Mistranslated or not, this is exactly what Capcom's being doing on Nintendo consoles for a decade. On Wii, they released a bunch of games in the first two years of the console and when they didn't sell enough ('cos Capcom thinks each one of their games should sell 10 millions) they pulled the plug. On WiiU, it took just a few months and 2 games to forget the console ever existed.
Don't be surprised if this is the first and last Capcom game you see on the console, and it's probably all for the best. They are a collective of imbeciles.

Most of the problems reported in the article are probably due to poor storaging - I personally have never had any of these problems. I have a few albums that belong to the very first generation of CD pressings, most notably Bob Dylan's Biograph box set (1985) and still plays perfectly. My Beatles records, again first CD pressing 1987-1989 are mint, despite me playing them constantly. And mind you, these objects are 10 years or more older than those analysed in the article. My Pink Floyd CDs (probably second pressing, circa '94) play as well as any new remastered edition in the shops at the moment. All my Dreamcast games are fine and look good. Nothing is "indestructible", but If you take good care of them, certainly CDs are one of the nicest supports available.
@SLIGEACH_EIRE here's yet another reason I'll probably get a PS4 rather than the Switch. I'm just tired of turning on the eShop every week and see there's literally nothing of value to get at a discount, while on PSN (and mind you, I have a PS3, which is supposed to be more dead than the WiiU) you can still get first rate games with 50 to 75% off every other week. Unfortunately, I'm one of those adults who can't afford to spend their whole salary on games, and even before buying a single full priced one I have to think carefully and save some money in advance. As good or as successful the Switch may become in the futere, I don't see this aspect of Nintendo changing anytime: they are always going to be the least convenient company to buy from.
Let's be clear, the lack of a web-browser or streaming apps won't be a deal breaker if people have already decided to buy the console. However, it feels like a step back from WiiU, which allowed you to surf the web or stream videos mid-game by simply pausing it.
I use the WiiU web browser a lot - sometimes to search for tips or maps, other times simply to check the newspaper or the forums while I take a break from a game. With the Switch, I would need to pull out another electronic device to do something as simple as checking the online newspaper if I want to take a 60 second break from a game.
It's just impractical, especially when you're "on the go" (a big Switch selling point) or in public, where maybe you don't want - and shouldn't - pull £1000 worth of electronic devices out of your backpack. And yeah, most of us have a smartphone, but the Switch is a portable console that you can take anywhere and can plug to the telly - wouldn't it be nice to watch Netflix or Youtube on an hotel TV rather than on a smartphone?!
To me it just shows that the Switch was rushed out to meet the release of Zelda, so they could launch it with a system seller. Lack of games at launch, lack of basic features at launch, lack of details for online services etc - sounds like a product that was literally kicked out of the factory before it was completed.
Don't be shocked if the console has a first day system update bigger than that of WiiU.
It's alright - so far, I got more playtime out of this than from all the other free-to-play Nintendo games combined on 3DS, WiiU and mobile. I'm not a Fire Embelm fan and I find absurd that something so dull as this has replaced Advance Wars as their main strategy series, but nontheless I'm playing the game and I'm enjoying it.
I hope Nintendo prices the Switch dev kit a million euro, so all these awful devs like Joindots, EnjoyUp or others won't get it. I'm sick and tired of seeing their awful games on sale on the WiiU eShop every week.
I honestly wouldn't feel confortable bringing the Switch + 1-2-Switch at a party with people. Unless all your friends are videogame fans who would play it just to test Nintendo's new console and games, I don't see the appeal it could have in a social setting. To me it seems it's the kind of bad game that forces people to do stuff through a videogame that could easily be done in real life with everyday objects. I personally don't think we need a videogame to see who picks up the object first, or who eats the sandwich first, or who guesses how many marbles are in the bag. I think many non-gamers will look at this game as "here's another product for something nobody needed in the first place" and realize that a pack of playing cards, a few sheets of paper and pens are still unbeatable.
As usual with this company, they announce one thing and then do an entirely different thing altogether. The Switch was announced as a new system which wouldn't have replaced neither the WiiU nor the 3DS. The truth is that the Switch is just another home console that has replaced the WiiU, and the replacement for the 3DS will come shortly afterwards when interest in the 3DS begins to lower. It's as easy as that.
