG this is a really cool projct.

Stocks always drop after a good showing at an event. Happens for every company, not just nintendo.
Why?
Some people feel after the event things can only go down from there because the event is good. So they sell their shares. This lowers the overall price of the shares.

Add in no physical manufacturing and shipping costs.
This is doomed to fail.
They will be lucky to break even if they do an open pre-order and get enough for a small print run.

[edit] I have been hit with the censorship bot. Shame on Nintendolife. I like you a lot but censorship is not cool.
@Alex78 The video has been on youtube for almost a week now with the teaser screen giving us all this information. My the time I was made aware of it's existance on the 14th of May, it was already known to everyone in the community and many outside of it too.
This is old news and NintendoLife is very late to the party.
NintendoLife very slow to this news. This is old news now. Everyone knows about it and has for like 2 weeks now. Looks like the folks at NL don't care much for Dragon Quest.
@Bizaster This is exactly why the comment sections here are often better than the reviews they follow. I've literally bought games based on review comments and the game (in my opinion) as closer to what the comments said.
Epic is showing their ***** side here. Console exclusives are exactly that for a reason. They help drive sales of the console they are on - or in MS case help sell gamepass.
Most of the console games comnig to PC are late ports anyway, after the bulk of the console sales are done so no harm to Sony/MS bottom line.
The most Epic can hope for is late ports. Nintendo is off the table, even Epic are not that ***** to realise this. Nintendo game sell and keep selling. The bulk of the sales are not "done" after a year or whatever like PS or Xbox games. Nintendo know this and that's why they stay exclusive.
A crap ton of Nintendo made games sold over 1m last year, that didn't even release last year (ie released earlier).
The conclusions here are
for Playstation - It's a wait and see thing. I think it might happen for late ports. For Xbox - nope. Because gamepass and because MS are doing the same thing through their studio acquisitions. For Nintendo - hard nope. Late PC ports of Nintendo made games make zero sense when Nintendo games still sell years after release.
Lame in your opinion. We should be holding reviews to account. I guess it's just mny wishful thinking that holding reviews to account means the reviewers will take note and actually imprive the quality of their future reviews.
Very wishful thinking sadly. I reckon at most these comments will be ignored and the future reviews will not be improved.
For context - I'm here commenting because the standard of reviews on NL is beter than most. They have a long way to go before they are very good, but they are so much better than the garbage other sides put up and try to call a review.
I just want NL to improve their reviews from kinda good to really good. That's all.
Focus on a quality review, not a rushed first to release review.
Also I never said it's a 10/10 game. That's your words not mine. I'm just going off the whole review and my experiences with multiple musou games which I have played in the past.
I'm not a fan of arbitary scure numbers anyway. Bowever is the game good? it should be but I'll know more after I play it. I just spoke up regarding the reviwer's lack of knowledge of the subject matter that's all.
The review is pretty good as I said above considering the reviewer doesn't know much about musou games or Persona. I say this because any knowledge they might have is not at all shown in the review. One would assume if they had the knowledge it'd be in the review.
@nimnio
Yes. I read all of the review content (for the reviews I read) and then the pros/cons to see if they match up with the body of the review.
I don't take much notice of the score because most of the time it's just an arbitary number that doesn't at all relate to the content in the review. This is an industry wide issue though.
Musou games are all about grinding. That's not really a con but you could say it's something about the genre the reviewer hated. It's not specific to this musou game.
The gets less challenging once you can make your own healing and SP items.
Well duh? I never guessed that is a thing. If you don't want this, then don't make the items. That simple. Calling that a con is just silly.
Is the camera really that bad? Hard to know till I play the game but most who played the JP port didn't find that to be an issue.
Not sure the reviewer knows what a musou game even is.
That aside, this is a pretty good review. It sounds like someone who does not know what musou is and had not played Persona 5 and was told "this review is your job to write". They did a good job considering their limited knowledge of the subject matter.
This is an outright lie.
The rights of the game are with RARE (ie MS) and the movie studio that own the 007 franchise. Both need to agree for it to happen. Nintendo don't have a say as it's not their IP.
I'm nothing special. I'm just stating the obvious. They should know more than me. That's why they are the official reviewers and I am not. However a little feedback never goes astray.
@Mince It's all cool.
I'm sure Panic Button realised this but I'm not so sure bethesda/iD did. The game on Switch is not pretty graphically. I think everyone here agrees on this.
I think DOOM Eternal really asks one important question. How much compromise is too much just to get a game on the Switch?
