Re: The Switch Has Now Sold More Units Than The 3DS

superavel

@megakasp Quarter hasn't technically finished yet if I'm not mistaken.
@jamesthemagi VC will not return. The games on Nintendo Switch online are designed to be small in size to run on the Switch and also has added features like rewind and anytime save. With only 32GB of storage, N64 games are likely not possible seeing as they will take even more capacity being upscaled and with added features.

Re: Random: Fake Nintendo Direct Leak "Reveals" The Name Of Breath Of The Wild 2

Speaking about "Switch Pro" rumours, I think it may be smarter for Nintendo to release a Home Console/Pro Dock with USB 4.0 and Thunderbolt 3/4 that enables the original Switch to fast charge and provide 4k graphics packs on a 1 or 2TB SSD.

I don't think they will alienate their customers that way and it can lead into everything they have been working towards.

A Pro is unnecessary at this point.

But two more years and we can see one happening with similar specs as this Home Console/dock.
The two can then work in tandem to each other and become a "next-gen" Switch.

Then repeat the process every 4 years with 2-year incremental upgrades in between like the OG Switch being updated with the better battery version.

Re: Rumour: Datamine Apparently Reveals All About The New Nintendo Switch Revision

superavel

@Yanina
So you're saying Nintendo is holding off on games until they release a Switch Pro...which by the games makes no sense.

How is selling a Pro system with more games going to help?

It's not a replacement system so there's no need for it to have (m)any exclusive games.

Otherwise, it might as well be a sequel.

And there are plenty of games coming out this year and beyond, more so than previous years.

I actually think they might sell the dock first as a re-entry to the Home Console market then 2 years down the line release the Switch Pro with similar specs....The two then work together to form one next-gen Switch console and the process repeats.

A simultaneous release could work as well but it means the dock will likely not have much technology in it as they can't sell the two separately as easily.

Re: Nintendo Switch Sales Surpass 61 Million, Equalling The Mighty NES

superavel

@Scott_PdP I think Nintendo are being conservative with their sales because they are already successful. Instead of over producing units then selling at cheaper prices later, Nintendo is basically sold out all the time. They estimate how much customer base they have and sell it.
I'm making a video talking about this and my updated predications of how many they will sell. Initially I guessed they would move 120 million but now they are on track to beat the PS2.

Re: Nintendo Switch Sales Surpass 61 Million, Equalling The Mighty NES

superavel

@tillyboo Not really. They don't need a more powerful model yet.
The Switch is selling well and will continue to do so. If you look at when the DS exploded, it was during its 3rd and 4th year.

You want to release a Pro when the console is about to decline. Just as the DSi kept the momentum for the DS going. You don't want the Pro model to replace the initial model otherwise you might as well have a sequel.

The Switch is on track to equal the DS consoles if it keeps its sales rate going. Its moving at around 2 million a month during this pandemic. 2 million for 12 months is 24 million. If we assume that it sells an extra ~5 million during the holiday season then we can predict that it will sell an additional 30 million by this time next year. And if it keeps that up for 2 years, that'll be another 50-60 million units under they belt.

Nintendo themselves are making an additional 25 million consoles and since the console is constantly sold out, we can expect an increase in sales of at least 50 million in the coming 2 years.

That'll mean they would have sold 110 million units by July 2022.

Assuming it declines after that, a Pro model should therefor comes out in 2022 to keep sales going. Lets just say they sell 15 million per year for 2 more years before the sales completely fall off grid.

That'll be 140 million by 2024 when a sequel should come out. Sales will then fall rapidly as people buy the new console and it'll likely move around 10-15 units in another 1 or 2 years. Giving it numbers close to the DS and PS2.

Edit: If the Pro comes out in 2021, it might eat into the sales of the Switch and will likely be the best selling year for the console. I would predict 30-35 million units sold at that rate in 2021-2022. But if that's the case, I would say the lifetime sales will likely end up probably lower then the DSes.

So in other words, Nintendo should try an play the long game here.
The longer they can sell the Switch for without a Pro, the better, the sales will be for them.
If we look back, the DSi ate into the DS's sales number also. They could have delayed the launch of the DSi by 9-12 months and would have probably squeezed a bit more sales performance out of the Lite.