The 3DS is their parachute in case the Switch underperforms. It inexplicably sells really well even though they keep releasing the same game for it over and over. They could put together a Fire Emblem game in a weekend and it'll sell well, or reskin a JRPG from 1968 and it'll still turn a profit. So they are going to keep it around for a while until they'll find a way to produce another portable system with cheap technology and then they'll release another handheld to live side-by-side with the Switch.
Being in Italy, I didn't get much of a choice - it's Amazon without any bonus frill. GameStop used to give away additional stuff with preorders (I got a nice Splatoon shirt back in 2015!) but I guess they are not bothering anymore with WiiU. Would love to get the Nintendo UK version with the shirt but 60 quid is just demential if the street price is £20 cheaper (and on top of that I would have to pay for shipping because I'm not in the UK). No thanks.
Luckly I didn't back this - I own no other console and I don't have a gaming PC. I recommend all the people who backed this to ask a refund, even if they have the option to change it for another platform. You'll get it later on, but at least you'll give them a signal. If they end up having to give back say $200.000 in refunds, they'll learn they have to keep their word and not just go where the wind blows.
There reason developers do this is because they know the majority of people will accept everything they say as long as they get the game, but this behaviour screws up all the people who have no other means to play what they paid for. Support the people like you for once instead of supporting developers who don't care about you.
So, really, ask for a refund, if only to support all the customers who have no choice. Then when the game is out on other systems do whatever you want but at least at this stage prove them they are doing something wrong.
The world is full of real bovines that would LOVE to be milked for real, for free!! And these two gits just spent €50 to pretend they're doing it in front of the telly... This game is not just laughably awful, it's also morally wrong.
I'm going to get Breath of the Wild on WiiU on 3/03. The Switch will have to wait at least until mid 2018. I've bought 2 current systems from Nintendo in the last 4 years and I don't think I need to give them more money. Also, considering I can play Zelda on WiiU, buying the Switch at launch would simply mean forking out €350 to wait. I can wait for much cheaper than that!
I want to wait until The Switch has enough games that interest me. When the thing has, say, 10 retail games that I really want to buy, I may start to consider purchasing one. Hopefully, by that time we'll have bundles, a proper release schedule, an healthy online community, an eShop with many games to choose from and so on.
This is an excellent way to keep parents and children apart. Finally you will be able to control your children playtime remotely without you ever needing talking to them!! Why get in the room to tell them they should stop playing if you can do it from your office?!
Thanks to Nintendo you can finally be an absent parent, and a fascist, for the small price of a single smartphone app. And don't forget, in doing so you'll give Nintendo free access to all the information about your child's playing habits and taste. But it comes in the form of a cartoon with Bowser so it must be the right thing to do!!!
90s Arcade Racer probably got some bug, like the bad Nicalis AIDS and died. That's what happens when you let Nicalis touch your games. This game however looks supercool and I appreciate them committing to the WiiU, so it's an instant-buy from me.
it's not a big deal...languages and dubbing tied to system language is protocol nowadays. You can't really blame Nintendo as this is a current trend, and for 95% of the buyers doesn't seem to make any difference. Still, it's a bummer overall that developers got rid of the old in-game option screen to set language and subtitles. I used videogames a lot as a learning tool when I was studying both english (when I was young) and spanish (in recent years)...
It's not a big surprise but sure it's sad to have it confirmed. I'm sure the servers for Mario Kart 8 and Splatoon will be up and running for a while, simply because there's so many people who still play those games (combined, they sold approx. 11 million copies) and I don't see the Switch selling so strongly as to justify closing the servers for the previous console, at least this year.
All in all, I think the WiiU audience did a great job at buying games - some of the first party titles sold a lot more than AAA games on other consoles, and if you think of the incredibly small user-base, it's unbelievable. Those sales kept Nintendo afloat, no doubt - so it's sad to see the console AND its owners being swept under the carpet like dirt.
