Re: Nintendo Switch Surpasses 140 Million Sales As Company Acknowledges Successor

superavel

@JohnnyMind Depending on how the Super Switch goes, it might be best to kill it after 10 years so that it doesn't continue to eat into the sales of the Super Switch sales.
Sony was greedy with the PS2 and kept selling it way into the PS3's life cycle. By FY/2008 PS3 was only selling about 10million units to almost 8 million PS2es.

Total sales of the Switch should be about 180million+ anyway assume only 15% more sales was made after the launch of the Super Switch.

Just in comparison:
22.5% of total 3DSes sold was after the launch of the Switch; 16.3% of total DSes sold was after the launch of the 3DS;
36.5% of the total GBAs sold was after the launch of the DS;

Re: Nintendo Switch Surpasses 140 Million Sales As Company Acknowledges Successor

superavel

@Kapten_N They don't need a price cut. Consoles don't stop selling immediately after the next one is launched so based on momentum alone, it already has won. They will already beat the DS by the time the Super Switch comes out by March 2025.

Nearly 22.5% of total 3DS sold was after the launch of the Switch. 16.3% of total DS sold was after the launch of the 3DS and 36.5% of the total GBA sold was after the launch of the DS.

So if we assume a full 10 year run of the Switch and about 15% of final Switch sales are from after the Super Switch launches.
That means an 8 million forecast by FYI March 2026, 5 million by FYI 2027 and 2 million by FYI 2028 at least before they manually kill it off by just not making anymore games or hardware.

Total sales should be about 180million+.

Re: Nintendo Switch "Lifetime US Unit Sales" Surpass Xbox 360

superavel

@ninty_junkie77 THIS! I've actually looked into it and if you considered 3DS-WiiU sales as part of the same gen, DS/Wii is still much stronger so its actually a slight decline for Nintendo.
255,650,000 DS/Wii were sold compared to 225,450,000 3DS/WiiU-Switch. (11% decline but Switch still selling). However, they're essentially selling 3x the hardware at a higher price too so more money is earnt. Just that life is shorter for a lot of them.

Edit: Sony and Microsoft strongest gen was also the 7th. 169,400,000 PS3/PSP sold and 84,000,000 X360 sold compared to 116,000,000 PS4/PSV vs 51,000,000 XBO. A 40% decline for Xbox and 32% for PlayStation.

Edit 2: There's also a lot more overlap during that gen so we could say the 7th Gen is the strongest gen by far. It lasted 13 years (2004-2017) with the 8th standing so far for 11 (2012-Now) and 6th lasting 15 (1998-2013). However, sales wise, it remains the highest with more competitors old and new online.

Edit 3: If Nintendo Switch is to become the best selling console of all time (About 20m needed at this point), it mean they come close to defying market expectations which has shown a pretty steep decline for the other two. It's still about 10 million off from beating DS/Wii numbers but it is doing well. So depending on how you look at it, Nintendo is simultaneously strong and weak. lol

Re: Nintendo Switch "Lifetime US Unit Sales" Surpass Xbox 360

@electrolite77 I was never confused at the messaging of the Wii U. I think it was largely that it came way too late and was overpriced that got to me. I remember hearing the price and was gulping and felt my heart sank. I ended up buying a Wii U near the end of life (2015/16, I think) and basically didn't get around to using it much and that was only because it was hugely discounted at Big W for like AUD$140 or something like that. Most people had moved on then NX project by then which turned out to be true and was the Switch.

Edit: If it had just been a HD GamePad by itself that connected to the Wii and WiiMotes, I bet it would have sold a lot more cause I think that's what people wanted it to be. It also is the first modern console to introduce co-current of a Pro and Standard model that the Series S | X and Xbox One S and X now did/do.

Re: Two Switch Games Will "No Longer Be Available" On The eShop

superavel

@SBandy1 I was VERY specific with what was said and I am posting a reply to a comment in an article with added speculation. Yet, speculation in and of itself CAN be new information, can it not?

Not everyone follows the Twitter but I'm not exactly sure how extrapolating regurgitation of source material of the information ADDED more value if not for clickbait. If accuracy and not wanting to mislead is important then keep the report simple and to the point thus the article could have been much shorter. There is also no need for " " in "No Longer Be". Is that meant to suggest it's a joke or nuance for something else? Instead, I would simply use: "Two NISA Switch Games will Soon be No Longer Sold on eShop" is far more meaningful and accurate title. It could also be longer with precise points on what was research and relevantly concluded information or extrapolated information that could be extremely relevant in the article itself. Not sure if it can be done but comments for stuff like this can also be turned off or limited to vote boxes for simple questions.

