Re: Fire Emblem: Three Houses Expansion Pass Detailed, Now Available To Pre-Purchase

superavel

@Grumblevolcano I know there are early access to games like alphas and beta some of which cost money but that's still selling me something incomplete and ready to change any minute.

Also its the idea that I'm paying extra money for no reason or bonus.
I don't want a half-baked cake, I just want a slice of the full thing.

What I mean is more along the lines of standalone expansion pass/DLC alongside demos of the full product. So I can literally buy a piece of the cake, eat it and decide whether I want to bring the full cake home or not.

Edit: I think what they can do in this instance is release a demo that works with the paid DLC/expansion pass. So I can just download the demo and buy the expansion pass and if I like it pay for the full game. Win-win.

Re: Guide: Switch Pro And Switch Mini: Everything We Know So Far

superavel

@Vectorman I meant that in the terms of third-party that is actually trying to make a difference on the Switch. Not just porting old games or making low budget AA titles like Mario + Rabbids Kingdom Battle.

Also you can kind of tell the game stands out from the pack. The gameplay looks amazing even compared to contemporaries. How many single player games that can also be played co-op?

I've played almost all the Sony exclusives and they more or less have the same "feel" to them. That's like a band that always writes music in the same tone, chords and notes. Some people find it amazing. I find it boring. Also what amazing gameplay element have I not seen or is unique to their games because I can't think of anything?

I'm not comparing a PC to console in terms of power but in terms of gaming convenience. Your PC can play games as well as do other stuff. Console arguably work better for their task, sure, and there are "consoles exclusives" but besides Nintendo games, most of them are more of the same and there are also games best played with a keyboard and mouse like Starcraft or DotA 2 or MMOs. A controller doesn't cut it in that instance and thus why console ports are somewhat useless. Yes, you can add keyboard and mouse to consoles too but it also becomes somewhat pointless in that sense as they step closer and closer to being just like a PC.

The console space survived by being unique and marketable.

Marketing and money has a lot to with it. If it didn't sell millions and millions more, I doubt anyone one would continue making them even if they were "superior" to PCs. Just compare Macs and PowerPCs to an Intel-Windows PC, why did the former almost die out while the latter thrived?
It wasn't due to superiority.
Why does McDonalds outsell most other restaurants including other fast food chains which are arguably better?
It wasn't due to superiority.

At least not necessarily a superior product.

A superior product generally doesn't sell better because often it has more factors and quality controls to consider.

Also from a marketing standpoint, it is better to sell the inferior products first until you run out of ideas then move on to the superior products.

Otherwise, we'll all have TVs with gaming consoles built in and the Nintendo Switch would be the norm, not the exception.

It's all just marketing. Why think outside the box when what's inside the box already pays the bills?

Re: Fire Emblem: Three Houses Expansion Pass Detailed, Now Available To Pre-Purchase

superavel

@JR150 While I agreed with your comment, I'm not sure why no one has attempted the whole pre-game DLC thing.
It makes sense.
You try a piece of cake before buying the whole thing.
So while I understand people don't want to be sold a work-in-progress but when the game is about to be finished, why not release wasted ideas or expansion passes as DLC BEFORE the game is even launched?
Think paid demo sort of thing but additional content instead.
It'll build hype for the game and also allow me to try before I buy. If you must make it same day as launch but stand alone?

Re: Nintendo Reveals The Switch eShop's Best-Selling Games For June 2019 (Europe)

superavel

@dougphisig Ha! Ha! I actually can agree with you there but am happy that it made it on the Top 20 list. The Mana series was legendary in the hayday but they dropped the ball when PlayStation came around and hasn't reached the heights of the third game ever since.
That said, I was always more of a Star Ocean fan myself but the fifth mainline game has also dropped the ball after a sloppy third and fourth. It really sucks because Enix was always my preference when compared to Square.

Now I am personally more an Atlus fan in terms of jRPGs then either.

