Capcom has confirmed that Resident Evil: The Mercenaries 3D will be hitting the North American 3DS eShop on March 7th, and will cost just $20 to download.
Originally released as a retail title in 2011, the game has already been made available for download in Japan.
As you'll know if you read our Resident Evil: The Mercenaries 3D review, we said that it "entertains with its brand of fast-flowing action, constant stream of unlockables and captivating co-op gameplay", but warned that "unless you’re keen on repeatedly playing levels to boost your overall rating, you may tire of the game quite swiftly".
Will you be splashing some cash on this one? Drop a comment to tell us.

Not a bad price. The game sounds fun, and I may have to pick this up.
Great! I never buy the game before so this is a instant buy for me! :3
Believe it or not but I put 90+ hours into the game. I thought it copped unfair criticism from many when it was never going to be a main story mode Resi title. It is what it is and if you like achievements then there is lots to do.
See? You can have discounted retail games on the eShop!
... so will they now release the DLC that was supposed to come for the game? Because that would be cool
If it's released for around £15 in the UK I'll download this.
For this price, it's an addictive arcade shooter that's great for short play sessions, making for a perfect Download title. I actually enjoyed the Online Co-op more than Revelation's Raid mode, maybe because of the enemies or the fact Claire's in it, I dunno.
I heard the Japanese eshop release allowed you to reset your Game data, unlike its retail release, so hopefully that same feature is retained here.
For any of you that don't already have, this would be a well spent $20! That is so awesome Capcom did this! I think it is the best online multiplpayer 3DS game next to Mario Kart 7.
That's a very good price for that game. I got it at that price, and it was well worth it for me.
@luminalace You know what's really annoying? When a reivewer would harp on this game for its "lack of content" (which I don't get. I've put over 30 hours into it) and then that same reviewer would praise Steel Diver despite having waaaaaay less content (I'm looking at you, Audrey Drake).
Fair price and format (the digital one) for this kind of game! Kudos for Capcom!
See, if more games had price cuts for their eShop versions like this, we might be more inclined to buy them digitally.
@DePapier It better be discounted its nearly 2 years old now! Not a bad price but I would prefer 10$ looks like old games can still have new life and now make company's money after all.
I really want this now!! Can we delete our save data now?
I'd consider download, if it allowed the me to reset game data.
Man! Alot of good games and deals this month.
Hm, A while back I was thinking about getting the game but never got it, since I got around $30 on the eshop and saving my real money, I might have t consider getting this, but I need a new sd card, well I guess I will have to see.
@Five-seveN: Thanks.
@undead terror: I've got a 4 gig card that's getting ful too. So I've been looking for good prices/sales on sd cards too.) Just hope it's not too hard to transfer the games that I already have on THIS card.
Holy shoot! Nice Ubisoft, you rock!
Well you could technically delete save data with a download by deleting the extra data and the game from the SD card and then redownloading it right?
And now I'll get this. Discounts work!
Europe please
Getting a new sd card today and will get this tomorrow, looked on ebay for this but with shipping it is over $30 so this will do.
True to crappy form EU are getting NONE of these price cuts or appropriately priced eShop games. Is that true by the way?
I realize that this might be different for everyone, but $20 US is definitely a sweet spot for me to really consider downloading 3rd party content that isn't AAA. I will probably DL this, since it looked good to me, but not $40 good.
I wish more 'so-so' retail games would move to this point. I'm not gonna drop $30-$40 on a download of Ghost Recon, which got a lukewarm reception... but $20 and I bet it will move. Same goes for stuff like Rayman 3D, Mario Tennis (lol at that happening), adventure time, Pilotwings, Pro Evo Soccer, Splinter Cell... the list goes on. I can grab most of these used for sub $20, so if the eshop would just match the market price for these games, that money could go to the devs.
Again, I think new games and AAA games can maintain their nutty eshop prices, but if older retail games follow mercenary's lead, I'll need a bigger memory card.
Good price. I had the card, but I sold it as part of a bundle with my regular 3DS when I got my XL.
It's worth getting a 32GB card. They usually cost around $30 all the time, assuming there's a sale, which there always seems to be.
Just don't do what I did and buy a 64GB card and find out it doesn't work. 32GB is the max, and a fast loading one is best.
Found it at a retailer long ago for only 15€ ^_^;
Anyway I must admit it was worth all the moneys, I really liked it a lot.
It's a simple and very fun Zombie shooting game!
Maybe the full price was too high, but for 20$ or less it's a must have ^O^
would definitely be nice to have this on the go along with street fighter without the need to change carts. I would never have said this a few years ago but digital games are slowly becoming my preferred preference.
I guess i must just be moving with the times
Oh, you mean it's going to be the price it should have been ALL THIS TIME? XD
Mercenaries makes me mad, though. I love RE and I would love to just have one big challenge mode to play with, but I can't stand timed challenges. Give me a number of baddies to kill or a length of time to survive or a stage to get through, but I just can't have fun with a ticking clock. I can only hope that Raid Mode shows up again in the future.
I like the mercenaries better than raid mode. Though as @DerpSandwich said, I wish they would come up with an option to disable the time limit. $20 is a good deal for this game though. Hopefully more people buy it.
how many blocks does this take up?
Tell me, why is it preferable to download this for $20 (PLUS TAX!) and use up space on my SD card when the 3DS cart version is available new from Amazon for $17.95?
I would pay $5.
I might get this for some co-op good price
$10, and I'm there for a download. I'm sure I'll wait for th retail version. I like physical copies when the option is there (outside of Steam).
@Rod64
I think anyone would pay $5.
Regardless this is a good deal. I bought it for $30 used when I got my 3DS a year and a half ago. You might be able to buy the cart new for $3 cheaper, but it being a physical form of the gane can be lost, damaged, or age. Digital is convenient, unbreakable, unable to get lost, and sometimes the only way. You have to go online to oreder things off of Amazon, and I would consider that another way to look at things. Shipping that takes days instead of a couple hours or even less in some cases.
Not saying you HAVE to order online, but I just find it interesting that nothing is ever good enough for alot of people, even when it is an improvement over how it was before.
I already bought the game when it first came out, and although I haven't played it in a VERY long time, I don't have any regrets of the full price purchase! It's a great game, and I love the 3D effect in it too!
I got this new for $20 last summer and for that price it's great. I've spent a lot of time getting all the medals, unlocking costumes and topping high scores. If you like arcade shooters and/or the Mercs mode in the previous RE games, then this is definitely for you.
I'm glad they're discounting the price, but $20 is still too high. Not because of game content, but because of the fact that I've seen it as low as $4.99 (Why did I skip it then!?). $15 would be more reasonable.
And please don't talk about devaluation. This price is already devaluing GameStop's crappy prices.
@rayword45 Hell, wish I could find that for $5
everyone, BUY THIS!
People in the UK go to Currys/PC World as they're currently selling it for £2.97
@Banker-Style Thanks for the tip, I'm really hoping it's in stock tomorrow!
I didn't know this was getting a digital release, so when I saw it in the eShop yesterday (and at the right price) I purchased on impulse.
@longtimegamer - I think the download was a little over 4k blocks.
Just recently bought it and I got to say it is very fun. This will last me a while.