I have no idea why Nintendo recalled all the consoles from stores, nor why they didn't mention anything about the future of the console unless when asked directly (even Breath of the Wild on WiiU received next to no mention recently). It seems that because of the astronomically bad reputation of the WiiU, they are literally trying to erase it from people's memory. I don't know, but if that was the case, it would be another major mistake. Sweeping products and customers under the carpet if plan-A doesn't work is never a safe move, because now I - a WiiU owner and Nintendo fan - have even less reasons to trust the company than somebody coming from Sony/Microsoft consoles.
People may say it makes sense "financially" but I'm not so sure about that anymore: I mean, if Nintendo has earned a reputation for being a collective of lazy, greedy basterds, they must be doing something wrong.
So, eh, I'm not surprised - just disappointed that Nintendo decided to end the "WiiU chapter" in such an unstylish manner. Ironically, they put more care in killing Club Nintendo than the WiiU.
I think, the saddest thing is seeing something as stupid as videogames being turned into some kind of class warfare, with people attacking each other because they are willing/they are not willing to spend money on technology. I mean, I thought watching people pretending they are milking cows on 1-2-Switch was the saddest thing of the week, but this tops it...
@Gobelee I think you didn't get my point and actually confirmed what I was saying. Average cost of basic living has gone way up = a lot of people can't afford to fork out 50 quid at whim for a luxury item such as a videogame (that doesn't mean people don't do it though). Steam and the mobile market may have devalued games but at the same time they have enlarged the videogame audience to no extent and videogames sell a ton more than they used before those two markets came over - as a matter of fact, games may be slighlty cheaper but the industry has never been wealthier/healthier. Am I surprised people are interested in Bomberman all of a sudden?! Yeah, I am. But I didn't say anything about the game being worth it or not - I don't care.
I'm not here to argue about the price, but can people stop going "I paid 50 quid for a videogame in 1978 so I don't see why people complain"?!. Please stop, it's just stupid. As if economy, average wages, average cost of life, set price of electronic goods etc didn't change at all during the last quarter of a century...
It's not a big deal now, but it's going to be a problem later on. I don't see many 3rd parties porting multi-platform games if they have to run into the inconvenience of changing/downgrading their games to fit the Switch's specs. Also, have we decided what the Switch is or are we waiting for Nintendo to announce the NX2?! Is it a home system that you can carry around or a portable system that connects to the telly?! Because, actual state of affairs, it just seems to offer the worst of both worlds (the high price and paid services of home consoles finally meets the limited power and short battery life of portables!!).
I think the lack of a pack-in software is going to disappoint a lot of people, especially the general public. It's so frustrating to buy a new "toy" for a premium price and then discover you have to fork out €50 more to see it in action (although I woldn't call 1-2-Switch "action"). Nintendo may have all the reasons in the world to charge what they charge for the system, but this doesn't change the fact that normally in the west consoles come with a pack-in game, full stop. They could have saved some money by not including the HDMI cable and the USB cable, which most people already have at home for sure, but not including the game is simply moronic. Any game would have worked, even a collection of demos.
On a positive note, at least not too many people will expecience the joy of pretending you're milking a cow.
Abysmal week. All the discounted games stink and...seriously, do developers think 0,20 cent off is a "discount" now?! Like "I was on the fence about buying that game but oh boy, €0,20 off is sooo tempting...now I can buy the game AND with the money I save, I can get one single chewing gum!!"
I love Miiverse and it is my favourite place to ask for help and tips and to see what the actual buyers think of the games. I believe a lot of people totally misunderstood it - it is actually great once you build your own list of friends who are active, who play a lot of games and are interesting to read. And honestly I love being able to ask "Where is the last coin in this stage?!" and get replies that are actually helpful. Also, I was able to write anything I wanted and never had to deal with any kind of moderation, so it always surprises me to see so many people got banned. I don't understand why they are trying to destroy everything that was cool about the WiiU. New console looking less and less appealing.
The machine looks alright, but none of the games shown were something that couldn't have been made on WiiU, so I'm still struggling to find a reason why I should buy the new console. And given that they halted everything just to get this system ready, I expected so much more. See you in late 2018, Switch!!
