Re: Game of the Year: Nintendo Life's Community Awards 2012

rayword45

Glad to see Kid Icarus won, Fallblox is overrated as crap and Ace Mathician deserves higher. Don't agree or disagree with anything else besides La Mulana (which I didn't even enjoy much but is still the best WiiWare title out of all 6 this year), didn't play Xenoblade, haven't touched DS mode thus far, and don't got a Wii U (even though I voted Little Inferno).

Re: Game of the Year: Nintendo Life's Staff Awards 2012

rayword45

Well, if I must debate something else, I'd relist the entire eShop selection as I said, but I can see why Fallblox got there.

However, I don't see why you would award a lazy port, and Colors 3D is really niche. Art of Balance: Touch, Denpa Men and EscapeVektor, maybe toss in Dillon's Rolling Western.

Also, the only people I insulted were the people who complained about Bit.Trip BEAT the WRONG way. And I don't see a problem. 2 years later now, and seriously, that's freaking stupid.

Re: Best of 2012: Staff Awards

rayword45

"A company that specialises not only in creating its own games" except Nicalis hasn't created one freaking game. Glad Wayforward won, but Shin'en should've been second with their beautiful works like Art of Balance: Touch and Nano Assault.

And Kid Icarus multiplayer deserves no more then third, as it lacks many things that even Heroes of Ruin did better. No map voting, just completely random with random matches is the worst. And they could've done so much more, a less paltry selection of maps and voice chat come to mind first. It's still the GOTY for 3DS in my opinion, but that area was untouched in so many ways it proves how strong the gameplay is (if it were worse, we'd all dismiss it as a shallow timewaster like Star Fox Assault's multiplayer was treated as)

Re: Game of the Year: Nintendo Life's Staff Awards 2012

rayword45

@I-U How far are you? Did you give up after 3 chapters? I've heard varying times of how long it took to get used to the controls (from none time (DS FPS veterans) to hours). Just wondering.

And the slip slide you speak of is actually very manageable. But if you so desire, you don't have to do it that fast.

Re: Game of the Year: Nintendo Life's Staff Awards 2012

rayword45

@theblackdragon Yeah, only a couple of paragraphs were a response to you. I got a bit tangential lol. The left handed bit was in response to the article. It states COP would be optimal, but that's not the case at all. Lefties can aim with the circle pad if they move with the ABXY buttons so that would be the only decent proof.

I got used to flicking pretty fast, but I can see where you're coming from. The game is really fast paced though, to the point where Wiimote turning would be too slow. I can't see that being fixed.

As for the DRW, people actually referred to the weight gt bit, and I never played with 3D on so I guess my hands were free. I did play with Kid Icarus though, and I didn't see too much a problem.

And I'm sticking by my claim. There is something wrong with you if you actually played Bit.Trip Beat and though D-Pad would still work.

Re: Game of the Year: Nintendo Life's Staff Awards 2012

rayword45

@theblackdragon I don't get pissy that you don't like it, I get pissy that people act that they are that different as to making one "better then dual-analog" and one "completely broken".

Looking around in MPH and Moon was identical to Kid Icarus. I don't recall any more simplicity. The geometry (I just looked) is different but I don't understand how big of a deal that is because I have fairly large hands and I don't experience cramping. By more options, you mean analog movement? Can't see that making a difference since the radius is about the same as the d-pad.

It's more of the fact that people get pissy over something so seemingly hypocritical. I mean, there are people who said "I hated the game. Wasn't about controls, they were fine. I just found it bland and repetitive". That makes far more sense then "ZOMG MPH I LOVE LOVE YOOoooOOO- oh Kid Icarus eff dat lol broken controls" (Yes that's grossly exaggerated)

It just seems illegitimate, and then there are critics that seem to be finding reasons to complain while not applying it to other games. Another complaint about complaints was Dillon's Rolling Western. If the genre-mixing didn't mesh with you, that's fine. But "the 3DS is held on your left hand like an awkward weight" are you an infant? The thing weighs 8 ounces. How the hell can you pour a glass of milk?

I don't care if you think that CPP would somehow work, I just acknowledge how they wouldn't. I could show you a long, overextended essay about it someone else wrote, but it's a tedious read. I do believe that they should've included support just to prove how it wouldn't work nearly as well, as I can only give evidence of left-handed players who tried to aim with the circle pad, or my assumptions.

I am irked by the people who say Bit.Trip BEAT needed D-Pad controls because I legitimately do not agree.

Re: Game of the Year: Nintendo Life's Staff Awards 2012

rayword45

But what really irks me is that everyone was dry humping Metroid Prime Hunters and Moon about controls. "This is better then Dual-Analog even though I can't walk or strafe at varying speeds!"

Now Kid Icarus does it an "ZOMG Nintendo this sucks balls you trying to give us carpal tunnel!?"

Re: Game of the Year: Nintendo Life's Staff Awards 2012

rayword45

Kid Icarus should've included Dual-analog just to show how terrible it was.

Seriously, I had a left-handed friend try aiming with the stick and moving with the buttons. He couldn't kill crap in the air battle so he didn't even try land battle. That's how unoptimized it was.

It's like a slightly more understandable case of what happened to Bit.Trip BEAT. "No you stupid f*** D-Pad wouldn't work. Did you play the game while looking at the damn screen!?"

Well, actually, much more understandable.

So 3DS should be (IMO)

1. Kid Icarus: Uprising
2. Resident Evil: Revelations
3. Meh... I haven't played PM:SS but NSMB2 was really uninspired so it wins by defaul- No wait I completely forgot about Dream Drop Distance!

