Re: Best Harvest Moon / Story Of Seasons Games Of All Time

pennylessz

@Lizuka I believe the high rating stems from its large amount of content. There are three credit screens. Finishing the main story, getting married, and completing a gigantic task list. I suppose it's meant to match the three towns there are. One town is Polynesian, interestingly enough. I liked it a fair bit, and my favorites are FoMT and Magical Melody.
I did not complete it however. I had like 6 barns by the time I got the second credits screen, and it took me about 10 minutes to do my farm chores every in game day. That adds up a lot.

Re: Miyamoto Thinks Mario Movie's Critical Reception Contributed To The "Buzz"

@Eggolor Eh, some parts of it slipped from me because someone was talking quite loudly right next to me, and I spent most of that scene wondering why the kongs are even using go-karts for transportation. It didn't seem explained all that well. In the games they use mine carts when they're not just walking. I thought the implementation was weird. My other points still stand though. The narrative itself really wasn't very strong. Perhaps with the better pacing you suggest, they could've patched up the issues I have (Though I have not listed all of them.) and satisfied you as well. We will never know though, and the movie was successful enough to have a number of people overlook any faults with it.

Re: Miyamoto Thinks Mario Movie's Critical Reception Contributed To The "Buzz"

@PinderSchloss Really, the Mario movie had an awful plot. Just abysmal. I get that the general public mostly cares it's Mario and has a ton of references, but Mario's Dad got what, one line at the end of the movie to close the entire family issues story arc? Mario got outclassed by the rest of the cast the entire film as well. Plus I'm still not sure why the Kongs were fighting each other on rainbow road, which appeared to be their modus of transport? That scene took forever and didn't seem to be relevant at all.

Re: Metroid Prime Engineer Calls Out Nintendo, Says Not Crediting OG Devs In Remaster Is "Petty And Ridiculous"

@Olmectron This entire reply you've written sort of looks like you justifying to yourself why what you've said was not a fallacy. To me it is, and that is where my position lies. However, if it's important to you that you did not write one, then I am glad you have found yourself innocent of said charge. On the note of the work, you have ignored the fact that the remaster is essentially just a port with some asset changes. The exact original work of many of the creators is still there. In the case of something like the original Metroid, yes those people did design the characters, but they did not work on this specific game in question. They did not work on the story, the models, the code, the sound, any of that stuff. With this remaster, a lot of what was directly created by the Metroid Prime team is literally in this remaster still. There's a lot they didn't change. If the game were a remake instead, most people myself included, would have not taken issue here. Now you can feel free to disagree with my taking issue, and I can feel free to express that I am not a fan of you or your sentiment. But misinterpreting what I have written to fit into your specific narrative is not civil, and I'm particularly uncertain why the debate between us had to happen in the first place, as I had never intended to argue in favor of my position, simply state how I feel about it.

Re: Metroid Prime Engineer Calls Out Nintendo, Says Not Crediting OG Devs In Remaster Is "Petty And Ridiculous"

@johnvboy And I respect your stance on respect, as odd as that sentence sounds. Usually, I am of the same mind. However, I have been involved in multiple artistic fields, and I personally hold that game creation as a medium is a form of art, as many such other forms of media are. This will help you understand why the issue is personal for me specifically. Nobody who put that much time into something, and works in a field where credits are important to stay competitive would want to be left out of the credits from a mere remaster. It's their work being used as the base as others have stated. If someone say, took a story that myself and multiple other writers of fiction collaborated on, then changed it and did not give credit, I would not be too happy. Yes, this situation is based on seperate circumstances where the workers were surely under contract, and surely Nintendo has the right to do it, or they would have done otherwise. But by all means, it is still a really mean spirited thing to do as far as I'm concerned.

To elaborate, what I am saying here is not an argument to say any one such person who believes differently is objectively wrong, it is simply an explanation as to why I don't believe anyone holding that stance would be a very nice person. Not to say every single person with that stance is a bad person explicity, but enough of them are in my view, that a generalized statement is enough to display my stance on the issue.

Re: Metroid Prime Engineer Calls Out Nintendo, Says Not Crediting OG Devs In Remaster Is "Petty And Ridiculous"

pennylessz

@johnvboy Oh no, you've got me all wrong. I'm not trying to get my point across, and I don't hold much respect for those who believe the original devs don't deserve credit for this work.

On the note of not suggesting anyone was neutral, you did say nobody here is suggesting the devs don't deserve credit here. To me, you are neutral if you feel they deserve credit but don't think it's a big deal, as you stated. However, with the amount of arguing you've done in favor of them not receiving credit, it has seemed to, me that your stance is not of a neutral stance as defined above.