I will say it again, not to poop on the PlayStation or Sony but am I the only person who felt the PlayStation 2 onwards were somewhat overrated?
I know people like one of my uncles who bought one as a DVD Player and can still occasionally play games. They don't really game no more. I bought a PS3 for Blu-Ray but have since given up on collecting for the platform.

Also I feel that the Nintendo Switch is on-track to do Wii/DS/PS2 numbers. My initial estimates were 120 million but now I think at the rate they're going they're going to beat that and be closer to the 150 mark.

Man, I can clearly tell that most people have never been to China or know many Chinese people. Quora is a great place to start like @RGnsd suggested but I bet most people haven't even Google a picture of modern Shanghai online.

Can't afford the goods?
Anti-Western totalitarian government? Yeah, that's why they adopted a WESTERN FORM OF GOVERNMENT.
Monitoring of citizens (and the world)? By whom exactly since apparently we're all victims of this all powerful invisible government here.
Organ harvesting with 0 proof?

There's freedom of speech then there's speaking without thinking.

Is that why China is the only place on Earth where over 56 ethnic groups (speaking over 60 languages) of Jews, Muslims and Christians, Buddhist and atheist can live in relative peace and massive numbers and actually prosper?

Is that why everything is Made in India, Mexico and Brazil because of cheap labour and numbers because we all know businesses love that. (Try to understand an ounces of engineering before saying this.)

Oh and clearly every Chinese guy is in on it, right?
Even HKers like me...
How else can a growing "corrupted" government (two important contradictory words) of 80 million+ CCP members, monitors, suppress and undermine 1.4 billion people let alone the entire world?

You know even with 15 arms, ten eyes and time travel technology they stole from aliens, these 80 million CCP members are still clearly being overworked! How dare they!

And don't forget organ harvesting from testimonials of "dying" people. Because the first thing I would do if I have my organ harvested would be to fly 12 hours to a foreign country, contact the newspapers there then provide an elaborate story with no prove about how my organs have been harvested by the CCP and sold. You know, clearly, its like X-Ray scans and common sense have never been invented or something?

Oh and before this Wu Mao spits more China-zi propaganda, because he is clearly brainwashed and stupid, lets remind him of how his government ran over his own people with "tanks" because we saw an image on the net of Tank Man, an inspiration to "democracy" and freedom to tell bs based on memes and imagery, not facts. (No wonder the Chinese government censor images...like they censor racism & hate speech online towards black people or other similar crimes but hey, Great Firewall = no.)

Seriously, the among of ignorance coming from this thread really tells me why the western world is destine for greatness. Who needs to know about the rest of the world when being first at everything automatically makes us superior?

You know, we invented computers and nuclear bombs first so we must be all smart and cultured and China trying to have their own footing is clearly a sign they are a threat...even though we're still superior though. You know, inferior threats aren't an oxymoron and we aren't bullying at all.

Technology should be kept in the hands of the elite and those who can afford it (with pieces of printed paper called money, something that actually holds little real value and was invented in Ancient China) like us for the betterment of mankind even though all these competitive innovations being made by Chin Cong Company is just stolen technology.

We continue to insult the great American corporations that push our industry and tech prowess forward for doing something smart like moving factories to China where there is hardworking well-trained staff that don't ask for billions to do layman's work...

…because freedom of speech.

Or maybe because Chinese staff is easy to bribe with 50c? That must be it.

And again, we invented it first so we must know everything there is know about the subject. Being the frontier and pioneers automatically makes us leaders in every aspect. Everyone else are just jealous thieves.

That's why western medicine and science can't explain Traditional Chinese Medicine like acupuncture that's been around and verified for thousand of years because...

Unscientific voodoo....

Despite this, we still pull out teeth when you have toothache or bombard diseases (like cancer) with antibiotics and chemotherapy.

Not very barbaric at all.

Oh and believe there is a God which we'll spend countless rational hours debunking atheists about because there is nothing more rational then telling someone who doesn't care to worship a long dead "human" entity.

And this go back full circle to democracy

Which is about a "vote" by your average unknowing citizen between one "idiotic" representative to the next instead of an actual constantly changing system that has exams, demonstrated acts of excellence, actual practical work and still have voting for those that actually involved in the process... not just everyday folk who don't care.