Re: Guide: Switch Pro And Switch Mini: Everything We Know So Far

superavel

@XxPetriedudexX Well sure but that experience changes every generation based upon where the bar is set.

"Pro" iterations of game consoles are there to improve on what has already been set as standard. If the standard isn't getting third party games, the Pro version won't get any more then it does.

Yet I'm hearing people who are wanting X2 based Switch's when it isn't even used for computer gaming. They want Nintendo to basically make a leap but still keep compatibility with the OG Switch.

These people want Nintendo to get all the third party games and more basically. I understand that it can be a pain for people to own two consoles or more (or only one for that matter) but it is a choice that they make.

You mention that the Wii U had no killer app but the PS3/4 and X360/XBone didn't have for a long time and some argue still don't and they still...sold.

The fact that most Nintendo "fans" call themselves fans but will not think twice to buy a competitor's consoles say more about them then anything else. They have no understanding of Nintendo's philosophies and ascribe to buy whatever whenever.

Yes, the Wii U had no Blu-Ray/HD DVD player but people should have known this since the GameCube.

Its the same with why Netflix still hasn't arrived on the Switch.

Nintendo is a gaming company and they want people to be playing games on their console. Is that so much to ask?

Yes, many of us don't just play games but Nintendo believes that they can provide enough content for people to live without Netflix.

They focus on games and just games and they want your time...period.

Netflix is also a competitor and that's where Nintendo has always differed from the competition.

The fact that the Wii U didn't sell tells me that people just don't get it and are mostly "casual" gamers. Nothing wrong with that of course but it means Nintendo has to pander to that crowd to "sell".

(I agree that "the Wii U marketing was horrible." though but I think Nintendo's aim was trying to sell a console that was for everyone - "Wii" and "U" - and it backfired.)

The Switch is doing exactly this and that's why you may have seen some Nintendo Switch detractors complaining about Nintendo having lose their way several years back or something like that.

Personally, I would like to see a successful Nintendo console akin to the N64 and GameCube days but with SNES to Wii like sales and PlayStation doing portables like they did in 2005.

That way, we get the best of both worlds and it meant lots of great games and more great games.

Right now the market is feeling a little stale. Nintendo being Nintendo and Sony being Sony.

Re: Guide: Switch Pro And Switch Mini: Everything We Know So Far

superavel

@XxPetriedudexX It does get modern games. My wallet can't keep up with the games coming out. Just not necessarily the latest western third party that take over 50GB to produce. Nintendo will almost always certainly never get those games at launch.

People say this every damn generation and the same results are to be had...when will they adapt and learn? Or move on?

Nintendo is about niche gaming and niche gamers. Their games might be popular but they are competing with other popular brands for your time.

Their consoles with the third party aka the Wii U NEVER SOLD. So it is total bs. Most people who want the Switch Pro are greedy for more power and has competitive issues. They want Nintendo to "crush the competition" or lose money selling expensive hardware that isn't bringing anything new.

Besides, as I said, it doesn't need more power.

It needs bigger cartridges and games that are actually of sizes rivalling the competition and also for the competition to take them seriously.

But why would they? They are competitors.

Even if Nintendo rolled out 64GB carts at launch at a cheap price with the most powerful system on Earth it STILL won't get most of the third party games that are running on competitors system because they want to avoid a monopoly which is bad for business.

Consoles exist the same reason that PC are not monopolies.

Edit: Think about it, if Beyond Good and Evil 2, Cyberpunk 2077, Final Fantasy VII Remake came to the Nintendo Switch, what's the point of a PlayStation or Xbox? For the exclusives?

For one, they wouldn't sell half as many consoles as they do today.

Xbox exclusives are mostly just shooters and doesn't really bring anything new.
PlayStation exclusives are boring/bland and rightly so. They didn't start out making games so kept them to a minimum in order to not peeve off the competition.

What Nintendo needs is more third parties like Platinum Games who would risk making game changing IP like Astral Chain for the Nintendo Switch.

