@Retro_on_theGo That was worded poorly. Let me try to explain this.
Look at Super Mario 3D Land. That game needs no online (unless you think DLC is a good idea) so no problems. Many games fall under this like Paper Mario: Sticker Star, Dillon's Rolling Western, Kingdom Hearts 3D, etc;
But then look at games like Bomb Monkey, Ridge Racer and Star Fox 64 3D. No online leaderboards, no VS. multiplayer, nothing. Those games would've been a lot better with online included.
1. No more 6000 sales bullcrap (Fixed long ago, DSiWare)
2. Stop dictating prices like a madman (Dunno when fixed)
3. Remove size limitations (3DS eShop)
4. Remove office space restrictions
5. Demos
How to increase the success
A. Cheaper devkits (Should still be more expensive then iOS though. Quality control)
B. More sales and some actual price cuts
C. Offer incentives for going online more like new tracks for MK7.
D. Make online multiplayer or some sort of connection a must for almost every game (EDIT: Presuming it fits)
Also, other then a few bosses, I'd compare this moreso to Contra then Mega Man. The way the character controls reminds me a lot more of Bionic Commando (with jumping) then Mega Man.
@WaveBoy Bizarre that you compare this for not being unique to freakin Mutant Mudds. NOTHING NEW THERE. Even Shantae borrows heavily from other Metroidvania games. It's like you choose the most generic games possible to make uniquity arguments (Mutant Mudds/Mario 3D Land)
So what's unique? Well, there's the duck mode and lady characters. That's about it.
But this is $2. You want revolution? Too bad. Mega Man 9 cost $18 for the whole package after all.
@SkywardLink98 What kind of bizarro expectations do you have set? 2D Platformers, First-Person Shooters, many puzzlers, etc; Pretty much every genre besides RPGs WILL NOT clock in like that. This is 3 times longer then most 2D Platformers (even if it's not really a platformer)
And yeah, I actually expected this to be shorter, like around half the time.
I'm just wondering, does anyone know why this took so long to review? My first assumption was nobody wanted to blow $30 on this, but then I saw the review copy.
This wasn't a limit during WiiWare/DSiWare IIRC. I know 2D Boy had no set office (made the game in coffee shops) and DSiWare had lots of one man teams (although Hugo somehow got a 3DS kit)
@Hardy83 I'd compare the Play Store to Steam. If enough decent people like it, you'll be fine, even with stupidly easy piracy.
@SteveW How is this not professional? It's stylized in the most obvious way possible, and the textures look better then any homebrew game (which is what I assume to be amateur).
For comparison, Sakura Samurai was also stylized, but that game looks like a 1999 reject.
I would love some mini-game collections like on NSMB and Mario 64 DS (better then the actual game, sadly).
@Austroid Seriously though, why the hell do we always play as generic Toads? It's downright f**kin stupid. How about some Wario or Waluigi? (who needs some sort of game inclusion in main games). Many people wanted Peach even.
@Bankai Dedicated Disney fans? I think you're selling yourself short when it comes to target audience.
There are quite a few dedicated Disney collectors, but obviously not all are gamers, so for a company as large as Disney that is a NICHE market.
Who is this really targeting? The Skylanders crowd with a bit of change to the concept. How many kids do you think actually cared about the Skylanders action figures? All the ones I know just played the game.
@Bankai I had no intention of buying the game either way. Nor did I intend to buy any of the "On-disc DLC" games.
I'm responding to the tagline. If people complain about Capcom's DLC, one would expect them to start some sort of riot over this pricing. This is like the worst freemium crap on iOS (thinking games where you have to pay $1 a level) times 12.
To answer the question, no they aren't pulling a Capcom. This is FAR WORSE then anything Capcom has ever done.
I have to pay an extra $8 for all Mega Man 9 content? Pretty bad, but I can live without most of those extras. I have to pay $20 for 12 characters on disc? While it's a sneaky, dirty tactic, I don't need 12 characters.
This hunk of crap? I pay 75 dollars for 3 LEVELS. Whole game? $200+
That is utterly ridiculous. Don't compare this to pure collectibles completely, because honestly, those don't lock away content from a game like this. I'm pretty sure a bunch of kids who played Skylanders could care less about some action figures.
Revelations would be uncanny as a download, that's bigger then the majority of Wii Games. Hell, I'm pretty sure that's why Kid Icarus isn't a download and that's half the file size.
Definite instabuy. I loved the first title, and looking at what they did with Art of Balance: Touch and the size limit, I think this will be a bit longer then the original (just prediction)
Well, that's just your take. Personally, I agree with that, but I'm not going to judge others because of it. And their interpretation could make a huge difference.
I have so much contempt for Rovio that I didn't even give Bad Piggies a try. I couldn't give less of a damn about RK's anti-piracy comments.
@pashaveliki I wouldn't compare it to iOS platformers. Those actually suffer from a lack of input, while this is just different to what people are used to.
I'd compare this to somewhere between a mouse and WiiMote/PS Move Wand for the controls. It's different and takes some getting used to, but when you do, it's still as functional as the others. Heat-sensor controlled platformers are hindered by a lack of accurate input.
@brandonbwii Jeez, don't complain. You're no better then the people whining about RK's games and piracy comments.
Frankly, I disagreed with them, and I wasn't a big fan of any of their 3DSWare games either way. Hopefully that'll change with the upcoming FPS, as I loved Moon and Dementium.
That's disappointing, but whatever. If the single-player campaign is good and lengthy enough for the price (and come on, the expectations are low for a first-person shooter) then I'm in.
@Miss_Dark Well, I hate Just Dance as well, but the story is the least of my expectations.
A dancing game with a story would be DDRX on the PS2, and that story was so laughable it may as well have not existed. Same with the Guitar Hero games, paper-thin.
@pashaveliki Passable? I beg to differ. Once you get used to it, with the 3DS I find it around equal to dual-analog. Loads of DS shooters used it, and those lack the analog stick.
Also, Revelations had no problem with implementing the CPP, and you're basically sacrificing speed there with the second stick.
"If Nintendo themselves want to blame piracy, then they should drop their prices for non-transferable digitally downloaded games from the ridiculous $39.99USD to < $10.00 and they'll see a difference"
With all due respect, do you have no sense of value of money? No company would EVER drop games that sell well from $40 to less then $10. That would be a complete bad move due to both profit loss and actual devaluation.
I love music games as a whole, DDR/ITG, Rock Band, Beatmania, always preferred freeware ones though.
And seriously, Just Dance is the bottom of the freaking barrel. It has nothing to do with the "lameness" or anything (have no shame in playing something as flamboyant as Pop'n Music per say), it just flat out sucks.
Seriously, 99Bullets 3D. I don't care about anything other then the gameplay concept, because that gameplay concept was freaking awesome and needs to be fleshed out IMMEDIATELY.
@Bazly About the whole "Not in my region" thing, I see it two ways.
No release in your region and it's region-free? Too bad, pay up sucker. No release in your region and it's region-locked? Pay up because the only way you can pirate it is if you have a hacked system, which also has legal region-lock removal.
Don't want us to hack the system? Murder the region lock, screw DRM (already done) and enable cheap, easy development kits for those who like to make homebrew.
I assure you the only ones who will try to hack the system are pirates unless you really screw up homebrew capabilities.

