@C-Olimar In America, the average $50-60 doesn't last very long outside of RPGs. A first-person shooter can be as short as 2-4 hours, while most action-adventure games are 8-12 hours.
Half-Life episodes: Take about 3-5 hours each, so individually they already are practically modern FPS campaign length. Combine all 3 (with the third one missing) and you have a 12 or so hour game. Telltale games: Strong Bad, Sam & Max and most other games had 2-3 hours for each episode. That totaled about 10-12 hours each season. EscapeVektor is also worth mention, 8-10 hours for what would've been $20, then endless replay value.
6 episodes? With that idea, each episode should cost $6.50 or less, lest it cost more then an actual retail game. Also, not too long a wait, and decently sized episodes (not too short nor too lengthy, add some replay value)
That is an absolute steal for EscapeVektor and all of you should get it immediately. Pretty good price for Mercenaries, Revelations is too high compared to retailers.
I'm interested to see how the save data transfer works.
@DarkerEmerald While he is blatantly wrong, and I do agree that the Vita is much better designed with a sexier OS and more power, the point is sales alone mean it's hard to say anything is more suited through the eyes of profit (besides SCEA games of course)
But I say this. If the Vita sold one half of what the 3DS did, Capcom would go there because of the reasons he gave. Without said sales, his wish is completely obscene (to the point where I don't even get why COD was made for the Vita over the 3DS).
@LordessMeep But they should've SUPPORTED it. I've heard about the controls, and dual-analog sounds like there would be only benefits (unlike, say, Kid Icarus: Uprising or Kingdom Hearts where some losses can be found).
They didn't have to rely on it, but I fail to see how using the face buttons could possibly be better (unless, as you said, you have a grip problem with it which I don't)
@rjejr That quote, is it meant to be sleazy or beyond sleazy?
Anyways, the whole waiting thing doesn't really work if you're the ones making the games. I could just wait a week to see a movie, but the opening weekend matters a lot. Not to mention price drops minimizing profit.
Great (likely paraphrased) news from Renegade Kid for those who dislike the graphics.
"They know the game looks like a DS game right now, but they wanted some footage to go with the announcement to set the feel. (The demo is called an "atmosphere" demo and there's basically no gameplay other than walking around the area.) They cited RE Revelations as a fantastic looking game they're striving towards, but also said they likely won't be able to get to that level because of their size."
@I-U Please don't get full of it now. Everybody got over the whole piracy/Nintendo thing long, LONG ago. Those screenshots look bad, though screenshots are hard to tell because of the potential "super 8" style or what looks like a dust storm.
That's the best looking eShop game? Please fix your contacts or lay off the fanboyism. Go look at Nano Assault EX, one of the sexiest 3DS games out there. The other Shin'en games are practically on par (Art of Balance, soon to be Jett Rocket) with that. Then we got games like Dillon's Rolling Western and Pushmo/Crashmo which use rather barren playfields but slick textures, or perhaps games like Sakura Samurai or Order Up which have heavily stylized art (and I though SS was pretty ugly).
To say that THIS is the best looking eShop game goes beyond opinion, because down to the textures and resolution that is a completely asinine statement. This looks like the DS engine in a slightly higher resolution (which is a shame because said DS titles pushed the DS, yet these don't seem to come close).
I have My Boy emulator on my phone (without any piracy). Android benefits hooray.
I don't think this is a problem. Half due to the old argument of OOP, lack of profit crap. The other half is without buttons, there's not too much appeal. Metroid Zero Mission is quite difficult to play on a touchscreen.
Why is Starship Defense always the one chosen for release? The other Q-Games titles need exposure too (Trajectile, X-Scape). As a trilogy of stylized games, they're the best damn games the DSiWare shop has to offer (Cave Story is outclassed by the 3DS update, and loses points for being released too many damn times)
If the NeXtBOX actually lacks both used game and backwards compatibility. I will take the 3 steps of laughing my butt off. First, laugh at the stupidity of this decision. Then, laugh at the failure of Microsoft in terms of consoles (they'll never go bankrupt anyways). Lastly, laugh at Pachter's stupid predictions again.
I feel bad for those who invest in what he says, since he said the Vita would stab the 3DS in the throat.
@SteveW I don't think you realize how amazing that would be. Clunky jumps, awkward wand, flimsy ninja stars and a final smash involving f***ing up the camera for 1 minute or so.
I'm glad they're discounting the price, but $20 is still too high. Not because of game content, but because of the fact that I've seen it as low as $4.99 (Why did I skip it then!?). $15 would be more reasonable.
And please don't talk about devaluation. This price is already devaluing GameStop's crappy prices.
John Kricfalusi is a pompous piece of crap who abuses limited animation while criticizing those who do the same, and who only made 18 half-hours of entertaining content in his life.
That doesn't affect my desire to get this game though.
"Shovelware is content taken from any source and put on the Web as fast as possible with little regard for appearance and usability."
"i usually define shovelware as a game thats been quickly ported over from one platform to another....with little or no regard for the other systems strengths or weeknesses. in other words, a quick and dirty port."
Yes, time is a major factor of shovelware. If you call DNF shovelware you are highly misinformed. If you call it a bad game that's quite different.
B. Yes, games that are quickly made are shovelware. Shovelware isn't always bad, I've even played shovelware I've enjoyed.
Time is a difficult factor, because if they worked on it for years yet made one small change a month it could still be shovelware. I do not know how much care was put into Ocarina of Time 3D.
And now that I got that out, the simplified, less ragey post.
Either you misread my post, or you're just looking for reasons for superiority.
I never gave my definition of Shovelware, so I'll do it for you. Shovelware is when a game is made with little effort put in. So a game like Duke Nukem Forever, considered one of the worst First-Person Shooters made this decade, is not shovelware because it took years to make.
Each new COD game is made very quickly as far as I can tell. You can argue otherwise, but the speed of release doesn't help. Games like New Super Mario Bros are arguably shovelware as well, if you still want to think I'm a fanboy.
A bad game like Ninjabread Man and Anubis II constitutes shovelware not just because of quality, but because of how lazily it was made. A shovelware game can still be "good" if you like it. A lot of side-project iOS games could work here.