I wonder why businesses and Churches don't use it more?

Oh wait. THEY DO.

If only Nintendo would allow every citizen on earth to vote for whether they should make the Switch or not. Clearly some gamers are wrong and PlayStation and Xbox are right...we just want a powerful box connected to our TV, sales PROOF this. Or a Nintendo phone. Lots and lots of Nintendo phones...

Re: Dr. Kawashima’s Brain Training Is Making A Glorious Comeback On Switch

superavel

@westman98 People blame mobile for eroding everything but I think it's actually because the 3DS was destined to sell less then the DS due to a shift particularly amongs Nintendo casuals. Their first generation consoles tends to sell more due to hype thus attracting more Nintendo casual gamers in the process. While their second generation of said systems has always aimed at having more higher calibre games and more unique features that target a niche "core" audience thus these casuals left or there are less of them. Just look at the Switch, there are to this day still people that only have BotW as the only game they have on their system. And the Switch while doing well will most likely and so far has sold less then the sales of the Wii and DS.
I don't think people buy more mobile phones or games and there are suddenly more casuals on these devices, otherwise the PS4 won't hit 100 million in sales, they just buy less Nintendo consoles because the hype has died and they are realistic with their money.
People basically see phones > other brand consoles > Nintendo devices. That's how it is.
Its more to do with the philosophy behind the companies and what they stand for that causes their sales to rise or decline.

Nintendo wants to sell us premium toys and games where art imitates life but that's not what many people believes games and consoles are. They are essentially targeting a niche.

Sony is an entertainment congmerate that believes in the latest motion capture technology in terms of entertaining the masses and Microsoft see games as like a PC software knockoff: that they are cheap thrills.

So people will buy said devices they sell accordingly.

Re: Luigi's Mansion 3 Receiving Paid DLC, Will Add New Content To Multiplayer Modes

superavel

@DockEllisD It's called "downloable content" for a reason.

Just as you said yourself the $80 dollar meal comes with SIDE dishes not like fish and dessert is mixed in one dish the way fish and chips is.

Besides it's not like the industry didn't try to offer up on disc DLC (fish and chips) at one point. People complained about that last gen, so my point stands.

Games should be more like restaurants. DLC should be like sides which I can order and eat by itself.
Which is what I am saying.
They should be standalone.

Re: Luigi's Mansion 3 Receiving Paid DLC, Will Add New Content To Multiplayer Modes

superavel

@DockEllisD Do you know how entitled you sound? What makes a game complete? If a game say never even had multiplayer before for example, then how is it an incomplete experience to offer it later down the line?

Because they can easily sell it as a seperate game if they choose to which is what I am getting at.

Have Luigi's Mansion 3 then have Luigi's Mansion 3 "DLC" as its own standalone game like the way Torna for Xenoblade Chronicles 2 works.

Nintendo sells DLC as a cheaper game and everyone wins. That's what I am proposing.

Then I bet you lot will be complaining how they are spinoffs and not enough mainline games.

Re: Upcoming Fire Emblem: Three Houses DLC Reportedly Detailed Ahead Of Release

superavel

I said it on another thread but I think Nintendo would be much wiser if they had considered releasing standalone DLC for games like these instead.

Say a Fire Emblem: Three Houses multiplayer mode featuring said characters and requires the Nintendo Switch Online service to download for free (or a smaller then DLC price fee).

Leave the single player and meaty stuff on cartridges which then can be left at home. While the downloaded multiplayer element would effectively be a walking advertisement for the game.

Re: Luigi's Mansion 3 Receiving Paid DLC, Will Add New Content To Multiplayer Modes

superavel

@DockEllisD It is a full experience so what's the problem? This is additional content for people that want more. You don't have to buy it.

Honestly, this is why Nintendo is so behind the times because they don't have the balls to peeve off their "family friendly" fanbase. Cave men thinks like Cave man and must be served as such.

Personally, I'm of the camp that standalone DLC expansion packs that work without having to buy/own the game is the best type of DLC.

If I was CEO of Nintendo I would release multiplayer content of the game as free and paid standalone DLC (via download) where users can buy to try. The story is then a full game experience on cartridge.