People have already mentioned that meaning of words has been lost and or recycled to mean something else but the thing about articles like these is that it is DESIGNED to attract comments and reactions thus ARE deceptively clickbait which is basically the definition of what that is. Articles with comment sections generate discussion and that WILL always somehow lead to "misleading" and off topic information even if the article itself was somehow 100% accurate.

Your previous comment for example summed up to "not everyone follows NISAmerica's Twitter thus it is news to most of us". It is thus subjective. It doesn't make that aspect of it wrong, but it makes the intend of it off point to the whole article. My comments are a reply to your comments which in turn were replies to comments of this article being clickbait. Thus, it HAS misled and therefore worked as it has changed the whole topic of the article and what was asked.

If I apply this to a YouTube video, I'm sure most of us are not looking for IGN's "Director's Cut" of Tears of the Kingdom ad which whilst convenient to some, most of us just goes to the source if available. Nor would I consider Arlo's (and the millions of Youtubers) reaction or opinions to Tears of the Kingdom reveal in a Direct be "news" despite them being fun to watch or listen to.

News is actually meant to be accurate, boring and mostly comment free. Engagement should be limited, simple and on point of what is asked of relevant article. We could partly blame that tools are not yet available to do this effectively in a way that financially benefits the writer for their time and assists readers but a lot of it simply just how news is applied and works as a whole.

Anyway, I've been way too verbose, my point is that the article could have been simplier. It honestly, and probably doesn't really need a comment section for engagement in cases like this. A like and a vote box would probably suffice.

Have a good one.

Re: Two Switch Games Will "No Longer Be Available" On The eShop

superavel

@SBandy1 Er...because context is being left out? As @Daggot said, its likely due to the publishing license expiring and NIS probably haven't made enough money from it to justify renewing or continue paying for it to still be on the eShop. You can still continue to download the game digitally if you have it and physical copies were out of stock ages ago. Thus, there is no "news" as NL just simply regurgitated what NISA already posted via Twitter without clarifying or presenting new information or context through their own research.

Edit: News = "newly received or noteworthy information, especially about recent events". Supposedly it derived from the French "nouvelles", literally "new things". The word commonly used before "news" came into usage was "tidings" which meant "announcement of event".

Re: Poll: What Did You Think Of The February 2023 Nintendo Direct?

superavel

My vote went to Fashion Dreamer. It was a pretty good direct. Pretty much every release interested me even when I don't have the game (such as Splatoon 3 and XC3) or its only DLC (like Engage).

Most hyped for Pikmin 4, Fashion Dreamer, Advance Wars 1+2: Re-Boot Camp, GBA games, Metroid Prime Remastered, New Professor Layton, Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom

Still thinking about:
Ghost Trick: Phantom Detective
DecaPolice
Fire Emblem Expansion Pass
Baten Kaitos I & II HD Remaster
New Fantasy Life
Bayonetta Origins

So pretty much everything...

Re: Nintendo Files Patent To Combat Online Cheating And Software Modification

@twztid13 Er...Yes? I never understood the whole idea that China never had courts or rights, etc. Literally, everything from paper money to a court system was either invented or existed in Ancient China. Something the West in the Dark Ages didn't have. This is a famous example: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bao_Zheng
The difference is that usually Chinese people believe in dealing with things via solutions instead of arguing and settling in court. If a company were drilling late at night and making a lot of noise, even if they are have a licence to do work during that time, you could write to the company about it and it'll actually get answered by them especially if you are polite and have a solution. Underground YouTubers have made videos stuff like these where they demonstrate in one case, they were given free accommodation at a hotel nearby so his wife can sleep at night. So there wasn't even a need to escalate it to the law.

The fact that every major and minority ethnic group is represented in CPC parliament along with plenty of women should say more then it needs. Also the CPC is larger then the population of Germany if I remember correctly.

Edit: I live in Australia and I don't even know of one aboriginal politician or someone who was black being represented for example.