Re: Developer Interview: Renegade Kid Tells Us More About Cult County
@IAmNotWill I hope they focus a lot of time on improving the graphics with the year wait and all.
Re: Developer Interview: Renegade Kid Tells Us More About Cult County
@C-Olimar Name some episodic games?

Re: Nnooo Announces escapeVektor Sale
I got this for $10, and have absolutely NO regret with the satisfaction that I gave Nnooo more cash and I beat the campaign first.
Thus, GOGOGO. Also does this apply to Vita?
Re: Developer Interview: Renegade Kid Tells Us More About Cult County

Re: Gunman Clive eShop Sales Surpass Combined Totals on iOS and Android
@Chrono_Cross There was absolutely NO reason whatsoever for you to act all superior in your tone. Lighten up a little.
https://www.nintendolife.com/news/2013/02/developer_interview_renegade_kid_and_a_history_of_nintendo_development?page=1 - It did not indicate any sort of combination beating out the other platforms, but it still beat them one-by-one AT LEAST.
Re: Gunman Clive eShop Sales Surpass Combined Totals on iOS and Android
@Chrono_Cross Mutant Mudds developers said something mildly similar, alongside others that I can't remember.
Re: Review: Forgotten Legions (DSiWare)
Hey, I hope this isn't asking for much, but could you upload a photo of your score with the code and name and such?
And again, didn't expect much. It seems a lot of games by Cypronia suffer from the same problem, not necessarily broken but painlessly dull.
Re: Nintendo Download: 28th March 2013 (Europe)
@Henmii Do it, do it now.
This is the same price as chapter one yet has around 4 times the content. Get it damnit.
Also Heroes of Ruin sounds like it's priced decently compared to original MSRP, but is it even worth it then?
Re: Review: Jewel Master Atlantis 3D (3DS eShop)
This is the kind of game I'd much rather play on my phone then a two screen device.

Re: Renegade Kid Confirms Upcoming FPS Will Support Circle Pad Pro
@shinobi88 That thing about big companies is false. They aren't investing because they don't see profit.
How were DS and even GBA FPS games made without any sticks after all?
Re: Renegade Kid Confirms Upcoming FPS Will Support Circle Pad Pro
I'm not complaining, but this was announced along with the game.
I'm probably gonna use the CPP since there's no multiplayer.

@DePapier If it's available in the demo too
-Pause the game