My experience with WiiU was mostly positive - great games being released at a somewhat "human" pace that allowed me to buy most of what interested me, great support from indies up until some point, great community of people (still love Miiverse). However, it's my experience with Nintendo as a company that really sucked this generation: awful distribution, terrible pricing decisions (asking people to pay fees to play games that are already in your console is simply monstrous), dodgy practices when it comes to manipulating demand/sales of products, especially physical games in unexplicable super-limited editions, the replacement of a service that was bad (Club Nintendo) with one that is even worse (MyNintendo). Most of all, I hated that the Switch/NX was announced so soon and that all the attention and all the resources where shifted to the new console just 2.5 years into the WiiU lifespan, leaving the console in a miserable condition for basically it's last year and a half...
@Raptor78 yeah, I though - Nintendo may have dropped support, but at least we have indies to make the transition from WiiU to Switch as painless as possible. Next thing we know, all the indies are dropping support too. Of course this wouldn't be a problem if I had 200+ quid to fork out for a brand new console, but in the last 4 years I bought 2 current-gen consoles from Nintendo (a WiiU and a 3DS XL) and it would be ludicrous to buy a 3rd current-gen console in 4 years simply because "plan A didn't work as expected"...
If the new system doesn't sell as expected and the trend is just "replace your current system with a new one", I expect them to announce an NX2 two years from now and pull support from the Switch. That would really make me laugh...
Bummer - add this to the neverending list of indie games that have been cancelled on WiiU for "unforseen circumstances" (aka, the Switch): Limbo, RIVE, forma.8, Bloodstained, Stardew Valley, Yooka-Laylee etcetera. I don't know about you but the Switch isn't even out yet and I already hate it because, apparently, the only effect it produced is to discourage indie developers even more from releasing on WiiU...
It's a poor week for those who have been buying indie games on the eShop for a while (all the interesting games in the list have been discounted previously, except for Severed) but for those who are catching up, with a single 15 quid eShop card you can get some of the best games on the system (Guacamelee, OlliOlli, Stealth Inc. 2, Lone Survivor etc), so it's not a bad week. I will probably get Severed, although a 30% off is not exactly what I consider a "bargain" (but the game is just a couple of months old, so it's understandable).
The previous "talking point" clearly showed that there's only two kinds of people who still "support" this guy and developers like him: One is developers who are as bad as he is and think they can take advantage of people's naiveness and good faith the same way he's doing. So when they say that there's nothing wrong in what this guy is doing, they actually mean they do it too, or will start to do it soon. The second type is amateurish journalists who run blogs or youtube channels with a very very limited audience - they defend these awful developers because their blogs/youtube channels depend on promo codes they send to them - because obviously a well respected studio would never send a promo code to a youtube channel or a blog with just a handful of subscribers.
If you take a look at the comments in the "talking point" from a couple of weeks ago, this situation is very obvious.
Luckly though, RCMADIAX has stated he's not going to give NL any more promo codes in the future. Which doesn't solve the problem but it's a "out of sight out of mind" kind of thing. It's like we moved ebola to some place where we can't see it.
They all look good to great - especially Forma.8 (which was one of my favourites back when the E3 demo was released). But I can't hide the fact that I'm pretty disappointed with RIVE not being released on WiiU. I loved the demo so much.
Futuridium EP looks great. Really diggin' the "Minter" vibe. My only concern is that it'll be too much based on memorisation and twitch reflexes to be any fun. I love shooters, I really really do, but if I had to memorise patterns, I'd rather memorise a Cave game. It looks great though, I need to investigate more on that.
It's a great news. Try to see it under a different light, people. If Nintendo makes a lot of money by selling their games to the billion user market on iOS, it hopefully means they'll stop squeezing every cent out of their modest console user market (which is us). Personally, I am tired of them trying to sell overpriced menu skins for your 3DS or crane plays for 1 buck a pop. I am also tired of overpriced limited editions that you have to fight for with a knife between your teeth for a console that only has 10 million users. So I hope they make a lot of money with the iOS market and hopefully they'll stop asking their console users to pay for every pixel on their home/handheld systems... Besides...it's just a Mario game. Nintendo has used and abused this licence on every kind of item (slot machines, pachinko, backpacks, hats, school items, plushes, keychains, Panasonic consoles ect) so what's the big deal with an iOS game?!