Re: Sony Doesn't See Nintendo As A Major Rival, More Worried About Microsoft Next Generation

superavel

@Trajan I mean the concept of it being able to use games to make games. In the future we might see programs be able to make other programs in the same regard.
I dunno. Think like a simpler and easier to use AI-based Visual Studio able to create the most complex of programs within programs with no or minimal intervention.
Maybe because I am Asian and work in IT but I feel this could significantly change the industry and how programs are made.

Re: Sony Doesn't See Nintendo As A Major Rival, More Worried About Microsoft Next Generation

superavel

@RadioHedgeFund Well I'm not talking about rivalry between gaming portals but rather that rivals are on the same side in terms of moving money into their pockets and the industry forward.

Whoever controls the most powerful tools influences the world and its culture and so the world is like one big game of guided chess.

In terms of computing technology, it's not like the Japanese haven't tried competing with Microsoft and Co on home turf. Sony and Toshiba used to be leaders in the PC industry and we all know what happen to the both of them. Toshiba got owned like Huawei did and Sony laptops more or less closed shop.

As much as I like to think life is all a game of chance. I think it is more like a guide chess.

So you can kinda say I believe the Illuminati exist sort of deal.

That there are people out there trying to guide the rest of the world in a specific direction.

And of course, there are more than one of these groups. Or maybe they are all also working together too.

In this case, I think its more a case of starting from gaming and going from there.

Basically, from a computing perspective, we have three sphere's of influences: PC/Mac, gaming and mobile.

Besides American tech giants being involved in all of them,
each industry is currently dominated by a group of Asian "rivals" as you might call it.

And I think they are competing with each other but also working together to influence the industry as a whole.

My point is that gaming isn't just gaming.

In the future, it will have a significant influence in the industry as a whole and can revolutionise the way we say....program stuff.

Right now programming stuff requires a PC/Mac with a keyboard and a lot of text compiling.

In the future maybe every idiot with a stylus and a game like Uber Super Mario Maker can make something for others to use.

That's what I'm getting at.

Re: Sony Doesn't See Nintendo As A Major Rival, More Worried About Microsoft Next Generation

superavel

@RadioHedgeFund @Trajan I disagree. I think its all part of the plan to be honest and (the console wars) are just getting started.

A trio is always more interesting than a duo because of alliance and backstabbing.

Nintendo didn't give up so much as to allow Sony to continue the Japanese dominance of the gaming console marketing.

Right now technology is all in the hands of American powerhouses and this is a wrestling match by the Japanese tech industry to change that.

Gaming is a large portion of modern technology. Its both an art form and complex logic like programming are.

Since Japanese also makes TVs, its only a matter of time before someone comes along with a gaming TV and if Sony continues to dominate the console market, the Japanese will eventually dominate the gaming market completely.

And gaming as I said is both an art form and ingrained into our culture.

It can reverse the trend of an American tech dominance over time as more and more people flock over to develop for these Japanese giants instead.

Adding to this Chinese phones taking away from iOS and you can see why people dub the 21st century as the Asian century.

And with that, the whole PC/Mac model might even fall away to bits.

Edit: Why else did Microsoft invade the gaming space of all things?

Edit 2: I don't know if any of us will see this in our lifetimes but I think Nintendo (and Sony) could become a force to reckon with in the future as games evolve further and become more complex. Little Big Planet and Mario Maker is a step in the right direction on how we can use games to make game/programs. If they think bigger, we could get some amazing stuff happening in the future and the PC/Mac development model would become obsolete with time. I mean who wants to sit there for hours compiling lines of code? I don't.

Re: Sony Doesn't See Nintendo As A Major Rival, More Worried About Microsoft Next Generation

superavel

@RazorWind Thus why they say their competitor and threat is Microsoft, not Nintendo. People either buy Nintendo or Nintendon't.

