Re: UFO 50 Gets A Surprise Shadow Drop On Switch Today

The Direct was full of nice little surprises (especially compared to last week's terrible Partner Direct), but this was the highlight for me. It's funny that it only got a few seconds at the tail end of the closing sizzle reel.

Re: Nintendo Switch 2 Welcome Tour Receives Its First Update (Version 1.0.1)

All the complaints for this are getting old. Nintendo engages in plenty of anti-consumer practices, but selling this thing was not one of them. I got more out of it than most legit 10 euros games I've bought.

Yes, it's a digital museum with minigames. I like the concept and enjoyed it a whole lot. If you think that 6-7 hours in a digital museum are boring, then save your 10 bucks for, I dunno, renting a 2-hour movie or something.

Re: Little Nightmares 3 And Little Nightmares Enhanced Edition Announced For Switch 2

@robotreptile Agreed, those loading times were absurd–especially b/c the platforming sessions are somewhat finicky. I remember a section where I died at the same jump again and again, and after each 5-second attempt I had to wait one minute for the game to load. It was one of the worst performance experience I had on the Switch.

I find the "technical limitations" thing insulting. We payed for a game that was borderline unplayable, and now they refuse to provide an upgrade that would fix it.

Re: Nintendo Of America President On Timing Of Switch 2's Release Date

@OldGamer999 I chalk it up to the Switch 2 being "just the new Switch", so it's probably less exciting than an actually new-new thing. I understand you being on the fence, especially if you already own a last-gen console. But really, I think that Nintendo did their homework with the launch lineup.

Yes, MKW is "just more Mario Kart", but so was MK:8, and it's still my go-to game when I have kids or grown-up friends over. After having a go at MKW during Nintendo's event, I can say it's an extremely polished game that feels the best the franchise has ever been. It's just so damn fun.

The new DK game is a shot in the dark, but "weird with a potential for failure" is exactly what I want from Nintendo. (And it felt great for the 15' I played, so I'm optimistic. I just hope they fix the framerate when you open the map.)

I know that Metroid is probably coming out after summer, but just waiting for it feels good. It was the closest to PC gaming I ever experienced on a console. The mouse aiming feels fantastic.

Oh, and we also get Drag&Drive this summer. I'm not into competitive multiplayer and this game has a weirdly inconvenient "dual mouse" setup, but it plays like nothing else I've ever played, so it's peak Nintendo in that respect.

I think it's a brilliant summer line-up frankly. I personally was hoping for a Switch that can run modern games plus a few shiny things from Nintendo, and I'm not disappointed in the slightest.

I understand that we're all used to clickbait, so now it feels wrong to put actual information in the title of an article–but you had almost exactly the same title less than 24 hours ago, about NES Tetris, and plenty of other nearly identical titles in the last few months. Look, can you please give us meaningful titles if we promise to click on them? Like, the actual name of the game?

Re: Review: Gunbrella - Witty, Winsome Action-Platforming With A Great Hook

nusco

Unfortunately, this studio has a bit of a spotty history with bugs. I even had bugs in the boss fight in the demo.

Aside from the bugs and from the bland dialogues, the demo had me smiling throughout. The controls feel sooo good. Your character is super snappy, and the gunbrella is easy to use / hard to master, the way I like it. Also, the graphics are very legible. I liked Gato Robot a lot, and this one seems at least as good.

Re: Review: Ganryu 2 - Hakuma Kojiro - Unworthy Of Its Shinobi-Inspired Ideas

nusco

This review openly implies that this game (and Sol Cresta) have performance problems because they're written in Unity. That is, frankly, BS. There are plenty of counterexamples of Switch games written in Unity that have no technical issues, including Death's Door, The Messenger, Hollow Knight and Cuphead. I don't expect game reviews to be 100% accurate from a technical standpoint, but what good is a professional review if it's as sloppy as a random Reddit post?

Re: Feature: No More Robots Boss On How Switch eShop Is Pushing Publishers To Game The System

nusco

@Lordplops Actually, the entire point of the article and the Twitter thread is: no, making a good is not the key thing. It's not even a very important thing. See the part where he talks about Metacritic score not being nearly as important as deep discounts, and all the references to crappy games navigating to the top of the charts.

The sad thing is, there are many ways that Nintendo could fix this problem. They choose not to.

Is there any way for you to configure your site's RSS feed so that it doesn't send out a new item when you update an article's title? I see that you have a habit of updating titles after publishing, and the result is that your feed is confusing. For example, there are three copies of this article in the feed.

Re: Super Rare Games Announces Seven New Physical Releases For Nintendo Switch

Everyone knows that SteamWorld Heist is still one of the best games on the Switch, but I would also recommend Mechstermination Force and AAC+ to anybody. They're two underrated gems, especially in co-op. I only have about 4-5 games that I keep playing with friends over and over even after completing them, and those two are our go-to co-ops.

Re: Indie Developer Shares "Bad News" About Publishing On Switch, After Pitching His Game To Nintendo

nusco

I suspect that this kind of rejections hase little or nothing to do with quality, and more to do with incidents such as https://www.nintendolife.com/news/2019/04/indie_game_removed_from_switch_eshop_after_dev_reveals_it_contains_a_hidden_code_editor

If quality were a concern, we wouldn't have huge amounts of shovelware on the eShop. But people sneaking backdoors on your Switch certainly is a concern.

Just to be clear: I know and respect the author of "A Dark Room", and I know for a fact that he had the best intentions. I'm just saying that this kind of incident doesn't go unnoticed to a controlling company such as Nintendo. They probably assume that if you have a publisher, then they have someone to hold accountable.