Re: Nintendo Files Patent To Combat Online Cheating And Software Modification

superavel

@Yorumi Its funny how you constantly change the argument and move the goalpost and am now pretending that because some law in a country agree/disagree with you that it reflects your argument as a whole. That's like saying some country somewhere still discriminate against LGBT people so its right for us to do so.

What I'm saying is common sense/knowledge and applies to all parties. If you were a digital artist and a company displayed your work WITHOUT your explicit permission, that's theft. Even if they are helping you find clients or promoting your work or even if the law does not necessarily protect you as an individual from this. Its theft.

This rule works the other way round too, a licence is given to you that you agree to when you purchase a product. Its not always fair but if you don't agree with it, you can simply not accept the conditions and ask for a refund.

Again, not hard to understand how it works.

Re: Nintendo Files Patent To Combat Online Cheating And Software Modification

superavel

@twztid13 I've actually given an example already:
"Like if we all know how to make a loaf of bread, that's great but saying that because I can make bread and so can you means I'm entitled to your secret recipe is two different things."

The idea here is that not all knowledge is uncommon and common knowledge is respectfully shared/taught, etc instead of being in the hands of a few. Think how Encyclopedias used to work where knowledge came from expert interpretation to now Wikis where community contribute. Both have advantages and disadvantages. The problem with Wikis is that if the majority were ignorant racists (you'll be surprised), it would be normal to write and give advice that was bias. The other way round is that knowledge is gatekept with experts who know it all and could provide misinformation.

"Socialists believe in community property, or government control, so are u saying someone else is owning these IP's in a socialist world?"
You have to remember that socialism and capitalism is not black at white. Otherwise we would still be slaves...socialism is partly about a class struggle.
In capitalism, your contributions are signed away to be a part of a team. So if you're working for a country or a company, those rights belong to said company or country. You're general compensated money for your work although whether it is fair is up for debate. Only a minority reap the benefits/consequences, that's why everyone remembers Bill Gates or how Steve Jobs got fired from the company he started.
In socialism, your rights remain with your contribution small or big. At least in theory. So if this was a game and you contributed 3 lines of code that no one else can contribute, for example, you're rights are protected and you aren't just simply waived away as a corporate entity that they can fire and give packages to, to silence you.

Those 3 lines of code could save you in a socialist society or get you in a lot of trouble. Whilst in capitalism, the company takes the risks hiring you but it also means they can fire you and take credit for your work under the corporate banner.

Huawei employees for examples are the shareholders of their own company. They are not only paid a salary/wages but also compensated based on contribution. It means you're more responsible for what you output and produce but also reap more benefits.

Its interesting how it work, right? I guess that's probably the difference.

Re: Nintendo Files Patent To Combat Online Cheating And Software Modification

superavel

@Yorumi @HisashiASM LOL! How about you provide proof and do some research yourself?

Music and digital arts are literally stolen by millions of people many are not prosecuted either? Your point?

It never happened before so its legit is your argument?

Where in Nintendo's game licences that you purchased to play the game does it say you can modify said parts or whole of the game?

I'll wait.

You're just beating around the bush saying you're doing all these things then need a "copy of Smash" to be provided to play?

Whether Project Melee needs a copy of the game or not is irrelevant. Buying drugs needs real money? SO WHAT?

IT DOES NOT CHANGE THAT SOME DRUGS LIKE COCAINE ARE ILLEGAL. Whilst others like Panadol are legal.

So what's your point? Since both still require using money to get.

EXACTLY AS YOU SAID: Project Melee was closed down due to them providing modified Nintendo code.

Stop twisting my words and READ the whole picture of what I am saying.

I repeat. NINTENDO DID NOT PROVIDE YOU A LICENCE THAT SAYS YOU CAN MOD THEIR GAME IN ANYWAY.

Not hard to understand.

MineCraft is not Smash.
Just as McDonalds is not Burger King.
Burger King provides free drink refills, McDonalds does not?

So if you took a second drink from McDonalds. ITS ILLEGAL.

Not hard to understand.

Re: Nintendo Files Patent To Combat Online Cheating And Software Modification

superavel

@steventonysmith Well I'm a socialist and I think markets should be policed but there is a difference between literal IP theft and sharing (common) knowledge so we all get smarter.

Like if we all know how to make a loaf of bread, that's great but saying that because I can make bread and so can you means I'm entitled to your secret recipe is two different things.

