Re: A Rewind Feature And Two NES Games Are Coming To Nintendo Switch Online This Month

rosemo

Okay, so I do take issue with the "scraping the bottom of the barrel" comment. These games are actually pretty good. Urban Champion is scraping the bottom of the barrel. However, it's clear that the NES well is beginning to run dry. Don't worry folks, we'll have SNES games by year end. They could put Double Dragon 3 and the rest of the Ninja Gaiden series plus Tecmo Super Bowl on there.

Re: Gallery: Here's What The Nintendo Switch Lite Looks Like

rosemo

Why not call it the "Lite Switch"? That's my dad joke for the day. Anyway, my kids are playing with our Switch quite a bit more now so I may get one so I can have a dedicated handheld version for myself. It still play the 3DS and it seems to suit my time constraints well.

Re: Soapbox: I Don't 'Get' Smash Bros. And I Just Don't Know Why

rosemo

I debate with my 15 year old son about this all the time. He loves Smash Bros. and has since Brawl. He also loves Enter the Gungeon and roguelike games likes that. I just turned 41 and I've tried but I just can't get into either of them. I figured it was more of a generational thing but who knows? I'm more into platformers, metroidvanias, adventure and puzzle games (also the occasional RPG). I think being a gamer is like saying you work in IT, it is a very broad description and encompasses a lot of different interests.

Re: Feature: A 20th Anniversary Zelda Adventure - Playing Ocarina Of Time For The First Time

rosemo

I played OoT for the first time when it was 15 years old since I was a PS1/Dreamcast gamer in the late 90s. I also played the 3DS remake. I loved it and now my 10 year old son is playing it as his first Zelda game. It's not my favorite Zelda since I prefer 2D entries like Link to the Past, Link's Awakening and A Link Between Worlds. However, it is called a "classic" for a reason and remains one of the best ever.

Re: You Can Now Get 50% Off All Atooi Games On Nintendo Switch

rosemo

@VR32X I believe I read somewhere that he no longer owns the rights to those 3D games. When he and his partner split Renegade Kid, Jools took the IP rights to all the 2D sprite-based games and the other guy (his name slips my mind, sorry!) took the rights to the 3D games.

Re: Review: SteamWorld Dig (Switch eShop)

rosemo

@KeeperBvK Jeremy Parish interviewed the founder of Image and Form for Retronauts several weeks ago. They talked quite a bit about Steamworld Tower Defense as the "origin story" for the world and its lore. It's only $5 on the eShop right now. I think people forgot about it because it was DSiWare.

Re: Nintendo Switch Tops US Sales In December, 3DS Sales Highest Since 2014

rosemo

And yet... All these reviewers and Nintendo related sites constantly say things like "clearly Nintendo is winding the 3DS down" and reacts with incredulity whenever a new game is announced for it. With sales like that, why not support it? I think most of those folks need to realize that not everyone is an early adopter that stood in line to buy a Switch on day 1.

With that said, I've heard even people at work taking about the Switch, something I never heard with Wii U or even 3DS.

Re: Jools Watsham Highlights Low Chicken Wiggle Sales, Confirms Upcoming Discount

rosemo

The bottom line: Jools isn't very good at reading the market. People have been wanting Treasurenauts for ages, but it's nowhere to be found. People wanted a more fleshed out sequel to Mutant Mudds, so he makes an extra hard version. He mistakenly thought people wanted remasters of his DS games, which were good but were pretty niche to begin with. Can't really expect big sales there. Xeodrifter was good (two of my boys loved it) but short. Then comes Chicken Wiggle, which is really ambitious but is missing the essential ingredients. To pull off the "make and share" approach, you need a highly recognizable property or you need to wrap a great game around it. Mario Maker and Pushmo are two successful examples of this. Everyone wants to make Mario levels. Pushmo had so much great content you were inspired to make and share your own, but if you didn't want to there was still a great game at a great price. Chicken Wiggle has neither of these things.

Re: Nintendo Switch Won't Have Miiverse Or StreetPass

rosemo

From a business standpoint, this totally makes sense. They can just use Facebook to do basically the same thing as Miiverse except for maybe the game integration, which I always turned off anyway. They can just create communities for every game on Facebook and moderate them there. It's clear that with Switch Nintendo is moving in a different direction.

Re: Feature: Five New Year's Resolutions for Nintendo

rosemo

This was a good article. So, I agree with big time with the "Leave 3DS as a budget device". Drop the price to no more than $150 for the New 3DS XL. Ideally, $130, with the New 3DS sitting at $100 and the 2DS at $60. Support through 2018.

Also, I would add to the resolution list "Make My Nintendo Worthwhile". My goodness, especially in America, My Nintendo has been abysmal so far. The latest rewards include 30% off Wrecking Crew? I mean, really? Why not just give that game as a reward for 30 gold coins or something?

Re: Nintendo President Tatsumi Kimishima Feels The 3DS Can "Continue In Its Own Form"

rosemo

I think they will leverage the Switch platform to its fullest extent. The successor to the 3DS will likely be a portable that is based on the Switch platform and plays the same games. No docking. Maybe has a 4.5 inch screen so it fits in your pocket. The cartridge format and the use of Tegra gives them this flexibility. I bet that is coming in 2018 for $200. They could maybe even have some kind of DS/3DS backward compatibility with it. Switch Pocket?

Re: Armikrog

rosemo

@Zach Why? Because he's an artist who also dares to be a Christian and not just keep it to himself while at the same time making quality games when the opportunity arises? Oh no, we can't allow that to happen...I guess I would say that I can appreciate a lot of music, movies and games even if I don't entirely agree with the artist's worldview. I'm just glad we see games like this from time to time because we certainly see more and more of the "young girl tease" games out of Japan. That I find much more uncomfortable than anything Doug T. stands for.

Re: Review: Poncho (Wii U eShop)

rosemo

As a point of feedback, this review was not very well written. It did not explain in any way why the game received a 6. Difficulty and no pro controller support do not seem like big complaints to me. Other than that, it seemed like the reviewer liked the game. I haven't played the game, but this review seemed a little unfair.

Re: Review: Metroid Prime: Blast Ball (3DS)

rosemo

Yeah, I played it for about a half hour and deleted it. Sorry Nintendo (and Next Level), I love you, your games are generally great, but this one is just not that good. Maybe the actual Federation Force game will be good but if I get it I won't be playing Blast Ball.

Re: Level-5 Confirms New Inazuma Eleven Outing And NFC "Eleven Band" Accessory

rosemo

@Windy Yeah, I agree with you. I really like Level 5 games and I usually end up deleting most of the mobile games I put on my phone, even if I buy them. However, they are a business and the money is clearly in the mobile market if you play your cards right. However, you can also easily get lost in the sea of garbage and malware as well. Well, for now anyway they are continuing to support 3DS as well as mobile so that is a good thing.

Re: My Nintendo's Rewards Have Been Updated for May

rosemo

Yeah, I think the discounts part of the program is going to flop big time. My prediction is that they will begin offering VC games or DLC for gold rewards. Platinum will be reserved for the occasional free game and mobile reward.

With that said though, I've been eyeing Pikmin 3 for a long time....