A proof of concept is a cool thing, from a geeky developer point of view and from us going wow, the impossible port. But in reality there should be a limit where the compromises are just too much and the porting team just says, "we can do it but the level of compromise required makes it not worth it"
@scully1888
Just because people have done reviews for years, they can still make mistakes. Many long term reviewers have zero clue on how to write proper reviews. It's an issue within the industry.
Secondly we both agree the graphics have taken a substational hit. No one is denying that. What we disagree on is the context. Should compromises be listed as cons? That's an agree to disagree situation.
Also you failed to mention that one of the most important "joys" which you mentioned in the review (yes I read it all) was not listed as a joy - the frame rates. I guess we agree to disagree how important frame rates are in first person shooter games.
I did say your review here is one of the better reviews on NintendoLife and I stand by that. I do thank you for taking the time to write it.
You did mention technical things like graphical quality, frame rates and how the game actual plays in motion in the body of the review. This information is rarely spoken about in any review and most here don't have this information. So you actually mentioning it is a good thing and that's why (in part) I think your review overall is pretty good (apart from the summary at the end).
We all know that almost every video game review score is meaningless as they rarely match up with the content of the review. It's the meat of the reviews that matter more.
Most of the time I just ignore the final review score as I don't want that to bias me to the rest of the review that might be good. A single number doesn't make a review good or bad, it's the review content that does this.
Also the review summary should reflect the content of the review. What many reviews fail to understand is compromises are not a con. As an example, more aggressive dynamic resolution scaling existing so the Switch port is even possible is a fair compromise.
Saying the graphics are bad - that's a con is totally wrong.
However letting people know that the portability comes at the cost of heady dynamic resolution scaling and other comprimises is the better way to go. People have the choice, on a fixed screen and looks great OR portable abd lower resolution. Neither choice is a con because both options are a compromise. Neither option has top notch graphics AND portability.
Your review compared the Switch port too much to the PS4 port instead of trying to understand why the Switch port exists in the first place and what compromises needed to happen.
A compromise that needed to happen so something exist is not a con. It's a compromise.
In the review you say:
"The fact the game’s frame rate is so solid helps ensure that some of the filters and blur tricks that have been applied to the enemies are almost indistinguishable in motion."
How in hell is that not a "joy" in the summary?
A solid frame rate for an FPS game is a literally what people look for and it existing is easily a pro and should have been listed in the summary.
That's why I read entire reviews, not just the end summaries because often the summaries either mistakenly or intentionally leave out many of the pros and cons the games actually have.
The review here is mostly decent. That's better than most of the reviews here and does deserve credit.
However saying the graphics are a con is 100% ignoring the fact that this is a Switch game. The reviewer is saying "worse than PS4, there for con". Totally doesn't understand what the Switch port is.
"proof of concept" is the better term. The fact this port exists at all is amazing. Playing DOOM Eternal on the train or plane or crapper, that's huge. Panic Button worked their magic yet again.
I can agree with you to the point that without playing P5 you won't have the attachment to the characters that is expected of you for the spin off game.
The same deal for P4D. You can enjoy P4D on it's own. But you'll enjoy it so much more after coming from P4 or P4G because you'll have the attachment of the characters built up.
I'll probably get this on PS4 because Musou games don't fare too well on Switch. P5S is not that well optimised so it'll have less slow downs and better load times on the PS4. And even better when I get a PS5 sometime in 2021 when the scalpers stop scalping after realising their scalped stock is not selling.
If you have played any mainline Persona games, then you will know that having the main sory plot point spoiled doesn't matter too much. It's how that point is reached as well as the confidant stories that are the meat of the games. Even semi-spoiled, you can still really enjoy those.
I was spoiled for P4G but it's cool because there is still so much about the story that I don't know and am experiencing now.
That's if you have played a Persona game before. You comment above doesn't suggest that you have.
I do thank NintendoLife for being this to our attention.
Of the 4 accounts I have
Australia - Not affected North America / USA - Is affected Japan - Is affected UK - Not affected
I've obviously switched it off on those two accounts. I will never let google take any of my data. I do use google for a couple of things (due to there being to better solution) however I do this in a virtualised sandbox where I monitor all traffic going in and out to make sure only app data is being transfered and none of my personal data is being taken. The sandbox blocks all in and outgoing traffic apart from the specific things I need to use.