You can learn programming. You can make your own games. If given the right, we can mod other people's games and maybe design our own spinoffs using it...but everything is rent/sold in part or whole as a licence.

I actually believe in blockchains and I hope Nintendo games in the future will allow us to buy and sell our own mini-creations...could be pretty cool in Animal Crossing and I think the concept was even talked about by Reggie recently when promoting his new book.

That's the irony of this. He was the head of Nintendo of America. So what does it say about Nintendo's direction with gaming? I could go deeper and in fact I think the world has been lied to by certain forces but I don't really want to drag politics into this.

All I'll say is this, countries like China get bashed all the time for making cheap crap and stealing IP....ironic when you look at their history and pretty much every major thing was invented/developed or conceptualized there. I'm not saying these things don't happen. I'm also not saying other people can't design/invented/developed/conceptualized things.

Yet the difference is you don't see certain people claiming other groups only ever "stole" ideas from them when sometimes it literally came from them. They don't go around claiming other groups to be some "great threat" to their world of existence and if they did, they defended themselves not invaded their enemies.

I remember everyone making and having comments about my background when I was kid/teen. Whether it was because I'm from HK and "whitewashed/not Chinese" or the best example I could give was how one kid said "Oh you Chinese people invented gunpower by accident but we whites took in a step further and develop guns".

Sigh.

And then the other kids would conceptualize and debate how white people were monsters for doing this.

If only they knew the first firearms came from China.

Simply put, our development of humanity was taken over and over taken by the Western World in the late Ming Dynasty to today.

The point is that we focus on the wrong *****. Sony and Microsoft is not necessarily the villain.

Yet, I actually always look at the history of Nintendo as a great reflection of what happened in Asia. PlayStation and Xbox came in and overtook the industry and kids grew up thinking this was the "normal way" of gaming and Nintendo were the quirky ones who did things weirdly because they are "Japanese"...

If you look hard enough though and think about it, Nintendo is actually the defacto standard who is trying to do the "right thing" for the whole industry. They try to make games that don't need 1 hour installations and updates and run smoothly/immediately without too much loading time without trying to sell you the latest SSD technology. NSO is no GamePass but its not here to devalue full retail games into nothing (like I don't even buy AAA anymore when you can get it for $15 a month) and instead offer a slice of the pie if you have the full game. All of these things are quite fair from an industry perspective and make sense in the environment that we are in.

That's why sometimes they seem slow or unmoving. Other times innovative. And mostly just...weird.

Oh and they get bashed lots.

Re: Nintendo Files Patent To Combat Online Cheating And Software Modification

superavel

@steventonysmith Or they say because Nintendo isn't re-releasing it, that they are entitled to download an illegal copy to play because "you literally can't access it elsewhere" or "you literally can't buy it anywhere". WTF?
I wonder, do they demand KFC for their secret spices and ingredients every time they go to KFC?
Do they ask to visit the factories in China every time they buy a phone or whatever that is made there?
Do they demand to speak with the fashion designer who made their favourite clothes that they purchased from a retail outlet. Better still do they expect that dresses personally designed for celebrities should be made available to the public?
Afterall, "you literally can't buy it anywhere", right?

I mean, what they are saying literally DOES NOT make sense anywhere else.

Re: Nintendo Files Patent To Combat Online Cheating And Software Modification

superavel

@steventonysmith Yes. Like you own one unmodified copy does not entitled you another. I don't think these people understand that buying anything is based off a license. When you buy a loaf of bread, the licence gives you right to consume or modify said bread, it DOES NOT give you right to reverse engineer it or access to the factory to produce more...unless that WAS what was promised in the licence like Charlie the Chocolate factory.

EDIT: The whole point of IP protection is that everything one person makes IS owned by said person and one can sell it in whole or part. Nintendo sold us a licence to PLAY the game on said platform. Just as the bread company sold us a loaf of bead to eat or make into something else.

Re: Nintendo Files Patent To Combat Online Cheating And Software Modification

superavel

@Yorumi @HisashiASM Do you people hear what you're saying?

I'll return your argument with this. Why don't you hire 50 people for 5 years to make a multi-million dollar game and I'll buy one copy on sale for $10 then mod 10 others versions to give to friends. Literally, I code so all I have to do is change a few lines and its "modded". But hey, don't sue me. ITS LEGAL. LOL.

