There are so many PS5 rereleases of PS4 games that are virtually identical, but people are more likely to buy the game because it says PS5 on the box instead of PS4. When Nintendo do the same thing, apparently they are corporate overlords and not just reacting well to consumer purchasing trends. It is a fact that more people will play Xenoblade X because there is a Switch 2 edition.

Have you played Mario & Luigi Brothership? I missed it on Switch 1, the game is compatible with my Switch 2, but would I be more likely to buy it if there was a Switch 2 edition? yes.

I think there is a conversation to be had about what a Switch 2 edition is, but I think Xenoblade X is an exception. It came out so late in the lifespan of Switch, that I think a lot of people overlooked it or skipped it because they were excited about the new console. It's already a definitive edition, it didn't need any new content, it just needed a Switch 2 edition.

Oh my god, I just installed the upgrade. The jump to 60fps is an absolute game changer for Xenoblade X. Absolutely unbelievable.

A game on a cartridge in 2026 is up to date for about five minutes, not even up to date at all if the game has a day one patch, as most games ship in pretty unfinished and unpolished states. You'd still need to download a patch. Game Key Cards still sell on eBay just as well as other cartridges. All this game preservation nonsense is nonsense. PlayStation games have been shipping unfinished data on discs for years.

I would also add that all the Sega Channel games were released as ROMs recently. Sega Channel and Satellaview being mid 90s download services, yet still the games have managed to be preserved. Stop dancing around "game preservation" and call it what it is - you have an addiction to collecting physical objects and history is not going your way.

Essentially I consider this "Dragon Quest Builders 3: Pokemon Edition". I loved the first two games, so this sequel-not-sequel has my full attention

Of course they are a pointless set if you are only buying them to customise your Switch. They are for replacements or buying for four player.

A more fleshed out single player mode would definitely have been appreciated, but I've always gravitated to tennis games exclusively for local multiplayer and by the sounds of it, this does not disappoint. @cylemmulo Tears of the Kingdom took the Breath of the Wild formula both in terms of narrative and gameplay to it's natural conclusion as far as I'm concerned. I don't include Age of Calamity or Age of Imprisonment because I have zero interest in them. The next Zelda game must rewrite everything again, be as far away from Breath of the Wild as that was from Skyward Sword. I just hope that rewrite doesn't taint the main Zelda series with Musou/Warriors bile.

@Stormcloudlive That's the path I am on too. All the excitement around the release of Silksong led me to really wonder why I've slept on Hollow Knight for so long. When they announced that a Switch 2 version was coming in December and gave it a deep discount on the eShop, I bought it in anticipation for the Switch 2 edition and having now started to play it, I am enjoying it so much that I think a Silksong purchase in the future is a given.

It's my first time ever playing Hollow Knight - I'm absolutely loving it. No wonder this game has been so revered for such a long time.

My enduring memory of Valheim is how much it blew up when it was released on Steam. This is a great get for Switch 2.

The Super Bomberman games are the best local multiplayer games ever. It's fantastic that Switch players have them now, such a brilliant release

I've never played Hollow Knight, I bought the Switch 1 version when it was on sale late last year with the intention of waiting for the Switch 2 upgrade. Here's hoping it's a surprise drop in today's Direct!

So, no indication of first party games in development until what, April? If I'd got a Switch 2 for Christmas, I'd want to know what's coming up this year now. I really think a full fledged Direct was the smarter move in February.

Got Super Mario Wonder when it came out, loved it, have a Switch 2 now and absolutely zero interest in revisiting the game or these multiplayer additions.

This is the final nail in the coffin for me, I haven't bought an Ubisoft game in years, watched as they fumbled with NFTs, thought they were the epitome of 'creating value for shareholders', but cancelling this and focusing on generative AI and games as a service, at this point they are just too far gone. I'll never buy an Ubisoft game again.

Having finished Metroid Prime 4, it makes a lot more sense to me now it's being described as the first in the "Sylux Saga"

This is going to be a tough year for any company that sells consumer products with RAM and NAND memory, I think that has a lot to do with this panic.

As for Nintendo's software for 2026, I think a lot of what they have planned for the year is as of yet unannounced and a February Direct will likely shine a light on the year.

I'm aware I'm stating the blindingly obvious, but a slightly pale purple and pale turquoise surround to the analogue sticks does not make me want to buy joy cons. When they decide to colour the whole thing, I'll bite.

I have played the PSX and the 3DS version of DQ7. This demo already shows Reimagined to be the best version of the game. So excited to play the full version.

Like some of you, I would also like Dragon Quest Builders 3, but the team that made the first two have just made Pokemon Pokopia. If they do Builders 3 next, no chance it will release this year.

I think the team that have made DQ7 Reimagined are starting work on DQ8 Remake, The HD-2D team will now make HD-2D versions of 4, 5 and 6. The aim is obviously to have all numbered titles playable on modern systems. I do hope that DQX offline is also part of the plan for the west and fingers crossed for a big DQ12 reveal this year.

This article is scarily well timed as I bought a copy of Ring Fit Adventure on Boxing Day, with the intention of improving my fitness level. I missed it the first time round, but still have my old Switch for the joy cons. Was genuinely shocked to see this article.

I've played through Xenoblade Chronicles 2 twice, it's a brilliant game. A Switch 2 definitive edition with all DLC and Torna included would be something I would definitely buy.

I finished this game, I don't remember it being bad in the slightest, but I suppose the issue is that I don't remember a single thing about the game, no enemy, no area, no piece of dialogue, whereas I do remember vividly both it's predecessor and it's successor.

When the trailer started and I saw Samus on the bike, I thought it was a different Metroid game, that it couldn't possibly be Prime 4. Then Samus got off the bike and it obviously was. All of the excitement I've had for this game just drained out of me. Not at all what I was expecting or hoping for.

Re the idea of a dock that will provide higher resolution graphics, can you explain how you think that would even be possible given that everything would be running through the Switch's USB bus? Ok, I'll answer the question for you - it is theoretically impossible, so you might as well stop speculating about a dock upgrade.