For Xbox - nope. Because gamepass and because MS are doing the same thing through their studio acquisitions.
For Nintendo - hard nope. Late PC ports of Nintendo made games make zero sense when Nintendo games still sell years after release.
Re: Review: Persona 5 Strikers - Much More Than Your Average Musou Spin-Off
@nimnio
Re: Review: Persona 5 Strikers - Much More Than Your Average Musou Spin-Off
@nimnio
Re: Review: Persona 5 Strikers - Much More Than Your Average Musou Spin-Off
@nimnio
Yes. I read all of the review content (for the reviews I read) and then the pros/cons to see if they match up with the body of the review.
I don't take much notice of the score because most of the time it's just an arbitary number that doesn't at all relate to the content in the review. This is an industry wide issue though.
Re: Review: Persona 5 Strikers - Much More Than Your Average Musou Spin-Off
Musou games are all about grinding.
Re: Nintendo Executive Blocked Remake Of GoldenEye 007, Says Former Rare Dev
This is an outright lie.
The rights of the game are with RARE (ie MS) and the movie studio that own the 007 franchise. Both need to agree for it to happen. Nintendo don't have a say as it's not their IP.
Re: Video: We're Not All That Impressed With Balan Wonderworld's Free Demo
It looks far better than Hat In Time, even in it's current state.
Re: The Man Behind The Ninja Gaiden Reboot Thinks Ryu Hayabusa Is Perfect For Smash Bros Ultimate
The NES version of Ryu Hayabusa would be perfect.
However I feel we'd get the modern interpretation instead.

Re: Review: DOOM Eternal - This 'Impossible' Port Is Nothing Short Of A Miracle
@TheLightSpirit
I'm nothing special. I'm just stating the obvious. They should know more than me. That's why they are the official reviewers and I am not. However a little feedback never goes astray.
@Mince
It's all cool.
But in reality there should be a limit where the compromises are just too much and the porting team just says, "we can do it but the level of compromise required makes it not worth it"
Re: Review: DOOM Eternal - This 'Impossible' Port Is Nothing Short Of A Miracle
@Mince
Yes
(Your sarcasm noted)
@scully1888
Re: Review: DOOM Eternal - This 'Impossible' Port Is Nothing Short Of A Miracle
@scully1888
Re: Review: DOOM Eternal - This 'Impossible' Port Is Nothing Short Of A Miracle
The review here is mostly decent. That's better than most of the reviews here and does deserve credit.
However saying the graphics are a con is 100% ignoring the fact that this is a Switch game. The reviewer is saying "worse than PS4, there for con". Totally doesn't understand what the Switch port is.
"proof of concept" is the better term. The fact this port exists at all is amazing. Playing DOOM Eternal on the train or plane or crapper, that's huge. Panic Button worked their magic yet again.
Re: Persona 5 Strikers Is Coming To Western Switch Consoles In February 2021
@GameOtaku
Re: Persona 5 Strikers Is Coming To Western Switch Consoles In February 2021
I'll probably get this on PS4 because Musou games don't fare too well on Switch. P5S is not that well optimised so it'll have less slow downs and better load times on the PS4. And even better when I get a PS5 sometime in 2021 when the scalpers stop scalping after realising their scalped stock is not selling.
Re: Persona 5 Strikers Is Coming To Western Switch Consoles In February 2021
@GameOtaku
Re: Persona 5 Strikers Is Coming To Western Switch Consoles In February 2021
This is a sequel of sorts to P5. It's also it's own story.
Similar to how P4D is a sequel fo P4 as well as it's own story.
Re: PSA: By Default, Nintendo Now Collects Data Through Google Analytics On Switch eShop (North America)
I do thank NintendoLife for being this to our attention.
Of the 4 accounts I have
Australia - Not affected
North America / USA - Is affected
Japan - Is affected
UK - Not affected
I've obviously switched it off on those two accounts.
I will never let google take any of my data. I do use google for a couple of things (due to there being to better solution) however I do this in a virtualised sandbox where I monitor all traffic going in and out to make sure only app data is being transfered and none of my personal data is being taken.
The sandbox blocks all in and outgoing traffic apart from the specific things I need to use.