At best your arguments applies to the COPY you purchased...you are entitled to buy ingredients to make your own dish but what right are you entitled to download another illegal copy using third party tools you did not built for modding? Why not actually change the code of the original copy yourself just as you would USE the ingredient you bought for lunch to make food?

Last I check you don't get unlimited loaf of bread for free just because you purchased one copy.

Re: Nintendo Files Patent To Combat Online Cheating And Software Modification

superavel

@Zyph I agree. I modded my 3DS in 2018 and there was like 3 programs that were legit "Homebrew" whilst there were hundreds that allowed you to download "free" ROMs and others that modified games like Pokemon games to make them shiny or whatever stats you wanted or whatever. Where's the Homebrew community these people claim and all the amazing legit mods?
Their defense is always the same. I own the game so I'm going to modify an illegal version because of XYZ companies restrictions.

Re: Talking Point: As Switch Hardware Sales Slow, How Long Can Nintendo Delay 'Switch 2'?

superavel

@SwitchForce As I stated, the Steam Deck exists, costs more and still only does 720p so I don't see in what realistic universe are we going to get a 256GB+ 4k Switch 2 with DLSS and Ray Tracing for USD$350 in 2023?

My point is third party games NOW are like 50-100GB and counting. How are they going fit all that and features like 4k, Ray Tracing, etc for a solid price?

Half-Life is way past DUE DATE here. People are buying into the PR misleading viewpoints about the faked half-life that is way past expiration date now already.

LOL. It's is not a "fake" half life.

Ever thought you just probably just interpreted it different?

They never said halfway was exact the midway point. They just said, mid life cycle began in Year 3 which was when Nintendo first said it.

The way I saw it, 0-3 years is beginning of life cycle, 3-6 years is mid life cycle and 6-9 years is end of lifecycle so how is that...wrong?

Edit: I don't mean to sound offensive or insulting but honestly, people can't seem to read between the lines especially when things are translated from Japanese. I remember when NintendoLife first wrote articles about the half life thing and facepalmed so hard. I feel like most people bash Nintendo without realising what they stand for or how they do things. Could be a cultural disconnect or simply because the media have done a bad job.

Like with the Nintendo Switch Online thing, I was saying how I feel it would be great if Nintendo could do standalone DLC for like their subscription service (this was in 2019 when Luigi's Mansion 3 just launched) and everyone is now surprised they are doing this. Its not exactly what I had in mind, as the DLC is not standalone but the idea was similar.

Re: Talking Point: As Switch Hardware Sales Slow, How Long Can Nintendo Delay 'Switch 2'?

superavel

@SwitchForce Go play your Xbox/PlayStation games then if you keep buying into their philosophy.

Literally, the Switch is not underpowered. Its just not running at 100% at 90 degrees to do "4k". And its not like the base versions of PS4/XOne did 4k either!

Strange how the competition launched a Pro midway through the life of the console to upsell you to the 4k bs. Cause sales would have tanked otherwise.

The point is chasing the sun is a game you will lose. Nintendo can release a 4k Switch with all the bells and whistles and Sony/Microsoft will just roll out a Pro that does 8k. See how that works?

PC hardware is always ahead of the game anyway.

Also if the reason to get a Switch Pro/2 is to get third party that everyone is getting you're sorely mistaken.

Nintendo focuses on gameplay that's why we get games like Monster Hunter Rise.

Also, how are you going to fit 100GB sized games on a portable device? Literally, the base Steam deck has 64GB and is more expensive then the Switch OLED and it goes up from there. 64GB is smaller then some of the biggest AAA games out there now let alone NEXT GEN.

So in what realistic universe are we going to get a 256GB+ 4k Switch 2 with DLSS and Ray Tracing for USD$350 in 2023?

Cause I'll like to go there now.

Re: 'Switch Pro' Trends On Social Media After Massive Nvidia Leak Reignites Speculation

superavel

People are overhyping themselves. The GameCube/GBA had a 3D screen which we only got with the 3DS, 20 years later.

The glorious Steam-Deck doesn't do 2k let alone 4k.

People don't understand the difference philosophy involved with Nintendo and third party hardware/software.

Sony and Microsoft are marketing off-the-self hardware which are ran at PC speeds so that it can do 4k. They also generally depend on a lot of technology they either have, built, buy or get from others to do backwards compatibility...

This is why PS3 emulation by Sony themselves is so difficult.