As for the actual question about how much time you've spent on here, I was actually curious of it was a slow work week or something. That's why I specified it wasn't rhetorical, though you're free not to answer. We've both already set our stances on this issue, and I'm sure neither of us is of the opinion that we'll become friends anytime soon.

Re: Metroid Prime Engineer Calls Out Nintendo, Says Not Crediting OG Devs In Remaster Is "Petty And Ridiculous"

pennylessz

@johnvboy Have you read the messages from Browny in this thread? Literally said that these devs are expecting a participation trophy they didn't earn. That's not exactly a neutral stance. Also, it is now I genuinely feel, so it's not important whether or not it's more convincing

Also damn dude, for someone who doesn't feel the original devs don't deserve credit, you've been absolutely living in this comment section for an entire day. Slow work week? This is the internet, so I should probably specify, that's not rhetorical.

Re: Super Mario Movie Secures Most Successful Opening Weekend For Any Animated Film, Ever

pennylessz

@Kid_Sickarus Yes, most matters of disagreement on the internet tend to end in regret. An issue such as this is moreso debate practice than anything though. It matters little whether the Mario movie is good or not, as it has already achieved what it set out to do. Anyway, you seem more genuine than I gave you credit for, and I apologize on that matter. Many people could've bowed out in a rage of fury, but this seems to have ended civily.

Re: Super Mario Movie Secures Most Successful Opening Weekend For Any Animated Film, Ever

pennylessz

@Kid_Sickarus So in your life, every discussion you've had where opinion was involved had a precursor word specifying that such statement was an opinion? That's certainly not a guarantor in any social circles I've been in. Secondarily, an opinion on something that is subjective cannot be wrong, adding a maybe to a claim on those grounds does not change that. I can concede ground on the ambiguity of my intent with the first statement, on account of the fact that this is the internet, and intent in written word are best stated plainly. However, the second piece you typed seems more like an attempt at a gotcha, and I can't imagine it being looked at any other way by a third party observer. The insinuation that somebody you disagree with on a subject of grammar is not a native English speaker is also a tired insult, and whilst I appreciate your faux attempt to be polite to those of other nationalities, your particular intention itself also comes off as malicious in your statement.

Edit: Let me go deeper into this since you questioned my language skills. Read this learning sheet provided by a College.

Note that the word bad is a signal for an opinion.

Re: Every Dragon Quest Game Ranked

I hated VII on 3DS with a burning passion. I was able to stand II, but couldn't get past hour 40 in VII. It was so easy, it dragged so much, there were few characters to work with, and-worst of all-enemies were shoved into the tight corridors of the original maps, so avoiding fights was at times inconceivable.

Re: Nintendo Is Officially Skipping E3 2023

@Diowine Yeah, the lack of E3 has actually moved me towards PC gaming in the last couple years. It's honestly a refreshing environment. Still, E3 always let me know what's coming out, now I just comb through Steam. Not really exciting.

Re: Random: Pokémon Scarlet And Violet Players Are Seeing Disembodied Heads

pennylessz

@dreadkong My friend had a Golduck fall through the world and two people who were walking melted into each other. I myself saw a Venonat stuck inside a rock, and nearly got soft locked into place whilst walking, only to be saved by a random Pokémon forcing a fight on me, to get my character to move. Just because you haven't seen the glitches doesn't mean they aren't there.

Re: Soapbox: Pokémon Scarlet & Violet Is The Most Friction-Free Pokémon Yet

pennylessz

@Kiyata I am someone who is not a fan of recent Pokémon games, but has still played them all. I also enjoy Pokémon Emerald Rogue, which is a great hack for the sake of team building and difficulty. I can say, this game is very broken. I witnessed people melting into each other, and a Golduck falling through the world. It was hilarious frankly. The battles are also insanely slow. Some of the slowest I have ever seen, with not so great effects either.

On the other hand. This game has objective markers everywhere, you can just place down a flag and ram yourself over to the next objective. There are three tasks you must do in the game. If you want linearity, you should either set down flags to the three objectives closest to you at all times, to ensure levels scale naturally. Or you could just do the entirety of one task first, like the gyms, simply by setting the marker on each gym until they're all gone. (But it's better to do the ingredient line first.)
However, if you run through the game in the wrong order on purpose, like I did, then it's actually one of the more difficult Pokémon games. I was often fighting trainers that were ten levels above me. It was rather fun.

The game isn't worth the money, especially compared to some of the amazing rom hacks out there, but it's still not so bad for people who don't do well with open worlds. (Like me.) It helps that the open world is very small compared to others.