There is a huge overlap of users between Xbox and PlayStation that is a cause for concern for PlayStation. If Xbox is successful and PlayStation somehow manages to flop, the whole Sony corporation could go under.

Pretty much everyone will tell you, you need a Nintendo and an Xbox/PlayStation (usually PlayStation) and a PC for all your gaming needs.

Microsoft isn't backing off anytime soon so they have to deal with it.

PlayStation went down this road because they choose it first. The path of the mainstream can be a difficult but rewarding path. Nintendo kind of gave up that path long ago though arguably never tried.

I think if they lose this fight, Sony could be potentially out of business or reduce to making gaming console TVs or something.

That'll be interesting.

It means we'll be buying Sony TVs, Xboxs/mini PCs and Nintendo Switch.

A win-win for everyone.

Re: Sony Doesn't See Nintendo As A Major Rival, More Worried About Microsoft Next Generation

superavel

@Heavyarms55 Its just an incorrect perception and presumptions being thrown around.

I mean its a case of most mainstream gamers buy PlayStations more than Nintendo's core audience which consists of old school gamers and children....as Nintendo is for everyone.

The fact that the article states "Sony is after the "hardcore" gamer" is a testament to this. As I said in a previous post, what game does Sony product that has a hardcore following of players of a range of skills?

Re: Sony Doesn't See Nintendo As A Major Rival, More Worried About Microsoft Next Generation

superavel

Sony after the "hardcore"? Really?

Like what games do they produce that has "hardcore" fans or "hardcore" players? Clearly not Smash, Animal Crossing, Pikmin, Battalion Wars, F-Zero, Metroid, etc...just saying.

And hardcore third party?
Do you mean all those best selling indie games on the Switch or those underground hardcore games like Disgaea that no one seems to be buying? Or something more popular like the Witcher 3 which get ported to the Switch but later?

Seriously, the argument is getting old.

When has Nintendo EVER sold something that wasn't a niche non-mainstream product?

And when has Sony's core demographic not been the mainstream audience?

Sony isn't after the hardcore, never was and never will be. sarcasm Because AI-driven motion capture tech demos are "hardcore" games.../sarcasm

Re: Nintendo Thinking About Extending Switch Online Retro Library Beyond NES Software

superavel

@JereJK
"which will attract many more consumers" / "what’s easier to do"
When has Nintendo really done things for mass marketing money sake?
Seriously, the Switch could have launched with Miiverse, Virtual Console and more casual games to attract that market first (my sister, for example, had a fleeting interest in the Switch but commented she didn't like most of the games coming to it) but they went with Zelda and Mario and Skyrim.

Nintendo is a bit of a perfectionist and that company that sells you the products that most people would deem a failure and non-mainstream.

A console is normal but none of theirs has been. Not to mention they don't even make that anymore.

I'm not saying it's necessarily bad business practices but more so what makes Nintendo feels makes the least impact to their games moving forward...which is what they like to do.

They don't want to plague customers with nostalgic content and rarely has remakes and remasters as it is (besides like Zelda).

Seriously, people want a Super Mario Galaxy and Sunshine HD compilation and while I'm not against that my point is when has Nintendo EVER done that with Mario games?

Re: Guide: Switch Pro And Switch Mini: Everything We Know So Far

superavel

@LuciferOnReddit Tegra X2 would break compatibility with the Switch so I'll lay my bets on an X1.
Also, the power of the Switch isn't so much the issue but cartridges. People need to realise this by now.
Most Switch games are 16GB in size.
Most modern games are 50GB+.

Assume they can fit the game on a 16GB or 32GB card, you'll get like less then 1/3 of the performance basically.

Edit: And as Nintendo said, they are not competing with Microsoft and Sony because they don't see the point. Microsoft and Sony are like their siblings/brothers. Arch rivals but also best-friend. They help the industry grow and each other to make money. You NEED an Xbox/PlayStation and a Switch thus you BUY two consoles. It's marketing.