Also, Pushmo is still overrated as hell and VVVVVV is still a port that costs more then PC while having less features.

1. Art of Balance: Touch
2. EscapeVektor
3. Denpa Men (would be DRW but that was mixed enough for me to see why it got less)

Re: Feature: 10 Essential Games For Your New 3DS

rayword45

And again, on the topic of placement, the only games that don't belong IMO are Theatrhythm and Colors 3D, because both are somewhat niche. Colors 3D is obvious, but I assume T:FF is much more fun for FF fans, because otherwise it's incredibly bland as a pure rhythm game (whereas Revelations was my first RE game and I loved it).

Re: Feature: 10 Essential Games For Your New 3DS

rayword45

Hmm... Do you have a 3DS XL or something? I mean, unless there's a subtle difference in placement of the circle pad on the 3DS vs. D-Pad for DS or the thing weighs a surprising amount more, I don't think there's much of a difference in controls.

I compared it recently to Metroid Prime Hunters, and they play pretty much the same for me, minus the fact that Metroid is more like a PC FPS while KI controls more like a console since you have no analog movement in Metroid.

Re: Feature: 10 Essential Games For Your New 3DS

rayword45

Well, Moon controlled pretty much the same as Kid Icarus IIRC, only you're given analog movement in Kid Icarus. There needs to be a sequel to Moon IMO.

And the tone was meant to be light-hearted. There were ocassionally brief moments of serious/sad dialogue such as Gaol and Magnus's backstory, but I can't see the game working out full time serious-mode at all. The colorful backgrounds and light-hearted themes wouldn't work out for the majority of the time (compared to the dark and gritty areas in Metroid games) plus Metroid: Other M proved Nintendo makes serious dialogue painfully awkward despite the more silent games like Zelda working out just fine (exception is Super Mario Galaxy).

Re: Feature: 10 Essential Games For Your New 3DS

rayword45

@theblackdragon Did you play (and dislike) Moon, Dementium or MPH?

Then I'll understand those complaints. Stupid hypocrites like GameSpot saying how great MPH is then saying Kid Icarus is broken.

As for the dialogue... "Did you take it seriously?" is all I can guess, but that's more opinionated. I personally loved the dialogue and appreciated the awkward humor, far more then KH:DDD's terrible voice acting and Revelations ATROCIOUS story.

Re: Nintendo Download: 20th December 2012 (North America)

rayword45

Why in hell do you consider that a legit reason? Name 5 other companies that do that with EVERY RECENT TITLE, even the ones that cost half as much elsewhere like Pilotwings and Star Fox. Name them. I can't.

There is no reason for them to charge $40 for Pilotwings for a digital download with no box, when I can get a box and manual for $35 less.

Re: Feature: 10 Essential Games For Your New 3DS

rayword45

If you ask the average person about drawing, they'll likely say "I suck at drawing".

Thus, I don't think Colors 3D is a safe recommendation. Contrast to that, I didn't get the hype with Pullblox which led me away from Toolbox, and I thought MK7 was generic as hell (not saying I didn't enjoy it), but I can understand those choices being here because they have much more mass appeal.

Re: Feature: 10 Essential Games For Your New 3DS

rayword45

@Peach64 Out of curiousity, did you look at Kid Icarus; Uprising, Zero Escape: Virtue's Last Reward, Kingdom Hearts: Dream Drop Distance or Resident Evil: Revelations.

All are hailed by fans as great titles for the hardcore crowd, and I can speak for all but ZE: VLR. I'd argue those are AAA titles far more then Ocarina of Time (old, old game with one new mode and one less gratingly bad area) and Mario Kart 7 (often hailed as a rush job, with rubberbanding and a lack of features from previous games)

Re: Feature: 10 Essential Games For Your New 3DS

rayword45

Replace VVVVVV (overpriced port), Colors 3D (Very niche, most people I know suck at art), and Theatrhythm (Unless you (unlike me) play a lot of Final Fantasy, this is a very average rhythm game) with Crush3D (okay, not exactly a starter, but great title), Super Mario 3D Land and Miracle Mask. Hell, IMO NSMB2 should not be here due to laziness but it's got mass appeal.

Glad to see Kid Icarus and Revelations here.

Re: Review: Cake Ninja XMAS (DSiWare)

rayword45

Meh, I wouldn't give it a 2. A 4 is a bit more accurate.

Sure it's mind-numbingly repetitive, but it's not broken, and some may find it addictive. I had no problem with aiming after a short time. The visuals are crappy and the music repetitive as all hell, but I've seen and heard worse.

What's killing me is that giant boss at the end of level 35.

Re: escapeVektor

rayword45

First one to buy and announce it seems.

I say get this game. It's really fun with great music and loads of content (the levels are short, but there is a medal system). Totally worth $10

Re: Nintendo Confirms It Is Possible To Transfer Network IDs To Another Wii U

rayword45

@HarmoKnight How about "I don't want to do that crap." Or better, "Hmm... It broke. Might as well upgrade now."

There is no protecting Nintendo. If every company does this for even non-gaming focused devices, then Nintendo should too.

The fact that people can protect hunks of crap like this, the 40MB limit and the 6000 sales before pay makes me lose faith in humanity.

Re: Nintendo Confirms It Is Possible To Transfer Network IDs To Another Wii U

rayword45

@HarmoKnight Without trying to sound rude, please don't be thick/a blatant fanboy. If you're going to give your ID and password to your friends, you are a complete fool. There is no safety. Plus, they could deauthorize consoles easily.

If Sony and smartphones do this without any problems, then Nintendo should as well, especially when it comes to handhelds since those can be lost.
