Re: 3DS System Update 10.0.0-27 Is Available Now

@JeffreyG And THAT is why I want a Nintendo phone. $500 Samsung, $40 LG0 both crash frequently and shatter if dropped a foot. my $90 2DS falls in the river, gets knocked into the pool, falls 10 feet onto a hard floor, and still doesn't have a mark on it. Can you imagine a Nintendo phone

Re: The Smaller New Nintendo 3DS Model is Coming to North America

@Rocky2418 i DO understand their login system, to a degree. With Steam, i can play almost none of my games without being logged into the internet. I have 2 friends 1000s of miles apart that log in as me and play my games when i am away- as soon as i log in, they get kicked off. That's fine, since its on a desktop gaming PC that CAN have a server connected. The 3DS is an online system, but its a handheld-people take it shopping, camping, on the bus. Outside of adding a data plan to it, if all you need was a log in, i'd sooo sell my login name for $200 and let 5,000 people log in as me and play all my games...

Re: Amazon Now Offering Nintendo Games For Direct Digital Download

russellohh

@ledreppe I can see that. Since Nintendo has only had this digital partnership up for a few hours, however, i'd like to see where it goes- Amazon has digital downloads for Steam games and Origin games, but they are quite frequently half the price of either. I'd be interested to see if they can do something similar with a Nintendo digital partnership. I actually saw digital Nintendo as much cheaper than physical for a long time, because there was a ...quirk...in gamestop's trade-in values that let you get a $400 store credit for about $130. Sure, they had a few of the physical games i needed, but not all- it was easier to get a $100 credit for $30, then buy $100 worth of digital games. they eventually closed that loophole, however.

Re: Amazon Now Offering Nintendo Games For Direct Digital Download

@DoctorWily both my credit card and a market research group give me amazon gift cards every month that apply automatically when i try to purchase something. i can use that on anything, sure, but paying for a vacation on my credit card got me a $100 amazon gift card- i could just click Buy several times, and purchase the full virtual console library.

Re: New Patent Sparks Talk of Potential NX Details

@TheRealThanos since the 3DS and Wii U both require a new SD card or external to be even remotely usable, i consider the external drive to simply be a part of the system, just like a controller or stylus. Both my 3DS and Wii U's built in/out-of-the-box memory were 100% filled on day one. I prefer Nintendo's approach, honestly: PSVita memory cards are $70 for a little 32GB- Nintendo using a standardized, third party flash SD system cost me $12 for 32GB. Likewise, an iPod or iPhone with the 16GB might cost 250- the 32GB version, identical in any other way, costs $350. Doubling 16 to 32GB of flash costs a grand total of $8 in parts. MY Xbox 360 was the same way- before they accepted third-party harddrives, it cost $90 to add a 20GB harddrive to the system, even though third-party, similar items cost $20. For $40 on black friday, i was able to put several TB onto my wii u, without any hacks, mods, etc. When i wanted to move the wii u to a friends house and didnt want the dangly cords of the external, i shoved a $11 slimline thumb drive into the butt of the wii u (its about half the size of a kidney bean, and 32GB!) . I should have been more clear, but to me, the wii u NEEDS an external memory, so i just consider them one of the same

Re: New Patent Sparks Talk of Potential NX Details

russellohh

@AshFoxX I'm not sure how much it would really pass on these days. Steel Diver constantly retails for $5, and plenty of DSlite and even 3DS games are under $10. It shouldn't be that hard to make an SD card that has a single game on it, cheaply.

Re: New Patent Sparks Talk of Potential NX Details

russellohh

@Grumblevolcano Ehhh, i paid $265 for the wii u plus external, and i never unplug the external. Paying $500 for an Xbone, then $20 for every DLC, $50 for online play....ehhhh. I loved my original Xbox, 360 and PS3, but it looks like WiiU/PC for me from now on

Re: New Patent Sparks Talk of Potential NX Details

russellohh

@defrb Earthbound is $10 online/digital. A cartridge is $300.
Titanfall was $30 on my birthday as a disk. It was $5 digital the same day.

Mirror's Edge is $48 to buy the disk right now.
I bought it on Humble Bundle online for 25 CENTS.

If it's online, no one can keep the price up.

Re: New Patent Sparks Talk of Potential NX Details

russellohh

@DarkJamD When I tried to buy a music album this year, and the new Dragon Age, both were $20 and $40 to download.

But, for lordi knows what reason, it was $10 to buy the CD- that comes with the digital version. Dragon Age was $19 on disk that week from Amazon- as soon as you type in the serial number in the case, the game begins downloading.

So, i listed the disks and box on eBay $5 each. The CD was unopned, but i made it clear that the disk serial was used- they were literally bidding on a box with a plastic disk inside. Bidding began immediately.

People paid a total of $38 for the box of my now, -$8 purchase. Digital forever! It costs negative eight dollars...

Re: New Patent Sparks Talk of Potential NX Details

russellohh

Oooo I do hope its digital only. $5 for Titanfall on PC digital vs $40 on disk that same day.
25 CENTS for Mirror's Edge digital vs $55 i originally paid for the disk.
$10 for Earthbound vs $255 for the cartridge....
sure, Earthbound was years later, but Titanfall, Skyrim, and every Atlus game ever are $5-10 digital, lordi knows how much for some physical thing i have to carry around.
Bring it on, Nintendo!