Re: Guide: Switch Pro And Switch Mini: Everything We Know So Far

superavel

@dmc79 The Switch already HAS the power to run most modern games decently. Just that the cartridges can't keep up. They are too expensive. Most modern games are over 32GB in size with some games hitting 50-100GB. Most Switch games are 16GB in size. That's what's limiting it from getting some of the third party games.

Re: Nintendo Thinking About Extending Switch Online Retro Library Beyond NES Software

superavel

@rdm22 @Braok @Sabrewing @matthewwtaylor @Whalehome @JohnnyC @JereJK Hopefully didn't miss anybody.

I could be wrong but I doubt its going to be GameCube games. The Switch can easily remaster/remake GameCube games to HD (and some of them already have been remade like the Resident Evil), N64 games are also primed for Remakes and a direct port would look really ugly leaving the legacy consoles for the Switch Online.

Most likely we'll be getting GameBoy and SNES games as additions to the service.
Nothing to write home about but great for people who missed their older games.

Re: Atlus Exceeded Its Sales Target For The Previous Fiscal Year, Despite Net Loss Of 904 Million Yen

superavel

@NotTelevision It sucks but I think in general Nintendo is treated as the secondary system by most including developers. Seriously, most games could come to the Switch...but most won't. Cartridges being expensive is part of the problem. Still, we're not even getting all that many X360 and PS3 ports. Basically, anything under 16GB should not be a problem to port.

But how many people want to play old games?

Edit: Nintendo doesn't do the multi-disc/multi-cartridge thing...which is a shame really. Some games today are nearly 100GB in size. If somehow 64GB cartridges can come out cheap enough, we might get more modern games. Till then it isn't happening.

Re: Nintendo, Sony And Microsoft Band Together To Fight Tariffs On Video Game Consoles

superavel

@AcesHigh Also China is more conservative then you or I. They're like socially stuck in the 1950s or something but with 21st-century technology and manufacturing. Ironically, the West in the 1950s had a lot of discrimination for blacks, gay, transgender, etc...oh wait. (they. still. do.)

I meant that China is far more social then America is and even has bad 50s habits like smoking...lots of smoking.

It's funny how all conservatives around the world more or less hate one another. You see this with America, the Middle East and even Europe...

And apparently, progressives are to be blamed for this?

Re: Nintendo, Sony And Microsoft Band Together To Fight Tariffs On Video Game Consoles

superavel

@AcesHigh Um no...I'm talking about international patents in recent years.
What has counterfeit goods got to do with anything I said?
Huawei doesn't make counterfeit goods, they made premium American products that are produced in China like pretty much everyone else.
There are individuals that do counterfeit goods but that's like saying my brother-in-law is bully so I get punished.
If you actually go to the flea markets in most countries you will find plenty of counterfeit goods that are sold there. Some Made in China, some not.

Also, most "counterfeit goods" are legal.

Counterfeit goods are generally made from legit good parts by big companies doing shady dealing on the side. They don't want to be responsible for mass producing a certain quantity of goods (in order to get the cheap price) so end up selling the rest back to the manufacturer for a cheaper price and the manufacturer does something out of it by making it slightly different from the original goods.

"If you sell more than you buy from us, we will impose higher taxes on the things you sell us to make you play fair"
And how is that fair?
In terms of importing, America doesn't really PRODUCE anything of value for the world to buy.

The playing field has not been fair since the Opium Wars. Back then England tried to sell Opium to the Chinese knowing full well it was a drug they banned themselves because of it addictive value.

The Qing government wrote to the queen at the time wanting it banned from sale in the country as well but instead got their government toppled by several wars.

That close to literally all you had to "trade" with at the time.

China wanted nothing from you. You wanted everything from China.

The playing field has not been fair since.

China gave up and lost its innovative space to America.

Isn't it you conservatives who vote for lower taxes for the rich?
Why?
Because the rich PRODUCE more then and should get more benefit.