My view
Improvements
1. No more 6000 sales bullcrap (Fixed long ago, DSiWare)
2. Stop dictating prices like a madman (Dunno when fixed)
3. Remove size limitations (3DS eShop)
4. Remove office space restrictions

How to increase the success
A. Cheaper devkits (Should still be more expensive then iOS though. Quality control)
B. More sales and some actual price cuts
C. Offer incentives for going online more like new tracks for MK7.

Re: Gunman Clive Developer: 3DS eShop Is "Healthier" Than iOS
@SteveW You can probably cut that by at least 4, since WiiWare was around $2000 and this is supposed to be more indie-friendly
Re: Review: Riding Stables 3D (3DS)
@Philip_J_Reed I'm asking a question. Is it so wrong to ponder over something as noticable as that?
I mean, it COULD give details over the way the game works (like Pikmin and the 30-day limit)
Re: Review: Riding Stables 3D (3DS)
@TheDreamingHawk To add on, it's the longest I've seen in nearly 4 years not counting Retro reviews.
Re: Neko Entertainment Discusses The Possibility Of Further Wii U Support
Cocoto is coming on the 3DS eShop already shudder
If they make another 3DS game, make it a rhythm game as I actually enjoyed Maestro! Jump in Music.

Re: Gunman Clive Developer: 3DS eShop Is "Healthier" Than iOS
I wouldn't call this shocking. More shocking is that Pop was a bigger success on WiiWare and even DSiWare over iOS.
But yeah. Good news to the market. Maybe increase that market with some goddamn sales.
Re: Review: Riding Stables 3D (3DS)
That only took a month.
Ah whatever, at least it was done.

Re: Nintendo of America Outlines Upcoming Q1 eShop Releases
Capcom priced Mercenaries at less then half of the original in Japan. Hopefully it stays the same in the US.
Re: Shin'en Confirms Jett Rocket II - The Wrath of Taikai
@WaveBoy You CANNOT complain this is generic and say Super Mario 3D Land isn't. That game had no innovation whatsoever.
Re: Capcom Bringing Retail 3DS Games to the eShop
Mercenaries is smaller, I'd download that for a reasonable price (like Bit.Trip SAGA esque)
Re: Capcom Bringing Retail 3DS Games to the eShop
Revelations would be uncanny as a download, that's bigger then the majority of Wii Games. Hell, I'm pretty sure that's why Kid Icarus isn't a download and that's half the file size.
Re: Nintendo Unifying Handheld and Console Divisions in Business Restructure
Hopefully this isn't the death of Nintendo consoles. Sony looks bad right now, so the only option would be Microsoft.
Re: Jett Rocket II - The Wrath of Taikai
Can't wait. This needs to come faster along with Nano Assault EX.
Re: Fire Emblem: Awakening Download Takes Up Almost 8,600 Blocks
That's not really that big. That a bit more then 1 GB. That's half of Kid Icarus: Uprising and ONE-FOURTH of Resident Evil: Revelations

I'd prefer Moon 3D, but the sole fact that we're getting an FPS is good news to me.
Here's to hoping for Circle Pad Pro support and online multiplayer
Re: Up Close With Nintendo DS Lite
And now it's been discontinued. Farewell old frie- Wait, I never owned one.
GBA still wins as best handheld IMO.
Re: Review: Just Dance 4 (Wii U)
@Miss_Dark Music games typically don't care about story, so that's a weak argument, especially considering how thin most Mario games are.

Re: Feature: The Biggest 3DS Games of 2013

Luigi's Mansion is also an insta-buy, and I'm in for Layton vs Ace Attorney and Shantae.
Re: Picked Up A Pre-Owned Wii U Console? You Could Have Access To Free Downloads
@SCAR392 A. What if someone is clumsy? What if there's a robbery?
We should have freaking options.
B. Again, many people would prefer the OPTION of just buying a new console, especially if there's an upgrade.
If smartphones do it, PSN does it, everyone freaking does it except for the dumb pieces of crap making the decisions for Nintendo Network.
