Re: Random: Mario Kart 64 Nearly Had A 'No Item' Mode To Appeal To F-Zero Fans

MK8DX is very technical when you remove the items. The kart set up, racing lines, drafting, drift+boost, and avoiding mistakes are critical for winning without items. The time trial mode is an excellent example of how you have to learn the course and the fastest ways to push the kart through the track to beat the staff ghosts. And you're alone in that mode. If you race other karts without items, you have to employ all those technical skills to win and it's way more challenging.

Re: 40% Of Europe's Mario Strikers Switch Sales Come From Just One Country

First, I play the game and enjoy it.

Not to be cynical, but I have seen a lot of comments in multiple places about people saying that they had a bad experience at first, so now they're waiting for the update before playing more. But what do people expect? Truly curious. Will the addition of Daisy (or other characters) really change the game for you? Nintendo gave zero promise of changing the solo/story mode, and I doubt they would do that since it would make the picture seem worse - "they updated the story later, this really was a half-baked game."

I just find it hard to believe that any updates are going to make the experience better for those who didn't enjoy it at launch.

Re: Nintendo Reveals Opening Cinematic For Mario Strikers: Battle League

@YoshiF2 That link isn't definitive. It doesn't say that Nintendo confirmed these are the only 10 characters.
"Mario Strikers: Battle League is set to release next month, and Nintendo has now revealed a list of the 10 playable characters that will appear...At this time, it's unclear if there will be more players unlocked over time, or if we'll see more additions through post-launch content."

The roster list hasn’t been confirmed as released yet. They’ve only shown a limited gameplay video and the intro video. Let’s not make assumptions (there’s a small roster, only new characters via DLC, a small roster wouldn’t be good, etc) until we have more information?

I’m sure we’ll get more gameplay videos super soon. They’re still just coming off of Switch Sports.

Re: Splatoon 2 DLC Is Now Part Of The Nintendo Switch Online Expansion Pack

sisodinr

For anyone who had bought it before now, would you have rather had it back when you originally bought it and got to enjoy it at that time instead of now? Or would you have rather waited if you knew it would be free later?
Honestly curious. I picked up Splatoon 2 only last year and I'm really enjoying it. Had I picked it up in 2017 or 2018, I would have been more tempted to buy the DLC then and I would have been pleased about getting to play it years in advance. We all also buy things at certain times due to different factors. So I'm honestly curious.

Re: Nintendo Reminds Us Splatoon 3 Is Still On The Way (Again)

I don't understand the criticism and skepticism of Splatoon 3? For anyone who played S2, you know that the story mode (minus onto expansion) isn't THAT great. The gameplay is fine, but the story-telling side is quite interesting. I expect that this will update the story gameplay in new interesting ways, and will also build on the story (which makes sense for a sequel...).
The multi-player will get updated weapons and maps, and build upon the existing. Would it have been okay just to port Splatoon 1 to the Switch with no updates? I don't think so, and I'm pleased a Splatoon 2 was made (in 2017).

Re: Virtua Racing-Inspired 'Formula Retro Racing' Speeds Onto Switch This April

This looks mighty interesting. I'll stay tuned.
With the growth of Formula One lately, I imagine it's only a matter of time before there's a right proper Formula One racing game made for the Switch. I know the last official F1 Game was for 2021 and came out for PS4 & PS5, but I'm really hoping we'll get something for the Switch sometime soon (regardless of graphics). I think the only thing close to a right proper realistic racing game on the Switch has been GRID? And we're not getting the newest iteration that just released this year on other systems. Of course, though, I still find Mario Kart entirely enjoyable and and consider it to a right proper realistic racing game...

Re: Mario Strikers: Battle League Switch File Size Seemingly Revealed

sisodinr

To be fair, I'm not surprised given the content of the first two games. There wasn't a lot going on in Strikers Charged outside of the few main game cups and the online mode. Assuming a similar pattern, I still won't be disappointed. Even with its "limited" content, Strikers Charged was one of my favorite games of all time because (like all Mario sports games) it was best played with others - either local or online. They're not meant to be a FIFA or MLB career campaign game.

I think MK8DX was something north of 6GB? This seems like it will require much less detail than the sprawling tracks of a racing game, and as others have mentioned, Nintendo are compression wizards.

Regardless, I'll be buying a physical edition on day one.