Seriously, read what is being traded and tell me how it is fair what you're saying.

https://ustr.gov/countries-regions/china-mongolia-taiwan/peoples-republic-china#

China buys tools and parts from America then sells you the final product. Of course, the final product is going to be less but cost more, how else is people going to make a profit?

China say imports $100 worth of parts and exports $150-200 worth of goods. That's business.

Also what is being imported ranges from things like machinery to services. America's manufacturing industry would basically die without Chinese imports. China, on the other hand, does not need a few extra jet planes and some beans.

Don't try to pull politics into this when you know full well you are full of shit.

Edit: If it had been the other way round, you'll be putting taxes on exports saying China is buying American quality goods and technology and should have to pay for it. #TRUMPLOGIC

Re: Nintendo, Sony And Microsoft Band Together To Fight Tariffs On Video Game Consoles

superavel

@TheLightSpirit China has better wages than some western countries. Labour isn't cheap there just people aren't overpaid for "expertise" that's the difference. In the West, you would get experts who get paid 150k+ a year for doing something that is considered an expertise. That's where the difference lies and where the huge cost saving comes from.

Edit: Also it is really bad that some people like @GetShulked are bashing the country about things like its "concentration camps" when they have no understanding of what goes on there. The Islamic leaders has spoken positivity of these camps because unlike the Nazi "concentration camps" that people associate with, they are more camps where people are given food and education so they can integrate into society and live a prosperous life but of course, haters going hate. China even allows the western media to go live in those camps to see what it is really like there.

Re: PlatinumGames' Astral Chain To Be The First Of A Trilogy, Depending On Its Success

superavel

@Heavyarms55 Ha! Ha! Same. I wouldn't mind other stuff by BioWare as well. Not sure if they own Jade Empire or Microsoft for example.

The Super Nintendo Switch as I like to call it will be backward-compatible but still a pain in the neck no less.

It means I have to upgrade and play the game in a small section of the screen as I doubt it will still be 720p.

Unless Nintendo has somehow changed the business practices of the industry since then of course...

And I mean that they will get third parties to give patches for old games and whatnot on the Switch.

Re: Preview: Astral Chain Is The 2019 Switch Game Everyone Should Be Talking About

superavel

@Heavyarms55
Well the Shield needed it but the Switch doesn't.
Nintendo is a company that just does enough to get that "ace".
That's why some people call them lazy and others find them frustrating.

They probably spend the rest of the time developing new ideas so they have a strong arsenal of assets when bad weather comes their way.

Two steps forward one step back is their formula.

I believe they will one day risk their billions to put themselves in a position that isn't just niche gaming platform...(or maybe they don't need to and have already found the secret to success. )

The fact that they didn't launch with Virtual Console and Key Titles with the Switch proves this and...I don't even mean first party but they could have found the right third party games and partners.

My sister was momentarily more interested in a Switch then I was but commented that they were making games that targetted the same audience and after that never bought it up again after telling me about the product and showing me the price.

She has a DSi and got left hanging and hasn't upgraded to any gaming platform.

That is Nintendo's biggest problem but also their greatest strength in finding success. They never risk it all and just does enough to succeed.

That's why I also believe the Switch will probably go the way of the Dodo after two or three Nintendo generations and they will move on to something greater.

Edit: That is also why they never or rarely ever port games over to a new platform. It makes you thirsty for more and they can then give you something new but familiar.

Re: PlatinumGames' Astral Chain To Be The First Of A Trilogy, Depending On Its Success

superavel

@Heavyarms55 Yeah. I have the 3DS version as well and still haven't gotten around to playing it. lol.

But yeah. I mean it would suck if half of the series is on the Switch 2, whatever it shall be called, and half not. I don't mind if they re-released the whole collection on the new Switch but its a pain when it isn't like that.

What I would like to see though is a game like Mass Effect where one games outcome effect the next. Now that is a quality trilogy.