That way, I get the best of both worlds and bring that experience with me on the go basically as a walking advertisement whilst leaving the cartridge at home. That's how I envisioned the Switch to work.

That would however, peeve off a lot of people who want "The full game" including multiplayer on a cartridge.

So Nintendo is doing the wise thing of not peeving off this fanbase and released games with additional DLC that don't add much to the game's story.

Re: Luigi's Mansion 3 Receiving Paid DLC, Will Add New Content To Multiplayer Modes

@boxyguy There's already more multiplayer content announced then there was in Dark Moon.

Re: Luigi's Mansion 3 Receiving Paid DLC, Will Add New Content To Multiplayer Modes

superavel

Guys, Nintendo is joining the 21st century as much as you might hate it and it takes money to maintain games for more then a year.

Paid DLC basically means they will continue to support and patch the game and sometimes also provide some sort of free DLC in the process.

It also means we are less likely to get a million sequels on the one system as we had in the past for some games.

I think moving forward, Nintendo plans to support every game for basically two years.

This is why they delayed arriving to HD because development of it is not easy. People these days will whine and whine when games are not at least 1080p 60fps (or 720p 30fps on the Switch) let alone it running smoothly and having all these additional features that we are not entitled to.

Remember the billions lost in HD game development by Sony and Microsoft. You think Nintendo is going to make that mistake?

Besides, no one is again forcing you to buy these DLC. The point of it is a choice. Most of the DLC is added content that isn't all that important to the plot. So the story and game is basically complete.

I have a love hate relationship with DLC as it suggests that parts of a game isn't packed into a cartridge but on the flip side, it means the community they are building is also growing and couldn't all fit at launch.

What I personally want to see is standalone DLC packs that work without having to buy/own the game. Kind of like a try before you buy and having a slice of cake to take with you on the go.

This would work so well for the Switch and basically becomes a walking advertisement for games I can't always bring with me whilst on the go. This is especially true when DLC cost about 40% of the price of the full game.

So I think instead of being against DLC, that's what we as Nintendo fans should petition for instead.

Re: Luigi's Mansion 3 Receiving Paid DLC, Will Add New Content To Multiplayer Modes

superavel

@Silly_G Just a guess but I think the plan is to have "Gold Edition" of the game with DLC codes in a couple of years times when the Switch is less than relevant. Kind of how Mario+Rabbids Kingdom Battle worked. That game is a dead giveaway of Nintendo's Player Choice program for this generation.

Personally, I'm of the camp that standalone DLC expansion packs that work without having to buy/own the game is the best type of DLC.

@PacMang The story is very simple and in line with previous Smash titles. Basically what was revealed in the Smash Direct is what happens to everyone. You're then left with Kirby to fight battles to unlock characters, spirits, etc. There are some points where there are different paths and some places where there are puzzle solving or quizzes but overall its just Smash battles.

Already have Pokémon, Luigi's Mansion 3, Dragon Quest XI S and Ni No Kuni preordered. Skipping the Witcher 3 because it is too expensive.

Re: Blizzard Has No Plans To Add Cross-Platform Progression To Overwatch Right Now

superavel

I'm still getting the game for the Switch but a cross-platform option would have been nice. I mean, disadvantage/advantage is arguable and some would like to play with a disadvantage/advantage anyway.
That's the point of having the game on different platforms: the option to start from scratch for each platform is always there but it would be nice to be able to play over multiple platforms too.

Re: Nintendo Focusing On Switch Install Base To Combat Next-Gen Performance Gap

superavel

@westman98 Yes. A lot of people seem to think a Switch Pro is the solution, not another marketing ploy.

Nintendo doesn't need a Switch Pro to succeed just as McDonald's doesn't need to sell "fresh juice" but yes, they could do it if they wanted to because it might make them more money.

And markets have proven that even a superior device doesn't always dominate the market because of things like taste which are subjective.

Nintendo could have an uber powerful Switch than puts the PS5 to shame and I bet people will still buy PS5s. That's because some people find Sony's content and console in general to be compelling and or more marketable and friendly to their needs.

We saw this with the PS2, which was the weakest of the lot and went on to become the best selling console of all time. People blame the GameCube for not being a DVD player but the Xbox could do that and Microsoft wasn't new in the gaming space despite people saying the Xbox was untested. The Xbox 360 had HD DVD, a losing format and the XBox One X was again the most powerful console and hasn't sold nearly as well as the Switch or the PS4.