Yeah not sure how realistic it is - I'm pretty sure my car goes way faster in reverse...btw had they re-skinned the game as a fishing boat racer, it would have been a lot more realistic = Cod'N Pollack Racer. I think I could never go past the first Cup. And I got really frustrated because when CPU cars get stuck they teleport back on track but if you get stuck then god help you, you basically lose one lap, minimum...
@samuelvictor yeah mate, I almost bought the DX version - I thought, what the hell, it only costs a couple of quid - but then I had the brilliant idea of asking on Miiverse if they fixed anything and when I got no reply I decided not to buy it. TNT Racers is superb. I know it doesn't look like much on video but the cars handle extremely well. I've never played a top-down racing game before where the camera doesn't follow you but the car in first position (and if you get outrun by the screen, you basically die) but it's incredibly fun once you get the hang of it. Let's say it's a combat racer in the style of R.C. Pro AM, and there's a weapon that lets you knock your opponents out of the track - everybody loves using that. The only thing missing is an online vs mode, but if you happen to have a bunch of mates around, you just have to uncork a bottle of wine, open a bag of crisps and play this in 4 player mode and you'll have a great night.
...and if you watch the video at 0'28" - 0'32", the number in the bottom-left that indicates your position goes absolutely bananas for no reason at all...
No please!! The first Rock'N Racing was unplayable. Cars handled as fluidly as a british tank in the desert. It was extremely buggy and the only way I could win a race was to wait for other cars to glitch and flash and get stuck in a different existential dimension. CPU cars magically teleporting back on track, it was ridiculous. It was one of the worst racing games ever, and they had the audacity to release a Deluxe version without ever patching the first one. I also doubt that the Deluxe version had any of these issues fixed... I ADORE top-down racing games but this is simply not a well produced series. There's another top-down racer on the eShop which is an absolute belter of a game - TNT Racers - I highly recommend that!

Re: Kimishima on the Role of the 3DS After the Switch Launch
The 3DS is their parachute in case the Switch underperforms. It inexplicably sells really well even though they keep releasing the same game for it over and over. They could put together a Fire Emblem game in a weekend and it'll sell well, or reskin a JRPG from 1968 and it'll still turn a profit.
So they are going to keep it around for a while until they'll find a way to produce another portable system with cheap technology and then they'll release another handheld to live side-by-side with the Switch.
Re: Nintendo Details UK Pre-Order Bonuses For Zelda: Breath Of The Wild
Being in Italy, I didn't get much of a choice - it's Amazon without any bonus frill. GameStop used to give away additional stuff with preorders (I got a nice Splatoon shirt back in 2015!) but I guess they are not bothering anymore with WiiU.
Would love to get the Nintendo UK version with the shirt but 60 quid is just demential if the street price is £20 cheaper (and on top of that I would have to pay for shipping because I'm not in the UK). No thanks.
Re: Yooka-Laylee Formally Confirmed for Switch Along With Wii U Backer Options
Re: Video: Tiny Cartridge Captures the Delicious Awkwardness of Milking in 1-2-Switch
The world is full of real bovines that would LOVE to be milked for real, for free!! And these two gits just spent €50 to pretend they're doing it in front of the telly...
This game is not just laughably awful, it's also morally wrong.
Re: Poll: What Are Your Nintendo Switch Pre-Order and Launch Day Plans?
Re: Parent Trap: Nintendo Switch Parental Controls Beat Console Rivals To The Punch
Re: Switch Will Succeed By Offering Something You Can't Get On PlayStation Or Xbox, Says Randy Pitchford
You certainly can't get anything like 1-2-Switch on other consoles. And that's why they sell.
Re: Ghost Blade HD Is Bringing Intense Bullet Hell Action To The Wii U eShop
Amazing!! I wanted this for Dreamcast for long but it was very pricey - so glad I can get it on WiiU!!
Re: Racing Apex Puts The Pedal To The Metal For A Nintendo Switch Release
90s Arcade Racer probably got some bug, like the bad Nicalis AIDS and died. That's what happens when you let Nicalis touch your games. This game however looks supercool and I appreciate them committing to the WiiU, so it's an instant-buy from me.