Nintendo sells hardware that is generally in some way modified (usually to base it off the first version they release) for backwards compatibility reasons. That means the next Switch will most likely be some modified Tegra ("X1") but more powerful and with technologies from the newer Tegra lines.

Nintendo also focuses on hardware that are about efficiency and not about putting the chip to a theoretical max threshold. That's why they seem "underpowered" from a specs perspective but then surprise us with amazing graphical fidelity that seem to somehow make Nintendo like magicians.

If you think of it like RPGs, everyone gets the same stats but some stats are better in some areas then others whilst others work better overall. Like if you put 20 stats in luck, it probably doesn't seem as good as 20 stats in stamina or speed or strength etc in an average DnD game.

Hardware works kinda like in the sense that its not all about the pure specs but how the game employ the specs to make the game fun.

At the end of the day, take these leaks and rumours with a gain of salt.

Re: Reggie Doesn't Seem To Think Nintendo Has "Abandoned" F-Zero, Says There's Still Hope

superavel

@Xiovanni GTA-style F-Zero was what @AstroTheGamosian also suggested. Its actually would make a great spin-off too IMO.

Maybe they can make it like a mix of Midtown Madness and GTA?

As for actual F-Zero. I think it needs to really differentiate itself but not FOREVER for Nintendo to maintain (so no track editor thingy) for it to be revive. Also F-Zero was one of those games that showcase the Nintendo's hardware potential and the Switch is really more middle-of-the-road level.

Re: Reggie Doesn't Seem To Think Nintendo Has "Abandoned" F-Zero, Says There's Still Hope

superavel

@AstroTheGamosian I like the idea but it wouldn't be F-Zero anymore.

Most likely, I think they will integrate F-Zero, DK Racing, Wave Race, etc into Nintendo/Mario Kart X as a "hardcore deathmatch mode" or "alternative challenges" as hey kinda started in 8 and then make each game have only certain F-Zero, DK, Mario, etc and Mii characters come back.

Then they can make these other niche games like how Switch Sports and Mario Sports differentiate from each other by being extremely different.

The whole GTA-F-Zero would be a totally different idea and spin-off and I think it could actually work really well. Great pick.

Re: Reggie Doesn't Seem To Think Nintendo Has "Abandoned" F-Zero, Says There's Still Hope

superavel

@OrtadragoonX Umm...tell that to Capcom who has a lot of fighting series and most of them don't sell for that reason. Strange right?

Literally, Switch Sports and Mario Sports have HUGE differences and most Mario Sports would likely sell 2-3 million on a good run. There's a lot of sports though and the difference between them is huge.

If they are to take the strategy you mentioned, F-Zero, Diddy Kong Racing/Donkey Kong Barrel Blast, WaveRace, etc will be the niche titles that come every few generations and selling a couple of million whilst Mario Kart is the water-downed version everyone can play version that sell gangbusters every generation with crossovers from the other series.

I think perhaps that is their...goal...moving forward.

Re: Reggie Doesn't Seem To Think Nintendo Has "Abandoned" F-Zero, Says There's Still Hope

superavel

Adding a bit more, the literal difference between Mario Kart and F-Zero are very minor. They have:
-different characters
-slightly different playstyle (some crossover of tracks and names now)

And that's about it.

So how are they going to make either series fresh so that the next games sells more the previous?

If they all just copy the Smash formula and add new characters/tracks, it gets a little boring.

Are you going to pay $80 for both?
I highly doubt that.

Capcom has a lot of fighting series and most of them don't sell for that reason.

Literally, a better idea would be to integrate F-Zero into Nintendo/Mario Kart X as a "hardcore deathmatch mode" and then make each game have only certain F-Zero, Mario and Mii characters come back.

Re: Reggie Doesn't Seem To Think Nintendo Has "Abandoned" F-Zero, Says There's Still Hope

superavel

The comment section here is always so annoyingly toxic.

If most of you wanted more of the same, buy a GameCube and Wii U. Oh wait....they kinda flopped. The sales of these games (and the respective hardware) have dwindled generation to generation because they are mostly the same game remade over and over. Zelda sales is a proof of this.

What purpose would F-Zero serve when Mario Kart 8 has sold 45 million units?

I'm a huge F-Zero fan myself but if they charge $70 for a game, I'm not going to buy it. If its a $40 game, it'll probably be barebones and or *****.

