Splatoon 3 drops this September and in the lead up, Nintendo has been sharing new information, screenshots and videos.
The latest social media post from the Squid Research Lab takes a close up look at the enemy Octoling. All potential Agent 3s will want to keep an eye on them, as they "move and attack" just like a squid. The difference separating the two is that Octolings apparently have "better hair"...
Apart from a look at some of the game's characters and enemies, the Squid Research Lab has been showing off the new and returning weapons. It has also shared some music tracks - introducing some new bands.
What do you think of the Octoling character designs for Splatoon 3? Leave your thoughts below.

Please tell me that furry texture is some kind of weird anti-spoiler masking like the disruptive camo covers on prototype cars, and NOT what they are actually going to look like.
I'm pretty sure it is, because you can see hella jagged seams around the photoshopping, and it's not like Nintendo to release promotional stills that are so badly done unless it's on purpose.
Part of me is scared to death that they really think this is a good look.
R.I.P. Tanooki Mario. 1988-2022
Cause of death: Stripped nekky nokky nakey.
Why they fluffy, lol.
...Now I want an amiibo of fuzzy Octolings.
@SmileMan64 : With real fuzz!
Or they could go all Woolly Yoshi on us and give us an all-fluffy Octoling amiibo.
Please no. Octopuses are not supposed to be fuzzy
Octolings know about wash day!
Yeah, that furry look is noooot good.
These Ocotlings are probably under the influence of the mamalians.
Eww, those designs are fugly. I usually love furry characters but fur on an octopus just feels so wrong.
Furry tentacle girls in leather. Nintendo finally understands this Internet thing!!
wow talk about baby's got back!!! it's perfectly round!!!
What a horrific mutation. Poor octoling..
It’s somehow triggering me in a body horror sense. I don’t like it
Having a humanoid creature with fur like head hair is horrid, it looks uncanny to how actual head hair looks like in that hair style. I can't believe they didn't just give them scales (even though its not really octopus, but still better.)
I think they just grew hairy mold haha
They’re furry…WHY ARE THEY FURRY? AND WHO APPROVED THIS NIGHTMARE FUEL?!
This is obviously something to do with those mamalians....
Looks like a rapper.
Very on brand. ^^
Ngl, that looks very odd and out of place.
Considering how you can actually play as Octolings in the single player now.... this opens up a whole new can of worms.
Everyone in here forgetting that the theme of this game is "Return of the Mammalians".
@NEStalgia,
I don't think I was the slightest bit bothered about this, until I read some of the comments, well pretty much all of the comments, now I am not sure what I think.
Has anyone forgotten its about the "Mamalians"? They probably have mamal-dna in them.
@RupeeClock @Henmii Exactly, the octos' latest plot to take over the world probably implies some horrific genetic engineering where they've spliced in Judd's DNA to create nightmare fuel octopus-cat hybrids. These weird furry tentacles were already shown in one of the earlier trailers, so I don't know why people are losing their ink over them now.
@zap-switch neither have arms nor legs, but you know...
@gloom I give it one Cronenberg out of five. It's weird, but not the most horrific thing I've seen from the body horror genre.
@Rosalinho @RupeeClock @Zeldinion Nintendolife: RIP Mammalians (2021-2022)
I think there could have been a better way that "mammalians" could have been done besides just taking the octolings and making their tentacles furry. Maybe give them real people hair mixed with octopus tentacles or something.
Fantastic dlc.
Well that's sort of odd. I liked them being all slick and stuff since it fit in with it all. But when you make DLC into a full game, you gotta go big or go home I suppose.
Looks amazing, sucker-thumbs up for inventiveness.
I don't like fur. It's coarse and rough and irritating, and it gets everywhere.
For anyone criticizing Splatoon 3 as just DLC...just don't buy it. It's apparently not for you.
I actually like the texture a lot
Yeah, Splatoon 3 is looking incredibly uninspired to me. They started out big with that announcement trailer showing the open desert area with an inverted Eifel Tower, but everything since then has been a letdown. Salmon Run looks almost completely unchanged, and the story mode seems to be "We took all the enemies from the other two games and made them fuzzy, because mammals." I'm just really not sure if I'm feeling it.
Just wait for the direct. There’s no way they showed us “everything” yet.
@Fiskern
Yeah but seeing tentacles with fur on them is like seeing a cat with fish scales it just doesn't belong on that animal.
I’ve seen a cat creature with fish scales before…
@zap-switch and seeing an octopus with around is also weird...
The hair texture looks so... Fuzzy.
@Why_Do_I_Exist I can see you are a man of culture. Let me also introduce you to sand.
I love the design they will be called Mamalings!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
p.s. what will the ink look like or the octopus form?
p.p.s i think they should put in a mammal extension