Re: Eiji Aonuma Confirms that Breath of the Wild Will Not Support a Japanese Dub Over English Subtitles
it's not a big deal...languages and dubbing tied to system language is protocol nowadays.
Re: Reggie on Wii U Support Going Forward
Re: Editorial: Pricing Blunders Have Distorted The Narrative Around Nintendo Switch
Re: Super Bomberman R's Retail Price Has Finally Been Confirmed
Re: Super Bomberman R's Retail Price Has Finally Been Confirmed
I'm not here to argue about the price, but can people stop going "I paid 50 quid for a videogame in 1978 so I don't see why people complain"?!. Please stop, it's just stupid.
As if economy, average wages, average cost of life, set price of electronic goods etc didn't change at all during the last quarter of a century...
Re: Here's How Dragon Quest Heroes II On Switch Shapes Up Against The PS4 Version
Re: Nintendo Switch Lacks Pack-In Title Because It's $299, Says Reggie Fils-Aime
Re: Nintendo Download: 19th January (Europe)
Abysmal week. All the discounted games stink and...seriously, do developers think 0,20 cent off is a "discount" now?! Like "I was on the fence about buying that game but oh boy, €0,20 off is sooo tempting...now I can buy the game AND with the money I save, I can get one single chewing gum!!"
Re: Nintendo Switch Won't Have Miiverse Or StreetPass
Re: Poll: What Did You Think of the Nintendo Switch Presentation?
The machine looks alright, but none of the games shown were something that couldn't have been made on WiiU, so I'm still struggling to find a reason why I should buy the new console. And given that they halted everything just to get this system ready, I expected so much more. See you in late 2018, Switch!!
Re: Soapbox: Why I Still Love the Wii U
Re: The Next Penelope Cancelled On Wii U, But Nintendo Switch Version Could Happen
Re: The Next Penelope Cancelled On Wii U, But Nintendo Switch Version Could Happen
Re: Nintendo Download: 12th January (Europe)
It's a poor week for those who have been buying indie games on the eShop for a while (all the interesting games in the list have been discounted previously, except for Severed) but for those who are catching up, with a single 15 quid eShop card you can get some of the best games on the system (Guacamelee, OlliOlli, Stealth Inc. 2, Lone Survivor etc), so it's not a bad week.
I will probably get Severed, although a 30% off is not exactly what I consider a "bargain" (but the game is just a couple of months old, so it's understandable).
Re: Review: TOUCH SELECTIONS (Wii U eShop)
The previous "talking point" clearly showed that there's only two kinds of people who still "support" this guy and developers like him:
One is developers who are as bad as he is and think they can take advantage of people's naiveness and good faith the same way he's doing.
Re: Feature: Future Nindie Hits for the eShop - October to December
They all look good to great - especially Forma.8 (which was one of my favourites back when the E3 demo was released). But I can't hide the fact that I'm pretty disappointed with RIVE not being released on WiiU. I loved the demo so much.
Re: Nintendo Download: 15th September (Europe)
Futuridium EP looks great. Really diggin' the "Minter" vibe. My only concern is that it'll be too much based on memorisation and twitch reflexes to be any fun. I love shooters, I really really do, but if I had to memorise patterns, I'd rather memorise a Cave game. It looks great though, I need to investigate more on that.
Re: Nintendo Appears at Apple Conference to Announce Super Mario Run
Re: Grand Prix Rock 'N Racing Gets Close to the Finish Line on Wii U
Yeah not sure how realistic it is - I'm pretty sure my car goes way faster in reverse...btw had they re-skinned the game as a fishing boat racer, it would have been a lot more realistic = Cod'N Pollack Racer. I think I could never go past the first Cup. And I got really frustrated because when CPU cars get stuck they teleport back on track but if you get stuck then god help you, you basically lose one lap, minimum...
Re: Grand Prix Rock 'N Racing Gets Close to the Finish Line on Wii U
Re: Grand Prix Rock 'N Racing Gets Close to the Finish Line on Wii U
...and if you watch the video at 0'28" - 0'32", the number in the bottom-left that indicates your position goes absolutely bananas for no reason at all...
Re: Grand Prix Rock 'N Racing Gets Close to the Finish Line on Wii U