So then what is the point exactly? Mario Kart 8 is kinda like the two series combined already. It sucks. Sure. But I don't see where F-Zero fits in the equation to get me to buy it.

These games sold so well because they innovated.

And a new F-Zero during the same time whilst a super successful Mario Kart 8 exist won't sell. Full stop. Metroid does not really have a Nintendo competitor since Zelda is totally different and even then it isn't exactly a 10 million seller yet.

Of note, I actually held off buying Mario Kart 8 Deluxe till the extra tracks were announced because I was holding onto hope (I also never got games like Fast RMX) ...I speak with my wallet....yet even I've caved in.

I would be surprised to see F-Zero return this gen because I don't really see myself owning (or playing) two $70 racing games.

It's just how it is.

Perhaps they are playing with ideas for next generation for a big revival or something.

I dunno but honestly I doubt it as all games HAVE new ideas and Mario Kart 8 stole F-Zero's thunder IMO.

Not many people really plays or buys the same game but with updated graphics twice...unless its literally the same game for a different platform, a sequel (which requires new ideas) or a compilations/remaster/remake (which also including new experience for some players).

Skyrim isn't Oblivion. Dread is not Fusion.

Remakes and remasters are often not the same and are compilations targeted at fans who missed the game or parts of the game the first time round.

NO LEGIT GAME COMPANY TARGETS COLLECTORS. YOU ARE NOT THEIR MARGET.

So I'm tired of the NSO bashing (another story entirely) and the "we buy the same games" bs that floats around every time a Nintendo article is written....cause the answer is, it is BS.

Re: Metroid Prime 4 Dev Retro Studios Is Advertising Job Openings On ArtStation

superavel

I want to know where the whole it takes 5 years to develop a good game comes from?

We were shown a LOGO in 2017 which was scrapped in 2019 and most big companies are working on projects all the time which sometimes aren't even games. Whilst smaller ones can have long breaks with little to no employees.

Also, the length of the development does not determine the quality of the game but rather the scope and understanding of the strengths and limitations of your idea for said hardware...

Just look at recent releases of games like Cyberpunk 2077 which took 500 employees was announced in May 2012 and was released for last gen console in 2020 with a lot of technical issues, 2022 is for this gen consoles. That's a full 10 years. The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt began in 2011 and was released in May 2015 to critical acclaim. That was 4 years.

The opposite is also true.

Nintendo games are somewhat between new engines/ideas with old IPs. They are also rather organically "simplistic" and not have conflated ideas, stories, gameplay elements, battle systems, etc.

If the project is going that badly, Nintendo of this day and age will just scrap it instead of releasing a dud because a dud is worst for them financially and their reputation. Otherwise, it's not hard to scale down. Breath of the Wild is a great game with fresh idea but it also seems to have been scaled down...which get a bad wrap but isn't necessarily a bad thing.

In other words, don't worry about Metroid Prime 4 and besides its the 4th iteration of a series. Most likely, it'll be up to par of the previous titles as they stated.

And no, we don't need everything to be some open world crap. BotW proved that it doesn't even mean anything these days because most companies just slap that label on anything with a big world map.

Re: Reminder: You Don't Need The Mario Kart 8 Deluxe Booster Course Pass To Play The DLC

@Baker1000 We don't know what their online strategy is. My guess is that they want to do a Just Dance like service for games like Mario Kart but different. I would guess that the Booster Course Pass will likely be updated and still be there for Mario Kart 9 or X and serve as a way to play old tracks. It's not like Gamepass where you literally pay for AU$191.4 a year and get nothing out of it once you cancel besides perhaps a few old Xbox Live games. If you can find 7 other people to share the online membership with AU $109.95, it works out to be <$15 a year per person. If you're one person though AU $59.95 is a bit...steep.

Re: Nintendo To Invest Huge Sums In Game Development And Online Infrastructure

Here after the Mario Kart 8 DLC announcement. Their strategy is slowly "unfolding" before our eyes.

Edit: I think Mario Party DLC is next following Mario Kart 8 DLC and their goal is to move closer to the Just Dance style of content relaying for each iteration of the game. For Party, they can have an Expansion Pass that adds boards to BOTH their current games as well as future games to come which future adds to the value of the subscription as well as making Mario Party games easier, more frequent and sell better.
