Following on from the accidental leak earlier this week, a demo for the new action RPG Trinity Trigger has now been released on the Nintendo Switch eShop in Japan. Although it's mostly in Japanese, you can still get an idea of how it plays.
This new game published by FuRyu and developed by Three Rings is due out on 15th September in Japan. There's no word (at least yet) about a local release.
As we've previously mentioned here on Nintendo Life, this game is definitely worth a look if you're a fan of the RPG genre - with a bumper list of RPG veterans working on the project, who have previously contributed to games like Chrono Cross, the Xenoblade Chronicles series, Bravely Default, Secret of Mana and even the Pokémon series.
The development team hopes to capture the feeling of "excitement, elevation and tension" and revive the "90s era of RPG classics for the modern age". You can learn a bit more about this upcoming release in our existing coverage:

It does seems to remind me of that Final Fantasy Adventure remake, Adventures of Mana. Definitely may check it out but the graphic does look a bit too bland there though probably just early screenshots/gameplay.
Is there a video of the gameplay?
@Walter_ego I've added in an entire playthrough of the demo.
WTF!? DID THEY RELEASE A DEMO WITHOUT FORMALY ANNOUNCE THE GAME!? I can't even find a proper trailer of the game.
Seeing this reminds me I'd love to see the Chaos Ring games get a modern release.
Well can cross that one off the list. Looks like an old mobile game with those bland empty areas and even more generic RPG characters.
@fenlix not even the official website has a trailer, is confusing me.
@Xiovanni Yeah but the problem is this game is also coming to PS4 and PS5 so the mobile argument doesn't work here. The Switch version is the port and not the other way around. With Pokemon it make sense as it's exclusive only to handhelds, with this it could do better as it's trying to cater to consoles first.
Those who cried and moaned incessantly about the trees in Pokémon Sword/Shield are going to absolutely love this.
This looks great, will def be on my wishlist! Need more action RPGs like Diablo or even better, Phantasy Star Online / Zero….
@Zorox88 Chaos Ring pulled me in pretty well! They were enjoyable and did a few neat things to twist the formula. I remember praising the first game for allowing me to get lost in the world, instead of putting a damn GPS signal on everything.
Almost looks like it started life on 3DS. Which is not bad at all by my tastes
ok the demo looks already a lot better but still as someone with an art background this game has an art director problem. there are very easy things that would make this game look sooo much better... from repeating looking tiles to zero variation in the trees... also the colors in some areas are without color shifting and look bad because of that
It seems it needs some work to make it a bit more engaging. For now it looks a bit like the remake of Secret of Mana, and I don't know if I like that XD
@Dm9982 Agreed! Or something like the phantasy Star portable series on the psp. That's still one of my favourite action RPGs... no wait games of all time.
@HollowSpectre my first PS game was PSO1&2 on GameCube, loved it to death! When PSU came out on 360 it was a little rough at first, a year afterwards and some updates and it was an awesome experience online. When I found out PS Portable on PSP was a large portion of the PSU online quests, plus about 70% of the skills and their online level caps, I was sold. I bought a PSP JUST to play that. Had a blast, and heard it was gonna be made available digital so vita players could enjoy it too, so I eventually sold my psp and ps portable copy to upgrade to vita. Sadly they never did release PS portable 1 or 2 on digital stateside as far as I could tell.
I also loved PS Zero on DS, even though Ranger was a little jank on there. Fo and Hunter were well done though, and the game felt largely like a portable PSO experience. I lost my copy during a move, and was never able to find a replacement for it, though I’d love to replay it on my 3DS. Same with the DS Castlevanias, would love another crack at them.
@Dm9982 Same here! Playing PSO 1&2 split screen was amazing back then! Me and my friends at the time played it for about a year straight! I had the PS2 version of universe so it was always rough! Still got my copy of zero and I'm pleased to say it's a great experience on the 3ds. I played portable 2 for about 1000hrs plus so needless to say I was hooked. Still have it as well but hacked the vita and got it running on there. As it did get a digital release in the UK but it wasn't compatible with the vita. Ah good times.
I'm down it looks good. Haven't had a good game like this in a hot minute. Already looks better than echoes of mana.
I love this, I think it looks great, are we getting this demo outside of Japan. I will be monumentally sad if not.
Wow I like it.. please release it internationally. Might be hidden gem just like Ever Oasis, Stella Glow, Alliance Alive or Fantasy Life for me. Yes I love my 3DS so much.
@LittleGhost Echoes of Mana is straight up garbage both in gameplay and presentation.
@Serpenterror yeah it's a low bar.
This left me feeling.. whelmed.
@Miu Definitely agree with Stella Glow and Fantasy Life. I've yet to play Ever Oasis or Alliance Alive, though I do have them both.
Looks awesome! reminds me a bit of Soma Bringer for the DS (that never made it out of a japan release)
Looks pretty cool from what I skimmed through. I just hope their is a larger involvement of the creatures that you catch. I like the glow off the weapons and what not.
@Liam_Doolan thanks!
I get all the retro lovers and easy nostalgia money, but dayum, can't jrpg developers try something new and a little bit more ambitious for once? I've played COUNTLESS games in this style already... That's why I freaking love Monolith soft.
Wow. I've been waiting for an RPG like this for ages. I like the Mana, Chrono and XC vibes I'm getting.