Nintendo just needs to repeats what they did in 2017 and 2019 to continue selling the Switch's successfully...and that is providing compelling software to go with their hardware. Of course, if it means new hardware to help it do so then fine. If not, that's fine too.

Re: Nintendo Focusing On Switch Install Base To Combat Next-Gen Performance Gap

superavel

Make sense. Basically, Nintendo is saying that the Switch will succeed regardless of whether they rival the PS5/Next Xbox in power or not.

People seem to assume that an uber powerful Switch will change Nintendo's fortunes or something but in markets, it doesn't work that way.

That's like saying people stopped buying American cars when German and Japanese ones got good/better. It never happened.

For one there's more to a product then its performance and quality otherwise Mcdonald's would never sell.

People buy things for different reasons and as long as you know those reasons and fulfil them, people will continue buying them.

I bet even if Nintendo could make a Switch more powerful then the PS5, the PS5 would still sell for as long as it fulfils people needs.

So at the end of the day, why does the rest matter?

Re: It’s Official: The Switch Online Service Has Surpassed 10 Million Subscribers

superavel

@Cotillion I think that is the intention. Also they don't want to follow what Xbox and PlayStation is doing which is a painful expensive (even if good) service that is hard to monitor and maintain. There's a reason why they didn't put Miiverse on the Switch knowing how well it would sell. Nintendo has always done just enough for the market (young children) and the people buying for them to react accordingly.

Re: Guide: Switch Pro And Switch Mini: Everything We Know So Far

superavel

@Vectorman Well, apparently paragraphs are not grammar now. And something being beloved and popular can't be "generic" or "boring" to other people.
Wow. "FF was so a Sony title". lol.
Strange it started on the number 7 because 1 to 6 clearly doesn't exist. And you listed a somewhat dead Sonic/DK-influenced series now owned by Activision, a popular Square game ignoring the more interesting ones and a Smash clone.
Great examples dude.
Whatever man. You do you.

Re: Guide: Switch Pro And Switch Mini: Everything We Know So Far

superavel

@Vectorman Please go and learn grammar and to read between the lines before commenting and embarrassing yourself further. Seriously.

I am not an "anti-Sony basher" nor a "Nintendo fan-boy" and you say you don't generalise and assume?

I'm not being negative towards any system just stating my opinions and some perceptual truth. If you don't like it go home and have a cry.

In fact, if anything I was calling out non-specific "loyal" Nintendo fans for abandoning the Wii U due to reasons that they should have already known about. That does not make me a fanboy.

At least try to use better examples because Final Fantasy to many IS generic. Not as generic as Dragon Quest but still am. This is not even my opinion. Also as I stated Final Fantasy is not a Sony title.

My goodness, if they make a game, emotional or not that feel the same then that's being generic.

Not hard to understand.

My point is the games have an underlying tone to them that makes you recognise its a Sony, Nintendo or Ubisoft game for example.

Like anyone can recognise that Assassin's Creed was made by Ubisoft without having played a title because it gives off that Ubisoft feel.

Just as looking and acting like an Asian probably makes you an Asian.

Not hard to understand.

I also said this: "Personally, I would like to see a successful Nintendo console akin to the N64 and GameCube days but with SNES to Wii like sales and PlayStation doing portables like they did in 2005."

In order words, I like to see a competitive Nintendo doing home consoles again and a competitive Sony doing handhelds again both of which I loved.

Again tell me how I am wrong and fanboying?

Edit: Also you are again taking the whole children thing out of context like you do with everything I said. I play Nintendo games as well doesn't change that Nintendo targets these games mostly for everyone including children. Nintendo even admitted to this saying they are proud of this because the attention span of children is hard to get/please basically.

Again it is you who are looking at these things negatively. Not me.

My tone is mostly neutral.

Re: Guide: Switch Pro And Switch Mini: Everything We Know So Far

superavel

@Vectorman Whatever man. You say you don't like "generalizations" but you generalise and make assumptions about people.