Re: New Patent Sparks Talk of Potential NX Details

@Aslanmagic Eeek! Where do you live without fast internet? I always kept my internet download speeds around 100 kbs to 1 MB a second for $28 a month, until i got a deal with Comcast for 15 MBs at $40 a month. Loading the 500 MB Splatoon demo in 45 second was surreal.

Re: Nintendo 2DS Drops To $99 In North America

russellohh

@hYdeks @TheWPCTraveler I like it so much more than the XL. The LR buttons are a more comfortable distance away, it fits in my pocket easier, and the battery life seems much longer, though I haven't really measured that as much. If the NX replaces the 2DS, i'll miss it...

Re: Nintendo Download: 13th August (Europe)

russellohh

@whodatninja Citizens isn't perfect, but it did make me laugh out loud quite a few times, which is rare for a game. It's worth 5-10- in many ways it feels like an Earthbound spin-off, since it has so many Earthbound references it crosses the line from reference or parody, and all the way to "okay, can you please pretend this is Mother 2.5?"

Re: Early NX Reveal Was To "Reinforce Commitment" To Dedicated Hardware, Claims Nintendo's Scott Moffitt

russellohh

@whodatninja Ehhh I've had a Wii U since launch, and play it constantly. I play Earthbound, Harvest Moon, another Harvest Moon, the Castlevania games, Duck Tales, Contra, oh and umm, actually Wii U games, like
Mario 3D World
Mario Kart
NintendoLand
.and umm
ummm
Mass Effect was great on wii u but missing the dlc, so i sold it...call of duty black ops 2 was great but had no dlc so i sold it...
hmmm
Smash Bros!

3 years after i got the console, i still have 4 games for it.

I mean they're great games, but............i feel like the wii u died November 18th, 2012...

Re: Mega Man And Mighty No. 9 Creator Keiji Inafune Admits He Doesn't Make Games That He Can Play

russellohh

Since Mega Man games are so beloved by many, it clearly works out, (I prefer Contra myself) but this reminds me of a Tales From the Trenches true story from what sounds like a StarFox or Rogue Squadron ish game.

Basically, the testers said a game was too hard- unplayably hard. Enemy ships fired dozens of shots at a time, and 1-2 could kill you, yet it took many, many shots to kill the enemy. The enemy ships were much faster than you were, and more maneuverable. You weren't an X-Wing taking down a Star Destroyer- you were an unarmed frigate fighting 200 deathstars at once.

Every single bug the programmers closed as "our testers suck" , "by design, testers are incapable", etc.

The testers asked the programmers if any of them had actually PLAYED the game. They said no, that's not their job- they don't make games they play.

The testers and the managers begged the programmers to actually TRY the game. They laughed and said they knew what they were doing.

Game comes out- not a single play lasts more than 5 minutes. Nearly every copy of the game is returned as defective. Company goes out of business, firing everyone.

I mean, who'd actually turn on and play ten minutes of the game they're making?! You think Peter Jackson has ever watched anyone act?! Or a painter keeps his eyes open!

Re: Nintendo Treehouse Staffer Talks Localisation, Voice Acting And Playing Non-Nintendo Games For Research

@Platypus101 Err.....in many, many years on this site, I've never once felt the need to click on someone's name and read their life history. Yes, it's on there, but who cares? That's allllllll you. I didn't "win", i gained some creepy wanker who's desperate to know my life story, where i work now, my likes and dislikes...
That's not winning. $10 says if i change my profile today you'll be aware of it within 30 seconds...

Re: Nintendo Treehouse Staffer Talks Localisation, Voice Acting And Playing Non-Nintendo Games For Research

russellohh

@Platypus101 Ahh, so instead of actually naming the Nintendo game that Bioshock is an inspiration for (or making any valid claims what so ever), you're reading my profile, checking out my email., and at this point, likely re-reading all of my posts on other articles here. Are you reading my Facebook too? Would you like my old Myspace? Going to shift through my trash can next?

Kids these days. Enjoy your new obsession, stalker boy!

Re: Nintendo Treehouse Staffer Talks Localisation, Voice Acting And Playing Non-Nintendo Games For Research

russellohh

@Platypus101 Yeah, spending ten seconds playing Bioshock and realizing it doesn't have a single theme, control scheme, narrative format, texture, lighting method, or plot device remotely similar to any Nintendo-made game sure makes me an expert on.... knowing what a video game is. Now if you'll excuse me, I'm going to go play the original Doom so I can learn what not to put into a match-3 puzzle game.

Re: Nintendo Treehouse Staffer Talks Localisation, Voice Acting And Playing Non-Nintendo Games For Research

russellohh

@Platypus101 Hmm, you're right. Nintendo DOES have a lot of games very similar to Bioshock. I'm sure the Nintendo staffers who played it for research for sweating bullets hoping none of the themes of religion, faith, cults, or incest ever accidentally make their way into Mario Kart, Mario 3D World, or that one Zelda game where Zelda is actually Link's daughter from an alternate timeline where Link is actually Ganon.