I also never said Sony games were bad, just generally boring which I also stated why I feel that way: It has a similar tone and feel to them. At least the ones that are left that are owned by Sony are of a generic feel. Sony is doing this because they want to market an emotion to the mainstream mature core audience and they don't want to offend or put anyone off by having any strange emotions so they take the less is more approach and it makes them come off as somewhat "stale", "generic" and more importantly "controlled" but it works for them. You're the only one seeing it in a negative light here.

Nintendo games aren't that different really. They generally have a happy-go-luckly feel to pretty much all of them. That's because their target market is "everyone and children". The difference is they tend to execute it better and change things up once in a blue moon because children are more fickle then adults.

Which is why if you understand marketing, you would have understood why both of them do this.

Also, I said a controller for games like Starcraft and DotA 2 and some MMOs doesn't work as well as a keyboard and mouse. How am I wrong?

Re: Guide: Switch Pro And Switch Mini: Everything We Know So Far

superavel

@Vectorman I'm talking about Mario + Rabbids Kingdom Battle. Its isn't a AAA title. More like an AA. Mario is just in it but it is mostly a run-of-the-mill top-down strategy game.

Crash Bandicoot is now owned by Activision and available on the Nintendo platform and yes, I've played most Sony games: The Last of Us. Uncharted. Jack and Daxter. Ratchet & Clank. God of War. Gran Turismo. LittleBigPlanet (interesting concept). MediEvil (huge fan). Wipeout. Ape Escape (fun times). Twisted Metal. Syphon Filter. Sly Cooper. Shadow of the Colossus. Infamous.

I've also played Spyro, Sunset Overdrive and Spider-Man from Insomniac Games.

It's not all of them but its enough. I don't really plan to revisit a large chunk of these. Feel free to tell me how most of these games are groundbreaking or amazing? ...Which by the way was a joke.

Final Fantasy is from Square and arguably isn't even their best series or best in the series. It's a mainstream jRPG with complex plot points that half the time make no sense. This applies to FF7 as well.

" Console ports are not useless."
Never said it was. Just that some games don't fit on consoles very well. Full stop. I even gave examples.

Consoles have sold over 800 million units in the last 30 years or so. That's over 27 million units being sold a year.

"Why not think out-side the box? Haha. In this day & age, more people need to do more of that."

When everyone thinks outside the box, no one is?

Most companies are trying to think outside the box when it comes to making money all the time. Most the time it backfires on them because users don't like it. Just look at "surprise mechanics"
aka loot boxes?

Is it that a "normal" game or gameplay? No.
Do users like it? No.

Re: Fire Emblem: Three Houses Expansion Pass Detailed, Now Available To Pre-Purchase

superavel

@zool Well, I mean people were complaining about Day 1 DLC so I offered a solution.

Wouldn't it be better for companies like Nintendo to do standalone pre-launch DLC (in this case for $24.99) where you can actually play some parts of the game along with it instead of having to cop the whole $50-$60 dollar game, in case we end up wasting money on it because we didn't like it.

It'll sell more DLC that way and more people will end up buying and trying the game full or not and not just rely on reviews sake.

For example, I'm on the fence right now with getting Fire Emblem: Three Houses at launch because I've never finished a Fire Emblem game before. I don't hate the game or the gameplay just that permadeath (which can be turned off/avoid usually) can get a little out of hand and it takes forever to grind or load the game when mistakes happen so I end up not finishing them.

However, if they allowed me to buy the DLC by itself and most importantly play it by itself, I'll more then gladly get that at launch and buy the full game physically later when I'm done with all the DLC.

I think this is a solution for a lot of problems including what you mentioned (trade-ins, reselling, etc) and it is also much better at hyping, marketing and generally getting people to try and thus buy the full game later on.

Thoughts?

@zool Well Nintendo has done some meaty standalone DLC with Torna the Golden Country and I think Fire Emblem Three Houses will probably have the same type of DLC with Wave 4.

Not sure if you were replying to me but I think buying early DLC is fair. It allows you to get a taste of the game and gameplay before committing to the whole game.

Trading in a game is not fair for the developer, the store or yourself. Seriously, the price is usually a few dollars in value and everyone else loses out because you decided you didn't like the game.

Buying a small piece of the game, on the other hand, is very fair. Also, it keeps DLC prices down and fair because no one will buy expensive slices of a cake.
